Select file one at a time

I just created my first automator plugin to sort and rename video files from a JVC Everio camera. Once I have the .MOD files, I am using MPEG Streamclip from www.squared5.com to convert those files into a .DV file for iDVD or iMovie. The problem is that MPEG Streamclip can only do one file at a time. Rather then dragging one file in at a time, I would like to create a plugin for this. Is there an action in automator that will select one file at a time in a folder?

Are you able to select up to 10 files at one time through the "select files" browser window? The instructions at https://www.acrobat.com/createpdf/en/merge-combine-pdf-files-online.html seem to indicate that you are able to select up to 10 items and then convert and combine.

At this point I am only able to select files 1 at a time, which means steps 3 and 4 repeat up to 10 times if you are combining the maximum 10 files at once. I have tried using shift select and ctrl select to no avail.

I think I found my answer at a different set of instuctions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/using-createpdf.html. This set of instructions clearly indicates that files will be selected 1 at a time.
Click Combine Files To PDF.
Click Select Files.
Select one of the files that you want to combine.
Click Open.
Click Add Files and select additional files to combine. Click Open."
If anyone has any ideas on how to more quickly combine files, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to select ALL photos in iCloud to download them to PC? Having to select them one at a time is ridiculous.

iCloud storage is almost full and I am trying to clear out all the pictures by putting them onto my PC. I have not been able to just select all of them at once. Then I have to go back and select each one again to delete. This is super tedious and time consuming. There has to be an easier way! Please help.

Select the first top one, press and hold shift key and then select the last one.
Just like selecting files on explorer.

Reading from file one at a time

I am trying to read from an Excel file one cell at a time, and am having some trouble. I have included my VI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your first problem is that you are using the Read file function. This doesn't work with Excel. Native Excel files have their own special format and you have to use ActiveX to read them. If you have the report generation toolkit, you can use that or look at the examples on the Excel Board. You can also save the Excel file as comma or tab separated text and then the Read From Spreadsheet or Read File will work.
Second, if the file is static, you would be much better off to read the file all at once to an array and then just index out the values inside the while loop. It looks like you are getting temperature values from a file. Is the Excel file being generated at the same time as your program? If it is, what is generating the file? Maybe that program can be controlled by LabVIEW and you can get the temp values directly from it. If it's a file that is constantly being updated, then the reading is going to be somewhat comlpicated if you care at all about getting the most recent value.

Couldn't Select File to Restore in Time Machine

Yesterday after running some experiments on an unrelated issue, I realized that a file on the Desktop I had been using in the experiment was gone. (I'd evidently moved it to the test folders instead of copying it with option-drag.) As that Mac was being backed up with Time Machine to a Time Capsule, I launched Time Machine, waited for the "Star Wars" display for the Desktop to appear, and navigated to a backup several hours before. I could see the file I wanted to restore, but even though I waited a number of minutes, but the Time Machine Finder window never "went live" (as opposed to grayed-out). As a result, I couldn't select the file I wanted to restore. Can anyone explain what would cause this? This all took place within the same OS X user, if that could have been an issue.
I finally gave up, used the Finder to open the mounted Time Machine "sparsebundle", opened a backup folder from several hours before, navigated to the user's Desktop, and used the Finder to copy the file back to the Desktop.

Yeah, I see that too on occasion, especially over a network.
I've asked Apple (several times) to put up a progress bar or wheel, or some indication that propagating the display is in process, but of course to no avail (along with ANY suggestions to add a Help button or any other explanation there, and Lion will be even worse for laptop users).
It does seem that TM keeps the status of the last display cached somewhere; when you select something different from the last time, you see the old timeline for a moment or two, then it starts re-propagating.
Other than the things in #E4, all I can suggest is patience; if it really seems frozen, cancel out and try again.

Restoring selected files from a networked Time Machine backup

My wife's laptop logic board failed 2 days ago. It is backed up over our home network to a separate partition on a second hard drive in my MacPro. I'm trying to recover a few specific files from the day the machine failed.
When I try to mount her sparsebundle image, I get a message that the image could not be mounted "Reason -- not recognized".
Disk Utility claims the sparsebundle appears to be okay.
Using "Browse Other Time Machine Disks..." only shows the partition on the backup disk associated with my machine's backups.
Suggestions?

I have found a way around the issue. My wife's user account on my machine is set up as Sharing Only (just so her Time Machine can write files to the backup drive). So I went to my daughter's machine, turned off her TM, disconnected daughter's machine from mine, and then reconnected from daughter's machine as my wife's username. Then I could mount my wife's sparsebundle on my daughter's machine.

When i try to convert files it is making me save the file before i merge the files one at a time.

Please help. I have windows 7 but use vista on my laptop and remote into my desktop when working from home. I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on my computer. When I try to merge files and convert into a single PDF file it give me a save as box for each file to be saved separately. It was working on my computer about 2 weeks ago and then it just stop working. I don't know if it has anything to do with the vista laptop or not. How can this be fixed?

Delete multiple duplicates at once without selecting one at a time...

I know that you can view duplicates and then select songs one at a time to delete. Because show duplicates shows both the duplicate file and the original you need to select one duplicate and skip one for the original file for each duplicate song. The problem is I have 18000 songs so going through the duplicates one at a time like this will take way too long. How can I delete all of these duplicates without clicking on all of them one at a time?

You can select multiple items using shift to select a range and control to add or remove items from it.
Regarding duplciates, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

You can't on the iPad itself, unfortunately. Your best bet is to use your computer to mass delete the emails, You can also change how far back your various email accounts sync messages to your iPad. That will significantly reduce the amount of daily emails on your device.

Uploading multiple items one at a time - file view resets

In my work, I need to upload many files, one at a time, using an interface through the browser.
When I go to upload multiple files, one at a time, using 10.6.2, the Finder takes me back one or two levels down from the file location between uploads. In 10.4, the Finder always took me back to the folder last accessed.
Is there a Preference, Shareware like TinkerTool, or a Terminal Command I can use so that I always go back to the folder last accessed?

In my original post, I did say I was uploading via a browser. So I don't know if this clarifies for you or not.
Using Firefox or Safari.
Uploading photos, one at a time, to a website that uses the browser (rather than FTP).
In OS 10.4.11, after each photo, I would upload a second one and the dialog box would open up to the same folder as the previous upload, greatly simplifying the process.
In OS 10.6.3, after each photo, I would go to upload a second photo and the dialog box would open one level down, or sometimes seemingly randomly, two levels down. This requires me to navigate back to the folder with the photos which greatly increases the amount of time between each upload.
It would be helpful if I could show photos to explain.
I am not certain that this really clarifies my original posting. Does this make sense or do you need more info?

Suddenly I cannot select just one file in a folder, all of them get selected at the same time. Happens in Lightroom also when scrolling through the filmstrip. what did I do?

My Mac Pro is acting wonky all of a sudden. This all began after someone in my family spilled water on the keyboard and tried to clean it up while still turned on. I bought a new keyboard but now I cannot select just one file in a folder, all get selected. Same thing happens in Lightroom 3 when editing in the filmstrip mode, I cannot just select one photo, they all get selected. Plus, after awhile I cannot type in small letters either, just capitals. If I restart it is ok for about 15 minutes then the problems start. I did a reinstall of the OS but it is still happening. I zapped the pram, fixed permissions, etc but no luck. I am on a 2x2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon machine with 900 gigs unused. Any suggestions?

Try also resetting smc.
Also check your keyboard preferences. And just to possibly reset some keyboard related caches and prefs you might go through the "Change Keyboard Type..." (Keyboard tab in the Keyboard preferences).

If you hold the Ctl (Command) key while clicking the files you want, you can select multiple individual files. If there are numerous files one after the other or a bulk batch you want to select, if you click the first file to select, then hold down the Shift key and click the last file you want to select, everything between the first file selected and the last file selected will be highlighted.
