Server hangs with queue based printing

We have a Netware 6.5 SP1 server used for queue based printing with HP
Print Servers. However very often queues do not respond and we re-start the
server so that queues will be operational.
Will service pack 2 will sove this problem? Is there any issues for
deployment of SP2

  • Queue Based Printing with Netware 6.5

I have just picked up a client who just upgraded to Netware for small
business 6.5...They want a HP Laser Jet 4m plus installed...They still
want to use queue based printing...I went to HPs website and saw that Web
Jetadmin is bye bye...First off, is that true, second off, how to I set
up the print queue....I set it up in NDS but it doesn't seem to
    work..maybe it's because it doesn't know what IP address..Please
    advise...Thank you.

My situation isn't quite the same as yours, so what I tell you
    now may not apply.
We are a NetWare 4.11 network with IPX protocol loaded on the
servers. We use standard print queues, not NDPS.
To set up a new printer to a print queue, I follow this procedure:
    First, create the Queue:
    1. Open NetWare Administrator (NWADMN32.EXE).
    2. Select the container into which you wish to place your objects.
    3. From the tools menu, choose Print Services Quick Setup (non NDPS).
    4. Name your PS, P and Q objects as you wish, and specify a volume
and server upon which you wish the queue files to reside.
    Now, configure the Printer:
    5. Open WebJetAdmin, and double-click on the printer you wish to set.
    6. From the drop-down menu, choose Configuration.
    7. Choose the Network Configuration category.
    8. If you wish, you may specify your Ethernet Frame Type, or leave
    it on Auto.
    9. Ensure that IPX is enabled as a Protocol Stack.
    10. Under NDS configuration, enter the Print Server object name you
    specified earlier.
    11. Choose your Tree.
    12. Browse to the context in which you created your PS object.
Once you apply those settings, and restart the print server, it
    should service the queue.
You could also try to find an older version of HP's Install Network
Printer Wizard. I use version 3.06 and it works perfectly. This
will create all the NDS objects for you, configure the printer, and
add it as an available printer on your workstation, all at the same
time. Newer versions of the software do not support NetWare.
I hope this has been of some use to you, and anyone who finds this
message in the future (hello to you, person reading in the future).

  • HP LaserJet 2420n and Queue Based Printing?

I'm looking at a new workgroup printer and am leaning towards the HP
    LaserJet 2420n
The price is about right, I'm sticking with HP, and this seems to be the
replacement for the 2100, 2200, and 2300 series which I liked a lot.
It has a built in JetDirect, although I can't find which model.
    HP's site says this:
    Compatible Network Operating Systems:
Via HP Jetdirect print servers: Microsoft Windows 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000,
    XP, XP 64-Bit, Server 2003; Novell NetWare 3.2, 4.2, 5.x, 6.x; Apple Mac OS
8.6 and later; Red Hat Linux 6.x and later; SuSE Linux 6.x and later; HP-UX
    10.20, 11.x; Solaris 2.5x, 2.6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (SPARC systems only); IBM AIX
    3.2.5 and later; MPE-iX, Terminal server/Citrix
Note that NetWare 4.2 (and so also 4.11) is listed.
That is the only mention of NetWare I can find about this printer. Does
anyone out there have one already? Can it be used with Queue Based (non-
NDPS) Printing? Does the built in JetDirect support this natively?
    Thanks for your help,
    AZC

I just installed one of these on our network with queue bases services using
the web interface and it worked, once I figured out how to declare the
    context for the queue.

  • Unable to print to Sharp MFP using Queue based printing

    Help
I am testing some Sharp MFP's and am unable to get them working using QUEUE based printing.
    Everything is ok with NDPS.
I have setup the Printserver, printer and queue in NW ADMIN.
The printer server is logged into the Netware 6.5 server, I can see in the monitor screen.
When I setup my printer on the XP client and send a test job I can see it in the queue in NW ADMIN.
But not job is delivered to the printserver.
Reading some strings it suggest problems with 8.7 E Directory.
Can anyone help a Netware novice?

Question is: why? If it works with NDPS then use NDPS and if you need a
queue for anything, then just have the NDPS-printer servcice it.

  • Queue based printing stopped after 6.5 upgrade

I had several print queues sitting on vol1 of a server, and after I upgraded
the server from Netware 6.0 to Netware 6.5 we lost access to them. Now when
I try to do a capture to that printer queue, I can click on browse and find
the queue, but when I click on capture it says "The queue could not be
found. Make sure you typed the path correctly and try again."
I then tryed to create a new queue, but I get the same problem... I can't
capture it. I tried createing a new queue on some of my 6.0 server and got
the same thing. I finally created a queue on one of my clustered volumes,
    and that works.
I would like to be able to create a print queue on vol1 of my 6.5 server.
Any idea how to get this to work again?
    Thanks.

  • "Application authentication required. Incorrect method call." on server start with Queues

    Hi people!
I am using a message-driven EJB listening on a queue.
Everytime a start the server, the server deploys the enterprise
application with the MDB and the queue, and then gives this error
    message:
"Application authentication required. Incorrect method call."
    What am I missing?
Here are more details: The server is in fact CFMX6.1 in
standalone installation and I am using the hidden JRun inside it.
Here is an extract of ejb-jar.xml:
    <message-driven>
    <ejb-name>ij.portal.EventExecutor</ejb-name>
    <ejb-class>ij.portal.EventExecutor</ejb-class>
    <transaction-type>Container</transaction-type>

    <destination-type>javax.jms.Queue</destination-type>
    <!--Durable or NonDurable-->
    <subscription-durability>Durable</subscription-durability>
    </message-driven-destination>

    </message-driven>
A part of the jrun-ejb-jar.xml is:

    <client-id>MDBSubscriber</client-id>
    </message-driven-subscription>
    </message-driven>
Finally, here is the jrun-resources.xml that defines the
    queue:

    </jrun-resources>
What am I doing wrong? I should add that the queue and the
MDB actually work. I just want to get rid of the error message.
I have found out that the error message comes from the class
    jrun.jms.wrapper.enterprise.JRunConnectionFactoryWrapper, method
createQueueConnection, when instance variable m_useContainerAuth is
    false.

I dont think you should it on server-side - you can do it in client side logic. Start playing live stream - if no data is coming - i think you can use ns.time for checking this - then switch to recorded file play.

  • Server Hangs with no Exception Thrown

Thank you to phyzome for sugesting i use a more descriptive subject.
We are running a resin server with Java 1.3.
I am programming in Java 1.4.
I have had 2 instances where my program called a method that wasn't supported in 1.3 and the server didn't throw an exception. I'm not positive but that's what it looks like.
    Problem 1) Asked a GregorianCalendar object X.getTimeInMillis().
    Problem 2) Asked for String.split().
In the code there was proper error handling but the exception was never thrown.
    Any thoughts on this?
Really the question is, If you write code and want it to be portable, how can you write it so that it will fail gracefully on it's new platform? I know that I can put a test in the code to verify that it's running on the right version but why would the server just sit there?
    Thanks again.
ps - I have since worked around the problems.

  • SMB Share with Access Based Enumeration & Mac OSX 10.8/10.9

    Hello,
I've been working on a bit of a problem related to some SMB Shares on Windows Server 2012 with Access Based Enumeration with Mac OSX 10.8 & 10.9.
Basically, we have one network share that mounts for all of our Students & Faculty on campus. Then, based on which security group the user is inside of in Active Directory, they gain access and visibility to different folders. (Basically, if they are members of the graphic design department, they get access to the Graphic Design's folder). All of that is working fine, no problems. From there we have 3 folders that branch off. We have a Distribution, an Open, and a Dropbox folder.
Distribution is setup as a spot for instructors to have full access, students have read access, They're able to drop files into this locations, to distribute them to their students. This folder is working fine, no problems.
Open is setup with everyone read/write access across the board. This folder is setup for students to share data to each other, work on projects, etc. This folder is working as intended, no problems.
Dropbox is the only folder we're having trouble with, i'm assuming because it's settings are the most complex out of the three. The purpose of the drop box is for students to have read/write control over their own content, but not others, and instructors to have read/write over this entire folder.
Now that I've laid out our Setup, the problem we've encountered, is ONLY occurring inside of the Dropbox folder. When I try to Drag/Drop OR Copy/Paste from another location on the computer into the Dropbox folder, I get a permission error. HOWEVER, if I have a file open, and I click "save as" browse to the dropbox folder, I can save the file into that location without any trouble. Also, on our windows computers, with the same exact users, drag/drop & Copy/Paste work normally.
    Things I've Tried:
Disabling the .DS_Store - I figured in the drop box, the .DS_Store would be created by the first user who copied a file in, then subsequent users would not have access to the .DS_Store.
CIFS/SMB1 - I've read that SMB2 can cause some trouble while connecting to SMB Shares, so I tried both connecting via CIFS, and also by forcing back to SMB1, with no fix.
Am I missing something with this? I've read a lot about people having trouble connecting to SMB Shares, but for us it had not been a problem up until this point. Does anyone know what a possible fix might be for this? I'm sifting through internet searches right now, trying to find a solution, however MOST of the responses I see are regarding the two things I've already tried.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • OSX 10.8 and SMB Shares with Access Based Enumeration.

    Hello,
I've been working on a bit of a problem related to some SMB Shares on Windows Server 2012 with Access Based Enumeration with Mac OSX 10.8 & 10.9.
    Thanks!
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Just thought I'd post this in case it helps someone. This could be the same problem we have (had) here so try this:
When it asks for name and password put this in the name field: sharename\name
So if the share is called "WWW" and your login name is "Bob" you'd put "www\Bob" in the name field and then normal password in the password field.
Works perfectly for us. I cant remember when it started 10.7 or 10.8 but this was the only solution. Hope it helps someone else!

  • Deskjet D4260 does not work with an ethernet printer server

I am attempting to attach a Deskjet D4260 printer to a home ethernet network using a StarTech PM1115U printer server. The printer has been connected to the network through a desktop computer, and worked perfectly.  The printer server will also work with a different printer (Canon i550).  However, it doesn't work with the D4260.  The server's port will not go online, and it does not appear to recognize the printer.
This occurs regardless of OS (Windows XP, VIsta, 7, and 8 preview all don't  work).
StarTech says there is no incompatibility issue with the server and host-based LIDL printers in general or the D4260 in particular.  Does anyone know of any issues, or how to get the D4260 to work with this printer server?

Yes, that is how the instructions with the server tell you to install it.  The server is connected to the network via ethernet cable and the printer to the server via USB.  The server's instructions (as well as those given to me from StarTech support) say to install the printer as a local printer using a TCP/IP port using the server's IP address, which must be on the same subnet as the computer you are installing the printer on.  All this I have done.  There are a number of settings for the port.  It can be raw or LPR and there are other options.  I have attached it as instructed, and I have tried both raw and LPR, and tried various other settings.  I was able to install a Canon i550 on the server with no difficulties.  I was able to print to the printer, and the server, when I accessed it using either StarTech's server management software or a browser pointed to the IP address, showed the server's port on line and identified correctly the printer attached to it.  When I attach the D4260, however, it shows the port off line and does not identify the printer.  I got this server as a replacement for one that I bought without knowing that, according to its own documentation, it does not work with LIDL orinters.   StarTech did not have any such warning, and the StarTech support people said that there should be no problem with a LIDL printer.  They told me to consult HP support (to which this forum is the closest thing I can find).  It looks to me as if either there is something about the printer that needs to be reset, or the server does not work with this printer.  So far changing the driver does something, but not enough to print.

  • Audio service hangs on Windows Server 2008R2 with Remote Desktop Services

    Hello!
I have some terminal servers on Windows Server 2008R2. Users have the ability to use web browsers (IE, Firefox) with the included Flash Player, IM clients / Internet
telephony (Skype, ICQ), Windows Media Player, Office, and a specific internal software (works with MS SQL). I have the following problem: the Windows audio service hangs up that leads to hangup of all programs which use it, such as: any sites in Internet with
a flash content (in all browsers), ICQ, Skype.Even logging out the session hung when tried to lose a sound. It's impossible to stop or restart service from the services.msc the service just hang with status "restarting". To stop service I terminate svchost
process. As soon as the audio service is stopped - all programs start to work correctly (certainly without a sound). This problem appeared not suddenly - periodic hangups of programs on servers were marked long ago (more than half a year), but not directly
were connected to audio service, especially there were they rather rare (on the average once a week - two) and were corrected by server reset. The error message:

shall suggest an idea about a sound service, but in Event Viewer has no Windows Audio events.
Recently I updated Skype to the last version 6.0.66.120. Before was 4.2.35.155 because versions 5хх on Windows2008R2 with the Remote Desctop Services actually don't
work, if users at the server more than one or two. We checked the sixth version by the test machine with the terminal environment and very were delighted to its normal working capacity. However after installation of this client on production servers it appeared
that hangups of programs on servers began to occur on the average time at an o'clock in case of an average daily load (about 20 users on one server). If you have worked one or two users, problems weren't watched. Internet search led me to the support page
Skype, where the Windows 7 x64 user faced a similar problem in the fifth version of the program. But the solutions proposed by the support team does not help me. In addition, I found the advice to disable enhancements in the properties of the playback device,
but it is impossible for the "Remote Audio" device.
At the moment, on servers where I updated the Skype, I disabled the audio service. If within a reasonable time, I do not find a solution, I will have to revert
to an older version of Skype, but I would like to solve the problem completely.

Enable the Allow audio and video playback redirection Group Policy setting
To allow audio and video playback when connecting to a computer running Windows Server 2008 R2, you must enable the Allow audio and video playback redirection Group Policy setting. The Allow audio and video playback redirection Group Policy setting is located
in Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection and can be configured by using either Local Group Policy Editor or the Group Policy Management
    Console (GPMC).
For more information about Group Policy settings for Remote Desktop Services, see the Remote Desktop Services Technical Reference (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=138134).
    Is this policy applied? Refer:

Also, have you tried update the audio device driver for this terminal server?

  • Will a D-Link DP-301P+ print server work with an HPLaserJet 5MP

    Setup includes the following:
HP LaserJet 5MP (90's model and this thing is a true workhorse!)
    Apple Airport Extreme wireless router
    Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 (OSX.4.11)
    iMac (OSX.6)
    Mac Mini (OSX.6)
I purchased a D-Link DP-301P+ Fast Ethernet Print Server, with the intent to plug it into the printer's parallel port (36 pin) and then plugging an ethernet cable between the server and the wireless router.  The only catch is that in order to plug the server into the printer, I will have to dremel out a small portion of the exterior casing of the printer (this is on the back side so it won't be noticeable).  Thus my two questions......will this setup even work?  Are there any special software settings needed?  Thanks for helping out with this.

  • Using Time Capsule with Linksys WPS54GU2 print server

Just curious if anyone else has had issues with using the Time Capsule with the above print server. I have been pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with WEP encryption turned on (WEP or no encryption is all the Linksys supports). Before I upgraded to the Time Capsule, I was using a 40-bit encryption key and everything was fine. It appears that you can only use 128-bit encryption on WEP with the Time Capsule, so I had to change keys. I haven't been able to ping the print server unless it's wired or encryption is turned off.
On top of this, I've also tried to run the old router with 128-bit WEP using the same key, and that doesn't work either, so it would seem to point to the print server as the culprit. I'm running the latest firmware on both devices.

Did you ever get this to work? I've got a similar Print Server and its WPS54G. PS was working wireless and now after adding the Time Capsule it no longer does.
