"Select Same..." jusst as in Illustrator in InDesign?

Hello All-
Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any Indesign plug ins or scripts that work similar to Illustrators "Select Same..." feature of finding objects, type & strokes of the same color, value as what youhave already selected.
I work in pre-press and we have clients who spec their type in odd colors (0% black, Registration Color, or in an RGB color which isnt even in their color pallet)
Specificaly in text, it would be great to have a tool that shows what text is colored and where. What objects or anything may be in RGB, because often the color isnt in their pallet. We have these booby traps all the time and it is hard to manually catch them all.
Any direction to such a plug-in or script or advice would be appreciated!

This works excellent for me. I have made a catalog and the prices were in red color, and at a certain stage I wanted a catalog without prices, so I just selected the character color of the prices ( this was used in my catalog only for the prices!) and turned it into none/transparent color! The prices just disappear! That is it, in 3 minutes changed 1800 characters on 100 page! I love InDesign!

Select same wouldn't work in ID as you would only be able to select stuff on a single spread.
But have you looked at the selection options in the Find/Change by Object attributes?
That feature is actually more robust than the Illustrator "Select Same" commands.
You can find objects with a certain stroke color and a specific stroke weight.
You can search for objects by corner options, transparency attributes, text wrap options, and so on.
It is so much more powerful than Illustrator!
And you can save complicated queries for future work.
Oh, even BETTER than Illustrator.
You can also APPLY formatting using that dialog box. Much more powerful than Illustrator.

In Illustrator, group the objects that you want to punch through, and use the transparency pallet.

My UI preferences are set to identical settings in Illustrator and InDesign, why don't they look the same?

My UI preferences are set to identical settings in Illustrator and InDesign ("scale to lower supported scale factor") and AI looks perfect, ID is too big. Why don't they look the same if the settings are the same? Driving me CRAZY. I have my windows scaling factor at 124% and it needs to stay enlarged, otherwise nothing else on my system will be readable. The inconsistency of the workspaces is so annoying.

Copy & Paste from Illustrator to InDesign CS4

Hi,
I am aware that there are issues when copying/pasting from Illustrator to InDesign, in particular:

I have the following problems:
1- I copy and paste text from Illustrator to InDesign on the same platform and some (not all) of the text is converted to outline in InDesign. The same font is available to both applications. Why this behaviour?
2- I copy and paste objects containing text from Illustrator to InDesign and some of the objects appear to have moved respective positions when pasted into InDesign. Is this to be expected?
Are there solutions to these problems? Note that if I expand everything in Illustrator prior to copying and pasting into InDesign, none of these issues occur, but everything is obviously in outline form, with the limitations it entails.
My clipboard settings are as indicated in the link above, but I have tried other settings with no more luck.
(Important: Before pasting a graphic, make sure that Illustrator is configured to copy as AICB (see Illustrator Help). In InDesign, make sure that Prefer PDF When Pasting isn’t selected in the Clipboard Handling preferences. If these options aren’t set properly, the Illustrator graphic cannot be edited in InDesign.)
It is not practical for me to create an Illustrator file for each of the Illustrator graphics and import those files via Place into InDesign. I must use Copy/Paste.

You can copy/paste from Illy to ID by selecting the text with the type tool in Illy and then pasting it into ID. You will not be able to maintain the formatting. If you want to maintain the appearance the text will be converted to outlines.
If you need to get anything other than very simple objects from Illy to ID then you should save as AI and use the file > place command to place those objects as linked graphics into ID.
Your closing statement is irrelevant. Whether you like it or not, this is the way it is.

CS3 - Illustrator and InDesign quits when trying to print

Hi.
I have posted this on the Illustrator forum as well.
I have just bought a new iMac i7 running OSX 10.7.2. I have reinstalled my version of CS3 and I can open all elements - Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
The problem I am having is that Illustrator and InDesign quit when I try to print. It happens when I use 'command P' and when I go through the file menu. Photoshop doesn't quit when printing.
I can make PDFs of the files and I can print those (although sometimes the PDF won't print through my RIP software).
OS is updated to the latest version. All printer software and RIP is the latest version. InDesign also quit a couple of thimes when I was just selecting a line of type. i
It did it a few times when selecting the same line. I restarted the Mac and all seems OK with that now but I still can't print.
Can anyone shed any light onto this? I tried Adobe and they don't support CS3 any more and their Technical Department suggetsed I try this forum.
I don't want the expense of upgrading my CS3 at the moment.

Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS5 crash when trying to place images. Happens around 5+ times a day.

This Mac is quite new and was originally a migration (using Migration Assistant) from an older Mac.
Illustrator and InDesign in CS5 were both crashing often and most of the time it's when placing an image (in either application) – it doesn't crash each time I try to place an image, but 90% of the crashes are when placing an image.
We tried lots of things, like cleaning out the fonts, clearing font caches etc. After several months of that, we decided to wipe the Mac clean and start from scratch. It has been reformatted with a clean install of the OS and only minimal additional software added. Although quite a few fonts have been reinstalled, they all validate in Font Book.
One other thing of note is that the Adobe Updater fails to complete an update and so we have had to update each application manually from the Adobe website.
I would be so grateful someone could help shed some light on what is going on. Here's an EtreCheck report. Can also provide crash reports from the Console if useful.

My CC, Illustrator and InDesign don't open

My CC app, Illustrator and Indesign don't open.
They just don't respond to anything. And the CC app doesn't appear on my dock. Adobe Manager doesn't work either. the only program that works is premiere.
NO problem appers on screen, they just don't respond.
What should I do?What can I do?Please help.

Adobe Illustrator and InDesign Error code 16 - Help!!!!

I installed Adobe Illustrator and InDesign on Windows 8.1. They worked great until I closed the programs and tried to open them up again. I now get the error code 16. I re-installed several times now and each time I close either one of the programs and reopen, I get the same error code 16. I've done a clean uninstall and re-install and I've followed the procedures about ensuring that file permissions were correct. No luck.

Illustrator and Indesign Shutting down when trying to print?

Wondering why my illustrator and indesign is shutting down when I try to print from those programs. I don't even get to a printing menu. Just got a new mac....Mac OSX 10.7.3 and using the same Creative Suite 4 I used on old machine and never had this problem....is it the newer operating system? What can I do?

Not saying it cant be scripted but what about just via the Illustrator "Select" menu:
Examples:
Select > Same > Fill & Stoke
Select > Same > Fill Color
Select > Same > Stroke Color

Wireframing: Illustrator or InDesign?

I am beginning to do web page/UX wireframing at a much more serious level these days. I have a long history with Illustrator and respect its power.
However..when it comes to handling type and objects consistently, I find that InDesign is the winner.
in InDesign, you can change the size of a box with an outline and corner radius without also scaling the corner radius; it takes more steps to both scale a box without altering a corner radius in AI.
For type-handling, InDesign is orders of magnitude better than AI.
However..I am not a seasoned Wireframing pro, so I'm very interested in hearing those who are experienced wireframers weigh in on this question...
Which tool do you prefer to use for wireframing, and why?

Smart objects from Illustrator and Indesign dimensions problem

I have been trying to find an answer to this problem for 6 months now and surprised no one else has tried to find any answers.
When we import something from illustrator or indesign as a smart object, for some reason the objects width and height will not keep their dimensions in proportion.
When the asset is first imported as a smart object it says the width and height are exactly 100%. However after that if you try to change the dimensions they will be out of proportion, usually the width will be 100% but the height will be out by about 1% to begin with. When you scale up, the percentages fall further and further apart. See image attached.
This has become a real problem for our workflow as the creative director insists we must correct every layer which has this issue by typing in the sizes manually, but then this doesnt always fix the problem either depending on which version of photoshop you are using.
Why does this happen, and how can we fix it for good?

I do have Photoshop and have notice that it try to match resolutions and maintain sizes but it may also scale placed object etc. There are some some Photoshop preferences setting that can effect some operations. Photoshop also has support for non square pixels.
Make some test if illustrator and indesign have setting for pixel aspect ratio and DPI resolution. Make sure all documents have the same pixel aspect ratio and same DPI resolution and that the vector object to be imported are not larger then the Photoshop document their being imported to.
Thanks for the suggestions, but none of these would be the answer. Illustrator is Vector so it does not use DPI / Pixel aspect ratios etc.
