Sending Virtual Keypress while locking out peripherials

I am working on a 2010 LV program to mitigate operator errors--pretty simple; mainly manipulating a third party executable window (TPEW).  However, my program (MP) works great but has a huge, basic flaw that I am sure there is a simple solution?  Without a solution, unfortunately, correct operation of MP relies on the premise the user will not touch any peripherals; not very reliable when MP is supposed to add process control—LOL.  After the user scans a few barcodes into MP, MP activates opens/activates the TPEW, sends virtual key presses (VKPs), using user32.dll commands—typical method I think, to “type” the name of a particular graphics file (and other info) into the TPEW data fields.  MP works like a champ, unless the user clicks the mouse (deactivates the TPEW) or hits the actual keyboard (extraneous keys corrupt the laser marking graphics file name MP is “typing” in).  MP needs to periodically disable the peripherals, but at the same time, be able to send VKPs.  GIVEN THIS METHOD (user32.dll) OF SENDING VKPs OR ANY OTHER, CAN PERIPHERALS BE DISABLE BY AT THE SAME TIME VKPs ARE SENT USING LV?  I searched the entire internet, but have not found a solution.

I am researching autoit, but don't quite get it yet.  Do you know if I add send key commands using API calls, where you specified to enter my code, will it be blocked by the autoit block?  Please see example code in jpeg I posted below, using API disable input. My prob is if I disable input using API, it also disables my keypresses sent via API.  I am kinda thinking disabling via autoit will have the same problem.  Maybe I need to figure out another method to send virtual keypresses, though I don't have a clue what would work other than sending via API as I am.
I hope this works, or I may be SOL.  I just need to do a bit more research to see how to configure it.

Shannon

  • Can I disable the alert "the referenced account is currently locked out..."

I posted the following on the answers site but was recommended to post here
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/can-i-disable-the-alert-the-referenced-account-is/0af4441c-2f70-4452-a876-7c582fbd6530
A client has asked me to enable an account lockout threshold on their domain.
I have made the appropriate changes in Group Policy and also configured an email notification under Task Scheduler that is triggered by Event ID 4740 appearing in the security log. http://community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show/1588-send-email-on-account-lock-out
It was when testing this that I noted after the nth incorrect password, I received an on screen alert "the referenced account is currently locked out and cannot be logged on to"
I tested again with an invalid username and did not get the same message. This is potentially a problem because it means that an attacker sees a difference between a valid username and an invalid username without being required to know any correct
    passwords.
Is there any way that I can disable this on screen alert so that attackers are not presented with a means to validate usernames?
I am already aware that account lockouts are no longer in favour for other reasons and have informed the client about the possibility of a denial of service attack that deliberately triggers these lockouts and taken certain steps to mitigate the
    effects.
However, given that an informed decision has been made to stick with the account lockout policy I would like to be able to mitigate this other undesired consequence if at all possible.

    Hi Matt,
I understand your concern, although I wasn’t able to find a way to disable or change these embedded Windows messages.
With Account Lockout policy enabled, the risk that accounts being hacked has been reduced a lot. In addition, we can monitor security logs to determine whether hacking behaviors exist or not.

  • Sending an User an email using SCORCH based on a SCOM alert that his/her account was locked out.

    Hi,
I am interested in finding a solution for the following topic.
We would like to send an email to an End-User who's Windows Account has been locked-out. Besides the fact there are measures in place to deal with the situation in general (Monitoring by SCOM 2012 R2, looking for eventid:4740) we would like to notify the
    End-User about this event too.
So, we have SCOM 2012 R2 in place to collect all the necessary information at a central location, if you will. The tricky part is to take the information and create an email containing the email address of the User who's account was locked-out. That information
resides within the Description of the Event.
Having asked around basically everyone is pointing to Orchestrator to do the job. Being new to that topic I wonder if someone else has that type of requirement and maybe already found a solution.
So key is, SCOM collects the information from all DCs, has a rule to identify EventID4740, than Orchestrator comes into play to take that Alert and send out an email to the user, who's name is part of the Event Description.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
first you need to setup System Center Orchestrator:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh420387.aspx . The current version is System Center 2012 R2 Orchestrator.
You also need to register, deploy and configure the System Center Integration Pack for System Center 2012 Operations Manager (download of the current version:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39622&WT.mc). You need to install The OpsMgr Operantion Console on the Orchestrator Runbook Server that it works, or
    http://blog.coretech.dk/jgs/sco-2012-use-operations-manager-integration-pack-without-installing-opsmgr-console-on-runbook-servers/.
In the event description of 4740 there's the account name not the email address. If the email addresses for the users are maintained in Active Directory register and deploy the Active Directory Integration Pack for System Center 2012 - Orchestrator (also
    located in the download above).
With that all you can build a Runbook like that:
Or do you have or want to write a PowerShell-Workflow for that you can use this with Service Management Automation (SMA), contained in the setup of System Center 2012 R2 Orchestrator.

  • Can you lock out the Ipad while it is traveling down the road?

I would like to put an Ipad in my trucks, but I can't trust the drivers to not use it while they are driving. Is there a way to lock out the Ipad while the vehicle is moving?

Perhaps a Workstation Associated app that just pushed an invalid value for the
    GINA.DLL
Either Remote Regedit or another Force-Run app could restore this to a correct
    value.
Needs testing to make sure you can fix what you break, but this would lead
    everything intact.

  • I want to lock out the PC keyboard while allowing barcode reader input

I have an application that uses a barcode reader to enter part numbers.  I have been asked by manglement if I can lock-out the keyboard to prevent the users from typing in the part numbers (too prone to error in typing).  As the barcode reader is a separate USB port from the keyboard, is there a way to identify the keyboard port and disable it programmatically?

Since your barcode reader is USB, you may have the ability to set it up as a COM port.  Several USB readers will either behave as a keyboard or a COM port.  You would then have to modify your software to look at the COM Port.  You can change the control to an indicator and the user will not be able to do anything.
The other option, which is what I typically do, is to add prefix and suffix characters to the barcode scanner.  I pick a prefix that corresponds to a LabVIEW Key Navigation settign to set focus to the control.  This way, whenever the barcode scanner scans, the control is automatically highlighted and the barcode fills end.  I usually use a suffix of the ENTER key so the data is entered.
This way, you can hide your control off-screen so users cannot see it.  Use an indicator on-screen.  You can even set the off-screen control to be skipped while tabbing.  The other nice thing with the prefix is I can simulate the barcode with the keyboard by using the special key navigation sequence.  This is not 100% tamper-proof, but most operators aren't going to know what you are doing to skip the barcode reader unless you show them.

    Hi,
I have definitely heard your frustration, we can try these steps to check if it works.
Note: Before doing the following steps, please make a backup of your registry first.
    1. edit "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open " and delete the "ddeexec" key.  The "ddeexec" key can also be deleted from "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open".
    2. Change the registry for Word 2013 by right-clicking and saving:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open\ddeexec] @="[REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen(\"%1\")]" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open\ddeexec\Application] @="WordView" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open\ddeexec\Topic]
    @="System" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open\ddeexec] @="[REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen(\"%1\")]" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open\ddeexec\Application] @="WordView" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open\ddeexec\Topic]
    @="System"
    3. Double-click the file after downloading to update the registry.

  • Locked out! PLEASE HELP!

Any help would be appreciated greatly! To start, I woke my computer screensaver and it prompted me
with the login screen, as usual. However, when I typed in my password, the login screen shook as if it
were wrong. Thinking I may have typed it wrong, I typedit in again...and again...and again....and again.
Much to my dismay, it was not accepting my password. I hadn't changed it or fiddled with any of the settings
prior to this happening. So, thinking it might be confused, I held down the power button and shut it off. Rebooting it, I was prompted again with the login. This time, it no longer showed my username. Just two blank fields. I typed in my user name, which I know as well, and my password. Still that littled prompt screen shakes in refusal. Now I am not a mac expert and I only know enough to just barely get by if problems come up. Knowing I am ignorant as to how to go about fixing this, I used my sister's computer to look around for answers. I found out I could use the mac OS X installation disk to try and reset the password.
This ended in defeat as well.
I clicked on my hard drive, selected my user in the dropdown and typed in the password (the same one I've always used. (Maybe that's the problem?) Everything seemed fine and I rebooted to see if the installation disk had fixed the problem. I ran into the two blank fields again. Nothing I typed in, all passwords I would ever use and different ways of typing my name, and they still refused the info I typed in.
Booting up on the installation disk again, thinking I could try and change the password again, I was met with another horror: the dropdown said there were no users on my disk to choose from. This is where DiskWarrior comes in. I owe this software everything! I used it and found that my data was fine. I even moved my important files off onto an external hard drive just to be safe. While in there, I could even see that my user was completely intact.
Still, even after trying to rebuild my directory with disk warrior, repairing my disk and permissions with the installation disk, all of which showed problems with my disk and fixed them, I am completely locked out of my computer. I called apple support and tgey said they could try and diagnos it over the phone or I could send it in to them. Mind you, no-one I spoke to knew what the problem was, let alone having heard of it. I'm a little low on cash and I'm not sure I want to pay to have my computer looked at only to find that they don't know what to do. (My computer us almost four years old. It's a tough little ****, having gone through a lot in my care, and it's out of warrentee, meaning the cost of diagnosis would not be covered by apple.)
I need to know several things:
    1. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? If so, how dud you fix it?
    2. Apple seems to think it's some form of hard drive failure and suggested an archival restore or something, where the computer would reinstall its os without affecting my personal data. Chillingly, they said if that doesn't work, they recomend EARSING THE HARD DRIVE COMPLETELT. That's the last step I ever wish to take, but do you think the archival restore or whatever it's called will solve it?
    3. I did some research on the net, driven to find some way of fixing it at home, and my problem might have something to do with my Keychain. Now not being able to even log in to my computer, is there somehow a wat to access the keychain and alter/fix/erase the login info there?
    4. On the matter of the keychain, several people on the internet have suggested a solution on how to change or bypass the keychain by starting up the computer in single user mode and using programming code. I stress again: I am NOT very good with computers. I'm scared to death that I will do something wrong and mess up my entire computer. Even so, would you recommend I do this? Does my ptoblem sound like It has anything to do with the keychain?
Thank you in advance. I really hope someone can help or at least give me a clear path to start on.
    Notes:
My computer is 13" Macbook running Tiger version 10.4.1
My computer also had a great fall as I stumbled over my cat and ever since, if I tried to lift the laptop While it is on it would shut off or restart. Other than that, my computer worked just fine. But getting it in to have that checked and fixed was on my to do list, but then this happens. Is there a possible connection?

(My computer us almost four years old. It's a tough little ****, having gone through a lot in my care, and it's out of warrentee, meaning the cost of diagnosis would not be covered by apple.)
Last I heard, there was "No Charge" for a genius appointment at the Apple Store. Repairing it is something else completely, but I believe they will take 15 minutes to do what they can.

  • Office 2010 & 2007 - Excel and Access File Locking Out On the Network With Multiple Users

This is also posted in the Office 2010 - IT Pro General Discussions, but was suggested to repost here, since a definitive answer was not found.
    Hi,
An issue that's happening is that Excel and Access files are locking on the network. We're currently using Office 2007 and 2010.
Here are some different scenarios that are happening:
When opening the file it is locked out by “User X” which is the person that has the file locked out and no one else can open the file.
When opening the file it is locked out by “User Y” which is NOT the actual person, but is locked out by “User X” and no one else can access the file.
When opening the file  it is locked out by “…another user” which is generic and no one else can access the file.
The two more common events are incident 1 and 2 with 3 happening the less common.
This message will continue until the sessions are closed through computer management on the file server.
The file server is running Windows Server 2003.
This does happen on both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients.
This does happen for users using Office 2007 and Office 2010.
There are two sets of Office 2010 Users when it comes to patches. Everyone has the most current patches with Office 2010 SP2 while anyone that has Microsoft Project 2010 is using all the current update before Office 2010 SP2.
All users that are using Office 2007 have all the current patches and service packs.
Another variable is that we have users that will leave a file open on the network for 3+ days and after a while it will lock the file out.
Also we have Shadow Copy that runs daily on the system which I'm not for sure if that impacts anything if a file is opening during that time.
Any ideas on how to mitigate the lock out issues would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Binary Process
Edit November 12, 2013: This issue can occur if and if not another person actually has the file open. If the person doesn't have the file open then there is a hung connection which needs to be disconnected by going to the Computer Management of the File
    server.

    Hi Binary,
I know that the description of the hotfix does not relate to the issue. The purpose is to install it for upgrading SMB related file.
A similar issue I encountered before:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/b7fcc59b-52d9-4a02-863a-1a529bcb8cb1/temp-doc-etc-files-dont-close-after-a-file-closes-this-causes-locked-files?forum=winserverfiles
It is resolved by upgrading SMB files so maybe it will help on your case.

  • Locked out of Macbook Pro w/ Retina

I just bought my Macbook Pro with the Retina screen and I was moving my stuff from my imac to my macbook using Migration Assistant and I clicked continue before the estimate was reached for how much memory everything would take so It went on to move my stuff and then I get a message saying that there wasn't enough space in my Macbook Pro for everything so I went back and deselected my applications and stuff so it could all fit. After that, It asked to register my macbook with my Apple ID and all that stuff so I did that and then after that It went to my logon screen. This screen shows the same picture of me that I made for my account on my iMac so I know that got moved over BUT I tried putting in the same password that I used on my iMac (and every password I've ever made in my entire life) but every time my macbook pro says that it's and incorrect password. So I've looking around the web and i realized that you can simpley fix this on any other computer by reinstalling the software from a disk that comes with your computer but the Macbook Pro with the Retina screen doesn't have an optical drive so I've come to realize that there are only two ways to fix this. Either somehow get around the password (Which is where I need the community's help if it's possible), OR I can Go to the Apple store in the morning because It's midnight right now. I'm also thinking about calling Apple Support and hoping that somebody is awake right now to take my call. I'm asking for the community's help right now to see what my options are. If I can't do anything but go to the apple store in the morning, I'll just wait until then. Thanks for any possible help that I may receive here!
    -Nick

I had this same problem yesterday.  I ended up reinstalling several times.  I was then stuck in a virtual loop where it kept making me add a new account time and time again.  I finally called Apple support and they had me log in via safe mode by holding down the shift key when starting up.  This allowed me to log in.  I am not sure if this helps when it is still just locked out but it might work.  I held down the option key to reinstall the operating system and I waited to import until after sucessfully reinstalling Lion.
I would suggest if you do try erasing the HD and reinstalling Lion it will take a while.  Set up your main account, then, before migrating, create a new account that you will log in to for the migration.  This will allow you to merge the newly created account and the migrated account.  I got locked out again when I did this but I was able to go into the secondary account and change my password back.
Hope this helps you.  I know I was pretty frustrated.

  • Pass code (I am locked out)

How do I get by my pass code in iphone 4s?I always set it the same so I dont know how it is not opening.I have to believe there are people who set it when drinking that  dont remember setting  their code. I dont drink so at least they have an excuse.Help!

    Good afternoon timfrommn.
I'm hoping you've been able to unlock your iPhone by now, as I cannot imagine being locked out for so long.  Sadly, our phones have become such a huge necessity.  In case you're still locked out, you can unclock the phone by holding down the Home key while the device is plugged into iTunes on your PC.  You will then be allowed to override the password via Sync or Restore. If you Restore, you will be able to reset your password, which is your best option.
If you still need assistance, please send me a Direct Message, and I will be happy to personally follow up with you.

  • Email sub-account locked out due to too many log in attempts.

Hi All, If someone has had this issue can you share how to get around this?  When I try to log into my sub-account it sends me an access code.  But the code brings me to my primary email account, not the sub-account.  Thanks in advance for any help on this! VAFrank

Been on hold for over two hours on three different calls -- I guess Verizon tech support is off the holiday?   Must be nice!   Meanwhile, can't get to email on sub account!   This is a sad joke!!   You mean that I will be locked out of this email until they decide to take calls again?  There is NO reason why I should not be able to correct this from the web without having to speak to anybody!  Totally unaccepable.   I had better control over sub-accounts with Comcast. Oh, well.  I thought Verizon had their act together better than Comcast with customer service and web tools but evidentally I was wrong.   With Comcast it was simple -- I paid their bills but never lost service and could fix anything myself.   With Verizon, I pay pretty much the same amount for same service but at least I could fix issues suich as this -- I rarely had to call Comcast for tech support -- I've had to call Verizon THREE TIMES to fix this same issue in six months from hiccups with password programs -- I shouldn't see "NULL" for the secret question -- nor should I see the main account when I get locked out of the sub-account and go through the process to get the text code on the phone and whatnot, then get sent to the password settings for the main account -- that is sloppy!  Worse, while I see "NULL" for my secret question -- the voice agents can see the question because they ask me for the secret answer!  Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy! Worse, Verizon has no explanation for this unacceptable nonsense and has to know about it because I've brought it up with agents.  That tells me Verizon simply doesn't care or is satisfied with how things are.   I can get just as lousy customer service from Comcast but, as I said, at least I could fix issues such as this with clear instructions on the Comcast customer page -- no "hidden" or "special" links like what was mentioned earlier in this thread, which don't work anyway now if they did at one time!   I was with Comcast for 10 years, never, ever had a situation where I couldn't unlock an account.    So, counting the days until my contract is over!   A year and a half, sadly.

So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.
You will find respective repair costs in the appropriate link:
    iPod Service Support and Costs
    iPhone Service Support and Costs
    iPad Service Support and Costs
There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task:
    1. iResq or Google for others.
    2. Buy and replace screen yourself: iFixit
