Searched text hardly visible in Safari

When I want to look for a string of text on a website, using command-f, I have often problems to see the text Safari actually finds. Firefox has a brilliant solution for this, with the text showing up in a seperate task bar at the bottom of the screen, and text on the page lighting up in a very clear color. Is there a similar solution for Safari?

Why is my text not visible in text boxes?

I have a set of text boxes that I have used throughout my book as little sidebars providing tips to the reader. These text boxes lay out beautifully within iBook Author. When I preview on my iPad, the text within these boxes becomes invisible. The text is still there — if I double tap on the iPad to use the search function, the text can be selected and shows up in the search box, but is still invisible.
I am hoping this is some kind of user error on my part that can be easilly corrected. It appears to affect all two dozen tips I have inserted into the doccument. However, when I create a new text box it seems to function fine, even when following all the same steps to lay it out. You will see this in the green box in I stuck in example for the purposes of obtaining your help. (Please help! )
All the affected text boxes were cut and pasted from the original, so perhaps I set something wrong? It's odd that the preview does not match the iPad layout.

It may also be noteworthy that as the preview loads into the iPad, the text is visible, then vanishes as soon as the upload is complete. The small page previews on the ipad when 'zoomed out' to the overview also show the text, though when you go to the page it is still blank. Here is what the small page view looks like:

Did you confirm the text/box is 'to the front'...on the top of everything in that same location? Should work if so.

Yes. Font, style and color (black, white, grey, green purple) do not appear to have any effect.
Are the boxes anchored graphics...
No, they are free floating but the problem persists if I anchor them.
and is the text in a box on top of the graphic?
No, the text is integrated. The box was made by creating a text box.
Even with different answers, this problem should not occur — if the text were hidden behind something, it should show that way within the program and the small preview, no?

Google Search text prediction in URL Bar

Hello,
Is it possible to enable Google Search text prediction during typing words in URL Bar?
Now I need to hit ENTER in URL Bar if I want to search some word or use very useless Search Bar :-(
Any other browser like Chrome, Safari, Opera has one bar for anything (URL and SEARCH) with text prediction as well.

You probably are getting Google search suggestions in the 3 search bars (on the navigation toolbar, built-in home page, and built-in new tab page). If not, you can turn on search suggestions using one of these 3 methods:
* right-click the Search Bar (the one on the main navigation toolbar) > Show Suggestions
* click the magnifying glass icon on the Search Bar > Change Search Settings, then check the box for Provide search suggestions
* click the magnifying glass icon for the search box on the built-in home page or new tab page > Manage Search Engines, then check the box for Provide search suggestions
Those do not appear in the address bar yet. For now, you might want to check out this extension:

Search Text Box

I have a deliverable to display text in the search text box of the Top Bar view. When the user clicks the box to enter a search term, the initial string should be cleared allowing the user to type their term and perform a successful search. Here is the code I've tried but it doesn't work. The first line correctly sets the text box value to "Search Entire Portal". The second line is to clear the value when the text box is onFocus but this never happens, the initial string is still visible. Can anyone help?

There are two problems here, one on your side and one on ours. The first problem is that in your SetOnFocus call, you use "textBox.SetValue('');" as the JavaScript code to execute. At runtime, the JavaScript doesn't know what "textBox" or "SetValue" are - these are Plumtree objects that are used to create the HTML source. What you need to use are JavaScript/DHTML/DOM methods. Instead of referring to "textBox", you can identify the HTML on the page by using it's id attribute. And instead of using "SetValue", you can use the standard "value" method. In this case, the id was created for you when the textBox was created:
HTMLInput textBox = new HTMLInput(HTMLInputTypes.TEXT, factory.GetInputBoxName(), "");
Given the id of the HTMLElement, you could do the following:
textBox.SetValue("Search Entire Portal"); textBox.SetOnFocus(factory.GetInputBoxName() + ".value='';");
I mentioned that there were two problems, however. The second problem is that our implementation of SetOnFocus has a bug in which it is not being written out to HTML. There are some options around this. If SetOnClick is enough, this works:
textBox.SetValue("Search Entire Portal"); textBox.SetOnClick(factory.GetInputBoxName() + ".value='';");
If the onclick event doesn't suit your needs, there is one way around this, though it's not very elegent. You can get the DisplayString from the textBox, modify this string by adding the onfocus="inputXXX.value='';" attribute, and then creating an HTMLGenericElement from this new string. You would then add this HTMLGenericElement to your cell instead of the textBox element.

When I start Firefox 4.0 all that comes up is a black page. No text is visible on the page or in the menus.

I downloade the update to Firefox 4.0. Now when I open the browser only a black screen comes up. No text is visible on the pager or the menus. I cannot type any text within the page. When a move the cursor around the black page little magnifying glasses show up.

If the problem returns, you might want to search this forum for threads with titles like ''Google redirect virus'', in case the culprit is installed outside of Firefox.

TS1398 my sons ipad 1 is not loading videos when he goes on to youtube through his search engine (hes not on safari as he is on a parental restriction search engine) but has been able to for the last 12 months until the other day.

My son has an ipad 1 and goes on to you tube through his search engine (which is not safari as i have put a parental restriction search engine on there for him) and up until a few days ago was working fine. now when ever he goes into youtube the video selections come up but when he presses a video to watch it doesn't load (comes up with the loading icon). However i wanted to see if this was a youtube problem so I unrestricted his youtube app and tried to get into youtube that way and it worked and the videos loaded. Does anybody know why it wouldn't work through his search engine now after working through it for so long?
Any help would be great as i dont mind him going on youtube as long as innappropriate content is filtered (which is what his search engine did).

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

This worked...found on a prior discussion:
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page)...

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you just downloaded and ran.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Restart your computer.
Re-download Itunes (latest version form Itunes website) and install. It worked!

HT203167 I have just installed itunes on my new comp. and searched for mp3 on the hard drive but it has not found all of them. There are 2000+ missing, is there any way to re-search the hard drive?

If you've just moved the drive between systems then see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows just in case that reveals the missing files. Apply to a single album folder first as a test. Otherwise, if you've not done too much with the drive since things went missing, an undelete tool might recover the lost media. FreeRecover looks promising... Select the drive, use the options to get file paths and check file integrity, then, presumably, you can restore anything that has been deleted that looks recoverable. Backup to another drive when you're done.

This is not likely to be possible in the general case, depending on what you mean by "searching text"
For instance, a Word doc might have the text "Hello, world!" when viewed in Word, but that doesn't mean that the sequence of characters 'H', 'e', 'l', 'l', 'o', etc., exists in the file. There might be one letter, then some binary data indicating that the next letter is some other font or color, then one more letter, then more binary data, etc.
Conversely, there could be textual metadata in a "binary" file that a person reading the file in the appropriate viewer would never see. Unless you know the details of the format you're reading, you won't be able to distinguish that from "real text".
And what do you mean "strings" is not efficient? Have you tried it? Does it do what you want? Did you measure and determine that it does not meet your well-defined performance requirements? It's unlikely you'll be able to write code that does the same thing as "strings" but more "efficiently."
The first step is to put more realistic boundaries on your requirements and define them more precisely. "Extract text from any binary file," is not a valid, meaningful, or reasonable requirement.
EDIT: I may have misunderstood your requirements. I thought you wanted to "extract all text" from binary files. If that's not what you meant, and you're looking more to replicate grep, then follow Joachim's advice.

How to select and search text in this document?

Find caret position of search text in jEditorPane

Hi All,
I am looking for a way to find the Caret position in a jeditor pane for the search text that i supply. The Jeditor pain is setup for text/html and when i find the index of my search text "ANCHOR_d" in the jeditor pane is 27000 something but the caret position is 7495 how do you find the caret position of the search text ??
Any help is appriciated.
I am also looking into getting abnchoring to work in the jeditorpane html text but as of yet i have been unsuccessful.

E.g, for MS Word you could use Apache Jakarta POI - HWPF: http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/hwpf/index.html
Then, you use Apache Lucene to index and search.

How to change the width of textbox in Search Texts iview

Hi, Experts,
     I creat a search texts iview with stardard configuration to search the data in the repository.
The problem is that the width of textbox is too short. And the user will input more than 40 characters in the textbox.
   In this way, the users can't see all the information unless he put the mouse pointer in the textbox and drag it.
   Is there any stardard configuration in MDM or MDM Portal to increase the width of textbox?

I tried this but seems like there is no property available to change this setting. As these iViews are standard shipped, we cannot modify the design or code.
