Scrolling two extra clicks down in Firefox?

I have the strangest thing: on my old Powerbook G4 (1Ghz 1Gb RAM) when I start up Firefox (3.0.1) or open a new tab in the program and I click with my trackpad button on the sidebar a first time, it doesn't move the page down once, but two extra times. After that , I'm fine and sometimes it doesn't show that behaviour.
Anyone have the same experience? And what to do about this?

Check the FireFox preferences. I recall there being a setting for smooth scrolling that is off by default.

• Two finger scrolling does not work ONLY on Firefox

This just started today, suddenly my two finger scrolling doesn't work but only when I'm in Firefox, offline and on Safari and Chrome it's fine. Restarting Firefox only fixes it for a few minutes, then it stops working again. All of the suggestions I've found that I've tried haven't worked, please if anyone could help and also break it down fairly easily, I'd really appreciate it.

Does this happen in Safe Mode?
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on ''Help'' (or click on ''Help'' in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode''
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

The same issue happens on Firefox 35.0 running in safe mode, Mavericks 10.9.5, both with Magic Mouse and normal standard mouse...
It's unbeliaveble this issue is going on since more than one year ago, I can find people complaining about it since December 2013!
Oh, one more thing: I don't have a two finger swipe configuration, I have single finger swipe, so the actual problem is about scrolling the page in itself (considering I've tested it with a normal standard mouse as well....).

• Firefox frequently loses almost all navigation (scroll wheel, page up/down) - must exit/restart to clear problem

This problem began sometime when I was using FF 3.6.x. I have since upgraded to 8.0.1, and the problem occurred more frequently than with 3.6.x. I finally decided to create a new profile, and I did not copy any files from the default profile. The problem persists. The problem has occurred regardless of whether I have one tab open or multiple tabs open. It occurs at seemingly random times.
Here's what happens: I will be merrily working along, and suddenly I will notice that my scroll wheel will no longer navigate the page I am on. Neither the page up/down keys work, and the up/down arrows no longer work either. However, I can still navigate by sliding the scroll bar up and down, and the Home and End keys work normally.
Additionally, I can not click on a tab to open it, but I can use CTRL-Tab to navigate from tab to tab.
A new artifact appeared after I upgraded to 8.0.1. Now, when I close a tab while this condition is in place, the tab actually closes and the appropriate page (next to the closed tab) will render, but the tab itself does not disappear from the tab bar. It's in effect a zombie tab.
Sometimes in this state I can click on links and the linked page will appear, and sometimes I get nothing. As a matter of fact, just after I loaded this very support page, the condition occurred. (Which is why I'll be copying this statement in case the Post Question link doesn't work :( )
I want to emphasize that I'm working with a completely new profile, so it's apparently not places.sqlite or any other file that's causing the problem. Please help if you can - I'm considering moving to Chrome if I can't figure this out. In recent days this problem has been occurring dozens of times a day.
TIA.

Well, I was really excited there for a while. Last night I set up FF with the new profile, in safe mode, and then disabled all the plugins. (BTW, I was surprised to learn that safe mode didn't disable the plugins.) Exit/restart, visited some sites, no problems. Then I spent the rest of the night watching hockey (I have my priorities). I left FF up all night, and this morning it was not "locked up", which gave me a huge amount of hope - normally if I've left FF running overnight there's a near zero chance that it will respond. However, I went to Google News, and after I had opened about 7-8 tabs - no joy. Same symptoms. I guess I'll have to check out Chrome or Opera, because I tried using IE8 for a few hours yesterday and it was not a fun experience.
Thanks anyway, cor-el.

My arrow scroll mechanism is no longer there (Firefox 3.6 in Mac) ... I can only move an 'invisible' arrow up and down to the right ...
I had first installed F 4.00 beta, but got rid of that one fast ... it couldn't deal with any add-ons, and it was even loading films in YouTube!
I thus installed F 3.6, and have no scroll arrows to the right, but I can move my cursor north or south on the right-hand side, which moves the page.

Wow, lightning fast and absolutely right!
Thank you so much!

Close out of the message app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
Then do a reset, no data loss. Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for your phone to boot back up.
Then check and see if you can save the pic.

• When i click on mozilla firefox i get a pop up that says proxy sever refusing to connect and i have been usinf mozilla firefox for the past two years

proxy sever will not connect

Is a proxy server required to access the internet at your location? Many businesses require the use of a proxy server but if your at home you shouldn't need a proxy.
To disable the use of a proxy sever click on the Firefox Button (or tools menu) then click options. Click on the advanced tab --> Click on the Network tab --> Under Connection click Settings --> Then click on circular button next to use System Proxy Settings. Hit OK then OK again to exit the options dialog.

• Inconsistant trackpad recognition of two finger click? ..

in safari every so often after using a two finger click to open a link in another tab
my trackpad seems to go wonky and refuses to recognize a two finger click, even though
the two finger scrolling works just fine. At first I thought it was only a safari issue
but once in that state the two finger click isn't recognized in firefox either.
Sometimes I can get it back by restarting Safari, other times I have to reboot my machine.
I've tried different patterns (thumb and little finger) with different spacing and angles (wide side to side, and diagonals etc) with no luck .. although I did notice that when in this state a triple finger
click (from one hand) then acts like a two finger click. I also tried washing my hands and wiping down the trackpad (eyeglass cloth) but nothing seems to work other than the safari/machine restart.
Because it first happened with my gmail I thought maybe it was a webapp thing but I also tried
all of the gmail cleanup suggestions (remove all google cookies, clear cache etc) but then I even noticed it after searching/clicking on the apple support forum links.
Unfortunately I can't quite figure out what starts the problem sometimes its fine for days and then other times it happens early after boot/safari start. I do keep my machine as current as software update allows.

forgot to mention .. when in this state it treats the two-finger click just like a single finger click.

• Computer crashes and has to be shut down whenever Firefox is opened.

The problem started when I tried to open specific websites and then it worsened so that whenever I attempt to go to a page other than the Firefox home page, my computer has to be shut down. I can open Firefox but I can't do anything else; it even bombs my computer when I try to do troubleshooting. The problem doesn't occur when I use either Safari or Chrome.
Have tried the following:
1. Resetting preferences.
2. Doing a clean reinstall.
3. Opening Firefox in safe mode.
4. Updating active plug-ins.
I can't send any crash reports because there are none listed. I think it's because the computer bombs and is unable to record any info. I've tried to attach the troubleshooter.xpi file below, but it never loads. Don't know if it's because I'm working in Safari.

Please note that I can't update my computer's OS X because it's too old for the latest versions.
Please help me fix this problem. Firefox has been my favorite browser for years and I'd hate to have to use something else after all this time. Thank you.

Ok, sorry to hear that the crashes are not recording. I did notice that there was an issue with the graphics card. There are two things we can try:
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
Or try this:
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

• Are You A Victim Of The Extra Click?!!

... I'm onto my second player now, after the first one was returned because it couldn't rapid scroll down. After the new one arriving (from play.com, old one from comet.co.uk), I used it for a couple of days, perfect. Now this is where the trouble starts. The player was resting on the desk, and I had to press back (bottom left button)...so it was at a weird angle (compared to actually using it in your hands) when I clicked it. As soon as I clicked, something felt wrong. I picked it up and used it in the normal way, and the back button seemed to have developed an extra clicking sound. The other buttons have a sharp?and crisp?click, whereas the back button has a little click sound?before the sharp one. I can still hear it when I apply enough pressure so it doesn't make the sharp one. The other buttons don't suffer from this. It doesn't actually effect the player?other than making the little click. I am conscience of it when using it and would love to know if anyone has experienced anything similar!Message Edited by ChabbyAlonso on 02-9-200707:35 AM

Oh god!!! I have the exact same problem with my zen vision:m, I thought 4 a second I was the only one getting it!!!!Well mine is actually on the play button, and it has gotten worse with time, I bought mine like beginin of june, and I started loving this player at first, I never got an iPod but I do know all the pros of this unit compared to the crappy iPod video, I even got 7 of my friends to convince their parents to bought them one and now we all have creative zen visions, but mine has just being letting me down in this past months, first it was with the headphones, like 2 months after I got my product the left headphone just stopped working, I had to move the cable around and play with it until it sounds so I eventually had to buy some new ones, I went 4 another brand this time, no more crappy headphones, and whats weird is that I'm EXTREMLY SUPER SUPER careful with my mp3, and headphones too, I never got them wet, or throw them all twisted on a bag or something, I always properly stored them, but they DIED!Then it was that "extra clicking" sound in the play button, I first thought it was like some weird sudden thing, but sound is so bad now I had to buy a wired remote control for the creative cause I'm affraid one of these days play button is just going to stop working too. Now the latest problem I've had is that the player's headphone plug is all freaky working, I plug a pair of earphones, and if I move just a bit the player it kinda freezes music, but if I touch earphone connection to the player music continues, so I changed the earphones cause I thought it might be the earphones, but it happens all the time, no matter what I'm plugin the player to, I tried restarting in case it was software, but no, its a weird hardware malfunction that affects the player while playing music, and now the bottom part for putting the dockind connection thing (which I hate BTW, I cant go out without that thing always around, at least iPod wins with that) and the docking port has to be in a certain way or it just wont work... And now my warranty is off, and I dont know where to send it to get fixed cause I bought it from Amazon.com, what can I do??

• When i click on the Firefox icon, a message about Torbutton appears. Wen i close the messag, i get a proxy error note.

I recently downloaded the latest version (15.0.1) of Firefox for my Mac. When i click on the Firefox icon, i get a display "Important Torbutton Information". It states "Torbutton is now always enabled. Click on the Torbutton for more information". I click on OK. I then get a display that states "THE PROXY SERVER IS REFUSING CONNECTIONS". I believe that i have two problems. 1. How do i fix the Proxy Server.

• I keep running the firefox update but the next time I click on my firefox icon it opens an older version and asks me to update. What is going on?

I downloaded and ran the update to Firefox. It said it was successful and then the welcome page etc. came up. However, after I had closed down and started up again the "old" version came up when I clicked on the Firefox icon with the usual comment that I have an old version and should update. I have tried this three times with the same result. I have a Compaq Presario 2200 laptop.
What am I doing wrong?

If you use the www.google.com/firefox site as home page that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page then you can ignore the message about not using the latest Firefox version on that page.
Google no longer seems to maintain that page.
The text about not running the latest Firefox version is in the code of the www.google.com/firefox site that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page and it looks that Google no longer maintains that page.
Current Firefox 4+ versions no longer use that Google website as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page.
Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you that you use an older Firefox version and suggests to update.
You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle).
• I downloaded Firefox 4; it's in the dock, but when I click on the Firefox symbol, it says I should download Firefox 4; how come?

I don't know how to give any more details than I have. Although there is an icon labeled Firefox 4.0.1 dmg in the dock (It is a square kind of thing that looks like a piece of paper with the upper right corner turned down with a smaller square inside it), it just seems to sit there. When I click on the Firefox symbol (also in the dock), it opens, but with the suggestion that I download Firefox 4. But I already did that. I don't understand what is going on.

For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4.0, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 .
• Two finger click and control click no longer works in Finder

Starting today, I can't do a two finger click or a control click to bring up the contextual menu on a file or folder. Two finger click works everywhere else on my Macbook, the desktop, browsers, Office apps, everywhere except Finder. I'm running OSX 10.6.8. I saw a post on another forum that someone else has the same issue with the same OS and also started happening today, but no answers so far. I have rebooted my machine and no change.

Trash the plist file again but this time.....
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer and empty the trash when you reach the desktop.
