Screen saver issues

Whenever i turn on my mac book pro the screen saver goes back to default, it never saves my desktop picture that i choose to have. How can i maintain the desktop picture without having to put it on every time i turn the power on my laptop?

That's a problem related to the Desktop settings file.
To fix it, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (in the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and copy:
~/Library/Preferences
Then, look for "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and move them to the desktop or remove them. Finally, set the wallpaper and the screensaver you want and restart.

  • ATV 2.4 update screen saver issue?

I've been with Apple TV since the first month it appeared on earth and have been very happy about it. Right now I own three of them. The feature I always use is to listen to the streaming music and watch all my photo floating on the screen. Since this recent 2.4 update, I think there's a bug involving this. If I turn on the ATV and use it right away, screen saver would turn my TV blank, not a slide show. Anyone got this issue? It's already on my two out of three ATV. And, without opening ATV and remove the HDD, is there any way to step beack to 2.31?
    Thanks
    WK

Like many others, I'm also having problems with the screen saver after the 2.4 update. Normally I use the "slideshow" screensaver option with music playing. Since the 2.4 update, this screensaver option works for maybe 2-3 minutes, then it begins cycling through pictures quickly and the ATV becomes completely unresponsive and requires reboot. Not good. The other screensaver option, the one with the cascading pictures, doesn't work well either (lots of blank screen with occasional bouts of pictures).
I have to say, I'm very disappointed with this update ... doesn't Apple test this stuff? It's a pretty basic function of the device, and I can't believe it's not well tested before the software is released.
If anyone figures out a workaround, other than turning off the screensaver, I'd love to hear it.

  • Resume from Screen Saver Issues

    Hey All,
Well...migrated from Leopard to Snow Leopard with minimal issues but
In Leopard, after waking from screen saver, a box would prompt for a password. I've gotten SL to do this, but there is no way to switch user.
I have multiple users and i'm unable to switch users from SL.
    Any ideas??

  • Retina MBP & 27" Thunder Bolt Screen Saver Issue

Screen Saver - When connected to the 27" & the MBP in clamshell mode I have the screen saver to come on within 5min of non-use.  When I come back to my desk and click the spacebar to enter my password the screen saver will freeze.  I'm able to move the mouse, but I don't get the prompt for the password and opening the screen on the MBP won't do anything. Just remains black.  This is happening at least once daily.  The only option is to hold the power button and hard shutdown and restart.

  • Safari-Netflix-and Screen Saver Issues

Finally Safari will allow me to watch Netflix, however, my screen saver is set to 5 minutes, and Safari does not know I am watching a movie. Oh yea you say, just change the screen saver, well, i get tired of that, and remember I have to set it back the next day or have my screen constantly burn in, and besides, Mozilla does NOT have this problem. If Safari programers are reading this, know, Safari has been lacking and behind advancements by about 3 years since its introduction, please spend the money and time and get it ahead of the ball, get it competitive. Make Skype numbers dial-able in Safari, Make a separate Refresh button so we can place it next to the navigation buttons where it belongs, Make my screensaver know that I am watching Netflix, all this is NOW available in Mozilla, and I am having to go back there, till Safari can grow up and compete.

    Hi ellaine,
Lets check your energy saver settings:
About Energy Saver sleep and idle modes in Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412
Regarding your second question, it may be that your display is set to sleep before the screen saver starts. That would cause the screen saver to never display.
    Thanks,

  • Will Apple ever fix the 12/31/200 date RSS Visualizer Screen Saver issue?

I had to reopen the discussion about the RSS Visualizer:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6474304
I realize Apple may think the rest of the world (ex. CNN, Digg, etc..) needs to change their RSS feeds, but why not fix the RSS screensaver so that it doesn't default to December 31, 2000 and show only 4 news stories for most feeds? Even most of Apples RSS feeds don't comply. And this is by design?

Better is to send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • ITunes Artwork Screen Saver Not Working. Empty black screen. Garbage collection, memory leak issue? ... malloc: auto malloc[]: attempted to remove unregistered weak referrer 0x ...

    Hey Smart Apples,
My iTunes Artwork screen saver is not working. After reboot, then selecting iTunes Artwork in System Preferences, just a black screen appears in the preview, as well as when pressing Test, and when allowing the screen saver to start on it's own. The error message in Console says...

The memory address location at the end of each line is different everytime I preview the screen saver.
    I've tried...
        deleting ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.* files
making sure each album has a cover in iTunes
running Get Album Artwork in iTunes
        recreating symbolic link ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music -> ~/Public/iTunes Music/
    ... but doesn't help.
All other screen savers work... my usual is Flurry, and it works too, but gives invalid framebuffer operation under Console.
    Nothing running/checked under Sharing.

    Does anyone have a solution?
Environment: Mac OS X (10.7.2), Macbook Pro (late 2008)

So it turned out that the cause of the problem wasn't as complicated as I thought...
I had a few songs that were not added to the iTunes library, instead referenced from other locations on my hard drive.
Specifically, if you bring up the Get Info window of a song, under Summary > Where, it may show a different path than your usual iTunes Media folder location, set under Preferences.
    E.g. Where: ~/Desktop/downloaded_song.mp3
I guess, this happens when you drag a song into your iTunes instead of adding it to the library, and apparently, causes problems with the Artwork Screen Saver.
    Solution:
    To correct it,
For those songs, go to File > Add to Library...
Then find and select the song file.
That's all I had to do to get the screen saver working... All your songs have to be added to your iTunes Library.
I think my brother was messing around with my playlist... I hope Apple nails a better way to lock-unlock/secure OS X soon (proximity sensor, biometric 3D face recognition, unique voice recognition, soul recognition, etc.).
That malloc error message still shows up; that must be an unrelated issue with the screen saver.
I hope this helps out all those suffering through the same issue with their iTunes Artwork Screen Saver.

  • Screen Saver System Preferences layout issue on Yosemite

    Hi,
After a clean install (first formatted and installed from a clean bootable USB-stick (so a really clean install)), the Screen Saver System Preferences shows a glitch after activating the Photos App (I think). I checked every step in the process and the glitch showed up after activating the Photos App.
When navigating to System Preferences and then to Desktop & Screen Saver, first it shows two columns of screen saver types (as it should be), but when the photos from the Photos App are loaded (in the background in the Desktop screen), the preview window with the selected screen saver stretches half a centimeter to the left, pushing one of the two columns away.
I have already tried reinstalling Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.3, deleting caches, removing screen saver config files (tip from Linc Davis), etc. The console does not show  useful information (for me).
In my case the issue shows up on my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) and MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014). Only on the MacBook the two columns merge to one. One the iMac I only see a small stretch, but it does not cause the two columns to merge.
Please reply if the same issue occurs and if there is a known solution.
    Regards.

Hi Cameron I'm not going to be much help because I too have exactly the same problem with my machine - I have tried re-installing Leopard and that makes not one scrap of difference - I have cleared out all the rubbish on the machine - no difference - sent umpteen "reports" to Apple expecting some sort of response - after all the OS is the best thing since sliced bread so they can't have many reports to deal with - perhaps its us causing the problem.
    Regards Bob

Screen saver won't start since Lion upgrade. Two different machines, same issue. Help

For anyone following this thread, I've found a solution to my problem. Turns out that a cute widget called FishTank appears to be the culprit. With it running in Dashboard (even when I don't see Dashboard) the Screensaver and Sleep functions don't work. I turned it off, not because I'm clever, just because I tired of it, and voilà, Screensaver and Sleep are now working. It can stay in my widgets list without any problem, it just can't be turned on. I'm going to delete it anyway, however.
Hope this points the way to solutions for some of the rest of you!
    Cheers!

  • 4.2.1 Does Not Fix" Crash-on-screen saver" bug or metadata issues

ATV2 crashes as soon as it goes to screen saver. 4.2.1 does not fix this. WTC?
You have to set screen saver to "Never" to prevent crashing.
    No one checks these things?

    Not seen the screensaver issue.
Personally I think this update was a patch to fix the DVI flickering issues that rendered the device unusable for many people - other annoyances can be fixed later but we better keep reminding them:

  • 10.4.6 Issues with screen saver security and Finder Inspector dialog

Now that I've updated my system to 10.4.6, I no longer have password protection on my screen saver. I also can no longer right-click, select Inspector, and lock multiple files at once.
I can open Inspector and lock multiple files using the key command with no problem. It's just when I try to right-click that doesn't work. Inspector comes up, but it's available only for the entire disk -- it does not show multiple files. And a lock box to check doesn't exist anywhere in the dialogue box. Note that this is only a problem with files on my slave partition. My master drive is OK.
    Anyone else have these issues?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sometimes if preference files are corrupt an update will simply reinforce their being corrupt. Try resetting them from the program that activates them. The password screen saver is in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Security mentioned in:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303548
As for the inspector, I don't know where that is controlled, but maybe someone else here will know.

I have a group of my images that rotate, and yes it happens oneach. I do believethat I have at one time had the images cover the entire screen, however I cannor remember how I made that happen, just like the desktop. I am sure it is old'ites setting in!

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

For a few users, since some point in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there has been an occasional problem when trying to wake from sleep if you have Bluetooth enabled for the keyboard, Magic Mouse, Trackpad, etc.
The solution for me that worked 100% of the time was: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
For me, the problem ran intermittently through 10.6.something, all of 10.7 and now, finally, seems to be resolved in 10.8.2.

Sorry for posting what might be a simple fix, as I thought it would be such, but apparently I just can't seem to figure this out. (as I trouble shoot for Pro Apps support requests every day at the office, but it's always the simplest items that seem to get us for some reason)
Just recently assisted installing Snow Leopard (Mac Box Set) on my sister's machine, clean install, and was in the process of updating her screen saver the way it was previously, Cycling through her Photos in iPhoto. When I first selected iPhoto within the screen saver system preference pane, it would give me a message saying that there were no photos selected/available. Yet, when I opened iPhoto '08, all her photos where all coming up as expected. No matter how many times I tried to select iPhoto in the screen saver pane, it wouldn't come up.
I figured I'd follow the request it was giving me, about using the icon at the bottom of the pane to manually add the "Pictures" folder where they all reside. Instead of just adding the "Pictures" folder to the side bar, it now shows ALL various sub-folders in the side bar list. (making the list about 100x longer than original)
I figured I'd try reversing what I did, selecting the various photo folders/sub-folders and use the to remove them from the list, but each of the various items listed all have the button disabled and cannot be removed. I then made several attempts to delete any/all preference files that were associated with *screensaver* in the various *.plst file namings. Though, no matter how many, or how many times I removed all the obvious screen saver *.plist files I could find, even after emptying the trash, and starting System Preferences once again, the HUGE list of photos were still showing up in the Screen Saver pane within System Preferences.
I appreciate any advice and/or guidance in how I might be able to remove the extra photo folders from the Screen Saver Sys Preferences side bar, and thank you very much in advance for taking the time thus far.
    Best Regards,
    -James-

  • Nokia 7230 -- Screen Saver Setup Issue

Hi there, I have just bought a Nokia 7230 on which I have activated the screen saver in the form of a digital clock. However, after some seconds of not using the phone, the screen becomes dark-grey but no screen saver appears (NB: the phone is not off!). The selected dead time until the screen saver should appear (3 minutes) does not appear to work either. Is it possible to get that screen saver on? Thanks for your support.
