Self-assigned or Manually Assigned IP Doesn't Work.

I've got a network of four Macs in my house, using a wireless router from Verizon. This network has been working fine for at least a year. For the last week, though, my MBP can't access the internet or see other computers. My router recognizes the MBP and the MBP shows full bars for the wireless signal, but other than that, nada. This is true whether it's a self-assigned IP or I manually create the IP (using the IP address that the router recognizes as the MBP).
The MBP hasn't left the house. The entire network set up has not changed.
I have tried:
- Manually setting the IP - worked briefly last night, but now doesn't work again.
- Resetting nvram - didn't work at all
- Power cycling computers and router in all possible permutations
- I may have tried other things that I'm not thinking of now
Any fixes or info on why this kind of thing happens would be greatly appreciated.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Manually Managain music doesn't work.

    After plugging my iPod nano in for the first time and using the sync features, i wasn't really satisifed with the level of control it gave me--either it let me import whole genres or artists. after looking over the user manual, i tried switiching the ipod over to the manual management mode. for a few minutes the ipod allowed me to drag and drop music into the ipod's music folder from my library. I added all the music i wanted and ejected/disconnected the iPod.
    Now, when I reconnect my ipod to itunes, i can't add music to the folder--i drag music in my library over the ipod icon, but nothing happens (the green "+" indicator never shows up). It is also of note that i can delete any of the songs on my ipod manually, and the lists of music, movies, TV shows and podcasts aren't "grayed out" like they are when the ipod is in auto-sync mode. it just won't let me add more music.
    My brother also got the same nano model and also uses the manual management feature, but has no issue with using it (he's on a white macbook running OSX 10.5.8--the same OS i'm using, although i'm on a powermac G5).
    What can I do to restore my ability to drag-and-drop files to my iPod? has anyone else had this problem?
    Looking at user manuals and troubleshooting guides has yeilded no answer. my problem seems, as of this point, to be unique.

    i drag music in my library *over the ipod icon,* but nothing happens (the green "+" indicator never shows up).
    Instead of dragging your music over the iPod icon, drag it to the word "Music" which should show under the iPod icon in iTunes side panel.
    Looking at user manuals and troubleshooting guides has yeilded no answer. my problem seems, as of this point, to be unique.

  • RELINKING IMAGES MANUALLY IN INDESIGN DOESN'T WORK

    Hello,
    Please help,
    I am opening an Indesign CS3 EPS image file in Indesign CS4 which is made by combining 2 Clipping path images. The problem is: I am not ablt to use the images manually. however, automatic relink works fine. Although I don't know where that option is. I just want to use manual relink.
    any suggestions??
    thanks
    Rachael

    I've seen cases where this "Mini Save"/ "Automatic Recovery" did not work at all.
    Rare cases, but:
    Always when the InDesign file is opened on a different computer and you are working on a network. And someone pulls the plug from that other computer (shutting it down, ignoring the messages that another machine is hooked)!
    SO: I would never rely or bet on the otherwise fabulous feature "Mini Save"/ "Automatic Recovery".
    There is a startup script around in the web by Martin Fischer somewhere on the site hilfdirselbst.ch, that saves a copy of the actual file in a special folder every time you do a "save" or "cmd + s" adding a continous number to the auto saved file name.

  • Help - Manual Podcast transfer doesn't work

    New owner of a Macbook Pro and iPod Nano, so sorry if this question is easy.
    I set Podcast transfer to Manual, but when I drag podcasts onto the iPod, sometimes, nothing happens. Other times, I can transfer 1 or 2 podcasts, but that is it. I am getting close to being full (within 200-300MB), but should still have room for more short podcasts. I wonder if I haven't set up the Manual Transfer settings correctly.
    I have the Summary tab setting to Manual, and the Podcast tab settings are unchecked from Synch. Is there anything else necessary? Any idea why the Podcasts won't transfer?
    Thanks,

  • Explicit assignment to the ref parameter in member function doesn't work

    I've created new member procedure in a simple DB schema (Profesor-Asignatura-Departamento). In this procedure I'd like to change explicitly the value of departamento parameter which stores references to departamento objects.
    So what I'm doing is:
    select ref(d) into ref_departamento from departamento d where d.codigo=n_departamento; -- retrieve reference to the departament which has a code=n_departamento
    then I'd just like to assign the result to objects attribute like this:
    self.departamento:=ref_departamento;
    and here it doesn't work and I'm wondering why; I haven't found explaination in web. No error is displayed, simply it doesn't change the previous value of the parameter.
    Maybe there are some restrictions. I've managed to find another solution here with UPDATE statement but I'm curious why the simple assignment doesn't work.
    Thanks in advance,
    Wojtek

    OK, I'm not spanish however I like my code to be kept that way because I'm still learning :)
    Most important classess are these (then tables are created for them):
    create or replace type ot_departamento as object
    codigo number,
    nombre varchar2(32),
    telefono vt_telefono, -- vector type of size 3
    profesores tt_departamento_profesores, -- table type of references to ot_profesor objects
    asignaturas tt_departamento_asignaturas -- table type of references to ot_asignatura objects
    create or replace type ot_profesor as object
    codigo number,
    nombre varchar2(32),
    direccion ot_direccion, --object type with street, city, etc.
    telefono vt_telefono,
    departamento ref ot_departamento, -- reference to ot_departamento
    docencia tt_profesor_docencia, -- table type of objects which attributes are (reference to ot_asignatura, credits for a subject)
    create or replace type ot_asignatura as object
    codigo number,
    nombre varchar2(32),
    departamento ref ot_departamento, -- reference to ot_departamento
    docencia tt_asignatura_docencia, -- table type of objects which attributes are (reference to ot_profesor, credits for a subject)
    member procedure cambio_departamento(n_departamento number) *<- That's the procedure, where I had this issue* its task is to change current department,it takes as an argument code of new department which needs to be assigned
    So now the code for my procedure is:
    create or replace
    type body ot_asignatura as
    member procedure cambio_departamento(n_departamento number) is
    asig_count number:=self.docencia.count;
    no_cambio exception;
    docencias_adscritas exception;
    ref_departamento ref ot_departamento;
    begin
    --first check if a department of given code (n_departamento) exists at all, if not then raise NO_DATA_FOUND exception
    select ref(d) into ref_departamento from departamento d where d.codigo=n_departamento;
    --check if the given department is not the same as asignatura has already assigned, if so then raise NO_CAMBIO (NO_CHANGE) exception
    if ref_departamento=self.departamento then
    raise no_cambio;
    end if;
    --if there are any docencias (subject is declared with professor who's teaching and credits) already assigned to current department then department can't be changed
    if asig_count>0 then
    raise docencias_adscritas;
    end if;
    --first delete our assignatura from list of assignaturas already assigned to current department in the corresponding ot_department
    delete from the (select d.asignaturas from departamento d where ref(d)=self.departamento) a
    where a.COLUMN_VALUE.codigo=self.codigo;
    --now assing (update) to current assignatura reference to the new department
    --self.departamento:=ref_departamento; <- THIS IS NOT WORKING HERE*, so the workaround is given below by using explicit UPDATE on the whole table
    update asignatura a set a.departamento=(select ref(d) from departamento d where d.codigo=n_departamento)
    where a.codigo=self.codigo;
    --what's left is to add current assignatura to the list of assignatures for new ot_departamento
    insert into the (select d.asignaturas from departamento d where d.codigo=n_departamento)
    select ref(a) from asignatura a where a.codigo=self.codigo;
    exception
    when no_data_found then
    raise_application_error(-20003,'No hay este departamaneto');
    when no_cambio then
    raise_application_error(-20002,'Asignatura ya adscrita a este departamento');
    when docencias_adscritas then
    raise_application_error(-20001,'Asignatura tiene docencias adscritas !!!');
    end cambio_departamento;
    end;
    I hope it's quite clear here. I'm still curious, why it's not working.
    Thanks,

  • Apply in tunes doesn't work in sync to iPad

    After finally having my new iPad recognised in iTunes devices,
    After selecting the music I wish to sync etc.  the APPLY button does not offer the choice to select (sync)
    I have re installed, tried another time, backed up to iCloud, tried back up to windows,
    Tried sync wifi ( which also doesn't work , and also tried ticking to do manually which also doesn't work,
    I'm sure it's a simple fix but I'm out of ideas.... Please help!

    Did you try highlighting the music in your library and dragging/dropping on the recognized itunes device on the side?

  • SMTP doesn't work for my Runbox account

    All my gmail accounts work fine, but the new account (a Runbox one) I add doesn't. When I send a message from that account I get the "Connecting to server" box and nothing happens. When I click on it I get a message stating the sending mail failed and I should check my Mail account settings. I have checked the SMTP settings several times, removed and re-added the account more than once, even configured them manually once, still doesn't work.
    I can receive messages.
    I use Thunderbird 31.3.0 and Windows 7.
    Please help!

    Hi guys, thanks a lot for your help. My conclusion is that Runbox doesn't work well enough so I opened an account with Neomailbox. Zero problems so far.

  • Aperture 3.0.3 - MobileMe doesn't work any more

    F*!
    I have installed new Aperture update and since then I'm only having problems. First I had to repair my library. Fortunately worked.
    But the sync of my MobileMe galleries doesn't work any more. I try to start the sync manually but it doesn't work. I double click on the sync icon but nothing happens. New galleries do not sync, too.
    Aperture is really annoying. Every some weeks more trouble. Slow, not syncing, what will be next?
    Did you have the problems with MobileMe and Aperture? Any idea what to do?
    Thanks ...

    Actually lost some photos in my galleries after the update. I held down the Option and Command keys while starting APerture and repaired the library permissions and then resynced the galleries. One gallery was stubborn, I had to remove a photo from this gallery and then drag it back into the gallery. This allowed everything to update.

  • My MacBook is frozen and Command/Option/Escape doesn't work. What do you suggest I do? Any suggestions?

    My MacBoook is frozen and Command/Option?escapedoesn't work. I tried turning it off manually, but that doesn't work either.  What doyou suggest?

    Any external BT keybaord or mouse that can be turned off and break a cycle in that interface?  Any external USB device or external monitor that can break a locked-loop on those dvices?
    Holding the power button for 10 seconds (maybe more) should hard-stop all (even background) processes.  Can leave the system unbottable if stopped at wrong point, so is a last resort.

  • DHCP & self-assigned IP problem-Airport doesn't work

    I'm not really a technical type, but I'm pretty quick to pick things up and several weeks of trying to deal with this issue has made me pretty knowledgeable about things related to it specifically.
    Background:
    I have a month-old Macbook Pro that runs Snow Leopard and is up to date on all its software stuff. On our home network we have another pretty new Macbook Pro running 10.5.9 and a fairly old Macbook also running 10.5.9.
    We have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. Our network uses a 40-bit Hex WEP password.
    Problem(s):
    When I try to connect to our wireless network, Network preferences tells me that it cannot connect because of a self-assigned IP address. Sure enough, the IP address DHCP comes up with is of the 64.XX.XX.XX variety. Google's revealed that this is a common problem for all recent versions of OSX, back to at least Tiger.
    The "subnet mask" it comes up with is 255.255.0.0, which is different from the settings on our other (working) computers, which is 255.255.255.0. I'm not sure what this means, or whether it's significant. Renewing the DHCP lease either comes up with the same 64.XX.XX.XX type or, sometimes, it comes up with no IP settings at all. The most frustrating thing about this is that if I chose "DHCP with manual address" and type in any in our set that I've confirmed isn't in use and hit "apply", as soon as I go back to the panel it has reverted to the 64.XX.XX.XX type.
    I've also tried manually entering the router/subnet mask/IP data, as well as the DNS numbers, and that leads to the Network Settings connectivity dot thing being green, but the internet still doesn't work. In those cases, diagnostics claims that everything is fine up to and including the ISP, but that it's unable to connect to the server and internet.
    Of note: some people with a similar problem have talked about networks with this problem working intermittently, but mine seems to be consistently broken.
    Initially I was able to avoid fixing the problem by using our neighbors' unsecured wireless network, which is sort of awful, I know, but at least it kept me from having to deal with this for a while. Today it started to do the same thing to that network. Both networks continue to work on our Macbook and other Macbook Pro, which is why I don't think that it's a router problem.
    I've been able to connect to our other computers through computer-to-computer networks—going through our main shared network (and thus the wireless router) doesn't seem to work—which I think shows that the Airport card/hardware itself is intact (?). I did try connecting to the internet through the "internet sharing" option on our Macbook, but that had the exact same problems.
    Another thing that may or may not be relevant, but is equally infuriating:
    I've also noticed that my Macbook Pro has more trouble staying connected to a network than our Macbook—even when it was working, it disconnected/timed out extremely often, which is something our Macbook never does, even from the same location. When I try to connect to a network it spends a very long time displaying the "searching for network" animation in the menu bar icon, sometimes after the Network Preferences pane believes that it's connected, and sometimes even after I hit the button to turn Airport off. It's also started refusing to connect to any networks at all, on occasion, which is especially evident in the process of the diagnostics box thingy, because there it actually tells me it's unable to connect rather than just playing the searching animation for ages.
    Here are some other things that I've tried:
    setting up a new 'location'
    restarting the computer
    deleting the airport preferences file
    restarting in safe mode
    restarting open firmware
    confirming that the firewall allows all incoming thingies
    resetting the router
    making sure the keychain password allows all applications to access it
    connecting to the internet through a computer-to-computer network from another machine
    Because the situation has deteriorated over time, I'd also like to know whether people think that it's two problems (the type of router then later the airport hardware(?)/software(?) itself, perhaps) or just one. Since I've tried basically everything besides switching out our router, I'm kind of inclined to blame it on that, especially because one of the more plausible explanations for this problem that I've heard is a time-out error due to Airport expecting a faster response than it's able to get from older routers; however, the fact that other networks haven't been working means that it's not likely to be just the router. If it's just one problem, which is the simpler explanation, then I guess there's something properly wrong with my computer's software, in which case I guess I'll take it to the Apple Store. :/
    I'm in love with my computer otherwise, and I'll admit that I spent a good twenty minutes sobbing out of frustration over this. Any help would be immensely appreciated.

    HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try Changing the Airport Channel
    Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
    Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary
    Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
    Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.

  • My MacBook isn't connecting to the Internet. When I try to connect, it shows the signal strength in the top right corner as if it was connected, but the Internet doesn't work. When I go to my network preferences, it says the ip is self-assigned.

    My MacBook won't connect to the Internet, but it's connected to my router. When I go to network preferences, it says that it has a self assigned ip address, and can't connect to the Internet. How can I fix this? Please help!

    First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
    Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
    After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
    If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • Self assigned IP Address, wireless doesn't work

    After upgrading to Leopard I keep getting "AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet." when I try to connect to the wireless network. Thus, wifi does not work at all. I've researched it best I can and it seems to be a problem with the router assigning an IP address to the mac, but why didn't this happen in Tiger? However if I play around with it for awhile it will randomly start working, but the same method doesn't fix it everytime. It also works fine in bootcamp. If I physically plug into the router, it works fine. This problem didn't exist in Tiger at all.

    Follow-up:
    On the two laptops, I finally managed to get on line by switching to a different wireless access point, on a different modem. I surmise that the communication between the Macbook DHCP client and the modem/router's DHCP server is less than 100% effective. Looking at the modem/router, I could see that all of the Macs had active connections. But, instead of showing the names of the Macs, the page showed a star (*) for each Mac. I had to compare Mac addresses to verify the connections. The MAC address, of course, is hard-wired into the computer's network interface. It appears that either the DHCP client didn't know what question to ask when it broadcast for an IP address, or it couldn't interpret the answer. Except in the case of the iMac, which worked perfectly.
    I upgraded the MacPro last, since it is my primary machine. Same story--connection with self-assigned address, which is useless. However, this time, having nothing left to lose, I restarted the modem/router, which presumably dumped any inactive connections and issued new DHCP leases.
    However, I do have a few words for the Apple GENIUSES! The Leopard network preferences page puts me in mind of a maintenance free battery. A few of the older folks will remember when you bought a car battery that had to be filled with distilled water to reconstitute the electrolyte. Then, periodically, you check the level of the liquid in the battery, and added distilled water when required. Adding water was required on occasion because some of the water would boil off under certain conditions. Then, we got the maintenance free battery, which is virtually identical to the older battery design, except that you don't have to perform the maintenance of replenishing the water. It turns out, however, that maintenance free batteries do vent on occasion, and should have water added. But, you can't add water because the battery is sealed. So, the difference between conventional and maintenance free is not that the maintenance free battery doesn't need maintenance, it is that you can't perform the maintenance without voiding the warranty.
    The Leopard network preference page won't let you set the parameters that could restore a connection. If the DHCP client doesn't work automatically, you're stuck.

  • In human task, dynamically assign group doesn't work

    Oracle SOA 11.1.1.4
    My bpel process invokes a human task.
    On the human task Assignment tab, I assigned 3 users (by name), 1 group (by expression).
    The group is configured in LDAP
    When I tested the bpel process, I entered the group and other data required.
    From the worklist app, I see the task listed. It is assigned to the 3 users, but not the dynamically passed-in group.
    From the Audit trail, I saw all data I entered (include the group). Everything seems correct, but I still can’t make the dynamically-pass-group work.
    If I assign the group by name in human task, it works fine.
    The problem is: dynamically assign group doesn't work.
    Please kindly advice.

    Yes, it is possible assign a group as participant of some human task, passing the group name as parameter.
    I have tested just now.
    It works pretty well in SOA 11.1.1.4 (BPEL or BPM).
    Make sure add a data parameter in your human task definition and pass a valid group name to it.
    At the Assignment tab, in the participants' list, add a group, data type by expression, and set the value to the right xpath expression to the corresponding parameter.
    For example: /task:task/task:payload/task:group
    If it is not working look the SOA log files, probably you'll find some information about the error there. Maybe there is some problem with your jazn.com configuration.
    You can also test if there is something wrong related to the group name, trying to transfer some task to the same group by the worklist.
