Scroll Bar Safari Mavericks

Hi everybody!
I've upgraded my Macbook Pro early '11 to Mavericks yesterday and I think I've found a bit of a bug in Safari. When idling on a web page, I've noticed that the right scroll bar activates and deactivates intermittently, thus creating some kind of a flicker.
Does anybody have this problem? Do you think is a Safari bug or a Mavericks bug?
Thanks!

This happens in Mac AppStore too!

I have two displays and experienced a similar problem on one of them. I eventually reduced the offending display’s contrast and the Safari scrollbar normalized.

  • I can't disable the scroll bar in Mavericks

I can't disable the scroll bar in Mavericks. I go to System Preferences>General and I select the option "Automatically" or "When scrolling". I close de System Preferences and re-open and the option selected is "Always", ever. I don't want scroll bar in my page every time, but just when I need.

    Ok, try this:
    Go to Finder
    - in the top left to the right of the black apple, go to "GO"
    - then hold down the option key on your keyboard
    - and go to library which is between the home and computer
    - in there, go to a folder called "preferences"
    - in preferences, find com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    - take that file and put it on the desktop
    - after that, restart and try to disable the scroll feature again

  • Missing Scroll Bar with Maverick - when will it change?

What are the plans to fix this problem?  I am about ready to get rid of my Apple MacPro because I am not finding Apple to be a "consumer friendly" company any longer.  Whoever made this decision, made a VERY bad one.  I waste so much time trying to get the scroll bar because I there is no longer  way to keep it visible.  Terrible way to lose a customer...guess my thoughts of an IPhone or IPad just went down the tubes, too!  Ha..I am trying to "scroll down" to send this...that was 2 minutes ago!

 (Apple menu) > System Preferences > General.
The Discussion you referenced was for Safari's Preferences, not System Preferences, and the reply in that Discussion is correct.
guess my thoughts of an IPhone or IPad just went down the tubes, too!
Scroll bars are similar in both appearance and behavior in iOS.

  • MAVERICK OS  Safari locks up and no scroll bar

The Safari thing I can sort of get around by using Firefox but the scroll bar and screen navigation is painful. The scroll bar disapears and does not reapear when using the touch pad to move the cursor. This happens in all screens. the up down arrows work but you have to use touch pad to select where on screen you want to scroll. There has got to be a better way or some setting that I am missing because I cant imagine that apple would think this current process is better.

    Problem:
Mavericks 10.9 set the default to "Automatically based on mouse or trackpad"
    Solution:
    System Preferences, General
Next to "Show Scrol Bar", click "Always"

  • I have osx 10.6.8 and have lost the side scroll bars on Safari.  When I go into System Preferences there is NOT an "always" option for displaying Scroll Bar.  How do I get it them to display again?

When using Safari the scroll bars no longer appear on the right hand side.  When I go into System Preferences the option to Always have the scroll bars displayed is NOT there.  How/Where do I go to get these to show all the time?

It SHOULD be under the General tab in System Preferences:
(Note that this is a Mavericks screenshot, but it should be there in Snow Leopard, too, if indeed you're still running 10.6.8 as your profile says)

  • Missing scroll bars on a pop up window in safari

I'm not even sure if Im in the right section for this question but I kept getting and error message under the safari topic. I have been trying to have my fantasy football draft, but whenever I open the window to enter the live draft there are no scroll bars. I can only see half of the page and its frustrating because I cant really see what Im doing. My draft is held through yahoo sports, I thought it just might be a problem with yahoo, but any other web browser I used on a different computer works just fine. Im pretty computer illiterate also.

    HI,
I used on a different computer works just fine
That computer may be a different model and operating system?
Try this. From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Relaunch Safari. If the behavior persists, from the Safari Menu Bar (top of your screen) click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.
Click the Show Cookies button. Delete all cookies related to; fantasy football / Yahoo.
Now click the Autofill tab in the preferences window. Click the Edit button next to: Other forms. Remove all.
    Relaunch Safari.
If that didn't make a difference, click your Apple Menu (top left corner of your screen) then scroll down and click Software Updates. Make sure your system software is up to date.
Also, if you have any Safari third party add-ons that control scroll bars, that could be part of the problem.

  • Scroll Bar missing on Safari web pages and unfamiliar screen saver image

I recently upgraded my OS X from Panther to Tiger v. 10.4.11 and upgraded to Safari 3.1.2. Now the scroll bar down the right side is missing from the open web page in Safari. Where did it go and how do I get it back?
Also, unfamiliar images appear, something like a screen saver when I leave my computer for a
few minutes without putting it to sleep or shutting it down. It's a black/white/gray portrait of
a woman and as the picture moves around the screen, the image magnifies. I have no idea
where this image came from nor how to get rid of it. Any ideas?

Hi Busy1, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions after re-install, then reboot again.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

Check System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver>Screen saver Tab for that.

  • No vertical scroll bar using Safari or Firfox

I created my own website using Dreamweaver CS3 and it looks great using IE. I just viewed it in Safari and Firefox and noticed there is no vertical scroll bar on the right so people can not see the bottom half of my pages. I have researched this online and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas will help. My website is www.binglevet.com if that helps anyone view the source code. Thank you. Caroline

You are awesome! I actually did run that report and there was this message; however, I didn't realize it was the main cause for many to be unable to view my site when using Firefox or Safari. I deleted the line and it now scrolls in both browsers. Thank you for the help.

  • The horizontal scroll bar appears in the middle on Safari.

    Hello.
I have a problem of Ipad mini
A few user has the same prolem like me T.T when I checked other users is using Ipad mini or related Ipad series on web.
and I could not find solution for it,
The probelm is : the horizontal scroll bar position is changed as below image, the scroll bar appears in the middle on web page of Safari
after zoom the page out and moving.
How to fix this problem ?
I already did it with a few way to fix and it never fix in my side.
    - Resotre factory mode : still happened.
    - Turn off and on Ipad mini : still happened.
    - Clear Cooke and data in safari setup.
If Clear cooke and data, it just disappeared on web surfing but this is only temporary way, I could meet the problem soon on web surfing.
Please help me to fix and share some information for it.
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue. Went to the Apple Store in Boston and the Genius Bar escalated the problem to the Engineers and they could not even solve it. They needed me to send them an image of the issue. I went to another Apple store and the Genius there had much better problem solving skills. He used his own critical thinking and discovered that the horizontal scroll bar sits at the same height. The height is exactly where the split keyboard ends. If you take screen shots and compare...you will find they are all at the same height. He thinks since the keyboard is a new feature they havent worked out the problems yet...and we will have to wait for the update.
Ever since Steve Jobs has been gone the call to response for issues is getting increasing slower and slower. New products continue to roll out but they all have problems and bugs. Take Maps for instance...they still have not fixed all the issues (even with this 6.0.1 update). The Ipad mini I spend 700$ for and it is such a faulty product. For what I spent I would have thought I would have gotten a great product. I have all Apple products...phone, desktop, laptop, Ipad original, and Mini...but they have done me wrong over and over. It may take months for them to roll out the fix the way the compnay has been operating under Cook.
When will the fix come....I do not know... best of luck!

  • Unwanted/unneeded scroll bars in Safari 4

I have a blog (www.RabbiBen.org) that suddenly began to show scroll bars next to each entry, in addition to the usual bars at the right side of a window. These bars only appear in Safari, not in any other browser I have tried. Is there a way to get rid of them in Safari?
My guess is no, given the number of posts regarding problems with Safari 4. Maybe Apple rushed this release too much.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Ben Sendrow

Just looked at you page. Imeditly I knew what the problem was...
Here's the text box div tag, div class="sfblogentry"...
*The css for the above div should be set to none for scroll bars or not set at all in the css.* The scroll bar is set to auto. When set to auto some browsers will show a scroll bar even is one is not needed. Or, when set to auto the text inside the div is so close to the inner walls of the text box. The browser will trigger for a scroll bar even if a scroll bar is not needed.
Here's a link to what your page should look like in Safari.
Click to view your fixed sample web page.
Was an easy fix took less than a minute to fix. There may be some elements missing and I didn't want to short through all the css pages to re-link them. There is six some odd css pages. Way to many css pages for a simple page like your.
To be honest with you, the html and css coding is a mess. If someone else was to take over the coding for your web page. It would be faster to rebuild the site than to work with what you have been provided.
