Search results not pertinent to requested information

I used to use the search feature in the OTN website to get information about anything I needed to know about Oracle.
Now, when I search for the same things I get a ton of results which have nothing to do with what I am looking for. I specified "8.1.7 sqlplus ORA-00936: missing expression", but the results are documents for Oracle9i and J2EE documents.
Can you please go back to the much more useful search functionality that you had before. Or let me know how to get information for specific Oracle release other than the latest one.
Thanks
Swathi

Hi,
In SharePoint 2013, we could configure Result source to limit searched to certain content or to a subset of search results. This would be equal to a new search scope in SharePoint 2010.

Using sample below will limit search result in subsite:

• Search results not returning file names correctly

Have an onsite SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise that contains a number of documents in a document library all containing the word "south" in their title. When a search is run with the keyword "south" all 3 files are shown in the results but only one displays
the correct title. The other 2 display alternate text (in this case the company name). The links all 3 results are correct, however the title of results is incorrect for 2 out of the 3.
I have duplicated these results using Office 365 and another on site SharePoint 2010 server.
I have duplicated these results converting the documents to DOCX format under Word 2007 and Word 2010.
Obviously, this is an issue with the files, however any ideas where to start looking to uncover where the SharePoint Server is pulling the information from?
In the end I need all 3 results to display the current name of the files it finds, not simply some random text with the files from 2 out of 3 of the results.
Thanks

Pasted from here:
http://bpostutor.com/post/Hidden-SharePoint-2010-Feature-Changes-Document-Titles-in-Search-Results.aspx
Hidden SharePoint 2010 Feature Changes Document Titles in Search Results
SharePoint 2010 has a interesting feature which you may not know about. It's called Optimistic Title. It's part of the Office Search engine within SharePoint. What it does is determine a new, hopefully more relevant title for your documents
to be displayed in your search results based on document properties or the actual contents of the document (i.e. Text within the file). As you might expect this is closely tied to the Office document formats such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote,
and Visio. Your end users may report that the titles that they see for search results differ greatly from the file name or the actual title of the document. This is particularly evident with PowerPoint files where the name of the first slide
is often used. The behavior is not entirely predictable. Different results can be expected from Office 2007 and Office 2010 created files and even those created in earlier versions of Microsoft Office.
If you want to change this functionality you need to actually go and edit the registry on your Search role server(s) within your SharePoint farm, restart the osearch14 service and then do a full crawl. The key you want to modify is the EnableOptimisticTitleOverride.
The default setting is 1. Change it to 0 to disable the feature.

• Google web search results "not right" in Firefox

I'm having a problem using Google web search (both toolbar and straight from google.com) in Firefox. When I search for a keyword, lets say a business name, and expect it to bring up the business's website, the results include videos, some blogs, news, etc. Nothing from the business's main website are included in the search results. There are no problems with Google web search in IE or Chrome.
Here's a specific example: Search "Mozilla Firefox" in Google using Firefox there are 31,600,000 results with the top 10 being random websites about Firefox browsers. When I search "Mozilla Firefox" in Google using IE, there are only 130,000,000 (4 times more), with the top results being www.mozilla.org/, and other "main" Mozilla sites.
I've run all the recommended Malware/Antivirus fixes, reinstalled Firefox, updated the few add-ons/plug-ins I have, and made sure that Google search settings are the exact same for all browsers. Nothing is working.
Is anyone else having this issue or have a guess to what may be causing it? I've spent a few hours trying to fix it and at this point am ready to give up on Firefox, which is (was) my go to browser.

• File Share search results not opening in Chrome or Firefox

Today I crawled a portion of our file shares without incident. Everything is looking good. Except I cannot open any file share links in Chrome or Firefox. IE works flawlessly. Is this known behavior?

File system search result link does not open on Firefox or Chrome
Summary: The
file system connector shows URLs with "file://" protocol in search results. However, Firefox and Chrome don't open such links when clicked in result page.
Cause: Firefox and Chrome doesn't open "file://" links from pages that originated from outside the local machine.
This is a design decision made by those browsers to improve security.
Workaround: In order to enable local file access for Firefox and Chrome, please follow the steps as described below.
Please note with security risks caused by enabling such access.
Firefox:
Open Firefox.
Enter about:support to the address bar.
Click Open Directory for Profile
Directory.
Create or open user.js and add the following lines:
user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "file:///[[PUT
SERVER NAME HERE]]";);
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled",

• IProcurement - new VO for search results not working properly?

Greetings
There is a requirement for the project I´m working, where the search results on iProcurement must be filtered depending on some profiles setted for the user.
So, basically the search shouldn´t look into ICX_CAT_ITEM_PRICES, but on a custom view that works on that table, but filtering results.
Unfortunately, that´s not working. I extended the VO (which seems to be SearchResultsVO and ItemDetailParametersVO), so the queries are now pointing to the view. But once the search is performed, the results are not filtered. It´s the very same results as before.
Am I doing something wrong? There is some cache that works even after the Apache server is restarted? Please I could really use some help on the subject! Thanks!
Best Regards,
Thiago

Thiago,
Why don't you use a local Jdev setup for substitution process so that testing and debugging is easier.
Follow these steps for testing locally:
1. Add your VO to AM.
2. After extending VO, do the following,
Right-click on your project in the Navigator pane, and select Edit Business Components Project (or right-click on the project's .jpx and select Edit <project>).
a. Select the Substitutions section.
b. From the Available list, select the base object that you want to replace and press ok.
3. Normally, the BC4J runtime does not read a project's .jpx file. To override this default behavior in JDeveloper so you substitutions can be used, you must do the following to ensure that the classpath contains the .jpx file.
a. Right-click on your project and select Project Settings.
b. Then in Configurations | Development | Runner, add -Djbo.project=Name to the Java Options. Note that the Name value is the .jpx file name without the .jpx extension (for example, ExtendLabSolutions). Be sure to include a space between any existing options and the new option.

• SEARCH RESULTS NOT SHOWING THE NAME OF DOCUMENT

When I search for a document on the top level, the results in my case are relevant but they do not display the document name, meaning I have to go into the document to check if it is the one I'm looking for. For some reason the name of the file is displayed
in results as the first line of the document. I use a document template for letters meaning that the search results gives as list of documents that all have the same name displayed. This renders the search function almost useless as all the results are showing
the same name. Is there a way to change the results page to display the name of the document??

Hi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to show search results by document name instead of the Title.
Here are two links about how to show document name in search results, you can use as a reference:

• Search results not showing book

I am having great difficulty in getting a book to show up when searching in iTunes. (this is not a back-door way of promotion!)
Can you help me regarding metadata? This particular book (called Why They Win) has the words 'bridge', 'bidding', 'play' and several other keywords in the description. I thought the words in the description were used to help build search terms. However if these words either singly or in combination are used in the iTunes search box the book never shows up in the search results. What do I have to do to make it appear in search results without typing in the actual title or author which obviously most people will not know in advance?

It's not compatible with iPhones (nor iPod Touches) - from the book's description page in the store :
This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iPad, and with iTunes on your computer. Multi-touch books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iPad. Books with interactive features may work best on an iPad. iBooks on your Mac requires OS X 10.9 or later.
Requirements: To view this book, you must have an iPad with iBooks 3 or later and iOS 5.1 or later, or a Mac with iBooks 1.0 or later and OS X 10.9 or later.
Did you create the book with iBooks Author ?

• Robohelp 10 Multi Screen Desktop output Search Results not coming up in IE8

Hi,
1)
We are using Mutli Screen Desktop layout in Robohelp 10 project. While I understand that the output is not fully compatible with IE8, but in this case I am facing a show stopper issue that search results do not come up. They are coming fine in IE 9, 10 and other browsers. I also tried enabling the Active X/Java script settings in browser but it did not help. Can you please help?
2)
Also, when the Mutli Screen Desktop help page is called from external HTML with the below syntax

the help page opens up in a small window with TOC left pane collapsed. We can then maximize it ofcourse. But we require opening it in full window mode with TOC left pane shown by default to user.
Is there a solution to open it in max window size with left pane enabled?
Will appreciate your insight and help on above questions. thanks in advance.

For search results, first open the console by pressing F12. Then open the help and try searching. What errors warnings do you receive? Depending on the error, this may be fixable or not.
As for the CSH call, this is two problems:
1. For maximized view, create a window in RoboHelp and add the window call in call of the help. (see wvanweelden.eu/articles/context-sensitivity-multiscreen-html5 for details on the call.)
2. For showing the sidebar, you must edit the 'show in CSH' property in the Layout editor. Select the widget and open the properties. Then make sure to change the CSH property and generate your output anew. If you like, I can whip up some images of this procedure later this week. Let me know if you would like a step by step guide.

• Search result not appearing in search view

Hi,
I have successfully indexed a xml file in one collection. When i tried to search for the result set for that particular collection in search view,am getting "no results found" warning.I have tried it in QR server also but i am not
getting that xml file in results set.
Can anyone help, how to get the result set in search view?
Thanks
Kaappz

Hello Kaappz,
The common cause for this problem is that the document is not indexed or we are searching for content that is not in the content composite field.
Can you verify that the document is indexed by searching from the qrserver (port 15100) for and(meta.collection:<collectionname>, <term in doc>) and confirming that the document shows up in your results?
If so, if the document does show up in search results for the collection, I would recommend searching at the qrserver with the parameters: view=
sppreview, and view=
sppublished parameters, and determine if you see the document.
Let us know your findings.

• ITunes Store Search Results Not Showing Up

Unable to see the search results in the iTunes App Store.
I'm using iTunes v10.6.3. Whenever I type in my search criteria, all I get is a black box underneath my search bar (see photograph, top right). Using my cursor, all I get when going down inside the black box area is horizontal white bars with no text.
All I have installed to change the appearance of iTunes is the iTunes Button changer and the Crystal Black theme.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have had this problem occurring in the last couple of updates. I cannot remember exactly when it first happened.

FollowUp - Problem Solved.
Just in case anyone else was experiencing the same issues, I pinpointed it down to a corrupted iTunes preference file - com.apple.iTunes.plist.
I created a new user account, lauched iTunes and it worked fine, no black drop down window appearing, so I went back into my account and deleted this and relaunched iTunes and the drop down window showed all the search results again, not the black window as seen in my example image.
Hope this helps others!

• Podcast Search results not showing all episodes

I'm new to podcasting & our podcast isn't showing up properly.
When you look at our podcast in the search results, only one episode shows up.
There are three episodes total, but they show up only if you subscribe to the podcast.
Is there a way for the search results to show all of our episodes?
Our iTunes link is http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-hills-fellowship/id448179201
Our RSS feed is http://sermon.net/rss/client/thehillsfellowship
Please help if you can!
Also, they were uploaded last week...so it's been enough time for them to be processed & show up.

I'm afraid I can't give you a comforting answer.
The feed at the URL you quote contains the tag
<itunes:new-feed-url>http://sermon.net/rss/thehillsfellowship/main</itunes:new-feed-url>
so the feed iTunes is now using is
http://sermon.net/rss/thehillsfellowship/main
and that is the one you should be updating - though in fact they are almost identical and it's possible that the method you are using updates them both.
The feed at http://sermon.net/rss/thehillsfellowship/main is valid and I can't see anything wrong with it. As you say, it can be subscribed to and shows all three episodes: but the Store page (and thus the search results) show only the first episode.
The Store should have updated by now: it's not unknown for the Store to get stuck and fail to update for several weeks: usually it eventually updates and I have no idea why it does this. It doesn't happen often, but I have seen the occasional complaint.
However there is another issue which may be relevant: although the date of the latest episode is July 17th, the feed was updated today:

This raises the possibility that there was something wrong with the feed before (hence the failure to update) but that whatever you've done today cleared it. That would indeed result in the three episodes showing on subscribing but not in the Store - it would take a couple of days or so to catch up.
If that is the case the Store should update in a day or two. If not, then it might update at some future date or it might not: I can't explain that.
I should at least give it two or three days and see what happens. Check the Store page using the link you gave, not the Search results as these often lag behind.
If you don't get a result after several days you could try iTunes Support, but I have to tell you that they don't have a good record for helpfulness and the chances are you won't get anywhere with them. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to either 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options, or you may see a link to email them.

Hi Martin,
As I understand, the issue you encountered is the LastModifiedTime displayed incorrect in search result.
If you go to CA > Search service application > Search schema, in Managed Properties, type LastModifiedTime, then you will get LastModifiedTime property. Click it and you will find the property is mapped to five crawled properties.
I’d recommend you create a new managed property and only map it to ows_modified property. Then test the issue again.
