Segmentation Fault while installing on Solaris 9

Hi,
I was able to install Sun One Studio on Solaris 8 as root and was able to run it.
However I am trying to re-install it on Solaris 9 as a user with super user previlages.
I keep getting segmentation Fault when i run s1s5se-sol-sparc-en.bin
Any pointers?
thanks
Sri

Hi,
From the develpers.sun.com KB:
Installation
S1S5 : Segmentation Fault when running Solaris S1S5 Installer
Whenever i try to run the installer on a Solaris 9 machine as root I get Segmentation fault as follows-
root[(k)sh]@score1# ./s1s5se-sol-sparc-en.bin Segmentation Fault root[(k)sh]@score1#
Reason for Problem :-
The cause of this Segementation Fault problem is due to a directory read permissions problem. The installer could not be invoked because the user did not have read permission to a directory above the one containing the installer.

    4.- ASM disk are founded, listed and selected.
    5.- Requirement validator only warning pdksh package, but Redhat 6 has ksh package (and it's installed). So, i ignored that warning and continue.
    6.- Install process start fine.

    This is weird, because i has installed a RAC 11.2.0.3 databases and standalone databases (all with grid) over Vmware and RedHat 6.4 and works fine. I have even compared the rpm packages between a functionally installation with this server and matched all !!!.
    I think that i am making a mistake, but i can't see it. I wan't reinstall or clone a funcionally virtual machine, because i want to learn with my mistake.
    I has googled too much and i searched into metalink but i can't find something similar.
    I apreciate your help, suggestions, anything.

    I had similar issue while installing 32bit version by mistake. Just to checkyou have x86-64 in the filenames of oracle software distribution

  • RunInstaller line 132: Segmentation fault $CMDIR/install/.oui formCluster

    Hi There,
    I'm trying to install Grid infrastructure on a VM and I'm encountering the error below.
    ./runInstaller line 132: 3564 Segmentation fault $CMDIR/install/.oui $* -formCluster
    Machine's details:
    Vmware Infrastructure
    Oracle Linux server release 6.2 - 32 bit

    and "free -m" shows "3523"(free) as swap.
    I did go through the Document ID 1328616.1 and it did not help. Some posts suggested that it could be an issue with the swap space, I also tried adding more swap space and it did not help either. Please advise.
    Thanks

  • Brasero segmentation fault while selecting Plugins from menu

    Hello,
    Brasero is seg faulting for me when I select Plugins from the File menu. I am running a standard Gnome DE 3.12.2 with startx to login. When I launch brasero from terminal, it tells me:
    [bryan@nas ~]$ brasero
    (brasero:5300): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    (brasero:5300): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    and then once I click Plugins it says additionally:
    (brasero:5300): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private: assertion 'instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed
    Segmentation fault
    Brasero version is 3.11.3
    Any ideas what causes this problem?
    Pacman -Syu is done before posting this message...

  • "Segmentation fault" while running code, how can I increase the stack size?

    Hi, I only have very limited knowledge about c+ codes and compiling them and I would be very happy if someone can assist me.
    My problem: I have two c++ codes, one with an array size of ~100,000, the other with ~1,500,000. When I compile them using terminal g++ -o commands, the smaller one works with no problem (it takes less than a minute to run), the larger one gives "Segmentation fault". I think it is a memory allocation problem and I am not an expert on dynamic memory allocation which I want to avoid for now.
    My question: When I compile the large code in Windows Visual Basic, I can go to settings to increase the stack and heap sizes and it does work. Is there a similar thing in OS X Leopard? I found some commands to do that in the terminal window but I wasn't able to resolve my problem.
    Thanks for all your help.

    Thanks for the link, I actually looked for a developer discussion group but was not able to find it through the main discussion page. I reposted to my question there.

  • 10g Universal Installer kernel errors while installing on Solaris 5.10

    Hi all,
    I have been trying to install Oracle 10g on a Solaris 5.10 machine (32-bit) as per the official Oracle Documentation for a couple of days now. It seems that the Universal Installer fails it's pre-installation steps and throws up error at the following kernel parameters:
    Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmsl=256; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
    I have followed the Oracle Documentation which says to change the kernel parameters using the resource control facility. For this I already have a project "oracle" which the user "oracle" has been assigned to:
    $ id -ap oracle
    uid=100(oracle) gid=100(oinstall) groups=100(oinstall),101(dba) projid=100(oracle)
    Following are the snapshots from the prctl command on the current state of the kernel paramters:
    For Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    $ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
    NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged 254MB - deny -
    system 16.0EB max deny -
    The Oracle recommended value is 4GB - I expect Universal Installer check to fail for this, so I change the parameter using the resource control facility by logging in as root in a new terminal and keeping one oracle session active.
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 4gb -r -i project oracle
    I can see that the parameter has been set correctly when I do:
    $ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
    NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged 4.00GB - deny -
    system 16.0EB max deny -
    For Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    $ prctl -n project.max-sem-ids -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
    NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-sem-ids
    privileged 128 - deny -
    system 16.8M max deny -
    The Oracle recommended value is 100 - I do not expect Universal Installer check to fail at this parameter
    For Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    $ prctl -n project.max-shm-ids -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
    NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-ids
    privileged 128 - deny -
    system 16.8M max deny -
    The Oracle recommended value is 100 - I do not expect Universal Installer check to fail at this parameter
    Also when I try to issue the command:
    $ prctl -n project.max-sem-nsems -i project oracle
    I get:
    prctl: failed to get resource control for project.max-sem-nsems: Invalid argument
    Oracle recommends I should set a value of 256.
    After setting up all this I still get the following errors from Universal Installer:
    Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmsl=256; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
    Now when I modify the kernel settings by editing the /etc/system file without even a reboot I'm can see all my Universal Installer Kernel checks as passed.
    Not sure if I'm missing out some crucial step while setting up the kernel parameter using the resource control facility?
    ~ Somjit

    It is bug in OUI.
    OUI is looking at /etc/system to check the kernel parameter settings, but this file is not used (by default) in Solaris 10
    It should check the kernel parameter settings using the prctl.
    Check metalink note 363436.1
    workaround is to
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or as You already did, change /etc/system as well.

    Hi ,
    I installed it on Debian 2.2R4 and it works fine so far.
    I only had to tweak the name for a library.
    Probably the SEG Fault comes from the "performance" pack.
    Did you try to run without it?

  • Disk Access Failed while Installing Solaris Container.

    I have setup 5 guest domains together with the Control Domain.
    $ ldm list
    Name State Flags Cons VCPU Memory Util Uptime
    primary active -t-cv SP 4 4G 0.8% 2d 2h 15m
    secondary active -t--v 5000 4 2G 0.5% 3h 5m
    dmz active -t--- 5001 8 2G 0.0% 46m
    sunray inactive -----
    application inactive -----
    identity active -t--- 5002 4 4G 0.1% 1h 2m
    In each of the guest domain, I plan to install a number of Solaris Containers to run different applications. While installing one Solaris container (zoneadm z <zone name> install) in dmz domain, I start the installation/configuration (either zoneadm z <zone name> install or zlogin C <zone name>) of another Solaris container in identity domain. Everything starts OK until half way I get an error message as follow:
    Jun 13 18:33:16 dmz vdc: NOTICE: [1] disk access failed.
    The installation of the Solaris Container in dmz halts as soon as I see the message above. Nothing will work except a force stop in the Control Domain using ldm stop f dmz and restart.
    What happen to the Solaris Container installation/configuration in identity domain? It either continues the process without error or fails with the same error message shortly after. For example,
    Jun 13 18:33:24 identity vdc: NOTICE: [1] disk access failed.
    The vdisks for each guest domain are setup by following the steps on section Using ZFS Over a Virtual Disk in LDoms 1.0 Administration Guide. Each guest domain is booted from a disk image in the Control Domain and has two 9GB data vdisks (mapped to two physical 9GB disks on A5200 disk array) running ZFS striping. Each guest domain vdisks are serviced by a separate vdisk server.
    Any idea?

    I am not sure if multiple virtual disk servers are officially supported under current LDoms release.
    I had tried using only one virtual disk server. The same problem exhibited. I thought may be the vds was not able to keep up with the virtual disk I/O. That's why I setup multiple vds.

  • Apache - Weblogic plug-in - Segmentation fault. Please Help me!

    Hi all,
    Im trying to set up Apache weblogic plug-in, and im having problems with
    that.
    Im running Solaris 9 with Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) and Weblogic 7 with sp2.

    I copied mod_wl_ssl.so from
    /bea/weblogic700/server/lib/solaris/mod_wl_ssl.so to /usr/apache/libexec
    Added entries in httpd.conf as

    I checked the /var/apache/logs/error_log file. Im getting the error as
    child pid 805 exit signal Segmentation Fault (11)
    Am i missing anything here?
    Thank you

    You may want to check the certifications for Solaris 9 and the Apache plug-in at
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/certifications/certifications/sun_solaris9.html#40366.
    It looks like you will have to upgrade to at least Apache 2.0.39. We had to do
    this on Solaris 8 as well.

    I suggest opening up a support case.

    Bea website says that Weblogic 7 sp2 is certified for Soalris 9.
    That's

    i
    installed Solaris 9.
    I tested the same on a Linux Machine (Redhat Linux 7.1 on IA). It
    works

    Looks like it should work.
    Let's simplify your test:
    <Location /test>
    WebLogicHost 127.0.0.1
    WebLogicPort 7001
    Debug ALL
    DebugConfigInfo ON
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    </Location>
    Try with just that.
    Another thing is that I am unsure as to whether we have tested
    with
    Solaris
    9. This is SPARC right? Also, can you outline the steps you took
    when
    building apache? Did you use GCC?

    I've been running the 64 bit flavour of Archlinux flawlessy on my asus l5d (1st generation amd athlon 64 3000+, 768 mb ram) until the recent kernel version bump (2.6.29.4 => 2.6.30).
    From there on my system is experiencing segmentation fault while loading powernow-k8. Here you have the relevant dmesg extract

    The system continues booting surprisingly well, but everything gets hotter and hotter (I used to have it running at 800 mhz to reduce fan activity, as I don't really need full speed).
    I only wrote to know if anyone has got into similar troubles - I had a look over recent kernel ChangeLog and I've seen some activity about powernow-k8, but not really something
    I might have thought would blow everything up. I'd like also to be pointed at custom patches someone may have come up with  - I've no problem messing with kernel recompilation: if this doesn't get fixed in a new package, I'm thinking about reverting to 2.6.29.4 - or maybe some kernel parameters to cover the thing (at the moment and up until 2.6.29, II need "noapic nolapic").
    Thank you in advance. Let me know if you need additional info.

    I can confirm that powernow_k8 is broken somehow. I just got this when trying to change the governour. But I cannot reproduce it.

    Thanks Thiru.
    It was a trivial issue. The cfgenv.sh file was not executed properly and that was causing all the issues. Thanks for your reply. Issue has been resolved on this server.
    But on another server I am getting a different error while trying to configure the gateway server. Please if anybody has faced this issue before kindly provide the solution.

  • Error while installing a patch for Mainwin 5.0.2 on Solaris 2.8

    Hi,
    I am relatively new in this field, so i apologise for any slip-ups.
    We use a Solaris 2.8-SPARC server. I was given an external drive which contained the porting software Visual Mainwin 5.0.2 and was told to install it from the drive. On checking it, i found that the entire folder structure of the software was damaged, i.e. every file of the software was changed to uppercase. UNIX being highly case-sensitive, i manually changed each and every file present in the software directory to lowercase and then ran it.
    The software ran fine, it got installed and the license server was also up. the licenses were also nicely distributed. everything was fine until i was asked to install the patch 'vmw502_sunos5_HF1.sh'. While installing i got the following output :
    # sh vmw502_sunos5_HF*
    Extracting installation package to "/tmp/mwspselfextr27624".
    Please stand by ... Done.

    Can anybody help?? Any kind of help will really be appreciated.

    Hope you already tried: ls -l /export/home/tools/solaris/env/mainsoft/../mwver/mwversion.ini If ls returns the file name, try running the script under truss to find some clues.
