Sequence monitor OK.....Program monitor not OK?

A imported jpeg file looks OK in the source monitor, but is messed up in the program monitor: horizontally striped, each stripe offset several pixels to the right of the one above it. The following link shows an example:
http://cid-a48e00d4dc98bfc2.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/PProCS4/PProJ.jpg
But there's more...
An imported AVI file captured from DV shows the unwanted effect in both the source and program monitors:

Some troubleshooting tips.

  • Premiere Pro CS2 - Audio track prevents sequence play in program monitor

My sequence consists of 1 Video Track, and 2 Audio Tracks.  The "Video 1" and "Audio 1" tracks in the sequence consists of subclips taken from a master clip avi in the Project Panel captured from my video camera, and "Audio 2" in the sequence are MP3's that have been imported into the Project Panel.  The sequence plays fine and I'm able to make edits as long as the "Audio 1" track of the captured avi is disabled, and with "Audio 2" enabled.  But when the "Audio 1" track is enabled, the sequence will not play in the program monitor, and the entire program freezes up until I disable the "Audio 1" track, or otherwise the program just crashes.
I've Googled my brains out today and yesterday, and I've reviewed all the program settings to the best of my knowledge.  I'm trying to produce a video that allows me to mix between the "Audio 1" track and the "Audio 2" track, but can't figure out why the "Audio 1" track prevents the sequence from playing in the Program Monitor.
My soundcard is Creative SB Audigy 2, on Win XP.  Can someone please help me understand what I'm overlooking?

Thanks Hunt, this was some solid information, especially the link.  I believe I've figured out the problem though... and it was ME!
I didn't want to do it, but sometimes when you have a stubborn problem, it's best to just start all over from the beginning.  It turns out that what I thought was a developing masterpiece, was in reality only a HOT MESS, lol.
The problem seemed to be in the way I created the subclips, in regards to whether the video and/or audio was selected, with respect to the in & out points, and with how those subclips were placed into the Timeline.  The problem was definitely in those subclips (...it's like the Timeline didn't know what to do with them). Once I went back, checked the source avi and master clips to verify they were intact, and being more careful in how I added the new clips into the Timeline, the audio from the imported video AND from the MP3's are now playing just fine in harmony, and I'm able to edit the sequence in the Program Monitor and with the Audio Mixer (...just as I suspected I was supposed to be able to do).
Funny how when you think there's a major problem, it just turns out that the program was only doing what you were telling it to do, lol.  Thanks so much for stepping up and helping out Hunt.  It's so frustrating sitting by the computer, hoping someone will come to the rescue.  Your response was exactly the gentle guidance I needed.  Much appreciated!

  • Source monitor and program monitor boxes will not display video in full only half

I have adobe premiere pro cs6 and source monitor and program monitor boxes will not display video in full only half.  So the top half of both monitors are black and the bottom half is where the video displays.  But you can see that the video is missing the top part.  Like people's heads are cut off and can only see body.  How can i fix this so premiere pro cs6 will use the full monitors boxes to display my video?

This is a known issue with a recent Windows update.

  • Source Monitor and Program Monitor not playing back video

The last time I used Premiere Pro CC was Oct 8 and the program worked fine. As of today, I reopened the project file and the source and program monitors are displaying nothing respectively. However, the audio playback for both are unaffected. I've tried making a completely new project with different video and I get the same error. I've restarted Premiere, restarted the computer, and reinstalled Premiere. No help. :/

    Hi,
Please go to File > Project Settings > General and change the video renderer to GPU Acceleration software only and see if that helps.

  • Switching ExternalMonitor View from "Source Monitor" to "Program Monitor"?

This worked fine in CS6, but I switched to Premiere CC and my external monitor is displaying the contents of Premiere's "Source Monitor" only, not the "Program Monitor". When the Timeline or Program monitor is selected, the extrenal monitor is black. But slecting Source Monitor plays fine on the extrenal moitor (through SDI connection)
How do I switch to the viewing the Program Monitor signal in my external monitor instead of the Source Monitor?
Tech Setup: using Blackmagic ultrastudio mini monitor to send SDI signal. Have installed the latest driver for the Blackmagic ultrastudio, which is approved for Adobe CC. Everything works perfectly in Premiere CS6, it's an issue inside Premiere CC.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your help Peter!

  • Source monitor smooth program monitor jerky

Hi, just checking to see if someone will have an idea of why my video has a playback problem. It plays very smoothly in the source monitor but in the program monitor it is not very smooth at all. Even when I go to highest quality playback. It actually seems to run smoother on that Automatic quality. If I attempt to the shuttle button, it will advance the verticle time indicator, but the image in the window freezes.
I'm using Premiere Pro CS4. I have 2 1tb hard drives, 2.1g processor, and 4gb of RAM. It has worked perfectly in the past. I haven't been editing video for about 2 months, and when I started editing again today, these things were noticed.

    Hello Bill,
Yes there was a red line above the clips in the timeline. I hit the enter key to begin rendering and when it finished, the video played smoothly in the program monitor and source monitor using all three available video qualities in each.
The AV files were raw digital video downloaded to my computer hard drive from a 16gb class 4 memory card. It was shot using a Canon VIXIA HF200 using FXP mode. It was brought into Premiere as a DV- NTSC standard 48KHz preset.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Using the Source Monitor and Program Monitor

    strJiveDescriptionhttp://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/source-monitor-program-monitor.html

Even back in the days of printed manuals, there were often sections, that repeated, as they had application to a few slightly different topics. I always found that better (then), than just having a note to "go to _____ for info on this." Probably used a few extra trees, but one did not have to constantly flip back and forth. Now that we're talking 1's and 0's, I can see where a limited bit of repetition would enhance the flow of knowledge, and understanding, even when hyper-linked.
    Just my observations,
    Hunt

  • Source Monitor and Program Monitor dead in Premier Pro?

I recently installed Premiere Pro CS6 on my laptop so I could use it on location, but both the Source Monitor and the Program monitor are completly dead. The Source Monitor just displays a bright array of colours when you try to play anything, and the Program Monitor is just plain black. The audio still plays at full volume and I've tested the imported media (a mixture of .jpg, .mov and .mp4 fils) in other programs on my computer and they work fine. Any suggestions people?

  • Overlays in master Program Monitor disappear

Has anyone encountered with the new version of Premiere Pro (2014) that the Overlays showing source TC in the program monitor  will disappear and cannot be turned on again? I have several projects using the same template and some will show the overlays but others not. Please, don't tell me to go to the settings menu and make sure the overlays check mark is there; been there done that a dozen times along with changing the setting for the overlays, restarting the app, and restarting the brand new Mac Pro. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Media showing pending in project folder and source and program monitor

I have Premier Pro CC and Premier Pro CC 2014 and I now have an issue with some imported files showing in the project window as pending. If I open them in the source monitor or program monitor I get the same message. Some of the files are green until you hover over them then they go to the gold screen with text showing Media Pending. Any ideas what's going on? I'm on a PC with 32G memory and nvidia GTX680 GPU and I was not experiencing this issues before.

On the slight chance you're using that awful, notoriously bug-laden plug-in Magic Bullet Looks, it's causing this same problem, and you are guaranteed that by disabling it, your problem is solved.  It was a nightmare for me, because my whole project was color-corrected based upon that plug-in, so I had to downgrade to an earlier version from last year since Red Giant are totally stagnant in fixing its bugs.

  • Source & Program Monitor

I shooted a stage program with two cameras. I am using CS5.5 to edit the videos. How can I see both cameras videos same time one in source monitor another in program monitor. If I use gang source and program monitor the I can see both videos in source monitor and program monitor by dragging but if I play I can see only the program monitor video then after pause the source monitor video jumps to the position. Is there any way to play both videos same time in source monitor and program monitor?

  • Image / picture not showing up in source or program monitor

I am working in Premiere Pro CC 2014. I cannot see the footage / images in either the source monitor or the program monitor. I can see the thumbnails in the bins but when I drag to the sequence or into source monitor, the picture does not come up in the monitors. I can see the images in AE and in Premiere Pro CC.
I have reset workspace. I have restarted the computer. It does not matter what the file format is.
    Thoughts? Thanks.

    Hey!
Have you tried changing the Video Renderer? If not, go to File > Project settings > General and change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only. Click OK and select "Delete Previews".
    Hope this helps..

  • Timeline edits not displaying in Program Monitor

My issue is when trimming a clip in my sequence timeline, I'm no longer seeing the clip displayed in the Program Monitor as I attempt to edit either by keyboard shortcut or with the move Tool. (it remains black throughout)
Is there a simple setting I changed that disabled this? I've tried resetting the workspace to default, but I'm unable to view clips I'm trimming in any monitor in realtime, only after making changes.
Also - When I scrub through the clips will play, just not when trimming.
Does anyone know the solution to this please?

There's no user adjustment for this, it normally just happens.

  • Program Monitor - I'm not seeing whole clip when playing back

I'm real worried!  Having spent days of my life importing video and editing it - and then trying to fix my problem of only seeing a part of the playing-back clip in the program monitor which led me onto your site.  I've spent hours looking at your posts (and indeed Adobe help pages) trying to solve this and clearly (I think!) my original sequence settings have been wrong.  Maybe I can come back to that because I'm really not sure how to set these correctly.  My initial question please, if I complete my editing and then export this file, will I still only see part of the clips in the final version, or will I see the whole of the original movie clip?
    Some information:
    - Windows 7
    - Premiere Pro CS4
    - Program Monitor setting is "Fit"
    - 16:9 aspect ratio
    - PAL (based in the UK)
    - Sony HD camcorder - SR12E
    - 1920 x 1080i HD
Phew, hope that's enough information for you to 'kick start' me!
    Thank you.

Would you also be able to tell me if the Sequence Preset below is my correct preset for the future.  Thanks.
