SEM BCS in SAP ERP 6.0

Hi Experts
have you worked with ERP 6.0 and SEM BCS into the ERP?
in ERP 6.0 all SEM components like BCS, BPS, CPM are in the same system as "add on" or I dont Know, is posible to work with this componentes from ERP?
I think is necessary install SEM BW and plug ins, I will apreciate your comments about this..
Thanks in advance

I realize that this is a BCS SEM forum and I do believe that OLAP is a better technology than OLTP for consolidation functionality, but there are "equivalent" BCS transactions in ECC as well. UCMON is "roughly" CX20. The consolidation menu is CX00(N) and customization is CX01(N). Both have been visible directly after entering  "/n" in OK Code input field.
For more go to menu CX000 (nonCX transactions may not work due to reasons mentined earlier in the thread):

  • Differences between SEM BCS and SAP BPC

    Hello All,
Can you please let me know the differences between SEM BCS and SAP BPC. What I know is SEM BCS is an SAP product for Financial Consolidation (Legal and Management). SAP BPC is the new product taken over from Outlooksoft. It also features the consolidationa and planning functionalities. Can you please suggest which is a better product.
    Regards
    Vikram

There is nothing like better or worse product.
BCS has some strong features like consolidation monitor, investment consolidation and for most consolidation functions, configuration is very easy. In BPC, you may have to write scripts.
BCS has BW as the backbone  where for BPC 5.1 there is none. Howveer, in  BPC 7.0, the BPC will rest on BI and things will be much better.

  • SEM-BCS on SAP-BW master data alignment

    We are implementing SEM-BCS rel 3.2 on SAP-BW 3.2
In the SEM infoproviders some standard BW info-objects are used such as 0CO_AREA, 0COMPANY etc.
These info objects are also used in BW infoproviders.
In SEM-BCS the masterdata that is already available in these infoobjects is not visible. The documentation describes that the SEM system is leading concerning the master data.
When we create masterdata in SEM for these infoobjects, with te same key as used in BW (the same company number), it creates new records in the BW masterdata table and so deleting the attribute values in the BW tables.
Note 689229 describes some synchronization programs that can be used to synchronize master data from SEM into BW. It is also possible to use these programs to initially synchronize the BW masterdata to SEM so you don't have to create the master data in SEM but only have to enhance it.
Has anyone have experience with this issue and can you provide me with information what to do and what not to do.
    Thanks, Wil Heijmans
    Trespa International

    Hi Wil,
it's right you'll have to synchronize the master data. When we implemented SEM-BCS 3.1 we had some problems with the reports so we used the following routine.
    1. Upload attributes into SEM-BCS.
    2. Put them into the hierarchies if needed.
    3. Synchronize attributes to BW.
    4. Do attribute change run in BW.
Synchronizing hierarchies was a bit painful so we decided to use different hierarchies (it helped at some other points too because we needed additional features in BW hierarchies like other InfoObjects).
Synchronizing BW attributes into SEM-BCS attributes was even worse because the standard BCS attributes could not be filled this way.
We worked on early SEM 3.1 as one of the ramp-up customers. The programs may have changed in the meantime but the one above has worked for us.
    Best regards

    Hi Vikram
Please use Search Functionality in the forum, there are many threads answering your question.
Based on my experience, in current versions BPC 5.1 has lot of limitations to be used as full consolidation product.
It has good features and will be developed in future releases as complete consoliation product.
From my understanding, till then BCS will only be preferred for consolidation.

  • Difference SEM-BCS and BO PLanning & Consolidation

    Hi all,
as announced in the subject. I was wondering what the difference between SEM-BCS and BO Planning & Consolidation is(so referring to the consolidation part)?
Is BO Planning & Consolidation = BO Planning + SEM BCS
    Looking forward to your ideas!
    Best regards
    Hagen

    Hi Collet,
Sorry I have no time to make a full-fledged comparison SEM-BCS and SAP BPC as you asked.
Regarding your last link: very interesting information. Thank you very much.
    The citation from the article:
    Known Limitations
In SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation (BPC), organizations (i.e. entities and groups/consolidation scopes) car vary according to Category and Time. However, all the other dimensions are static, which means they have neither category nor time dependency. As a result, the model presented here will use static Profit Center and Intercompany Profit Center dimensions.
Eliminations (so called Automatic Adjustments in BPC) are primarily driven by Legal Entity and Intercompany dimensions. As a result, when it comes to Matrix Consolidation, each elimination will still occur based on this fact. So, basically, an elimination is triggered if both an Entity and the Intercompany entity are being consolidated under the same node (i.e. Group or Consolidation scope). In other words, BPC does not evaluate as such the Profit Center and Intercompany Profit Center dimensions when it comes to performing eliminations. Amounts will be eliminated based on the Legal Entity view. However, it is possible to analyze and group eliminations by Profit Center later on. As a result, Matrix consolidation will heavily leverage the reporting/filtering capabilities of the product.
I'm afraid that in SEM-BCS' sense the Matrix consolidation has much more deep meaning than that presented here.

  • SEM-BCS Courses | Materials

    Hi,
I would like to take a training on SEM-BCS from SAP.
Can you please let me know the course contents and what all areas should actually be taken up in order to be considered knowledgable in SEM-BCS.
The issue that I am facing is that people opine differently when consulted and SAP India eductation site does not offer any course exclusively for SEM-BCS.
Could this be a part of the normal BW course?.
    Kindly Help
    Regards,
    Sam.

  • SAP SEM-BCS demo or practical scenario

    Hi!
I have first experience working with SAP BI and have implemented several BI demo scenarios in SAP BI 7.0.
Now I would like to implement a SEM-BCS scenario.
I have a SAP ERP 2005 IDES system and SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0 system.
Can some one recommend how to getting started in this area?
    - SDN blogs
    - SAP courses
    - other suitable documentations
Any helpful informatio will be very appreciated and awarded by points
    Thank you

    I concur with Dan.
Additionally, you may use sap help:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sem60ep1/helpdata/en/62/f7e73ac6e7ec28e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
Though, without a practice in the system I doubt that it we'll be helpful.
Some blogs. Actually, for beginners, one that I know is here:
    /people/sap.user72/blog/2006/07/21/how-to-upload-hierarchy-and-master-data-of-fs-items-in-sap-sem-bcs-40-by-using-flexible-upload-method
I didn't see any good documentation (books nincluded) yet.
And certainly the forums dedicated to consolidation. One within the active ones is that were you are now.

  • SAP BPC Consolidations vs SEM-BCS

    Hi all,
Has anyone compared the features/functionalities of SAP BPC Consolidation with SEM-BCS consolidation? What are the advantages of BPC Consolidation  over SEM-BCS, and vice-versa? For a brand new implementation, what is the preferred tool?
    Thanks,
    Sujoy Banerjee

    Hi Sujoy,
In general if you are starting out with a new implementation, BPC is the recommended solution for several reasons:
    1) It's a unified solution offering both Consolidations and Planning
    2) It's designed to be owned and managed by business users, not IT
    3) It's integrated with the Enterprise Performance Management for Finance suite, which also includes profitability and strategy management
If however you need support for complex consolidation scenarios, such as legal consolidations, you may want to consider BCS.
You should be able to find several documents comparing the two solutions if you go the Support Center (https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/support) and do a document search on BPC vs. BCS.
    Hope this helps.

  • Difference between SAP BPC & SEM BCS

    Hi Gurus,
What is the difference between SAP BPC & SEM BCS And throw some light on both?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sandy.

    Hi Sandy,
The functionality in BPC mainly 1) Planning   2) Consolidation
    1) Planning : You can have any type planning scenario.  Ex.: Sales planning.  Based on the actual previous data
we will have some projection reports on the sales for future sales, so we can have planning scenario here . We can change
the projections as per our requirement for any number of times.
Ex 2: HR Planning.  Based on the market condition we have recruitment planning, based on the actual data (Existing Emp.)
Ex 3: Accounts Expenditure planning like this we can have planning forecastings.
    2) Consolidations : We can consolidate the group company, companies with currency translations, allocations, Inter Unit
eliminations, consolidated P&L accounts & Consolidated Balance Sheets are possible in this.
But where as in BCS you can do only 2 part.  The first part is not possible.  Hence I personally suggest you to learn BPC NW
it will be more useful.  BPC is now going to integrated with BO (Buss. Objects) also from 7.5 ver onwards.
I hope this may help you.

  • New SAP-BI Architecture on top of SEM-BCS/BPS

Hello - my company currently has SEM-BCS/BPS up and running within SAP-BI for about 4 years now.  We are now going to build additional architecture in SAP-BI.  For instance, we are developing a FI-GL Cube, a SD Cube, and a PS Cube (i.e. along with the corresponding DSO's and DataSources).  My concern is will this have a negative impact on our already established SEM-BCS/BPS platform?

Of course, if with setting up the new applications you use the same infoobjects that were already used (adding master data or even change their properties), you'll certainly interfere with the old apps.
Reg. MD sync - try to use searching in the forum. The key word - UGMDSYNC. It was discussed many times.

  • Any landscape recommendations for 2004s BI & SEM-BCS 6.0 ?

    Hi,
in addition to our ERP 2005 we plan to set up a separate central BI 7.0 for following integrated NW2004s scenarios:
    - Enterprise wide central reporting, query and analysis.
    - BI Integrated Planning (successor of SEM-BPS).
    - SEM-BCS 6.0.
    <u>Question:</u>
Should the BCS be installed on a separate system, because of patch interdependencies with the central BI?
If yes, does BCS still need its own local BI, or can it run remotely with the central BI (like the old BW-BPS)?
Similar sap recommendations exist only for SEM-BPS, which we won't use in favor of BI Integrated Planning.
I searched the whole sap.marketplace for this, in vain.
The installations and combination-possibilities are beautifully explained, but no official recommendations about what should all be put on one central BI and what should be better kept apart.
Rumors say you should keep SEM out of your central BI and give it its own BI, to avoid painful patch/release dependencies.
What about the "single point of truth"-conecept in one central BI then?
    Thank's for any hints ...
    Robert

    Hi Eugene,
thanks for your callback. Here an example:
Say, you need a BI-Patch (urgent bug-fix) or may be a BI-Upgrade to be able to use new functionalities for your Enterprise wide central reporting, query and analysis (since you don't use the BI only for BCS).
So, you would have to wait, until the same is also available for SEM-BCS, as it it tightly coupled to the BI (e.g. direct writing to transactional cubes, query via virtual cube augmented with data at query-runtime).
Notes like 727776 and 317339 just make me suspicious.
A similar SAP Help-hint is only available for BW-BPS (but we will use BI integrated Planning)
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_02/helpdata/en/44/584041b02e4c0de10000000a1550b0/content.htm
Since more and more SAP-Applications need a BI, i am desperately missing a comprehensive overview, which of them should not be placed in the same BI for technical reasons (e.g. one sap-note says Bank-Analyzer and SEM-BCS should not be on the same BI).
    Regards
    Robert

  • Diference between R/3 ECCS & SEM BCS

    <b>Hi all,
We ve to compare the two systems R/3-ECCS and SEM-BCS in detail as we are goin for consolidation using SAP. Could you people suggest something regardin this.
It will be very nice if you could suggest some parameters based on which these to be compared.</b>

The main difference is that you don't have to pay additional licence fees for R/3 EC-CS, because it is part of R/3. As long as you didn't buy mySAP ERP or the mySAP Business Suite you would have to buy an additional SEM license to use SEM BCS.
As far as I know, R/3 EC-CS offers all necessary functionality for consolidation and is a sophisticated product.
But in the end, SEM BCS will be the path to the future, even if the implementation might be not so easy today.

  • SEM-BCS  Enh 5.0 in SEM-BW 605 as per 1171344

any rumors on when a new version ([currently 7|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1171344]) is coming to the market?
looking at prior versions it should happen any time now.

    HI Greg,
Are you trying to give us a clue on something about to happen?
I'm very interested in EHP5 and by co-incidence I just checked again today:
1171344 - last updated in July 2010, there is high level info on the two functions to be provided inside EHP5,
There is also a little information here: https://websmp109.sap-ag.de/erp-ehp
However, we are still lacking the low level details.
1120848 - Restricted usage of SEM-BW 7.00 or FINBASIS 7.00 last updated December 2007 confirms that SEM-BW 7 is and FINBASIS 7 are specifically for "Banking Services" and not to be confused with upgrades to SEM-BCS, which will be release 605, EHP5 for BCS.
NB By looking at some other OSS notes, I found this info on what looks like Support Pack (SP) 4 of SEM-BW 605:
    https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/spat/index.htm?sp1=SAPK-60504INSEMBW
There are 15 OSS notes in there for BCS specifically, so this suggests that some people are on release 605.
Thereafter a little fiddling with the address bar led me to the equivalent 60504 for FINBASIS, but there were no notes for BCS.
    I worked backwards to here:
    https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/spat/index.htm?sp1=SAPK-60503INFINBASIS
There are two BCS notes here (drill down to FIN-FB-WB)
So, this suggests that EHP5 is already live at various ramp up sites, and SPs are being created to address issues
When will it be on general release is still my question
    - have you got some insider knowledge to share?

  • Transactional data for SEM-BCS

    Dear experts!
We are working in a SEM-BCS project and wonder which is the best solution to load data from FI-GL into BCS.
As far as I know there are two possibilities to do this:
.) extract form RFBILA00 and then use the flexible upload method
.) load the data into a FI-GL-cube in BW and then use the read from data stream method
Does anybody have experience with these two variants and know about the advantages/disadvantages?
Does it make a difference if you use new or old general ledger (concerning the load scenario)?
For me the load from the info cube looks more elegant, but the sap help documentation describes only the RFBILA00-extract (if you look for integration with other SAP systems).
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Best regards
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    - Abt. RFBILA00 - I tried to use it but refused. Maybe I wasn't lucky enough, but I couldn't get partners.
    - Abt extraction to BW - try to use 0SEM_BCS_10.
    - I also used to activate extraction total records to GLT3 and then using the generic datasource extracted it in BW.
    - There are many ways for extacting data in BW. I even saw such a decision where the whole huge BSEG table was used.
A work with new GL, IMHI, is preferable for BCS consolidation since there are some features that make a life a bit easier (it's easier to setup ERP in order to extract all info needed).
