Search help paramter to be filled during runtime

Hi Experts,
                  I have a requirement to create a search help, below is the description of my requirement....
1. I have two search help parameters in the search help.
     Division         (1st parameter)
     Divistion text  (2nd Parameter)
2.When the user provides the Division, then Division text parameter has to be filled automatically during the runtime. Logic needs to be handled only in the Search help exit(Function module) .
Kindly provide your valuable suggestions regarding this requirement. Contributions will be highly appriciated. Thanks

In your search help exit, in events SELECT and DISP, manipulate the values in the table SHLP with your new field.
For example
IF callcontrol-step = 'SELECT'.
SHLP-INTERFACE-SHLPFIELD = 'DIVISIONTEXT'.
APPEND SHLP-INTERFACE.
SHLP-FIELDDESCR-FIELDNAME = 'DIVISIONTEXT'.
SHLP-FIELDDESCR-LANGU = 'E'.
SHLP-FIELDDESCR-POSITION = '0002'.
SHLP-FIELDDESCR-DOMNAME = 'ZDIVISIONTEXTDOMAIN'
.etc(all relevant fields)
APPEND SHLP-FIELDDESCR.
MODIFY SHLP_TAB FROM SHLP.
ENDIF.

    Hey everyone,
    I have built a screen with a Table Control on it... the fields of the table control are linked to an internal table...  The internal table has the line type of a structure I've defined in the data dictionary.  Within that structure in the data dictionary, I've linked some fields to search helps (For example, a MATNR and CUSTOMER search help)...  I've defined in the structure definition which fields from the search help are to be returned to which fields in the structure.
    The problem is, even though I have the search help set to export both the customer number and location when using the search help on the customer field, it still does not fill the location field within the table.  Is this a limitation of using search helps within table controls?
    I'm also finding that by defining the search help through the structure, instead of directly within the screen, the search help round button does not show up on the field, yet I can still press F4 to bring up the search help.  Is there a reason why it's not showing the search help clickable button even though it works fine using F4?
    For doing search helps in Table Controls, is it better to just build the search help, attach it directly to the field in the table, and then after the user picks the single field, use the PAI to run a select and fill the rest of the fields required?

    What  i understood is that you added a search help by defining it in the internal table type for a field customer number..in the search help you have 2 fields customer number and location...user press the search help ..then you need to fill 2 different fields or 1 field?
    if you need to fill the customer location or location (only one) then you need to set the "import" in the search help for whichever is required.....
    if you need to fill 2 or more different fields..then you can use the technique you have mentioned last , to do a select in PAI and fill the fields....but this you can use if the combination for the fields is unique...eg: u have customer number and location..if customer X can be mapped to location X and location Y..when a select statement is done there are 2 options..so in such cases it is better to leave the option to the user otherwise if there is a clear mapping like customer X can be mapped only to location X then you can use the select..

    usually when you define it as a type in the internal table the icon doesn't show up..but you can do alternative like mentioned..go to the table,find the search help for the required field if present or create a new one if required and place the search help mentioned in the screen itself..so as to see the icon...sometimes users are adamant that they need the search help icon to be seen..so it depends on if your user

    as in the example of customer number and location mentioned we can provide them different search helps and do the needful processing in PAI to fill the fields
    Table controls may be used for different purposes and requirements....even a checkbox,push button can be placed as a field in table control and used,but yes most of the time requirements are like what is mentioned in your case...

    No, but you can build F4 help on the fly at runtime based off another field.
    For example, in this program, the user enters the sales order number, and then when they do F4 on the line item, they can only choose from valid line item numbers.

  • Read webdynpro screen value before Search Help call

    Hi Experts,
    For a webdynpro screen I have added a custom field to the layout and mapped to a custom attribute which has a a standard search help determined from the dictionary attribute.
    There are multiple input field in the layout and there is this custom input field with search help in the layout. During runtime is it possible to read the other inputfield in the layout before F4 is clicked? I want to read one of the inputfield whenever the f4 search help is called. None of the methods WDDOAFTERACTION, WDDOBEFOREACTION, WDDOMODIFYVIEW are triggered before the F4 search help call.
    Please let me know if anyone has any idea.

  • Need some help in creating Search Help for standard screen/field

    I need some help in adding a search-help to a standard screen-field.
    Transaction Code - PP01,
    Plan Version - Current Plan (PLVAR = '01'),
    Object Type - Position ( OTYPE = 'S'),
    Click on Infotype Name - Object ( Infotype 1000) and Create.
    I need to add search help to fields Object Abbr (P1000-SHORT) / Object Name (P1000-STEXT).
    I want to create one custom table with fields, Position Abb, Position Name, Job. Position Abb should be Primary Key. And when object type is Position (S), I should be able to press F4 for Object Abb/Object Name fields and should return Position Abbr and Position Name.
    I specify again, I have to add a new search help to standard screen/field and not to enhance it.
    This is HR specific transaction. If someone has done similar thing with some other transation, please let me know.
    There is no existing search help for these fields. If sm1 ever tried or has an idea how to add new search help to a standard screen/field.
    It's urgent.

    A search help exit is a function module for making the input help process described by the search help more flexible than possible with the standard version.
    This function module must have the same interface as function module F4IF_SHLP_EXIT_EXAMPLE. The search help exit may also have further optional parameters (in particular any EXPORTING parameters).
    A search help exit is called at certain timepoints in the input help process.
    Note: The source text and long documentation of the above-specified function module (including the long documentation about the parameters) contain information about using search help exits.
    Function modules are provided in the function library for operations that are frequently executed in search help exits. The names of these function modules begin with the prefix F4UT_. These function modules can either be used directly as search help exits or used within other search help exits.     2. PRESEL1
    After selecting an elementary search help. Table INTERFACE has not yet been copied to table SELOPT at this timepoint in the definition of the search help (type SHLP_DESCR_T). This means that you can still influence the attachment of the search help to the screen here. (Table INTERFACE contains the information about how the search help parameters are related to the screen fields).
    3. PRESEL
    Before sending the dialog box for restricting values. This timepoint is suitable for predefining the value restriction or for completely suppressing or copying the dialog.
    4. SELECT
    Before selecting the values. If you do not want the default selection, you should copy this timepoint with a search help exit. DISP should be set as the next timepoint.
    5. DISP
    Before displaying the hit list. This timepoint is suitable for restricting the values to be displayed, e.g. depending on authorizations.
    6. RETURN (usually as return value for the next timepoint)
    The RETURN timepoint should be returned as the next step if a single hit was selected in a search help exit.
    It can make sense to change the F4 flow at this timepoint if control of the process sequence of the Transaction should depend on the selected value (typical example: setting SET/GET parameters). However, you should note that the process will then depend on whether a value was entered manually or with an input help.
    7. RETTOP
    You only go to this timepoint if the input help is controlled by a collective search help. It directly follows the timepoint RETURN. The search help exit of the collective search help, however, is called at timepoint RETTOP.
    8. EXIT (only for return as next timepoint)
    The EXIT timepoint should be returned as the next step if the user had the opportunity to terminate the dialog within the search help exit.
    9. CREATE
    The CREATE timepoint is only accessed if the user selects the function "Create new values". This function is only available if field CUSTTAB of the control string CALLCONTROL was given a value not equal to SPACE earlier on.
    The name of the (customizing) table to be maintained is normally entered there. The next step returned after CREATE should be SELECT so that the newly entered value can be selected and then displayed.
    10. APP1, APP2, APP3
    If further pushbuttons are introduced in the hit list with function module F4UT_LIST_EXIT, these timepoints are introduced. They are accessed when the user presses the corresponding pushbutton.
    Note: If the F4 help is controlled by a collective search help, the search help exit of the collective search help is called at timepoints SELONE and RETTOP. (RETTOP only if the user selects a value.) At all other timepoints the search help exit of the selected elementary search help is called.
    If the F4 help is controlled by an elementary search help, timepoint RETTOP is not executed. The search help exit of the elementary search help is called at timepoint SELONE (at the

    This module has been created as an example for the interface and design of Search help exits in Search help.
    All the interface parameters defined here are mandatory for a function module to be used as a search help exit, because the calling program does not know which parameters are actually used internally.
    A search help exit is called repeatedly in connection with several
    events during the F4 process. The relevant step of the process is passed on in the CALLCONTROL step. If the module is intended to perform only a few modifications before the step, CALLCONTROL-STEP should remain unchanged.
    However, if the step is performed completely by the module, the following step must be returned in CALLCONTROL-STEP.
    The module must react with an immediate EXIT to all steps that it does not know or does not want to handle.

    In search help of material,i have selected plant-warehouse-storage location tab, if i select a material then not only material should get fill up but the corresponding warehouse and plant should also get fill up in their respective input box.

  • Fill data in 2 fields on selection screen from a search help

    I have defined a custom search help as given below.
    Selection Method : ZTSTCT
    Search Help Parameters : 
    TCODE Importing & Exporting
    TTEXT Exporting Only
    I have two parameters in my report as declared below:
    PARAMETERS : tcode TYPE tstct-tcode  MATCHCODE OBJECT zm_tstc,
                 ttext TYPE tstct-ttext.
    Now whenever a user selects any TCODE in the help ZM_TSTC, I need both the fields on the selection screen to be filled with appropriate data. When I tested the search help in SE11, both fields are getting filled with appropriate data but in the report only the field TCODE gets filled. Is there any way to get the other field also filled with the appropriate data ?

    Use the select query from the method ZTSTCT.
    select single  TTEXT into ttext from ZTSTCT where TCODE = TCODE.

    Hi Ismail,
        You can attach dictionary search helps to a field at runtime using the method set_attribute_value_help( ) of the class if_wd_context_node_info. This is a recently added feature.
        If this method doesn't exist on your server please contact your system administrator to get the latest notes imported into the system.
        You can check the value entered in the first column and accordingly set the F4 help in the second column using the above method.

  • Find collective Search Help for partner function at runtime

    Hi experts,
    I have a screen very similar to VF05. When I enter the partner function, the corresponding field for the partner function, I want a collective search help to open.
    If I enter the partner function - Employee responsible, then the search help PERM has to be called or for partner function Payer, I want the search help DEBI to be called. Can anyone let me know how can I get the related partner functions, without hardcoding for every partner function. Something similar to the VF05 report.

    Collective search helps:- Combination of elementary search helps. When we need to fetch data based on multiple selection criteriau2019s. More than one tables are Selection from multiple tables
    Steps for creating collective search help.
    1) Enter the search help name and click on create.
    2) Choose Collective search help radio button option as the search help type.
    3) Enter the search help parameters.
    Note that there is no selection method to be entered for a collective search help.
    4) Instead of the selection method, we enter the included search helps for the collective search help.
    5)We need to assign parameters for each of the included search helps.
    6) Complete the parameter assignment by clicking on the push button.
    7) Collective search help offers the user to obtain F4 help using any of the included search helps.

    I have 2 fields and I have a matchcode for the first one. Since the end one is a description field, I would like that the when I choose a value from the searchhelp, it return 2 values , 1 to each field...one for name, and one for description
    Is this possible and how?

    Assumptions: The math code you have for the first field is custom (means You created that Match code)
    for your req:
    you need to go into the search help and do some modifications.
    Se11> search help > ex: BUPAP > change
    check the check box for the second field (description) IMP (import)
    which means when you see the two fields in the search help screen and select ur choice the description will also get imported to the screen.

  • Search Help to display 2 different fields/values

    Hi Everyone,
    I am going to use a search help for a certain screen transaction using a search help. A certain input field should have an F4 function (using list box). The values to be displayed after F4 input should be the Business Object type and BP number. This input field is can display either of the two fields.
    How can I do this? Do I need to create a new search help for this? Business Object is from table SWOTIP field OBJTYPE and BP Number is form table BUT000 field PARTNER.

    The input help should have two possible values. It may be the Org unit number or the Business Partner number.
    As for my experience in search help, the only thing I know about it is to set a reference db table then the field which is to be displayed during F4. For example, an input help requires a Plant number, the search help will have a reference table (selection method) T001W and a parameter of field WERKS.
    What if the input field can contain either an org unit number OR a business partner number, how should I create the search help? What should be the selection method (table name) to be filled? Is it the BUT000 (for bus partner) or HRP1001 (for org unit)?

  • Search Help for Hierarchy Node in SAP BW 7.3

    Hi Experts,
    We were previously using SAP BW 7.1 system and we had a table which used to be maintained through SM30 which has a customed search help on one of the fields for a hierarchy object. And it was working perfectly.
    However, one of our systems have just been migrated into 7.3 version and the above functionality is no longer working.
    This is what is happening now:
    - User selects a hierarchy and after selection nothing is being displayed on field on the table.
    We have tried to debug this customed search help in both environments to distinguish what is wrong. We have noted that a standard function module (RRSV_IOBJ_VALUE_OUTPUT) is not behaving similarly. In 7.1 system, the C_T_DATA table is being filled whereby in the 7.3 system, it is empty.
    Do you think this is the issue?
    Please do advise and propose what can be done to make it work. Or any idea on how to create a new search help for a hierarchy node in 7.3?

    one more thing i will like to add here is in BW 7.3 you get a new security admin feature that allows you to make mass changes to authorizations instead of one-by-one. This can be done by cut-and-paste in a worklist, hierarchy nodes, and you can also add users to multiple analysis authorizations.
    The u2018newu2019 authorizations has both the data value and hierarchy restrictions. You can still build using the u201CRSECADMINu201D transaction
    Also make sure that all objects are in the TLIBG library and they will be 'shielded' during the upgrade.

  • How to determine the target system during runtime of a Generic DS?

    I am coding a Generic Extractor using Function Module. I have to select the field TIMESTAMP on table ROOSPRMSC. To do so, I need the value of RLOGSYS that is the BW system that is calling the Extractor.
    Do anybody knows how to determine via ABAP the RLOGSYS (Remote Logical System) during the runtime of the Generic DataSource Function Module?
    The table ROOSPRMSC keep the TIMESTAMPs values of the last delta upload for each DataSource and for each BW target system. As I have 2 BW's loading data from the same SAP ECC system, I need to know, during runtime of my Generic DataSource, the actual system that is requesting the delta. That's the reason why I need to know the BW's logical system name that is "runnig" the delta InfoPackage.

    The calling program of your FM should have a local variable I_RLOGSYS which is populated with the BW server ID.
    If you don't know how to access a variable in a program that is in call stack using field symbols, search SDN.
    I haven't tested this, so you may have to explore a little.

    If i click GO button on search page then it pass the selected Poplists values as a Bound values to VO Sql query at runtime after this I store the search results in a Table(Which is created by using New Region Wizard).
    I want to pass the Bind parameter values to VO SQL query during runtime and :1,:2,:3,:4,:5,:6,:7 values are coming from Poplists.
    I search through forum I found many threads regarding Bind Values but those all are passing ID's only not String(Varchar) values.
