Serial communication crashes with blue screen

Hello,
I have been troubleshooting an application that consistently kept crashing/hanging after ~1 to 5 minutes. I am communicating with a syringe pump NE1000 from New Era (http://www.syringepump.com). If have finally isolated the problem to a VISA write function.
Configuration:
·         DELL INSPIRON running Win7 64 Bit
·         LabVIEW 2011SP1
USB to Serial RS-232 Adapter [ GUC232A ] http://www.iogear.com/product/GUC232A/
·         The driver for the GUC232A has just been updated to the latest version, but the same behavior was observed with the older driver dating back to 2009.
·         RS232 to “telephone cable” adapter:
·         Telephone cable to RS232 port on syringe pump
I was running the NI Desktop Execution Trace Kit while running the attached Test NE100X – Query Volume.vi. The log is attached, Trace Test NE100X - Query Volume vi (1_4_2013 _ 17_06_11_423180).ttd.
When I run the vi at a loop rate of 10ms, it hangs after 15889 events. (Occasionally, Win7 crashes with the Blue Screen of Death.) I did not find anything unusual in the trace report.
After the vi hangs, it becomes unresponsive. When I attempt to exit LabVIEW, I get the Resetting VI: … message, and LabVIEW is hanging and does not exit:
If I decrease the loop rate to 50 ms and 75 ms, the vi seems to be running longer, but still crashes after about 52000 events, or 25000 events, respectively. At a loop rate of 100ms, it is was running for 51 min and then I had another Blue Screen Windows crash.
What confuses me is that the system just hangs without giving me any timeout or error message. This makes the troubleshooting very difficult. A query rate of 10 Hz seems to be rather low. I wonder whether this is a hardware issue or some bug in the software. I appreciate your help in troubleshooting this issue. Thank you.

Hi
I can see several potential problems with this code. It looks as though what you are trying to do is to send a "DIS" command to the syringe pump and are then trying to read the data that the syringe pump sends back in response to this command.
1. How many bytes are you expecting to get back in response to the DIS command? You're attempting to read 1024 bytes. If you really are expecting 1024 bytes then you need to calculate how long that would take to arrive. If we assume that you're using a data word consisting of 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no parity then the number of bytes you will receive per second = 19200 / (8 + 1) = 2133. Therefore 1024 bytes will take 1024/2133 seconds = 0.48 sec. Therefore there is no point having a loop rate of 10msec. 0.5 seconds would be better.
2. You haven't included the vi that initialises the serial comms so I can't see what timeout value you've assigned. You need to check that it is greater than the time it's going to take for your data to arrive.
3. If you're not expecting exactly 1024 bytes then you need a different strategy for reading back the data. Possible options are i) counting exactly how many bytes you actually do get and using that number in the byte count input, ii)reading data continuously in a small loop until a terminating character is seen. eg if a CRLF is returned at the end of the data, read continuously until you see this. I've attached a modified version of your vi that shows how to implement this last method.
regards
Mike

  • Communication crashes with blue screen

    Hi All,
I am developing a user interface using USB communication. I have to read large number of bytes(40000 bytes) from the port. I divide this task by sending query multiple times. I have attached the application. In timeframe VI depending upon the timeframe I will send the query in read the reply.
The communication is properly takes place untill I change the timeframe value to 10 ms. It will read the whole 40000 bytes but not in one go. I will send that querry 20 times to that port. I am using LabVIEW Professional Developement syatem Windows 7 32 bit.
Please help me out with this problem.

  • Hello i have a problem when i start woorksheet, my computer crash with blue screen sometimes.

hello i have a problem when i start woorksheet, my computer crash with blue screen.
    OS: Win 2000 pack 2 and dasylab 7.00.05 ;ddi7.02 ;nidaq 7.0
I hve this problem sometimes and need to reebot my computer. This worksheet is used to generate 4 signals to output and have an acquisition tooin this 4 channels.
    The error is in the blue screen:0x00000076 (0x00000000 , 0x81358300, 0x000001c2, 0x00000000).
    Thanks for your help.

The DASYLab development team has read your message, and advises that there is insufficient information to be able to even start diagnosing the problem. We suggest that you send a note directly to [email protected], with your full contact information, DASYLab serial number, and the following technical information:
-The Help-->Report information - this will tell us more about the computer, video and installed memory
-Installed hardware - what DAQ devices are you using (exact models!)
-The worksheet that crashes - we need to see how the timing is configured in the worksheet
-What other programs are running at the same time?
-Does the worksheet crash every time?
-Does the NI-DAQ Test Panel work correctly for both inputs and outputs?
Sorry that we cannot be more help in this forum; we do not have much experience with blue screen under Windows 2000. This is very hard to do, and is almost always related to a hardware problem - either a resource conflict, or problems with one of the installed hardware devices (DAQ, Video, Memory...).

    Hello liuqinqin,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
    Have a nice day,

My iPad air either keeps crashing, gets blue screen or reboots itself. It does not seem to matter which program I am using or process I am involved with. Never had this program with my 3. I have the latest software loaded. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Crash with blue screen -- Rosetta bug??

I have now had my MacBook Pro crash 5 times over the past few weeks (since I installed Snow Leopard) in the same way. The screens go blue and then Finder returns, but all programs (and, of course, my work) are gone. Finder returns too fast to be a full re-boot. PRAM reset doesn't help. Disks are clean.
I've seen some other reports of similar behavior and I now suspect Rosetta. This has happened to me most often (always?) when I'm editing in Word 2004. I especially suspect deleting or replacing text. There's another (related?) bug new to Word 2004 that it won't delete full or multiple selected words with the backspace key, altho it can do single characters.
So, others who have had this happen: Were you running a program that required Rosetta? Were you editing text?
Apple: Do you have any insights?

    We may have a solution.
The Evernote menu icon re-appeared in my menu bar. I didn't notice it until... same crash.
    (It is very gone now.)
In case it helps, here's the dump.
But the system has been stable without that icon there, so I think that may be the solution.

  • Macbook pro early 2011 - overheat and crash with blue screen and glitches

    Hi
since last wednesday my MBP has started to freeze and then crash with bluescreen, glitches and so on...
Most of the time doesnt not restart with any command as is overheating as well.
I did a clean installation on friday night and i am now running mavericks and then again on sunday it start with all the above issue. At the moment i am able to restart only if i reset NVRAM each time, which i do not think is really safe to do it everytime.
    i also tried
    Macs Fan Control
    gfxCardStatus
to fix but they doesn't help.
I read many customers are now experiencing similar problems with this mac as the GPU Amd is faulty.
APPLE SHOULD RECALL AND REPLACE IT or will lose many custumers
I am now waiting to be seen at Genius bar on sunday, however i read about etrecheck in this related post
    http:/https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5081857?start=0&tstart=0
and meanwhile i want to hear your opinion...
    Looking forward

  • Each time I connect to my IBM computer it crashes with blue screen error message pops up. Apple say that it's my printer/camera drivers. The problem is with iTunes, it likes to play with all the ports on my comp and conflicts with prnt drivers. How to fix

Does anyone know how to fix this problem without disabling my printer. It's very frustrating. It's either I have my iPad or my printer. iTunes likes to play with the ports on my computer thereby causing a conflict with my printer drivers. Apple should fix this problem, I'm so annoyed.

When this problem first happened, I searched for threads and found a few.  See be;ow links:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502
Apple say that its a driver problem, but I've never had this problem before so I am not convinced. Another thread, which I can't seem to find, suggests that it is an apple problem - itunes plays with the ports on the company causing conflicts with existing drivers. I isolated the conflict to my new Samsung printer. I uninstalled the Samsung printer driver and then can successfully connect my ipad without the blue screen appearing.
It's not a windows problem. Windows is working fine. Only happens when Ipad is connected. Actually, this first happened after I installed the new version of itunes. I reget installing the new itunes version, but don't know how to reinstall the previous itunes version.

  • Ipad Crashes with blue screen and now wont turn on

After updating the ios 8.2.1 any app I would use, a blue screen would come up covering the whole screen then crash, I would have to restart, and do the whole thing all over again. I then thought to try to reset all settings but as soon as I opened the Settings app, the blue screen would come up and I would have to restart the ipad again. And now after many attempts my ipad will now not switch on. I can't connect it to the PC, nothing appears. And nothing happens when charging it.

    Hi there iroam_soljah,
I understand that your iPad is not responding when you attempt to power it up or charge it. You will want to use the following article for information on how to address this issue:

  • Hp3400 keeps crashing with blue screen with clean windows 7 64

    Hi,
A brand new hp3400 mt (with product number LH121EA#ABU) crashed during the initial setup process for win 7. Eventually I could boot to windows, but then it kept crashing. Since then, I have reformatted and reinstalled win 7 64, and downloaded and installed some drivers from your support site for all relevant hardware (I think), but not software.
I ran memtest on the ram and it is fine.
I can now boot to windows (although it took a number of runs through the installation process, with crashes occurring intermitently). I can navigate for a while, then things hang up (e.g. clicking Device Manager in Control Panel takes 4 - 5 minutes to open, if at all). The crashes occur randomly, e.g. when browsing the web or installing an update. After restart the crash recovery notification reports errors with BC Codes of 1a or 50 (if that's any use).
Please help! I'm at the limit of my knowledge now!

In that case you need to check with the Memory (RAM) and the Hard Disk Drive.

The best working solution at this time is to download and install Skype 6.14 and disable updates.  If you still get prompts to upgrade you can ignore them and the program should continue to function as it has not been retired as of yet.  Hopefully there will be a resolution in a future Skype update or an updated driver from HP that might resolve the issue.

  • Frequent IPad 32 GB air crash with blue screen

AAfter upgrading to ios 8 my iPad is not in usable condition... Not sure when it will crash......
hope Apple fixes the issue early....
is there a way to return to ios 7

    Hi .
    Have you  tried any maintenance?
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a restet.

  • Inspiron 15R N5010 Noise then crashes with blue screen and shuts down.

I have heard this is a common problem with dell laptops. And it has never been addressed to. I'm hoping to get a clear cut answer here.
The issue is already mentioned here by many users, and all over the web too.
    Please,
I would like to know if it can be fixed, or should I scrap my  Laptop, since its onboard graphics.
In case its a driver issue,
Can you also point me to a post where this matter has been addressed to successfully.
I've performed diagnostics  many times. After a few tries it gets the laptop going for a while. Then the problem appears again.
    Thanks

If it beeps then read this article:  HP BIOS beep codes.
Try this bootable memory diagnostic disk:  Download memtest86 iso file and burn it to disk using Imgburn.
    Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. Plug your PC back in a give it a go.
You might want to inspect your motherboard for heat damage using a flashlight.
