Server 2012 Standard Edition network teaming issue at bootup

I have a Windows server 2012 x64 standard edition server (not R2) using two Intel I210AT nic's on an ASUS P9D-X motherboard.  They are setup in a team using the Microsoft teaming.  No special options, latest updates and the latest Intel drivers.
The team is setup in switch independent mode and connected with quality cat6 cables to a Cisco 3600 switch.  No special options on the ports of the switches, no LACP or trunking, just standard unconfigured ports.
The problem we have is when the server is rebooted the team will not communicate with the network.  If we unplug one network cable communication begins.  We can then plug the cable back in and both
ports work and communicate normally.
This issue is serious as it requires physical action on every restart.
We have tried deleting the team and recreating it and we get the same results.  Is there some specific change that needs to be made to make this work or is this possibly a known bug?

May be problem on Cisco side, Cisco is very clever, could assessed network traffic as a problem and close the port. When OS is running, then NIC Teaming working fine, but when you boot up server, "BIOS not running with NIC Teaming", in this moment
may occur problem on Cisco side.
I recommend, if you use Cisco, configure NIC Teaming in LACP mode and configure your two ports on Cisco to LACP, it's better way.

  • Is it possible to install SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition on a Windows Server 2012 Standard Which is installed on a Virtual Machine that is created by Hyper-V?

    Hi
I have recently bought a Virtual Machine from a data center and installed a Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition on it. As I tried to install the SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition, the data center administrator denied me to do this telling me it is not possible
to install any licensed Microsoft software on a Windows installed on virtual machine created by Hyper-V. It was really strange for me! I wanna know if this is true.
    Thanks Everybody

    Hi Farid,
For SQL server running on virtual server please refer to following article :

  • How to install device cals on Windows Server 2012 standard edition

Hello i have a windows server 2012 standard edition licence that i have taken on rent from an ISP.
i have created a domain controller on that.
By default only two users can use remote desktop to the server simultaneously.
My Requirement is 20 users can use remote desktop to the server at the same time. For that i have purchased 20 Delive CALs licences like volume licencing.
i have the licence number noted on the paper.
do i need to install remote desktop services first etc ?
Could anyone guide me step by step how can i install or configure so that 20 users can use remote desktop on the same time.

    Hi,
    Any update about the issue?
I would agree with others, you need to install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses.
There are three methods by which you can install Remote Desktop Services client access licenses (RDS CALs) onto your license server:
    • Install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses Automatically
    • Install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses by Using a Web Browser
    • Install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses by Using the Telephone
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725890.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Then you can install both Per User and Per Device CALs onto the same license server.

  • Link to download Sql Server 2012 "Standard Edition"

We have purchased Sql Server 2012 “Standard” edition license. Looking for the link to download of installation software for 2012 “Standard” edition. Have tried
a lot but could only found - the “enterprise” evaluation copy.
Looking for urgent help on this. Thanks.

    Thanks for the update.
    1. Would like to check if it is possible to download Sql Server 2012 “Standard" Edition straight away rather than doing a two step install?
    2. Assuming we do a two step install - during upgrade once we specify the license key, would it ask whether we need to change edition to standard/ enterprise or it automatically determines the edition based on the value of the license key?
    Hi,
1.Do you have MSDN subscription ? You can download from MS link directly if you have one. Please ask the vendor who provided you with License he would be best person to call.
    2. On license page you just have to enter license key that's it , after that SQL Server just knows what it has to do. It does not asks you anything about license it just proceeds

  • Assign 2 of Windows Server 2012 Standard edition licensing question

I'm new at this and I have bought Windows 2012 Standard with 5 CALs back in January from Microsoft store on the Internet using as the host. There is Windows 2008 R2 installed as the virtual machine on the host. Few hours ago I have decided to buy another
license with 5 CALs to upgrade those even that I did need two license of Windows 2012 Standard anyway to support 4 physical processor as my server have quad core processor.
The question here that I need to ask is how do I assign 2 license of Windows Server 2012 Standard edition on the host to lift the limit and that up to 4 VMs will be allowed or does it automatically do that after upgrading to Windows 2012 Standard in
the virtual machine even that 5 CALs plus 5 CALs equal 10 CALs are done automatically?

    Hello,
    You have 2 questions here:
    1. How can I stack multiple OS licence in order to have more virtualization rights (more VMs) running on that host?
    2. How can I stack Windows CAL licence from OEM.
    Answers are:
    1. You only have to licence the original licence on the physical host. You can use the same license key for all 4 VMs or use 2 VM key from the first package and 2 VM keys from the second licence package you just bought.
There is nowhere to register those licence, except one by one inside the VM themselves.
You have to keep all licence document in case of control by Microsoft.
    2. Windows CAL allows a user (or a computer) to connect to an unlimited number of Windows Server within your company network. You have 10 CAL so you can have up to 10 users or computers in your company that will connect to your servers (even if you have 1.000
    servers)
There is nowhere to register those licence, except one by one inside the VM themselves.
You have to keep all licence document in case of control by Microsoft.
    Regards
PS: The only licence that require maintenance and central registration are Remote Desktop Licences.
MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2010 MCTS: Lync Server 2010, Configuring MCSE
That is what I thought as I was told before even seen licensing details except a direction of how to attach the second license and I had to make sure. Thank you

  • SharePoint 2013 Enterprise and SQL Server 2012 Standard edition vs. Enterprise - feature question

I can't seem to find any clear answers to the implications of installing SQL Server 2012 standard edition vs. enterprise in regards to SharePoint 2013.
I understand that to get many of the features you need Enterprise edition of SQL 2012; but, what I can't figure out is if the backend SharePoint SQL 2012 is standard; but, the PowerPivot/SSRS server is Enterprise will we still get the features?
If we have 3 tier SharePoint farm, one of those tiers is for the SQL Server database backend.  If that SQL instance is 2012 standard and we add another server to the farm w/ SQL 2012 Enterprise to handle the tabular models, PowerPivot, and SSRS in integrated
mode will we still get the features?
Or, can we (should we) install Enterprise 2012 as the SharePoint database backend and let that instance triple down as also the PowerPivot and SSRS instance?
    The Degenerate Dimension

    Hi MMilligan,
SQL Server 2012 Standard is not supported PowePivot for SharePoint . In addition, SQL Server 2012 Standard is also not support some Reporting Services Features.

  • Is Cross Subnet Failover supported in SQL Server 2012 Standard edition?

    Hi,
I'm trying to find out if Cross Subnet Failover is support in SQL Server 2012 Standard edition? From the documentation I can find it appears that AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances is supported for two nodes but there is no definitive answer regarding Cross
Subnet failover. Just trying to figure out if it is possible or if I need enterprise or move my replication nodes on the same subnet.
    Thanks David

Sorry chaps, found the answer :-(

    Rick,
Great to find your response and excellent reference /article (WIKI publishing, your writing). I have followed your options accordingly to Connect or establish connection with SQL server through client machine ( using IP address and network) but failed and
shows the time out error as  bellow screen shoot for your assessment.
    SQL SERVER MANAGER OPTION:
-SQL server services:- I got five options as find bellow pic. Except  SQL server Agent rest of the options are running well.
As I mentioned i am running SQL server-2012 ( Express edition), so i am not sure, is it a mandatory provision to not run, So please feedback in that option.
IP Config: I have tested IP address ( IPv4) and AZAD-PC, 127.0.0.1 those are responding well ( I have't yet set-up IPv6) including Ping testing.
Using SQL Server Management Studio on the computer running SQL Server, connect to the instance of SQL Server. In Object Explorer, expand Management, expand SQL Server Logs, and then double-click the current log.
In the Log Viewer, click the Filter button on the toolbar. In the Message contains text box, type server is listening on, click Apply filter, and then click OK.
I have configured accordingly on Management Studio.
    Enable Protocols:
I have done that and also set-up IP address (IPv4) in all of the IP address options and port no 1433
    Testing TCP/IP Connectivity:
Yes, it was success through all the option except ( IPv6)
Testing a Local Connection on Client Machine:
    Yes, Working fine.
    Testing the Connection:
Failed. I have tried to connect to my machine ( Management studio) using the server name:AZAD-PC\SQLEXPRESS:- failed shows the error no.26, But connected using:AZAD-PC
    on ( Management Studio).
Please provide your feedback to resolve the issue.

  • Licensing options for Server 2012 Standard Edition

    I am working a proposal to a new client. Currently they have a single physical server, and 15 workstations, connected to AD;
Server 2012 standard running hyper-V - evaluation (and not attached to the domain)
On it are two virtual machines -
Domain Controller 2008 32bit - license is activated.
    2nd server 2008 R2 64bit - evaluation  (attached to the domain)
If they purchase a 2012 Server Standard license, with 15 user cals, I should be able to activate the two unlicensed servers?
Mark Smed, NPA Network Support Technician [email protected] Northern Computer l Your trusted partner. Ph: 250.762.7753 Ext. 1803 www.northerncomputer.ca

...  If you make the host a domain controller and run Hyper-V you lose your "free" VM instances...
It is my understanding that you lose one of your VM instances, not both. I was led to believe that the purpose of this restriction is to prevent someone from getting a three-for-two deal on licenses, not to lock them out of guest privileges entirely.
but in you instance the host is not licensed and one of the vm's are not licensed so you still need to get a license for the host however you go about it.
This is not quite true as worded. It's true that you have to get a license for the host in general, because Windows Server licenses always apply to a specific piece of hardware, never to a virtual machine. However, it's not necessarily true that you have
to license the management operating system (I think the licensing document calls this the physical OSE, or something like that).
If you have purchased one license of Windows Server Standard 2012 or 2012 R2 non-OEM, then you are licensed to run a maximum of two virtual instances of that same server operating system version/edition or lower on a single host with up to 2 physical CPUs.
You are also allowed to run that same operating system version/edition or lower as the management operating system without purchasing an additional license as long as it runs nothing but Hyper-V Server and services needed manage/maintain its own virtual machines.
If you do anything else in the management OS that provides services to other systems (like ADDS), then one of the guest licensing privileges is lost to cover the management OS. Any OEM licensing may have its own restrictions.
For licensing questions, it is always best to contact an authorized Microsoft reseller and ask to speak to a licensing expert. They go through training specifically for this. The call is usually free. The fines for license violations most
certainly are not. "Read it on a forum" is not good audit defense.

  • SQL Server 2012 standard edition on 2 node cluster

I have an environment with three SQL instances running an application. Two of the instances are enterprise edition and one is standard. I am looking to move all instances up to SQL Server 2012 and hoping to put them on a 3 node Windows Failover Cluster.
I understand that standard edition is limited to two nodes. What I want to know is what my options are?
Can install standard edition on the cluster but only on two of the three nodes?
Do I need to create a second Windows Cluster? Is this even possible?
Regards, Matt Bowler MCITP, My Blog

Can install standard edition on the cluster but only on two of the three nodes?
Yes. That's possible. SQL Setup would block you to add third node. It doesn't check how many nodes we have in windows cluster.
