Seriously...?

A month or two ago I pondered buying a different smartphone to replace my aging BlackBerry 8530. I realise I am on a discontinued plan ($44.99 for 450 mins. and $30 for data) and also that I can only activate specific smartphones with the account I have. Obviously, I looked at a phone that was eligible. Just to be careful, I didn't buy it right off, but instead phoned VZ to make sure I could do what I was planning. They said to get the ESN of the device and phone them again to confirm. I did that, and they said it's not an eligible device, even though it was in fact on the list of eligible devices. I asked why, and they said it's because my account is provisioned for BlackBerry data services and they told me if I were to swap to a new phone, it would have to be a BlackBerry.
One of my friends has an old BlackBerry of the same model. He let me try its ESN and again, VZ rejected it.
What the **** is going on?

kc9pke wrote:
I don't see why the system would reject the ESN and tell me it's not even eligible for prepaid...
That's it right there - pre-paid - the ability to swap devices at will on a PRE PAID plan doesn't follow the same rules as a regular, post-paid account, phones are not interchangeable from pre-paid to post-paid and vice versa.  Also, being that the pre-paid options have changed, you will likely have to change to one of the current plans when you change devices.
This discussion may get more knowledgeable responses on the Pre-paid board where those with pre-paid accounts can better answer this....

  • WARRANTY null and void? Seriously??

    Hi all, new to this so please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong forum.
    I dropped my phone and cracked the screen - is it true that I now have no warranty at all because of this?? Seriously I now have a phone for a further 21 months of my contract and am not covered for anything going wrong??

    Yes - the warranty covers the potential for manufacturing defects that come to light within the warranty period. Accidental damage is not covered by any warranty on any product. Your household insurance may cover this type of loss, or your contract with your phone provider might include insurance, otherwise you'll need to fund the repair/replacement from your own pocket.

  • Serious Performance hit on RT (cFP 2120) using LV 8.5 compared to LV 8.2

    Hello,
    We have just finished a large project using LabView 8.2 and Compact FieldPoint (cFP) 2120 on a Windows XP Pro computer.
    The system developed controlled equipment that forms critical parts of a Concrete Plant here in Norway.
    2 Identical units whre installed controlling two almost (but not entirely) identical pieces of equipment.
    The project has been a great success, and used technologies such as: StateDiagrams (StateDiagram Toolkit) to describe the System Processes, Network Shared Variables to transfer approx. 50 different  pieces of non-critical information over WLAN to a LabView based Surveillance Program in a Control Room from both "machines".
    The CPU Load on the cFP was approx. 65 % which gives the ETS Realtime OS (RTOS) plenty of "room" to run its "maintenance threads".
    After the last installation, we decided to try to migrate the system to LabView 8.5 on another Computer running Windows Vista. The system ported nicely and run on our test cFP 2120 as well.
    We had done extensive performance / cPU Load tests on our 8.2 system, and new that in a particular setting the CPU Load was:
      *** 65% *** measured using the System Manager (disabling VI and Memory Monitioring).  (Absolutely max measured is 71 % when the system is running)
    When we did the same test on the cFP running the LV 8.5 compiled code and with the LV 8.5 software installed on the cFP, we where in for a chock:
    The CPU Load was *** 87% *** in the particular setting, and could run over 90%.
    This renders LV 8.5 useless for our controll task. A setback, as we had plan to port our current code using the Statechart Module that we had bought for LV 8.5.
    We also installed a VI to "Monitoring the CPU Usage of a LabVIEW Real-Time Target" found at this link:  http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/4713
    It turns oot that this VI gave us the same result as using the "System Manager" (if we summed the load for each priority), but also gave more info about the load at each priority.
    We of course did not run the System Manager at the same time, as this would cause a conflict: We either run the System Manager or the VI above. When the System Manager was run, the Vi above was
    disabled !
    We are running updating of the 50 Network Shared Variables in a Normal Priority Thread. The 9 StateDiagrams are each running in a Separate Thread started by including the VI for the StateDiagram in a  Timed Sequence with one frame: This gives all these Processes "Very High" Priorty and you can see that most of the work is done at this priorty level. The Very High Priorty level uses Single Process  Shared Variables with FIFO to send the variables to the Network Shared variables in the "Normal Priorty" Thread.
    The Shared Variabel Server is run on the PC in the Control Room and not on the cFP.
    Below you can see the Installed Components and the Performance Result for the cFP when Running configured for LV 8.2 and 8.5.
    For LV 8.5, the performance of each Priority Level is degraded with the same percentage (approx 30%) which is really serious.
    National Instruments Engineers: Please help identify / fix this problem and give us a Time frame for when the problem can be fixed!

    Hello,
    I have reproduced the problem in a minimalistic test application !
    Download the test from this link: http://objective.no/gostemp/lv_8_5_probleml.zip
    This is how the test looks: http://objective.no/gostemp/LV-8-2_8_5_Test_01_vi.jpg
    The ZIP file contains the following files:
    a) LV-8-2_8_5_Test_01.vi    -  The test VI itself
    b) SK1_Host_Remote_Panel_Shared_Variables.lvlib   -   The Network Shared Variables that I use only one of in this test (SK1_Error_Code)
    c) Interprosess_Data.lvlib  -  The Single Process Shared variables that I use only one of in this test (Reported_Error_Code)
    I have not included a Project File and you need a Compact FieldPoint to test this. I have a cFP 2120.
    Now to the intersting figures:
    Compiled under LabView 8.2 this application runs with 21 % CPU Load as measured by the System Manager on the cFP 2120.
    Compiled under LabView 8.5 this application runs with 42 % CPU Load as measured by the System Manager on the cFP 2120.
    This is a dramatic degradation of Performance !
    I have not yet investigated if removing the Shared Variables will change this.
    NI: Please Help locating this problem !
    The only thought I have is this: Does LV 8.5 take care of the change of the Shared variables when the two .vlib libraries are moved to a 8,5 project ?

  • Error Message: Sorry, a serious error has occurred that...

    This seems to be a common problem, however, I have not found a fix. I am somewhat technologically savvy, but limited! Listed below are my specs and details to the problem.
    Software- Premiere Pro (Version 5.03) Recently updated
    OS- WIN7 Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 3.00GHz 4.00GB RAM
    Footage used- all types
    Error message text-
    Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires, Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your project.
    The problem-
    When attempting to start PP it allows me to start a new project, select setting, and sequences. However, as the program begins to start up the new project the error pops up. The only option is to click ok, which in turn locks up the program.
    Also any files that I have previous created also will not open properly.
    Also, I have recently lost a drive that contained many of my old PP projects. I've read that some people have this problem when losing a drive that once related to possible PP preferences and scratch disks...once again I am limited on understanding how that all works.
    I have restarted, cold boots, warm boots....clean uninstall, clean reinstall of PP and all components, updated chipset, display adaptor is up-to-date (NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GE) ...also I am an administrator of the workstation
    **Through my many failed attempts from reading forums I have also at sometimes received a RunTime Error R6025 (pure virtual function call)
    I have no 3rd party effects
    not using Mecury to my knowledge.?

    Has it worked OK in the past?  If so, try System Restore.
    While your computer might meet Adobe's minimum requirements, it is way underpowered to run Premiere Pro properly.

  • Error Message:  Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down.

    Hi. I'm having another serious problem with CS4 (the version that comes with CS5 when you don't have 64 bit capability. I just finished a project, had saved it, and then had switched over to Adobe Encoder to create a finished flash video (which worked perfectly). I shut down CS4, went home, tried to restart the main project to create a video from the same project (wanted to make an mpeg version as well) and got the following error message:
    Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project. Then the system shuts down.
    Not only can I not open the project I was working on, I cannot open any of my prior projects without receiving the same error.
    Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue and how to resolve it?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    By the way, is everyone else having the same amount of problems with this software? I've never had any software that has had so many problems from the beginning. My opinion of this software and Adobe in general has gone down substantially.

  • Non-English characters not displaying correctly - Serious Issue

    My corporate email is on a Lotus Domino server with Lotus Traveler installed.
    I have set my PlayBook (with OS 2) up to syncronize with the corporate email trough Active Sync (see http://alturl.com/qh3nn), which works perfectly.
    I have however noticed that in some emails special non-english characters are displayed correctly but in some emails special non-english characters are displayed as a black diamond with a question mark inside.
    This is of course a serious issue as most non English speaking countries use some special characters.
    When trying to understand this problem how can I analyse the emails and see what character set is being used?
    And of course better; has someone solved this?

    I am having the same problem. Is there any update available?

  • Serious connection pool problem on Tomcat

    Hi,
    We are deploying our JSF creator-made app onto Tomcat 1.5. We set up our JNDI datasource on Tomcat (using the i-net driver ).
    Initially the pages load ok but after a short period of time we are getting these errors:
    Initialization Failure: javax.faces.FacesException: org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot get a connection, pool exhaustedWe believe that somehow the Creator-generated code is NOT freeing up connections in the connection pool.
    We think that when the afterRenderResponse() methods in the beans call rowset.close() this is NOT returning the connections to the pool. Can someone, hopefully a Sun Engineer confirm that the rowset.close() code in afterRenderResponse() returns the connection behind the rowset to the connection pool.
    Could this be a driver issue? We are using the i-net driver not the DataDirect one, but this should implement the full API.
    This is a very serious problem for us.
    regards,
    john

    do you have any example code you could post? I have a Spring/JSC tutorial on this forum. Just search for Spring and you should find it. It you need something more, I'll try to give you some help...time provided.
    am i
    right in thinking that you use the forms designer to
    lay out your pages and just put your own stuff in the
    bean constructor?Close...but not everything goes in the constructor.
    >
    One thing that may have caused a problem is we have
    just noticed that in one of our most commonly hit
    pages this line:
    dataTable1Model.setDataCacheKey("com.sun.datacache.my_
    page.my_rowset");
    featured the WRONG "my_page" jsp page but the correct
    rowset name "my_rowset". The page DID load correctly
    and run correctly, though. Could this cause problems
    with connection pooling? Anyone?I wouldn't think so, but it depends on how Creator builds the code.

    Okay, Let's assume that Apple is indeed THAT foolish.......How does one get the photos from the phone to the PC and still use them?

    The photos are still on your phone, and if enabled in your Photo Stream. They are not automatically transferred to your computer when syncing.

  • I have 3rd generation iPad retina and it seriously overheats?

    I have I pad 3rd generation retina display and purchased this after 2nd generation was stolen and found overseas (had no home insurance) as recently was going through a bad 24 year marriage divorce and had to stop working a month later due to illness cancer.  I had to use last of savings to replace my sons iPad. As I was ill I did not really use the new I pad for at least six months my son who it belongs to was 11 years old and as I put it in leather case and had rules about charging whilst using iPad ( meaning He Was Not Allowed To USE whilst on charge) I did not notice the problem in the beginning although after that noticed iPad 3 seriously heated whilst charging and also prolonged use this has became more and more of a problem lately to the stage where you can't use it for more than 20 mins without actually hurting your hands. My granddaughter who owns her own iPad 2 picked up my iPad recently what was charging in my sons bedroom without a case or cover and she got that much of a shock when she picked it up that dropped it and cracked the screen. Apart from that her eight finger tips were red and on one hand tiny blisters were apparent on two fingers surely this is a problem. And as not in warranty this does should not affect my statuary rights as a consumer under consumer laws can anyone help ?

    Hi Mich10,
    Your situation is definitely a problem, you have my sympathies. I can pretty much be sure that Apple will at least want to hear about this. I don't know what they will do but any iPad that overheats enough to burn someone they want to know about.
    Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the iPad in to an Apple retail store or service provider. Tell them exactly what happend. Apple is always concerned about the safety of their customers.

  • Form processing using getParameter Names() and Values() Seriously confused

    Hi all,
    I have an HTML table containing multiple <INPUT name='Flows[]' ...> to create arrays. However, when I try to process the code in my servlet it gets ignored and no excpetions are thrown. I know I must be doing something wrong but for the life of me I cannot see what or where it is.
    Enumeration <String> paramNames = request.getParameterNames() ;
    double dFlows[] = null ;
    while (paramNames.hasMoreElements())
         try
              String pName = paramNames.nextElement() ;

                   dFlows = new double[nParams] ;
                   for (p = 0; p < nParams; p++)
                        dFlows[p] = Double.parseDouble(pValues[p]) ;
              else
                   System.out.println(String.format("%s != Flows[]", pName)) ;
         catch (Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace(System.out) ;
    }The output I get in the log file is :
    Parameter Name : Flows[] : Length 7
    Flows[] != Flows[]
    If the log is to believed then the error is in the if (pName == "Flows[]") but the log proves this to be wrong!
    Can anyone help me out with this, I really am seriously confused.
    Bill Moo

              if (pName == "Flows[]")
              if (pName.equals("Flows[]"))But why on earth are you looping through all the parameters when you already know the name? Use request.getParameter("Flows[]");

  • Serious fixes needed by RIM for PB/My Review/I'll review your free app

    Hey there guys
    So it was just yesterday that I received my dev PlayBook. So far, it's going pretty well. I do like BlackBerry's new platform and it looks like it has some great potential.
    Now, I know it's just a new platform, but wow some of these things are already slightly painful. They almost make me want to sell this to go get a Honeycomb tablet! Luckily I will try hold out.
    Bad things:
    - I just received a new update today with Video chat. Already, the update has actually seemed to do good and bad things to the device. Some parts of the device seem more choppy.
    - My browser is just driving me mad. I've done reset after reset and close after close, but pages keep often half-loading, getting stuck 3/4 loading, clicking 'login' on these forums on the device and it stalls on that webpage, and sometimes the app crashes (seems to have only been noticable after the most recent update).
    - Apps: really can't wait for that Android player, there really isn't that much to do on here just yet
    - Feedback button or similar? Unless I've missed it, RIM has released these products to REAL consumers (not just developers like us who generally tend to not worry about bugs as much), and if they release a brand new platform that is bound to have quite a few bugs (and let me tell you, it does), they really should have a feedback or error report button. Especially with this browser thing
    - Those email and calendar apps! I really hope they are coming within the next 60 days It's kind of strange that they managed to add video chat and an official Facebook app before a native email app.
    - File browser: I've got a lot of downloads here that I can't really delete, like PDF's. I don't know whether there's some big button that I'm missing but it's a little annoying Please bring a file manager or something (if it's not developable by developers, haven't looked into that personally)
    - Autocorrect: the keyboard looks and seems quite nice at first. Until you realise it doesn't have an autocorrect like the iPad does. It's fairly hard to be completely accurate on a tablet keyboard in the first place, let alone a 7" one, so please pretty please do away with the red underline and bring in some live-correction-action
    - That power button. I think mine is raised but it's still a pain in the *@&@#(@#*&#$&@.
    Good things:
    - Apart from the Browser being an absolute sh*t and half-loading and quitting on me all the time, it's quite decent. Nice rendering, Flash is brilliant and it's quite a good experience. But I seriously hate it right now because it just doesn't work.
    - Hardware (except for that power button). The specs are brilliant, design is nice, build quality is great, speakers are good, brightness is good, battery life currently seems fairly decent, and it only got good comments when I showed colleagues.
    - The case. Sorry, but this is very cool. Why can't all brands do this? That little sleeve is awesome
    - QNX, apart from some of it's bugs and it's somewhat lonely App World, is working quite nicely. Multitasking is very fluid and it is a size of relief.
    - Size (good and bad). I love the size as I can really take it anywhere, and hopefully use it as a personal calendar/notetaker/slate kind of thing (when CALENDAR functionality comes ), but mind you some things, like the browser experience and keyboard, would be nicer on a bigger screen.
    - Most included apps: the included apps are well done and quite nice. Word to Go would do great with Dropbox integration (please? ) and a file manager would be awesome.
    At the moment, there seems to be more negatives about the PB than positives. I couldn't imagine myself buying this until it had matured with stability, apps and Android players etc. But other than that, I like where it's going, just please RIM, change a few things as soon as you can, it's been hard enough avoiding iPad and other tablets since 2010
    DEVELOPER PART: Also, if you have a free app and you'd like me to review it or give you some feedback, feel free to let me know and I'll give it a go.
    PS: let me know if you experience anything of the same calibre, especially interested in the browser bit. It's the most used app that I use on any device and it's absolutely driving me insane with it's instability on my PlayBook.
    PSv2: Apologies for the smilies-overload, lol.

    Is there a question in here about Adobe AIR development for the PB? There are other forums that this kind of post is more appropriate. If you have specific issues, please report them to RIM via their issues database so they can be reproduced and resolved. The PB general forum is a good source to look for solutions and provide recommendations.

    NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT      HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    I am querying a view in sqlserver 2000 via an odbc database link.
    When I query a 26 character wide column in the view in sql developer, it will only return up to 13 characters of the data.
    When I query the exact same view in the exact same sql server database from the extact same oracle database using the exact same odbc database link using sql navigator, I get the full 26 characters worth of data.
    It also works just fine from the sql command line tool from 10g express.
    Apparently, sql developer is confused about how to handle multi-byte data. If you ask it the length of the data in the column, it will tell you 26, but it will only show you 13.
    I have found a VERY PAINFUL work around, to do a cast(column_name as varchar2(26) when I query it. But I've got hundreds of views and queries...

    In all other respects, the settings I have appear to be working correctly.
    I can enter multi-byte characters into the sql worksheet to create a package, save it, and re-open the package with the multi-byte characters still visible.
    I'm using a fallback directory for my jdk with the correct font installed, so I can see and edit multi-byte data in the data grids.
    In this case, I noticed the problem on a column that only contains the standard ascii letters and digits.
    Environment->Encoding = UTF-16
    All the fonts are set to a font that properly displays western and ge'ez characters. The font has been in use for years, and is working correctly in all other circumstances.
    The Database->NLS Parameters tab under sql developer preferences shows:
    language: American
    territory : American
    sort: binary
    comp: binary
    length: char (I've also tried byte)
    If there are other settings that you think might be relevant, please let me know.
    I've done some more testing. I created an oracle table with a single column and did an insert into ... select from statement across the database link. The correct, full-length data appeared in the oracle table.
    So, it's not a matter of whether the data is being returned or not, it is. It is simply not being displayed correctly. It appears that sql developer is making some unwarranted decisions about the datatable across the database link when it decides to display the data, because sql plus and sql navigator have no such issues.
    This is really a very serious problem, because if I cannot trust the data the tool shows me, I cannot trust the tool.
    It is also an invitation to make an error based upon the erroneous data display.

  • Mid 2013 Macbook Air serious wifi issues

    Okay, so I am basically turning to these forums because I am out of options at this point and am seriously considering selling my Macbook Air. I have a mid-2013 Mabook Air. My Macbook has been an incredibly dependable and efficient laptop until around late August time of 2014. I started having minor wifi connectivity issues (before Yosemite was even out). The problems started with random wifi dropouts, I would get an "icmp timeout" error. I tried dozens upon dozens of fixes for it, from resetting preferences and configurations in the Mac terminal before bootup, deleting the keychain, preferences, I even bought a new freaking wireless router and modem for over $300 bucks. My problems only got WORSE.
    My problems still persisted. I moved on to the Yosemite install. Now this past month or two, my Macbook in terms of wifi has become utterly useless. The other night I tried playing my Macbook and it would just constantly disconnect from the wifi. Today I thought I would try reinstalling the operating system and wiping the hard drive. I am in a brand new installation of Yosemite. Now I can't connect to my router at all, I just get a "connection timeout" error" when trying to connect.
    Let me say I am an IT professional now and I have tried EVERYTHING in my knowledge of computers to fix the connection problems on this ridiculous laptop. I scoured these forums for hours, tried tons of solutions and suggestions on the web. Below is a complete list:
    1) changed system settings and files, basically all the stupid things, the keychain, I've changed settings in terminal, I've reset the cache, I even reinstalled Yosemite entirely while wiping the hard drive, I thought a fresh OSX install would fix any potential system file errors or corrupted areas, guess I was wrong
    2) The macbook is not near any other wireless devices and is only 15 feet away from the router
    3) I've tried multiple wifi channels and spectrums on my router and even bought a new router and modem with updated firmware which did not fix the problem
    4) Tried turning bluetooth off, didn't do crap
    5) Nothing else on my network has problems on wifi, and I can turn everything else off and this Macbook will still NOT connect to the wifi

    I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

  • Home Phone Service via Verizon Wireless needs some SERIOUS rethinking!

    Has anyone else signed up for home phone service over Verizon Wireless?
    Here in LA, they offered a $19.99/month deal using the wireless service - a box provides the service, and you plug your home phone in. The service is adequate, but somebody forgot to think about how home phones work. I tried to get my billing set up through my bank, and after getting no notice for three weeks, I got a message in my email box that my bill was delinquent, and I owed a late fee. I had tried to set up the billing via My Verizon, but could never get a password to work. I finally got a phone number to call, and they sent me a new password via text message - to a home phone with no text capabilities. After hearing and seeing nothing for another two weeks, I called again, and they told me they'd sent the message. I had to remind them that this was a home phone - no texts. So they offered to send me a letter with a new password, within 7-10 ten days. It arrived two weeks later, and didn't work. Each of these phone calls took about an hour, and I still didn't have a connection.
    I put the bills (now up to two delinquent cycles) on my credit card, just to bring thins current, and got one more password. This time I called BEFORE trying it, and with the assistance of a more determined tech, got an ID and password combination to work. I can now see my bill. I still don't know if the autopay will work, and I have no idea if there's any way to get a notice that the bill wasn't paid.
    I cancelled my AT&T service because of its cost, but at least its billing worked. Verizon has some serious rethinking to do about how it's billing system works for home users. And they didn't lock me into billing hell for two years.
    The topper is, today, I got a notice from Verizon that I've been delinquent in returning a refurbished instrument I never received, billed to a phone number I don't have. And of course there's no phone number to call to straighten it out.
