    I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
    When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • Security settings and problems

    Hi there,
    I need my new airport express set at WEP (because one computer in the house is old and cannot connect with a WPA). However, when I manually set my airport to WEP, I cannot connect other computers to the network. I tried no security--the same problem. When I tried the default WPA2, both my newer Macs connected just fine. However, the old PC cannot. Unfortunately, that old PC really does have to connect.
    Any experience or advice? My old airport, which is three years old, was able to connect via WEP just fine.
    Perhaps the new airports are simply not able to configure to a WEP security. Would that mean I'd have to return the airport and get a non-Mac router? <shudder>
    Thank you.

    Airport Express should support WEP. The fact that your computers can't access the wireless network when you have no security tells me that it isn't a WEP problem. I'm assuming you have configured your airport for settings you want to keep. If you back up this configuration, then reset the Airport, you should be able to access it through its default network. Assuming that you know how do do this (since you configured it in the first place) can your macs now see the Airport? If so, you have a configuration problem - or perhaps a corrupt configuration.
    WEP configuration guidelines that might help can be found here:

    HowI can contact Account Security Advisor know that you contacted iTunes Store Support to let them know that I contacted iTunes Store Support by email ?

    The case number that you were provided, which is linked to either your device or your contact information (like your email address), is how Apple Advisors keep track of your contact with their departments.  When they bring up either the case number or your contact information, all of that is supposed to be linked together.

  • IOS-XE version numbers (specifically as they relate to Security Advisories)

    I am working through all the recent security advisories and I am having a little trouble discerning between the IOS-XE version numbers and the other numbers on the page. For example in the following: https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCur27466 it states that "3.6.xE Not Vulnerable" but if you read further down the page to the details section it then states
    Known Affected Releases: (4)
    15.2(2)E
    15.4(1)S
    15.4(2)S
    I am under the impression that 3.6.xE and 15.2(2)E are the same software and the 15.2(2)E is just a mapping to relate it to the classic IOS version numbering.
    Is the bug information incorrect or are those two truly two separate pieces of software and one is vulnerable while the other is not. Please keep in mind the bug above is just and example. I am running into this with quite a few other bugs that are related to IOS-XE.

    Hi Davek,
    In your platform options file, for the frameworks you need to link to weakly, you may try using -weak_framework linker option. eg.
    <option>-weak_framework Twitter</option>
    Using -framework will always link to the framework strongly, despite the setting used while compiling the native library in XCode.
    In general, in this file, you can use the linker options in the way they are provided to ld command.
    Hope this helps.

  • ArchLinux security advisories

    Hey all!
    I've noticed that there is not much related to the security aspect of ArchLinux as of yet... security upgrades notices or whatnot. I've been involved with Arch now for a few months, and I really enjoy the distribution and would like to contribute in some way.
    I do work as a security professional, and would like to take a look at:
    1) Integrating SELinux into the kernel.
      I'm not sure how much interest there is into integrating SELinux into the default kernel and making sure the policy matches up with Arch.
    2) Trying to get an active security maintance list up and going.
    I've noticed for the most part that major advisories are taken care of right away, without much notice to the users. However, other packages fall through the cracks (Take today's Firefox update to 1.5.0.2... updated by the end of the day, but Thunderbird, also vulnerable to the same buffer overflows and explioits due to a common codebase was not updated) I'm not sure if everyone is assumed to be running a system sync on a daily or weekly basis. How is the security notification being handled as of yet?
    I do not want to come off as critical at all! Thus far I've truly enjoyed using this distribution, and would like to find a way that I can give back to the community, especially since I am not a programmer.
    Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? All welcome!
    -James

    It is true that there is not much done for security. However, alone the fact that Arch is bleeding edge, every vulnerable program will be fixed as soon as it is updated (assuming that the authors fix the bug).

    There is one thing you can do. You can create packages that provide SELinux functionality and publish them. As long as they go the Arch way of simplicity, things might have a good chance to be integrated into the distribution.
    There is the kernel, but I believe (without knowing much about SELinux) that there are other modifications necessary. If you keep the number of modifications necessary low and don't break non-SELinux Arch, I think integration into Arch will be likely.
    You say you are a security professional, so with your knowledge and experience in that area, you can start this and maybe others will help. You will see quickly how many people are interested.
    2) Trying to get an active security maintance list up and going.
    The problem is, you have to find someone who is in charge of such a list. If you volunteer, that will not be a big problem. I don't think the devs will spend even more of their time on this, but if you can establish a security team that will surely be appreciated.

    The mozilla team has not released an updated version of Thunderbird yet, but it is likely they will do so soon - and Arch will be updated.

    Criticism is important to ensure the ongoing improvement of a project such as Arch. And I think everyone here appreciates constructive criticism.

  • IWeb 08 Podcast/RSS problems

    Yup, iWeb has shot my podcast...
    I will post discoveries here as I learn them. Will be grateful for any help, of course!!!
    Still coming to grips with new file names/locations. First thing is iWeb seems to be dealing with spaces differently now. Previously it did the old %20 thing in my podcast - Popology Podcast read Popology%20Podcast. Now, it's replaced that with an underscore - Popology_Podcast. However, it doesn't seem to have occured to the code monkeys to tell whatever generates the rss.xml file that! A manual edit of the rss.xml file doesn't help either.
    I'm using feedburner, so I've changed it there, and it's starting to kick into gear, though it isn't seeing the podcast images...
    More to come as I discover it.
    Again - please - any advice most appreciated - and if I've gotten anything wrong so far, please put me straight! I'm just a Joe-Bloggs, not a super-web-guy...

    My podcast's address, as seen in iTunes music store is:
    http://rss.mac.com/popology/iWeb/Popology/Popology%20Podcast/rss.xml
    But according to iWeb's new way of dealing with spaces, this should now have an underscore instead of a %20.
    http://rss.mac.com/popology/iWeb/Popology/Popology_Podcast/rss.xml
    I've tried avoiding the problem by entering my feedburner address into the rss.xml file...
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://feeds.feedburner.com/popology</itunes:new-feed-url>
    But that didn't work. I've pinged my podcast, and when I search for it in the music store, delete and resubscribe, it still doesn't pick up that it should go to the feedburner feed.
    QUESTION: Am I editing the wrong file - rss.xml - in my podcast directory? This seems to be a new location - till I upgraded, the RSS files were in a seperate folder (up a few levels on my idisk) altogether, but there's nothing there now...?
    I'm considering trying to remove the space in the original iWeb design on my comp and reuploading... 128k upstream... hmm - that will take a while...

  • Client Security Solution password problem

    I have just had my computer reformatted to the factory settings. I wanted to avoid having to enter my password each time I logged in but, as has happened before, I forgot what the process was. Eventually I made my password blank and did something else (?) which meant that I wasn't asked for a password by Windows. Unfortunately Client Security Solutions now asks me to validate my identity ("Your Windows password was changed recently. Please enter your Windows password to synchronise with Client security Solution".)
    I have just given myself a new Windows password and will see how it goes with Client Security Solution once I reboot. My basic aim is to bypass the Windows password screen.

    Since my last message I have reset my Windows password. I no longer get the message from Client Security Solution, instead Windows tells me that I have entered the wrong password. All is OK if I then enter the new password.
    Perhaps this query should be placed on a Windows forum? I have set Windows to bypass the password entry screen, so If it weren' for this problem I would never have to enter a password.

  • Security word entry problem

    Hi, so when I am web browsing with my iPad2 and I have to enter a security word for a website to know I am indeed a human, the website always comes back to me saying i input the information incorrectly. I have checked I am entering the information correctly, I am aware sometimes they are case sensitive and that the ipad will default to the first letter being a capital and have changed that. I still get the problem every time. I have checked the websites on my laptop and they worked first time on both so I know the websites are working ok.
    Is there something I am missing?
    Cheers,
    Greg

    OK. Try the following 'standard' fixes for Safari and see if they have any impact :
    Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Web Service Issue - Security or Coding problem? *HELP*

    Hello all - I am stuck on a particular problem, which I've posted under flash player but also will post here in the event that it's my issue, and not a security/player issue.
    I have built a video player in Flash/ AS3 which communicates with WSDL web services using the as3webservice code package from wellconsidered. The player makes a call at startup to check a user's progress in a series of videos, and updates that progress by talking to the web service as the videos are played back.
    Tested locally, it works flawlessly. As soon as the player is uploaded, however, the web service' hangs' - so no fault is produced, but it seems to just never connect. This is presumably because the SWF is on one server, the web service on another. I've tried uploading it to two different servers, both different than the web service server. I'm trying to avoid moving the web service to the same server that hosts the SWF.
    I've tried adding a crossdomain.xml file to the root and subdirectories of the server that hosts the web service:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM
    "http://www.adobe.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
    <cross-domain-policy>
        <site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="master-only"/>
        <allow-access-from domain="*"/>
        <allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*" headers="*"/>
    </cross-domain-policy>
    I've also tried playing with the SWF publishing options (Local Access only vs. Network only options), but no solution seems to help. I know it's not just the web service i"m using, because public web services (such as the ones found on webservicex.net) don't connect either.
    I'm at the end of my rope, and am wondering if this is a Flash Player security issue, or something I need to reconsider from my side (such as using a different web services package).I am wondering if a crossdomain.xml does not help, what other possible areas do I need to look at? If there is an article someone could point me to, or a simliar situation they've been in, i'm iopen to all suggestions.
    Thanks so much...fg

    You can generally check what the player is doing from the browser by using firefox with the firebug plugin. For example you can see the crossdomain permission requests or other urlrequests and responses. This is a useful way to debug as it sometimes shows issues or at the very least means you can eliminate one potential cause of the issue if there are no obvious problems there.
    If you don't have firefox/firebug, then (if you can) post a url with the swf in it that exhibits the error and I or someone else can check it for you and report back.

  • RSS Problem--Articles won't display

    I'm having some trouble with my Safari RSS and could use some help. Safari is letting me know when new content is posted to the RSS feed (i.e. the numbers are showing up), but when I switch to the RSS page, it won't display the article summaries (i.e. there's no text). I have tried resetting Safari and restoring the RSS bookmarks, but the problem remains. Can anyone out there help me? Please? Thanks!
