SD-L622A CD/DVD drive does not read some CD's - Satellite L300-144

Drive TOSHIBA SD-L622A.
The drive does not see boot CD with Windows XP Service Pack 3, some of boot CDs with diagnostic utilities (IMHO 2CD format).
Also these CD does not seen by drive even under Windows XP, Vista.
To My wife has bought Toshiba L300, but another modification. There there is drive Matsu****a (Panasonic).
Problems with the same disks has not arisen.
PS Sorry for a terrible English. My native language is Russian :)

In the first topic I wrote
..+The drive does not see boot CD with Windows XP Service Pack 3+..
I have taken other disk from my friend - the situation has not changed.
Installation Windows XP SP3 has a success only after copying the distribution kit on removable HDD and manual install Windows from command prompt
But I think its abnormal.
I think, the theme can be closed because this question should be addressed to Toshiba's fimware developers
+If you cannot use “some CDs with diagnostic utilities” maybe are the problem those CDs. For me it is not so dramatic issue. if you can use all “commercial” medias everything must be OK.+
May be.....but I have bought two notebooks Toshiba in a day for Me & My wife.
On my wives notebook all the above-stated disks playing normally, but it has another drive by Panasonic (Matsu****a)

  • DVD drive does not recognize some media on Satellite A30-514

I own a Satellite A30-514 laptop with Microsoft xp OS. Just lately, some DVD's (not games) will not play from the drive. some do some don't. It is not a region problem - they are all region 2. Windows does not read the disc when it is inserted and does not register a disc in the drive when I show 'my computer'. CD's all play normally. Could this be a driver (internal) issue or is my DVD CD combo just too old now?
    Thanks Marie.

    Hi
To give you some precise answer it will be interesting to know which DVDs are not readable. Meaning of word 'some media' is to general and not helpful to understand the problem.
Satellite A30 is pretty old notebook model and it is possible that ODD functionality is not good anymore. You can try to clean the lens.

  • DVD drive does not read SOME discs

    Hello there,
My DVD drive had been working fine for the last 2 years, but now it sometimes simply won't read some film DVDs. The problem is not related to the DVD area thing. What happens is that I put the disc in the drive, it spends a long time spinning the disc around, and then nothing happens: explorer just shows as if there was no disc in the drive.
My laptop is a HP Compaq 6715s. My system is Windows XP SP3. My drive lists as a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L. (For some reason, although I only have one physical drive, another device is listed in the Device Manager just underneath the GSA-T20L: a TSHAJWP XAZ0TU7SPEF SCSI CdRom. But I believe this is a virtual drive created by Deamon emulator?).
All hints and help would be greatly appreciated!
    Best,
    Pedro

Also, I forgot to say that I have tested the films that don't work in my machine elsewhere, so I am certain the problem is not in the discs themselves.

  • Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

I have canon dvd handycam, and mini dvd works on it. One month back i recorded movie and pictures on mini dvd using handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 dvd drive, it worked very fine.
Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
    Any suggestions?
    Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable

It will likely require replacement of the drive. There is more than one laser in there: one for each function. One can go bad without the other going bad.

Above is the part number for the DVD burner drive. I could not find one on eBay.  Here is one online:

Replacement is easy. Remove a single screw on the bottom and slide the old drive out and replace with the new drive.

  • CD/DVD drive does not read all DVD formats and regions

    Hi
My Teac-dw-224e-a does not read all DVDs formats and regions.
It does read CDs but no DVDs at all.
Not DVD-R and not even regular DVDs. I have checked the region of the DVD.
I have reinstalled the driver and also tried with different software.
    What can I do?
    Please help!

    Hi
It is possible that your DVD drive has wrong region settings.
In this case it is not able to watch all possible DVD movies from different regions.
Of course you can change the settings 4 times. But after this changing the settings are fixed and its not possible to change it anymore.

  • DVD drive does not read media

Hi. This is regarding my Satellite L750 laptop (1 year old), for the past two days the DVD drive refuses to read any media - CDs/DVDs. I've done extensive and exhaustive searches to find a solution to this problem but to no avail. One of the most common problems I have come across is a software conflict with iTunes (installed on my machine) and a solution which states deleting "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters" from the registry. I have tried this out but have not been succcessful in solving the problem. Also, the drive is listed in the Device Manager.
Just for the record, I have not updated/added/deleted any CD recording software or any other software. I have not even updated iTunes for the past two months.
    I'm using Win 7 64-bit OEM.
Can someone shed some light on this issue? Will appreciate.

You may want to try this Microsoft Fix-It.
What can I do if my CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly?
You could also try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.
If that doesn't work, you could try a recovery. Recovering your laptop to its original, out-of-the-box state is a great way to eliminate software as a possible cause of the problem. Note that doing a system recovery will return the laptop to its default conditions, completely wiping your data. Information on how to perform a system recovery can be found in your user's guide. On most models you can hold '0' (zero) with the computer turned off. Then press the power button while continuing to hold '0' until the recovery utlity starts.

  • Equium A60 - DVD drive does not read data discs

    Hello
I am having a problem with my DVD drive on my Toshiba Equium A60 laptop. The DVD drive (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K13A ) will play shop bought films etc without a problem. it will also read a blank DVD when you put it in the drive but once information/Data is on the disc it wont detect the disc.
I am not really that good with computer so any help would be most grateful. The computer used to play everything it just stopped doing it a few months back.
    Many thanks Phil

    The issue is clear.
Fact is that not all CDs and DVDs are supported and compatible. There could be always an issue with a reading or writing
The same happened to me too I had to test different CDs and DVDs from different manufacturers and finally some medias worked
In your user manual you should find a list of medias which were tested and should run properly check it!

  • Equium P200 - DVD drive does not read all discs

My DVD Drive has just started reading some discs and not others, also some of the discs are not read all the time, you can put a disc in click on the dvd drive and it'll open the drive and say insert a disk, device manager says device working properly and driver upto date.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

Yes, terentino is right. Would be helpful if you could tell us which discs exactly work and which not. Maybe that would give the answer.
Did you installed more than one burning application? Sometimes several installed burning applications could interfere with the other one since every application installs some kind of libraries with their own burning/driver engine to control the functions of your drive.

My dvd mat****a drive UJ841S will read /write everything ok.
BUT it does not recognize Movies from Blockbuster. I cannot play a movie.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
Seems this certain kind of DVD is not fully compatible with this CD/DVD drive
Sorry but such issues are not uncommon you will always meet some disks which are not fully compatible and that the drives laser lens cannot handle such disk
But just one question; are these movies created for the European region?
I mean there are different DVD regions
As far as I know the movies for European needs region 2
The United States need region 1 settings and South & Middle America need region 4
So if you would like to watch DVD designed for USA then you will have to change the region settings to 1.
But note; you can change the region settings only 4 times then this settings would be locked and it would be not possible to change it again

  • CD/DVD-drive does not read/write properly

I can not write any dvds or cds because every time a message pops up with an error.
I tried different burning programs with different cd manufacturers and it still does not seem to be a problem on other computers having the same program and using same cds or dvds.
Another thing is that it can not read dvds all the time; same dvd can work once but not again and whenever i try to open a normal cd-r it says blank disc even when they work perfectly on other computers?
    can anyone plz help

hey ..ok im on a toshiba laptop SA50-543 usind windows XP home edition..the dvd/cd thing is built in and is a DVD rewritabl CD rewritable multiple recorder.
as for the programs i used for burning..i tried nero, sonic record now and the one im on now is roxio easy media creator
as for the error msg it says:
there was a problem writing to the disc.you can try again by clicking the retry button.you will need another blank disc ready.
    further info:
    Recording error
Recording errors can occur when a disc contains dirt, fingerprints, or scratches.
If you are getting recording errors:
    Try using a new disc.
Try using a different manufacturer??s disc.
Ensure the disc is clean before recording:
Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution.
Wipe the disc from the center to the edge.
    Dry the disc completely.
tried doing all of that and still not recording..and anyway if it was aproblem with the cds why would they work fine on other laptops?
i dont know which other info you need so let me know if theres anything else
Oh yeah, theres an advanced explanation for the recording error but its all in numbers do you need to know that?
    thx
