SDM vs JSPM

Dear experts,
I am about to do a major business package upgrade this weekend on our ms clustered java portal (NW 701). Last couple of times i applied business packages i used SDM, but now i talked to a SAP guy and he told me to use JSPM instead, but couldnt give me a reason to why its better.
Last upgrade i did i applied Portal SP6 with JSPM, but business packages with SDM. Is that somehow wrong? Only thing i can think of is that JSPM has a more "intelligent" interface which is a bit more fail proof than SDM. This is only a thought tho.
Another question - on my MS cluster, the SAP guy told me JSPM is controlling the cluster during the business package upgrade so that I dont have to close cluster ressources while doing the upgrade, like I used to. I Used to shut down the cluster so it couldnt switch over during upgrade, but if JSPM can control that it seems fine.
So - whats the big plus using JSPM instead of SDM for business packages?
Is JSPM able to control ms cluster while patching?

Thank you for your reply. I have heard the opposite, that JSPM is securing consistency but SDM doesnt. Not saying thet the source i have it from was right, I am still tad confused what to use. Maybe it would be wise to specialize in 1 application ex JSPM and deploy everything with the same tool, if JSPM manages cluster and consistency. I would love to be able to do a poll, to see how many % uses SDM and how many uses JSPM
If anyone has something to add please do so!

We set up NetWeaver2004s MSCS configration(having two nodes,
first node has CI locally,and second has DI locally.
Generally CI has some special tools such as System Land Directory,SDM
JSPM,configtool and Visual Administrator...
In the case that CI is unavailable, How can we use these tools on Dialog
instance after CI crush without CI restore??
So far Ive found the installation note for Visual Administrator in another node.
But i coundnt find the installation guide for SDM,JSPM,configtool and Visual Administrator.
Any information would be help.

your proposing
SDM:You can start sdm also if the j2ee server not is coming up... startserver.bat.
JSPM:You can use SDM instead JSPM.
ConfigTool:Only the database must be available. No J2EE server must running.
Basically your answers are assumed that primery server is available in OS level
with CI crash or something.
I would like to know solution against crtical situation like in the case of Hardware crush,example OS login is unavailable
SDM,JSPM,configtool is installed in CI(primery server) only, so we'd like to use
these tools in seconderly node.
If you know SAP's standard solution about how to mange sepecific tools
of CI for MSCS against CI failer, I would like to know it.

Unable to upgrade java components through JSPM tool for ECC 6.0 system

Hello All,
We are upgrading JAVA components to SP-STACK 12 for our system GD0(ECC
6.0 TWS ),and we were struck in the middle(only few components have been deployed and for others it is throwing error).
The error it throws from /SDM/program/log/ is
"Cannot login to the SAP J2EE Engine using user and password as providedin the Filesystem Secure Store. Enter valid login information in the
Filesystem Secure Store using the SAP J2EE Engine Config Tool. For more
information, see SAP note 701654."
And for this I followed note#701654 and updated the password of admin in Filesystem Secure Store and restarted the J2ee server ,even after doing
all this steps also still we are facing the same problem.
Currently when I try to login into J2ee engine through URL
:(<host>:<port>) it displays "Application you have requested is stoped",and when I check throw jcmon all three were under running
status(dispatcher,server0,sdm)
Kindly advise me on this..as I am struck in halfway..

I tried again by changing the password through configtool "secure store" and then I restarted j2ee_engine also .Even though i am getting the same error while applying through SDM tool & JSPM tool also.
This is error log it shows in SDM tool screen at the time of deployment.

JSPM startup fails with IBM JDK 1.4.2 SR13

Hi experts,
I´m upgrading my Portal to EHP1 SP06. After the upgrade I checked SDM and JSPM, SDM is working fine but the JSPM don´t start any more.
I just getting the information after starting the script 'go' under AIX:
'Waiting for SDTServer to connect ...'
Nothing happened after 10min...
Just want to let you that this issue is caused by a buggy version of the AIX JDK.
There is a new sapnote 1422869 for this issue, please have a look.
Solution
Use the actual recommended "IBM JDK 1.4.2 SR13 FP4 ifix" or SR13 without any FP.
The problem was introduced with SR13 FP2 and is in FP3 and FP4 too.
Install the recommended "IBM JDK 1.4.2 SR13 FP4 ifix" to solve the problem (see SAP note 1008311 or 1024539). As a workaround you can use the remote GUI from another system using a not affected JDK.
I installed IBM JDK 1.4.2 SR13 without any FP and the JSPM is working again

While installing solution manager 4 (SLES x86_64) I also run into the problem "ibjvm.so preloadLibrary: /opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142/jre/bin/j9vm/libj9vm22.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" during the phase "Create Java users"
I've taken your advice (Chris B) and the installation carries on with out a problem. (and the java instance has started)
When I stop and start sap, I then cannot get the Java instance to start again!
The error in the "std_bootstrap.out" has the message; "libjvm.so preloadLibrary: /opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142/jre/libj9vm22.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libjvm.so failed to load: j9vm22"
I have set all the environmental variables including the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and JAVA_HOME
I was wondering if you had the same problem, else if anyone else could please please help.

I have checked all the services in NWA, they are all running fine but one of the service is not available com.sap.security.login-modules and also in the log file it is saying that nested exeception.
I am Basis consultant i couldnt able to get what is nested exception.
How to undeploy the packages?
In CE there is no SDM is there any alternative tool to undeploy and deploy the Packages like SDM other JSPM.
Please guide on this.

Hi,
You can undeploy using the IDE itself.
1. Go to Deploy perspective (Window>open perpective>other-->Deploy)
2. There u can select Deploy view or undeploy view.

I am deploying on SRM server with WAS 7.0 so I guess that is not the reason. If you can notice in the error it is trying to find some container which it is not able to find. Do you have any hint what this container is??
Also i would like to know what is the content of the SRMMDM20SP02_2_BP_SRM_MDM.sca. Does it gives us a UI like the Configuration UI?? If so can u please send me the link via which i can access it coz i didn't find any such link in the documents.

In 7.1 you will not get sdm and JSPM doesn't give you option to undeploy.
So ,you need to user NWDS or NWDI.
Pls check this link http://help.sap.com/search/highlightContent.jsp which describes how to do it from NWDS.
If you have NWDI installed you can use that also.
Check on help.sap.com for more information

How to uninstall package(s) on NetWeaver AS Java ?

today I faced the following big challenge - I had to remove a few packages from NetWeaver AS Java 7.3 EHP 1.
On 7.0, this can easily be done with both JSPM and SDM, but those tools are dismissed since 7.1...
For installing those packages, we used SUM, but SUM is unable to undeploy them.
I found an article, that it is possible to undeploy packages with the telnet undeploy command, though this didn't

I would need to remove all the DCs and enter the undeploy command for all those packages at the bottom left ? wec~esrv~mc~complaintsandreturns~dpu, wec~comm~mc~customerinteraction~dpu, ... etc. ?
That is so much harder than before with SDM and JSPM !! So, better if I compose .xml files...

SystemInformation doesn't display the current SP level after upgrading NW07

I have updated a fresh installation of Nw2004s SR1 with Support pack SP07 to SP12. While upgrading I followed the guide SAP NetWeaver 2004s Support Package Stack Guide SPS12
I used JSPM to apply all the support packages and it was successfully done.
Then to upgrade the kernel, I did the following steps
1.     I extracted the   SAPEXE_102-20000972.SAR ,SAPEXEDB_102-20000974.SAR , IGSEXE_8-10003070.SAR to a temp directory .
2.     Then shut down the j2ee server (all instances and all services) completely
3.     Then kept a backup of DIR_CT_RUN.
4.     Copy the newly extracted components at temp directory to DIR_CT_RUN
5.     Restarted all services and j2ee engine. It started the server successfully
The upgrade is visible in SDM and JSPM, but
When I used to see the System Information(http://host:port/sap/monitoring/SystemInfo), it is still showing me the old SP details. That is
sap.com/SAP-JEECOR 7.00 SP7
sap.com/SAP-JEE 7.00 SP7
So was the version of all components are the showing the old version
While trying to open Visual Admin, I am getting the following warning message
Warning: J2EE Engine Kernel Version is older than the version of Visual Administrator
J2EE Engine Kernel Version:SP7
Visual Administrator Version:SP12
Can any body tell me why this is happening and how to fix this issue?

Hi Juan,
The upgrade versions are correctly shown in SDM and JSPM. That is in SDM it shows the version as SP12.

SeeBurger BIC mapping designer

I have generated two files mappings_sys.sca and mappings_sys.sda using seeburger BICMD version 1.8
In earlier versions the file generated was mappings_user.sda.
So i have doubt that the two files generated in new version are deployable or i have to do something more to get the exact deployable files.

MII Migration tool for server installed in Linux

I am planning to migrate few files from xMII 11.5 to 12.0. I searched in market place to download the migration tool(service.sap.com -> SAP Support Portal -> Downloads -> SAP Installations & Upgrades -> Search for Installations and Upgrades.
Entered XMII MIGRATION TOOL in the search field) which can be used from my windows laptop. But, its not available.
I also searched for the components which can be deployed in Netweaver to obtain the migration tool(service.sap.com -> SAP Support Portal -> Downloads ->Entry by application group->Support Packages and Patches...SAP xApps...SAP XMII...SAP XMII...SAP XMII 12.0...XMII MIGRATION TOOL 1.0). But, these components are only available for Windows server.
Let me know whether this is because of authorizations/permissions of my id. Is there a place where I can download either the migration tool or the components for linux?

The Migration Tool is a windows only application - so are the files from your 11.5 system for that matter
You'll need to download the tool, run either the SDM or JSPM tool of NetWeaver to extract the zip file from inside the SCA file. This zip file can then be extracted onto your laptop where the java app can run to take the desired 11.5 source files and migrate them into your 12.0 server via http.

Could not find portal application SAPJ2EE::library:bi~mmr~db

Hi,
I am trying to connect to BW system using BI_XMLA Connector using System com.sap.portal.systems.BIUDI.
And created a portal Application which is given in the document (How To Use the BI Java SDK in a Portal iView)
tried to access the BW system created through this code.
I deployed the par file into portal and when i run it i got the following error:
"Could not find portal application SAPJ2EE::library:bimmrdb"
SAPJ2EE::library:bimmrdb is in the portalapp.xml file in the application.
This was the following code in the xml file

No the problem is still there.
We had BI Java and EP* application running OK up to SP13. After I applied SP14 I had the error.
Continued to SP15. Problem still there.
Then I rolled back the whole bloody J2ee instance to SP13 incl JSPM/SDM
And guess what... problem is now also there in SP13.. so there must be something written into the db that is persistent no matter what you do in SDM or JSPM
My only solution I now are facing is to restore a backup of the db and continue from there and NOT apply any patches for the BIJava which made the problem to happen!
What is your scenario? Same as mine?

Installing NWDI in Existing SAP Portal

My project currently require to retrieve and modify ESS (personal information) standard code since the standard personal information in ESS will not meet our requirement.
I found out that i need NWDI installed in our environment in order to retrieve ESS (personal information) standard code.
my consideration is that we already implement several custom ESS using NWDS for SAP Portal.
By installing NWDI, will it have any impacts to existing custom ESS (using NWDS)?

Download the NWDI Component from service market place with same version and SP level.
DTR
CBS
CMS
SLD
Deploy the NWDI component througth SDM or JSPM. Once finished you can access with http://<Host>:<Port>/devinf
For designing track for ESS/MSS, refer to the JDI cookbook. for your custom development you can migrate to the NWDI.

How to implement the security notes in Java System.

Hi All,
For the ABAP systems we use RSECNOTE to implement the security notes, but how do we do that in Java systems?
Any reference or guidance will be of great help.

RSECNOTE is for ABAP only, and I dont think there is any equivalent for Java.
For Java , security note will guide you on how to implement.
It could be manual changes or via SDM or JSPM.

ESS - Business package and training records

Which BP revision we need to import for Training Records for ESS implementation?
I am thinking Training recoreds are not available in Business Package ECC 6.0 is it true?
how can we take these applications from the old versions of Business Packages (4.6c-4.7) and what the technical requirements in doing the same
we are using Configurations -
Backend system - SAP ERP 2005 (ECC 6.0)
NetWeaver 2004s,EP 7
BP for SAP ERP 2005

Yes Prior to moving your Webdynpro applications, you need to independently deploy the business packages in all your landscaping QA/PRD and then move the your webdynpro applications/pcd's/roles/worksets etc
you can deploy either from SDM or JSPM.
