Search result is empty in few subsites

Hi,
Search is giving empty results for the few sub sites. Even though we have run Full Crawl. Last time same thing happened and REINDEX was the solution.
Could you please advise, what would be the best troubleshooting steps for this situation?
Thanks,
Srabon

Try Re indexing again and try to wait for the timer job to run for full crawl again...if it still does not appear...Try to open a ticket for the Microsoft support center ...It seems that the timer job might have been stuck at the back end and the back
end team might need to put their hands on to go in and run it manually ! Reindexing this issue
The search index is built up by crawling the content on your SharePoint site. The crawler picks up content and metadata from the documents in the form of crawled properties. To get the content and metadata from the documents into the search index, the crawled
properties must be mapped to managed properties. Only managed properties are kept in the index. This means that users can only search on managed properties.
When you have changed a managed property, or when you have changed the mapping of crawled and managed properties, the site must be re-crawled before your changes will be reflected in the search index. Because your changes are made in the search schema, and
not to the actual site, the crawler will not automatically re-index the site. To make sure that your changes are crawled and fully re-indexed, you must request a re-indexing of the site. The site content will be re-crawled and re-indexed so that you can start
using the managed properties in queries, query rules and display templates.
You can also choose to only re-index a document library or a list. When you have changed a managed property that’s used in a library or list, or changed the mapping of crawled and managed properties, you can specifically request a re-indexing of that library
or list only. All of the content in that library or list is marked as changed, and the content is picked up during the next scheduled crawl and re-indexed
There are some Service Interruptions currently going on in the few online farms but since you are doing it on the central premise.. It should definitely be working if the backend team is involved or if you check the behavior after re indexing and waiting
for some time ! Give it a try and ill be connected 24 *7 to help u out here...Thanks !
If you find this information helpful then please vote for me here ! :)

  • SharePoint 2010 Content from top level site hidden from search results on subsite.

    Hi Everyone,
The issue I am having is that when a group of people are in there site, we'll call it site B, and they hit the search function, they only get results from site B and subsites of site B, but nothing from the top level site, site A. does anyone know of anyway
to get results from site A when searching in site B? This would really help me out a lot.
    Thanks!
    Best regards, Mike

    Hi Mike,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the content in top level site in search results page when doing search in subsites.
By default, the search scope is set to This Site in all sites, so the search scope in subsites is limited to the subsites.
I recommend to create a Search Center and then edit the Search settings in the top level site settings, please refer to the image below:

  • Clicking on a search result opens up an empty tab

    Hi there,
I have Thunderbird installed on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
When I search for an old email, I enter a search term into the search bar and hit ENTER.
I can then see various relevant search results.
When I click on certain results the tab that opens up is empty and simply has a divider in between.

    Help menu > troubleshooting information.
Click the button to open the profile folder.
    Close Thunderbird
    Delete the file "global-messaage-db.sqlite"
    Restart Thunderbird.
Note all searches will return nothing or incomplete results until the index file is fully regenerated.

  • Alphabetize Search Result Subsites on a Home Page in Office 365

    Location: TeamSite
Issue: Alphabetizing search results listed on Home Page
I understand how to alphabetize subsites on the quick launch and top link bars. I cannot, however, determine how to organize subsite search results alphabetically by title when listed on the Home Page. I've tried adjusting the query string and sorting settings
of the Search Results with no luck. In fact, the sorting tab for building my search query lists the subsites in alphabetical order (though it only shows about half of the total number of subsites), while on the Home Page the subsites are not displayed alphabetically.
I've attached a screenshot of the Home Page and the Sorting tab for your reference.

    Hi Aprice,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to alphabetize subsites from search results in Office 365 site. Is it right?
In SharePoint 2013 Online, there is a managed property called SiteTitle. If you go to SharePoint Admin Center->search->Manage Search Schema, and find and edit the managed property, you will see Sortable:No, and you cannot edit the option.
So, we think we can create a new managed property and enable it sortable. However, in SharePoint Online, when you create a new managed property, it will have some limitations. For example, the property can only be of type Text or Yes/No, and it can't
be refinable or sortable. More information, you can refer to
    it.
As a workaroud, you can map the crawled property (ows_SiteName) to an already created Managed Property in SPO (RefinableString00) as shown in the below image:
Then go to your Office 365 site, and edit the search results web part to sort the results as the managed property(RefinableString00).
In addition, as this issue is related to Office 365, I suggest you create a new thread on Office 365 forum. The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums
regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Searching in Mail.app: results lost after a few seconds

    Mail.app  (Version 7.3 (1878.2))
Anyone finding that sometimes searching in Mail.app loses the results after a few seconds?
Suppose I'm in my Inbox and I want to search. I type in a search term, the results will appear as expected, but then after a few seconds – without doing anything – the search results are replaced by my Inbox again.
The work around is simply to retype the search term.
(I've already reindexed my hard disk.)
    Best wishes, Jon

This started happening to me only recently.  Same hardware, no OS update - most obvious thing I'd changed recently is that I'd gone from having one (enabled) mail account to two.  Previously it was just one Exchange account, and the new account is a Google IMAP account.  I'm going to test to see if the problem goes away when I disable *either* of them (suggesting the problem is in how Mail.app handles multiple enabled accounts) or if I must specifically disable the Google IMAP account (suggesting the problem is specifically in how Mail.app handles Google and/or IMAP).

  • How to sort web app items based on few fields of it on search result page?

I have a web app and its search. The search results are on multiple pages means it has pagination. My client's requirement is to have a feature which will sort results based on some web app items. for example we have a field price so when user select the price it needs to sort from high to low. Any one have idea how to do it?

I have just been playing around with this for something else, all you need to do is duplicate your price field into the weighting field and it will automatically sort from High to low for you.
    Cheers

  • How come in Finder, when I search "This Mac", there's fewer results than when searching somewhere more specific? Shouldn't it be the opposite?

I have my preferences set so that New Finder windows show Macintosh HD. So when I open a Finder window, five folders are shown: Applications, Library, System, User Information, and User. As an example of the subject of my question, I opened a Finder window and typed "hp" in the search field. Four results were displayed: HP ePrint.app, two other apps that open the printing queues of HP printers, and an HTML document of bookmarks with two bookmarks containing "hp" in their names. My goal of the search* was to find a folder named "hp", of which there are two that I know of on my computer. Their locations are: 'Macintosh HD/Library/Printers' and 'Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support'—neither folder was found when searched for in "This Mac" nor when searched for in "Macintosh HD". When I searched for "hp" in the Library folder, 36 results were displayed, including the two folders named "hp". Above those 36 items, it clearly indicated that my search was conducted in the Library folder, and that I was able to click "This Mac" to search my whole computer instead. Clicking "This Mac" resulted in the same four items that were found when I searched for "hp" immediately after opening the Finder window to be displayed again. In my mind, clicking "This Mac" should at least keep the 36 items found in my Library folder to remain displayed. My reason for thinking this is because the Library folder is contained in "This Mac", isn't it? The same logic applies to Macintosh HD also; why doesn't searching there return at least the same 36 results? This phenomenon of the contained location returning more search results than the location which contains it frustrates me. When I search for something, I have to guess if it's in Library or System (if it's in one of the other folders, I'm always certain of which to search). I know that doesn't seem like a big deal, it just doesn't make sense to me why I can't find things by searching in "This Mac" or Macintosh HD. Until I got this MacBook (15" Pro Retina mid 2012, 2.6/16/256) , I was a lifelong Windows user. I love my MacBook, but this search idiosyncrasy is the only thing about it that seems inferior to its Windows counterpart. Searching for something in Windows is easier to me because locations behave hierarchically. I still like my MBP way better than any other computer that I've ever owned before, I just wish Apple would change this one attribute. If anyone knows how to make the Finder search behave completely hierarchically (when the containing location returns at least the same search results as the location it contains), please let me know. Thank you.
*The "hp" folder search that I conducted was done only as an example of the issue that I discussed here. I knew where the folders were, thus, it was easier for me to explain the problem that was posed in my question.

Start with http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/stopspotlightindex.html, then my mod to Finder's Find at http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080229204517495 for what you can change so you can find stuff excluded by the default structure.

  • Messages in search results won't open and can't be found

I run a local search in the search box on the top right of the email screen. Three messages are found. I click on any of the three messages, and the message list screen appears, but the message is not listed.
Is there any way to determine where these three messages are stored? They apparently still exist somewhere, but I can't find them.
I can search for other keywords, and the search function works just fine. Somehow, these three messages are being stored somewhere obscure.
Thanks for any guidance you can provide.
Additional Information: The left side bar of the search results indicates that the messages are in a folder I created within Local Folders, but that folder just isn't there.

There's good news and bad news. With your guidance, I was able to rebuild the Global Database. It took just a few minutes to re-index. Unfortunately, those three messages are gone completely now -- no shadow of them remaining when I rerun the search. I suspect that, while the messages were seemingly invisible, the folder they were in got deleted under the assumption that the folder was now empty. Oops. Oh well. Whatchagonna do! It makes me wonder, though, what other emails might be gone now that I'm not even aware of.
It sounds like rebuilding the Global Database might be a regular maintenance item for me moving forward.
Thanks so much for your help! I really do appreciate it.

  • Saved searches/search results

This might've been asked earlier but I haven't been able to find anything: Is there anyway I can save my searches/search results in the iTunes Music Store? Due to lack of availability of quite a bit of music in the store quite a few of my searches come up empty or don't show the desired song/artist/album. Obviously, I'd like to be able to come back a week/month/year later and check if anything changed, i.e. if the piece has been added. Any way I can do that? Or does anybody know if that's a future enhancement of the store?
    Thanks,
    Heiko.

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop down list:
#Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
#Highlight an entry in the drop down list
#Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

  • Web page different from opening link in a new tab or new window from Google search results

I had been using another browser for a few months because I did not want to lose the web pages I opened within Mozilla. I began using Mozilla again after saving off the web pages. I see that Google's web page pulls in search results as I type in keywords, a feature I don't remember seeing with other browsers along with a magnifying glass icon, like a look ahead of what a web page looks like before clicking on the link.
With the list of search results, I click on the link and tell Mozilla to open the link in a new tab. I see the google icon, "loading..." or "testing...", then results other than the link I wanted. Those other results maybe bing.com, http://66.45.255.230/click.php?c=0920f96609cb269f1d0045095c09, http://superpages.iarbiz.com/o6gIoMdG6so=-tQ1LeOu1v0kY34rDZ|oRy8Xt294ACu6X, Info.com, Supermedia Reverse Proxy (http://superpages.iarbiz.com/o6gIoMdG6so=-tQ1LeOu1v0kY34rDZ|oRy8Xt294ACu6X)or whatever else. As for the link, I managed to press stop before being redirected.
This is with any search results listed.
    I thought it was Google.
    Changed to Instant is off.
Nope. Still the same issue. Have already gone after malware. Tried resetting the redirect value to 0.
Above results also occur when opening the link in a new page via right menu click.
Copying link location and pasting in a new window is displaying results okay.
When resuming use of Mozilla, an update was available and installed. Did not experience the above issues before the update.
Running version 3.6.12. Running Win XP Pro SP3.
Had to go back to IE and Chrome/SRWare Iron.
    Example:
    Google keywords: rental cars
Clicked on Ad: _Avis_Rent_a_Car_, link is Avis.com
Clicked on top search result: Hertz_Rent-a-Car_-_Rental_Car_Discounts,_Coupons,_and_Great_Rates (magnifying glass), www.hertz.com

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.<br />
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • Google add-on search: A lot of the time when I click on the search results, it sends me to a site called "Infomash"!?

Don't know what I've done wrong, all I can think of is update firefox in the past few months. I use Malwarebytes and bitdefender. I also have Stinger installed. Nothing is picking up a hijacker or anything. However, everyday...when I use firefox (only browser I use) I do a search through the google add on, and the results show up. I click on the one I want, and about 1 out of 5 times a site called "infomash" pops up. I hit back, click on the same result...and I get what I wanted. NOTHING will detect this!
All of a sudden tonight, I've been searching things for a video game. Looking where to find a gun for the game. CLEARLY state the name of the game and everything in the google search.
I click on this link: (Not actual link, but search result above it)
    http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Xuanlong_assault_rifle
And it takes me to this link!
    http://www.brownells.com/
I hit the back button, click on the link search result above again....and that time it takes me to the right one.
I don't play games on this pc, don't have several things installed. Mainly just use it for email (don't download hardly anything from email), facebook, amazon, ebay, and work.

This is indeed caused by a virus - and that I'm 99.99% sure (beware of the 0.01% though) - I've searched some forums around and it really seems to be malware.
Edit: Be sure to update your current paid antivirus and to perform an on-demand scan before buying another.
You're gonna need other security tools to test this, since your infection is probably TDSS or others. These kinds of malware tend to install more malware, that installs more malware, and so on.
Your best bet here is a paid antivirus, but there are more antivirus in this world that you haven't tried, such as,
    [http://www.safer-networking.org ],
If none of these work, I'd highly recommend a paid antivirus (this is a potential rootkit, not exactly the easiest thing to detect)
    Good antivirus to choose from:
    -TrustPort*
    -GDATA*
    -Kaspersky
    -AVIRA
    -F-Secure -ESET
-BitDefender (the one you own) -eScan
Antiviruses marked with * are partially based on BitDefender, and it might be best to look into others.
(in order of my personal recommendation in terms of detection-it might not be worth anything and it doesnt account for speed of scanning)
There are some free tools that have been "claimed" to solve this issue.

  • Outlook 2013 crashes when opening Calendar search result

I have a user who uses her Outlook 2013 calendar extensively, mainly to note for herself when she has spoken to a customer, and creating appointments for when she needs to speak to them again. (This is outside of our policy to note the contact in
MS CRM.) She can have scores of such Calendar items each day.
When seraching for these appointments in her Calendar, she gets the list of results, but Oulook crashes when she tries to open any of them. Sometimes Outlook restarts on its own, sometimes she must relaunch it herself.
Related threads reference a wwlib.dll error, but she is not getting that. It is Outlook.exe itself that is crashing. There are other threads that reference other open windows, or items containing webpages or tables, but these do not apply to her, either.

On answers.microsoft.com, Girish M (Support Engineer who eventally directed me here), asked me to run Scanpst.exe. I would paste the results here, but this window does not seem to allow pasting. A summary description of what it found on her .ost file (no
.pst in use) is basically this:
    **Beginning NDB recovery
      **Attempting to open database
      **Attempting to validate header
      **Attempting to validate AMap
      **Attempting to validate BBT
      **Attempting to validate NBT
      **Attempting to validate BBT refcounts
??Couldint find BBT entry in the RBT (E025CC)
**Attempting to validate header NID high-water marks
    **Beginning PST/OST recovery
**Attempting to recover all top-level objects
        **Store created by biuld: 15.4517
      **Attempting to walk all folders
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 719
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6CD
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6DE
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6D8
and so on, and so on, with a few hundred more FLT RowID errors, finally ending with:
**Attempting to locate any orphaned folders/messages
      **Performing Final HMP validation
**Attempting to check top-level objects for consistency
      **Updating folder hierarchy
      **Verifying message moves
My understanding of the Scanpst.exe process is that it also disables any addons which might cause crashing, but the issue is still being experienced. Running Scanpst.exe a second time (appending the previous log, although it seemed to actually prepend the
file) only returned a few lines from the top of the result above ending with "Attempting to validate BBT."
Fixes not attempted yet that I have found performing searches include running the Office Repair tool, or checking for KB2817631 (a Word update that is apparently having adverse affects on Outlook, not attempted yet because it seems to be related to the wwlib.dll
error, which is not happening here).
    Any thoughts out there? Thanks!

    Mavis,
Thanks for the reply. Running Outlook using /cleansharing and
/cleanroamedprefs did not have any effect when used individually or in combination with each other.
Running the Search Index Rebuild option also did not seem to do anything, as the pop-up message indicated that it may take a long time to finish, and yet seemed to finish instantaneously, not giving any indication that the indexing took place. The option
window immediately said "Indexing complete" for 23,755 items.
As to the Outlook Forum, they are the ones who directed me to this forum (you can see the thread on the Answers support page under Office - Office 2013 - Microsoft Office Outlook - Office on Windows 7, under the title "Outlook 2013 restarts when
opening Calendar Search result item" first posted on Dec 11, 2013), as Girish M felt that it might be due to Exchange, and not Outlook. (I have no reports of any of our other users on the same Exchange server having the problem with their Outlook, but
they also do not use it the way this user has been.)
I can repost the issue there, or continue the same thread, if you think the issue lies with them. Was the "Answers" site the improper place to post, perhaps? Should it go in a different thread on Technet instead?
    Thanks for your assistance!

    When visiting "Search Result Types"
under Site Collection Administration on a few of my site collections I get an error. This only happens on some of the site collections and I can't pin down why its occurring. I've tried disabling "SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure" and
deleting the Relationship list then turning the infrastructure feature back on with not luck.
I've attached URLs below, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Search Server 2010 Express: Open a PDF document from list of search results invokes adobe reader client application with error

    Hi community,
I set up search server 2010 express on a windows 2008 r2 server.
The Adobe PDF iFilter 9 64 bit is installed and search is correctly configured to find PDF-files.
When doing a search and clicking on a link of the result page, the PDF is not opened in the browser, instead the adobe reader XI client application (11.0.04) is invoked and an error raised like "could not open document .. check syntax of url..."
Right click on a link to open in new tab works fine. And PDF-Files from other arbitrary Internet Sites opens in browser correctly. Moreover when configure Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 as default application on the client it also open in Browser correctly.
I noticed googling the web there are several challenges when dealing with PDF-files in sharepoint. The following settings are made so far:
    1. In IE: Add-On to open PDF in Browser is enabled for all sites.
    2. Client Integration is enabled
    3. The OpenControl attribute in the DOCICON.xml is left empty OpenControl="" for the pdf entry.
    4. The Browser File Handling is set to "Permissive".
Please feel free to ask for more information if needed.
I appreciate any help on this. I don't know what to do further.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
Before responding to your points I want to give a little more context:
We have an intranet based on pure html and a little aspx containing many of those pdf- files. By clicking on the links in the intranet the files open correctly in browser handled by the adobe plugin. Now we set up this search server crawling the file system
accessed through a share to the root folder of the intranet. In the search server settings a host mapping rule is applied to replace the file://[share] with http://[intranet host+domain+port] to access files over http.
And now to answer your question. The resulting urls are the same, copying the link from intranet and copying the link from the search result (except some case issues).
The event viewer not seem to show any errors on this, though I'm not very familiar using it.
If any further information are from interest and any ideas come to your mind - please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Is it so difficult for Sun to sort search result and duke stars ?

In the years that I have been visiting these forums I have frequently (well every year at least) asked Sun to sort the search results by reverse date. In the last few months I have asked Sun to sort the new format of the results of "My Duke Stars". Is is so difficult to add a 'order by' clause to the SQL or am I missing something?

    DrClap wrote:
It would be nice if they could do that, and I asked them too several months ago. It would also be nice if they told you how many points you got for an answer (not how many points were originally attached to the thread) and the date and time you got them (not the original date and time of the thread). But those changes might take more than just an ORDER BY clause. (Or they might be implemented by just choosing the right columns from joined tables, who knows?)They seem to have all the functionality already there, it's just spread out across two pages when it should be all on one.
