Search function Help

I really need to know how to create a search function for a
website I'm creating, it's part of my University work. Any help
would be appreciated.

Search function in Help not working in any application

The Search function is not working in any application's Help. Upon entering the terms I need help for I get a hang at "Searching..." but never any result. This problem started sometime in the last year or so. Prior to that the search function in Help worked fine. My network connectivity is excellent.
I recently reinstalled OS X 10.5 but I'm sure the problem existed before that and persisted after the reinstall.
The reinstall was due to upgrading to 10.7 and only then finding that I had lost needed functionality, but I don't think this has anything to do with the current problem. All other aspects of Help seem to be working fine
I don't find any reference to this problem anywhere so I'm hoping someone can help with my Help(!) problem. Thanks in advance.

Try running your Leopard install disk again, as well as the 10.5.8 combo updater. This might reinstall any 'missing bits'.
You can do this without deleting the hard drive, just install straight over your existing system, but close all applications and external devices first.

I use the RH_ShowHelp API command to connect a HTML Help file
(.chm file generated by RoboHelp Word X 5) to my Visual C++
application. My application is able to call up this HTML help file
in context-sensitive mode and everything is working great in the
Contents and Index panels EXCEPT when I click on List Topics (after
I enter a KEYWORD for search) in the Search panel.
I got an error that said “Unhandled exception in
xxxx.exe.(HHCTRL.OCX):0xC00000FD: Stack overflow”
I am able to execute this .chm file by itself and the search
function works well in this case. I am using HHActiveX.dll that is
created on 2/23/04. Is this the correct version?? Any advice what
to do here??

Hi agschin and welcome to the RH forums. The hhactivex.dll
file is not used by the search function so you can rule that our.
Have you tried recompiling and seeing if the problem still happens?
You can also start the Bug Hunter feature in RH - View > Output
View and then select the Bug Hunter button - and see if that throws
up any clues.

The search function in the itunes store does not work. It will accept a request and suggest searches but then it locks up and will not search. Clicking on the magnifying glass or a suggested search does nothing. Re-installing itunes has not helped.

Search functionality no longer works in any of my recently generated HTML Help projects

I'm using Rh 10.0.1.292 and Rh 11.0.4.291 for different projects.
Recently, I've noticed that the Search feature returns no results, in any of my projects that are generated in either Rh10 or 11. I just get the "No topics found" message. This used to work.
The only thing that has been done recently (that I can think of) involved working with .slp files to fix an issue with the Glossary tab and the Search functionality in a Rh 11 Responsive HTML5 layout. (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1690579) I can't, however, see how that would break the Search functionality in my HTML projects.
Any ideas?

In either Rh 10 and 11, whenever I generated a project as HTML Help (even an example project) the Search functionality was broken. Finally, when I couldn't think of what else to try, I uninstalled and reinstalled Rh 10, and that solved my problem--in both Rh 10 and 11!
Apparently some file was corrupted, but I don't know what was broken or what caused the corruption. I am still trying to get some clarification from Adobe, but so far, I have only received the following comments:
The robohelp cache folder and the preferences might have caused this.
The problem can be either with the updates on system.
If I should receive any definitive information, I will update this post.

The search function on my "sent" mail does not work. When I type in more than two letters into the saerch box - the sent mail screen goes blank. Any ideas how to fix this? Apple technical support has not been much help for the past five days...

Why is Flash Help/Search function so worthless?

Is it just me or is the Flash help function the worst help
function ever?
In other software you get the results you were looking for in
seconds
in Flash everytime you do a search you get like a hundred
different
search results and usually none cover the topic you were
looking for.
Its often easier to search on google than use the internal
help function
Why is it so hard to only display relevant results?
Could anyone teach me how to use the search function cause I
dont want
to read 1000 pages just to find out the difference between
align and distribute
options etc.

Help needed: Search function for custom Repository Manager

i'm writing my own Repository Manager for EP 6.0 SP2 PL4.
I've serious problems getting the search function running. I'm using the 'new', Netweaver-based API.
I think, there are some general questions to answer:
- My Repository Manager exposes lots of custom
   properties to the system. I create the properties
   for example using following code:

     myAttVal,                         PropertyFlags.constructFlags(
              true, false, true, false)
    Is there any convention for the propertie's name?
    I think it has to be written in lowercase only?
    Can I use ANY namespace I want instead of the
    empty default namespace? (For example:
- After indexing my resources (of course, containing my
   custom properties), the TREX-Monitoring screen for my
   index shows all my custom properties in the 'Document
   Properties' area, but all uppercase chars are escaped
   somewhat. Is this OK?
- Trying to use the index above to search for particular
   resources in my repository by my custom properties
   fails all the time ('no docs found...'); searching for
   any system property works fine. What's the reason?
- How can I force the (Property-) search uses my
   custom namespace-manager's methods
   isQueryPropertyNameUnderstood() and
   getQueryBuilder()
   to perform a 'pure' property search by the repository
   manager? It seems that the TREX always handles the
   queries by itself, because my methods are never called.

I created a new manager and copied the classes exactly from the "simple" example and I see similar behavior. Actually, when I do this, folders are recursively copied, but not files. Again, browsing and viewing of files work fine. Again, I am not seeing any unexpected exceptions.
The only thing that changed were the names and namespaces. Nothing else at all was changed.
This makes me think I am missing some configuration somewhere or there is something special about the example project that the wizards are not creating. The only difference I see in the project file is an additional nature (com.tssap.selena.cmf.PatternNature), but I am not sure that is relevant.
Wow, I am really stumped.

After rebuilding my Outlook identity, the search function is no longer working. I have rebuilt again, restarted computer, etc. Are there other tips?

Search function in Reader, please help!!! at wits end!

I have an excel file with multiple columns converted to a pdf.
When using search function in adobe reader how do I get search to
return a line of data from what was column a in excel to column f?
Now it returns partial data from one line and then wraps around
to the next line and returns data from that line also.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

When it goes from Excel to Acrobat, it "prints" the PDF.
As a printed document, Reader knows no cells, columns or rows. Only text.
I've found that if I export an xls to Word and set it in tables, the printing seems to be more compliant when it's printed to PDF and it's easier to work within the original layout's integrity.
That's the extent of what I can offer. I just don't set many excel workbooks to PDF.
Hopefully there's someone else here with more experience doing this.

Hi and welcome to the discussions. This happens once in a while for no apparent reason. When it happens to me, a simple log out/log in usually gets things going again. I haven't researched to see what process died when this happens.
If that doesn't, then a restart, but first check Spotlight in System Preferences and make sure that the Privacy list is empty.

Help Desk Tech Search function

We use the ticket system to work along side our Security Officer, and have made him a Help Desk Tech so he doesn't get spammed with all of the tickets being opened, but ti also sacrifices his Search function in the Help Desk.
Basically if we turn off help desk emails in his account, he gets NO help desk emails including his assigned tickets or tickets he creates. If we make him an admin he gets all of the tickets as they are created.
Because he creates quite a few tickets, it would be helpful for him to be able to search his tickets. Is there a way to get him the Search function without him getting all of the open ticket emails, and still getting ticket updates for tickets he creates OR are assigned to him?

Search function freezes Finder - any help?

i recently reformatted my computer. i wanted to upgrade to 10.4 but my disk for it just didn't want to work in my computer, so i simply put Panther back on. i am currently running 10.3.9 and most everything seems to work well. it takes a lot longer to boot up than it used to but otherwise no complaints EXCEPT:
my Search function doesn't work well at all. when i run a search (any type) my Finder grinds to a terribly slow speed or just totally freezes. i can continue to run any other programs, but Force Quit won't even pop up. i have to turn the computer off by hand.
this was a pain but avoidable until i went to install some software yesterday and found that when the installation program began to "search" my computer, the process froze up (despite repeated attempts).
is there a way to get Search back to normal?

Please explainn the procedure you used for this operation.
Were you using a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD?
How did re reinstall Panther?
Have you run Repair Disk & Repair Permissions?
What size is your Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?

IPhone 5s Voice memo to mp3. Now music on iPhone. Won't play from search function.

I record my band rehearsals using the voice memo on my iPhone 5s. Then I sync to iTunes and convert file to mp3. When i sync back to my iPhone it appears in my music. So far, so good. When I use the search function in music it finds the file but won't play from tapping. I must troll through all my music songs (currently 2227 of them) to find it and then play it. Is it something to do with it still being under the genre "voice memos" or what ? Anybody help please. Thanks
