Search doesn't show file path
When searching my HD, I cannot find the location of the files. I used to be able to hold the mouse over the file in the search box and it would show the location. How do I do this in Lion? It does find the file, but I would like to alos see where I put it! Call me old school! Thanks in advance for any help.

What search modality? Are you talking about spotlight? If so when you hover over the ouput and the info box opens, hold the option-command key and the file path presents itself at the bootm of the pane.
If it is a search in Finder file path at the bottom of Finder window results.
In no search Finder window you can control click the title of the Finder Window for path or control-click the tool bar and drag the Path icon to the toolbar.
Also Finder>View>show path bar

Ohh thanks guys!
It worked as a charm, and thanks Brisbin33 for the autostart.sh tip.
So the thing that caused my whole system not to work as it should was that I forgot to put a "&" after conky?
haha that´s kinda anoying I have been sitting and looking through like a milllion files looking for the answer
But again, really thanks!
/Neuwerld
that little "&" sends the conky process to the background freeing up the current process (your autostart.sh script) to finish doing what it's doing so you can move on to running openbox itself. with this in mind, it should be obvious why keeping conky in the foreground would cause problems.
also, replacing it with (sleep 1 && conky) & means... wait a second, when that's done successfully (&&) run conky, and put all of that () to the background. that way openbox comes up immediatly and only a second later you've got your panel and monitor.
all this after .xinitrc and before openbox -

Apple mail search doesn't show messages
I can normally search for sent and received emails by entering a persons email address in the search field with the spyglass icon, since last week I haven't been able to do this even though all messages show up in the inbox and sent folders. Is there a setting that I might have accidentally changed?
Step 1
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -F '$Time $Message' -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds | tail | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.
Step 2
Enter the following command as in Step 1 and post the output:
mdutil -as 2>&- | pbcopy
You can then quit Terminal.
Step 3
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Terminal. In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash reports related to Spotlight. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. A Spotlight crash report has a name beginning in "mds" or "mdworker" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent such report, if any, from the System and User subcategories and post the entire contents—the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful. -

I have a Ultra60 running 2.7 and an Ultra5 running 2.7 and on more than one occassion a piece, I insert a cd, the file manager for the cdrom comes up, but doesn't show the files on the cd. I know the cd works because I try in on another machine exactly like these. I've tried stop/starting vold, doesn't help. Then, after this happens, it somoetimes won't let me eject the cd.....
Whats the deal??
AndrewHmm, lets see:
1. Can you access the physical media?
dd if=/vol/dev/aliases/cdrom0 bs=2k count=100 of=/dev/null
should read 100 sectors from the cdrom and copies the
result to /dev/null. No error messages are expected here.
2. Is the volume manager able to identify the filesystem
format of the new cdrom?
fstyp /vol/dev/aliases/cdrom0
fstyp -v /vol/dev/aliases/cdrom0
should print something like hsfs or udfs (and some more
verbose info about the media in the -v case).
3. Is the media correctly mounted?
Check the "mount" or "df -k" output. You should see your
media mounted under /cdrom/....
4. Can you see the files from a command line window?
Open a dtterm, an list the cdrom: "ls -l /cdrom/cdrom0/."
Any files?
5. Any error messages in /var/adm/messages or /var/adm/vold.log? -
Finder doesn't show file saved in certain folder
Something very strange is happening to my mac.
In my Documents folder there is a folder named "CV". Whenever I try to save files to this destination (CV), these files won't show (at least immediately --- let's say in the next minutes) in the folder. BUT if I search for them in the finder, here they are! I can find them, open them...
If I save the same files to another location (the Documents folder, the Desktop), they are immediately saved to the specified destination.
Can anyone explain what is happening?OK, let me give you 5+10 points and mark this problem solved!
Thanks! I think that maybe it'sreally like you said - that some apps maybe prompted and today I noticed that the Finder doesn't, and got confused... -
Show file path in title bar CS3 Mac
Hi All, Is there a setting to make Dreamweaver CS3 Mac to
show the full path to the file in the title bar within Dreamweaver
Code View? Right now it only shows the name of the file. I work on
very complex web applications, and not having quick access to where
the file can be found is extremely frustrating, and may cause me to
use a different editor. Please someone tell me there is a fix for
this? My web searches turned up nothing. There is a widget in the code view toolbar that shows you
this information
for all open files.

Finder doesn't show file delete warning message
I think that some time ago when I deleted any file or folder in the Finder, it showed me warning message... Now when I select file and press Command+Backspace (Delete), file goes immediately to the Trash without any warning message. Is this correct or there had to be some warning? I looked in Finder's preferences, but couldn't find any check-box for that... If there should be a warning message, how can I restore it?
Thanks in advance!

Finder unresponsive and doesn't show files
Hey Guys,
I've been having this issue for a while now and it is bugging me.
I have Macbook Pro with retina display, after the latest update to OS X Mavericks, my finder started to go unresponsive..it wouldn't show the files in, sometimes have like a gray highlight on the folder name but wouldn't open or show what is in. No matter how many times I relaunch it I still have the issue until I restart my mac..but then soon it will go unresponsive..Any one has the same issue becuase I have never had it since I got my Mac in 2012? any suggestion?
ThanksCheck your Spotlight menu (looks like a magnifying glass in the upper right corner) and see if it says it is indexing.
If it is not, check Time Machine in Apple menu -> System Preferences to see if there is an active backup going on.
Do you have any third party system utilities installed? -
Finder doesn't show files that Terminal shows
Running 10.4.4. I have a zip file that expands into a folder containing many subfolders. Finder tells me that the majority of these folders are empty despite the zip file being several MB in size. Opening some, but not all, of the folders forces Finder to tell me what's really there but this doesn't work for all of the folders. I can go into Terminal and see the contents of every folder. What's going on here? This has never happened before. Repairing permissions didn't fix it. It's also happening with other folders not related to the zip file.
Here's an update. The zip file in question contains the latest version of a suite of Java applets that I've been using for some time. The developer just sent me the previous version and the latest version, but the latter was compressed with a different compression tool; he didn't say which one. I moved the two zip files onto my iBook G3 running OS X 10.3.8 and they both unzipped correctly. However, under 10.4.4 only the one compressed with the different compression tool unzipped correctly. This suggests a bug in 10.4.x does it not?

File Browser doesn't show files
I am trying to pull some of my pictures from my Media Hub but can't seem to do it.
All of the pictures show in the Home view but when I go the the File Browser...no files show up in the folders. The folders are on the left but when I click to open any of them there is nothing in them.
I have checked my settings but can't figure out what I am doing wrong....Check under the "import" folder in the file browser, your pictures might be stored there if you used the import tool.
Cheers. -

You can set the default calendar for new events with this info from the iPad iOS 8 user guide:
There are several settings in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars that affect Calendar and your calendar accounts. These include:
Default calendar for new events
And to add your Gmail contacts to your Contacts in the Menu Bar:
Contacts can manage your contact information from other accounts, such as Facebook and Google. Just add those accounts (choose Contacts > Add Account), and you’ll have access to all your current contact information from anywhere. -
Import dialog doesn't show files anymore (not even the ones on the hard drive)
I shoot pictures with a D70 (canon) and i imported them always with no problems. After a update or installation of a external program the import dialog does not show any pictures anymore. It's a black screen. The files can be read from the filebrowser and are regular cr2 files (raw files). What can I do? There are 149 files on the card and non are shown, see below
further in the forum I found this and it did the job
I would suggest you to reset Lightroom preferences and then check the same.
