Second iPod
I have a nano and use itunes on my computer, my son just got a nano, can I simply hook his nano up to my itunes and put music on it? Is it that simple? No problem using multiple ipods on one itunes account?
OK, so we have been able to sync more than one ipod to my itunes account and are moving music over with no problem. I have two more questions. The method I use is to just drag and drop songs from the library onto the ipod, will syncing work better by checking songs and syncing or will that cause mixed up libraries, etc. from using so many ipods on the same library? Also, my son just plugged his ipod into my itunes, he has songs on his ipod that I don't have on my library, is there any way to take songs off his ipod and place them into my library so I can put them onto my ipod?
I have one more question, I guess I have never understood the difference between sync and drag and drop. I believe if I sync then it puts any checked song onto the ipod, while drag and drop can be done song by song, right?

Purchased music on one iPod Touch gets attached to second iPod Touch.
I have one account and 6 devices. iCloud has been disabled... and I do not want it enabled. I particularly hate it!
The issue is:
We have two iPod Touches that are G1 and G2, two iPod Touches that are Gen 5 with the latest updates to iOS, and we also have two iPod Nanos. There is no issues with the old iPod Touches nor the iPod Nanos.
On my iTunes I have separate folders for each iPod, named accordingly. In those folders are the music that those iPods are to be loaded with. The issue comes with the 5th Generation iPod Touches where it will sync all of the music in our appropriate folders, however, there is also music that was purchased on one iPod Touch 5th Gen that automatically gets attached to the second iPod Touch 5th Gen. No matter what I try it remains on both iPods and it is not wanted.
I took the iPod that doesn't want the music (my husband's) and restored factory settings on it and then when I set it up again... the unwanted music is still there. I did this after syncing the device 2 or 3 times with just syncing the selected folders. It took me awhile to figure out that all of the music that is deemed "unwanted" is purchases that I made on my iPod Touch Gen 5 and automatically showed up on my husband's.
What do I have to do to get rid of the music on his iPod? Set up his own ID? If so... that only affects purchases correct? Meaning, he can still sync with our iTunes folders on our home computer but if he were to purchase a song on his iPod, he would have to submit credit card info etc, otherwise the same thing would happen and both iPods would have the purchased music.
I may have answered my own question, but I would like it confirmed before I set up new ID's and delete anymore items from his iPod.

I'm just wondering though, where I've already put the device back to factory a couple of times and then tried syncing just his list and those songs still popped up. If I delete everything and re-sync, wouldn't it do it again? I'll try it tonight and let you know.
PS: Chris CA: Originally I did have the clouds, but I got rid of them. It didn't change anything though. Purchased music still there. Funny thing... I can purchase off my old iPod and it does not automatically go to mine nor my husband's new iPods, but if I purchase on the new iPods, it'll go to both new ones but not to the old ones. I'm assuming this has something to do with the iOS.
I'll be back tomorrow to let you guys know how I made out with the deleting thing. Thank you so much for all of your help and suggestions. At least the iPods work. He's just cranky because he doesn't like some of my music choices so he doesn't want them on his iPod. LOL -
My second iPod is a 5th generation and when I try to buy something it says it needs make sure I am who I say I am and it makes me answer security questions. But the problem is I don't know the answers to them. I did not choose them. And if I can't find an answer I can't buy anything!!! Help!!!!

Sorry to ask, how do I do it please. I have my first ipod with the same account on both computers that have different libraries one of which I am building now. Do I have to de-authorise my original ipod on the computer that I want to use my new ipod on with the new library and then register my new ipod. I would rather do this than have 2 libraries on one itunes, but keep the same account details.

I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use you should just have to connect it to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly from the larger iPods but it can still be used in the same library along with any others. So I had an iPod touch and everything with it is fine. I just bought a second one for my daughter...exactly the same as my iPod. This second one was bought used, but was reset completely before I plugged it into my computer. My problem is... my iTunes does not recognize the second touch as a device! I can't get it to sync, so I can't get any music or anything onto the device. How can I have two iPod touches on my computer? Is there something special that I have to do to get my computer to recognize this second touch as a different device?? PLEASE HELP!!!

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have an iPod Classic with rock and pop tracks on which I generally play in shuffle mode. I have now bought a second iPod Classic to store and play classical music as I don't want to shuffle rock with classical. What will happen when I attach the new iPod to my pc? Will it register as a new device with an iTunes file of its own, or will it duplicate what I already have on the original iPod?

The songs on my Ipod Classic wont play at all although you can feel and hear the machinery working hard. The tracks are not playng at all but you can see the Ipod rewinding them all and returning to the album. And this happens to the second IPOD I just got!
First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

Not sure as to how that happened, because there is no limit to how many devices you can sync to one computer. To sync to the 2nd iPod, simply hook it up, go through the registration and setup process, and then sync away.
There are several ways of managing multiple iPods with one computer. I think your best option would be to check out this Apple support document. Hope it helps.

The first ipod i setup works fine. When i plug in the second ipod, the itunes does not recognize it. I have created a second account to my XP and installed itunes on it, but i am having the same trouble. the only difference between the 2 is the second ipod is "Product red" - 4G. The first is the 2G.
