Session loss when a new window pops up

Hi there
I'm facing a problem with sessions.I'm using IE browser and a Tomcat server version 5.0.* . I have to use sessions in order to pass my variables through out my application, but when i click a link that pops up a new window and then close the poped up window, my session and all the registerd variables in my main window, are being lost. The funny thing is that the same application on another PC with the same developing tools, browser and server, is working just fine. I even copied and pasted the working-well Tomcat over my Tomcat and the problem is still there. The fact is that i can't understand where the problem is: in my Tomcat, in IE's settings?Please replay.Anything will help me!

PS: the application i mentioned, is exactly the same in any of the testing PC's. I also have to mention that i use Eclipse 3 for the developing of my application.

Since it works fine in other computers, the problem seems came from the IE setup.
normally, the seesion will still keep alive, even the pop-up window being closed. You can do
another test in Netscape to see what's going on. And also, did you use Javascript to open the new window? Check the javascript code (using windows.focus() or some other code which may
aftect the default behavior) . Write some log information to record the session status change.

  • How to keep old session id when a new session is created in web site

    Hi,
    I have a question about HttpSession in a Struts framework based project development.
    I have a web page "a.jsp" in public site (no need login) which can navigate to other pages/links. There is a button on "a.jsp" to popup a new window "pop.jsp" and create a session (session1). Usually, when I navigate to other pages/links from "a.jsp", it doesn't affect this "pop.jsp" and its session1. However, if I try to goto a secure site - a login page "login.jsp" from "a.jsp", since the "login.jsp" needs to kill current session before the login, the current session1 within the "pop.jsp" is killed at that time. When I go back to "pop.jsp", it will create a new session2 and the original session1 attributes does not exist any more. Therefore, I need to save the session1 id in somewhere to compare it with new session2 id when session is changed, and display some message in "pop.jsp".
    Do anyone know how/where to keep session1 id? Any sample/suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hi
    It all depends on your requirements, e.g. do you need to pass variables between the two .swf files for example, then this link may help:
    http://ryangoodman.net/blog/index.php/2006/12/15/passing_data_from_a_parent_to_child_swf

  • Open New window (pop-up) in JSP

    Is there a way to open a new window (pop-up) in JSP (not using Javascript:window.open()).
    I basically have a JSP that checks user enter data. The If user enter incorrect data it will redirect to itself with a http session value (f-failed) to indicate the type of data error and display proper error message.
    If user enter all correct data then it will display a new window (pop-up) in front of the previous window. All also passing values to the new window!
    Whats the window.open() in JSP?
    THanks

    What about trying this scenario:
    1. from your first jsp submit to a modal window
    var returnVal = window.showModalDialog("yourServlet","",
    "dialogHeight:600px;dialogWidth:800px;status:no;help:no");
    2. The servlet sets an error code in the request object i.e. 0 good, -1 bad.
    3. forward to a page (I call the page database_status.jsp) and get the error code. With javascipt do this:
    <%
    // get return code
    String returnCode = (String)request.getAttribute("databaseStatus");
    %>
    window.returnValue = parseInt("<%= returnCode %>");
    self.close();
    4. read the return code
    if(returnVal == 0)
    alert('code is good');
    or pop up your window.

  • Fading background when opening new window

    Fading background when opening new window. I would like to do a "lightbox" effect that on mouseclick opens a new window over the top of the other windows(s) that has a close button to take the user back to the previous page. I have viewed this in the past, but now cannot find examples. If you have URLS of examples, or better yet, code to make this happen, that would be helpful. Thoughts and opinions on why I shouldn't use this effect are also welcome!

    If you need a lightbox effect, use one the freely available "lightbox" or modal window scripts.
    Fancy Box is well documented and works with images, text, iframes, Google Maps, media, etc..

  • How can I disable the event sound played when a new window is opened?

    When Firefox starts, or when a new window is opened there is an annoying click.
    How can I disable this?
    The only way I have been able to stop it is by disabling all event sounds from the control panel but I'd rather just disable this particular sound.

    No, it's Windows XP. Hmmm, I don't know! I only started noticing it recently and as far as I remember, the only new add on is NoScript. I found the event that was being triggered (Start Connection) and disabled the sound in Windows. So the problem is solved in that I don't have the annoying sound ... but don't know why it started and hope nothing sinister is going on.

  • Losing original session when opening new window

    I have an application that opens a new child window that form submits
    to another application on another server. When this happens the other application server automatically creates a new session, wiping out the original session in the parent window.
    Is there a way to open a window with a new session such that this new session is seperate from the original and won't kill the session when you click back on the parent window?

    I've dealt with this before. I'm not sure what appserver you're using, but weblogic allows you to speciy the session cookie name used by the web application. So each one of our apps have a different session cookie name (never the default JSESSIONID which would be shared). So in your situation, the app in the new window would be using a different session cookie so it would never overwrite the original window's cookie. I'd imagine most containers allow this type of configuration...just not sure. In weblogic, you defing the cookie name in the weblogic.xml file(deployed with each webapp). Here's what it looks like...
    <weblogic-web-app>
    <session-descriptor>
    <session-param>
    <param-name>CookieName</param-name>
    <param-value>MYAPPSCOOKIENAME</param-value>
    I'd also suggest that you completely leave the default (JSESSIONID) completely out of your cookie name. I've heard some containers use the indexOf function to find the cookie.... so MYAPPJSESSIONID and JSESSIONIDMYAPP might possibly be picked up. I'm not sure of this though, but was chatting with a co-worker who told me.

  • Session problem in a new window created by window.open()

    hello,
    I have a drugsearch.jsp page, I sessioned an durgCollection object on this jsp page using session.setAttribute("drugCollection",drugCollection);
    there is a link on this jsp which will call a javascript to open a new window .
    here is the javascript to open another new window:
    function openReportWindow()
    window.open("/drug/Report.jsp","report", "toolbar,scrollbars,width=800,height=800,left=100,top=10");
    but in the Report.jsp, I won't be able to get the same session object as in the calling jsp ( drugsearch.jsp) by calling session.getAttribute("drugCollection").
    if I change the link on drugsearch.jsp to link to the Report.jsp directly instead of opening a new window, then I can get the same session object from the Report.jsp.
    what's the problem? can someone give me an advice?
    thanks

    A session is assosiated with one client(browser).
    when you open a new browser, a new session is created. In order to have common place for both the browsers, try storing the data in the 'Servlet Context'

  • Why tabs sometimes when opening new window go beyond it?

    When clicking on that area http://awesomescreenshot.com/0f8ccqv3e
    New window opened with tabs showing like this http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/7799/20110503090301.png
    This looks so not beacause of my screenshot. The upper part of the tab literally goes beyond.

    See also:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow
    *1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
    For links opened via JavaScript you can look at this pref:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction
    Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
    The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
    You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
    The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
    You can delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • When surfing, new windows unrelated open.

    When surfing or moving my mouse over a link, new windows, especially groupon opens. I am running windows 7 64 bit with Firefox 5.0

    I am also having the same problem.  It opens web sites I have visited in the past.  It happens despite clearing the history.  I have also tried to surf in private mode and I will still get past windows open of sites visited in private mode.
    I do have "block pop up windows" enabled.
    Any ideas what is going on and how to stop it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Entourage: new windows pop to top left of screen

    Hi there,
    I'm having a problem w/my Entourage. I'm not sure if this is a Mac Leopard issue or one directly related to Entourage and I need to contact MS or maybe something totally unrelated but maybe someone here knows and has the answer. I'm brand new to Apple/Mac as of about 2 weeks ago, never had one before.
    When I open Entourage it opens in the center of my screen. When I open an email in Entourage or click to compose one, the window I'm going to read or compose in pops up to the very top left of my ~huge~ 24" screen and I have to move it down each and every time in order to read or type in it.
    I personally find this to be very annoying and wondering if anyone knows how to make these windows pop up in the center of my screen like when the Entourage program itself opens up?
    Thanks for any help.
    MC

    Did a little searching on Microsoft's Newsgroup sites. One MS employee gave this answer on the very same question.
    If you start a new message window, move it to where you want it to be, close it (saving as draft), then quit Entourage. It should force Entourage to remember the window position.
    However, this does not work reliably. We have never been able to track down what prevents Entourage from remembering window positions properly (through several versions!)
    What I did do just now on my wife's iMac with Entourage 2008 was simply open a new mail window, moved it to the position I wanted and closed it. Since I hadn't typed anything, it closed without asking me to save anything. But now the new mail window always opens right where I had it last! Even after shutting the program down and relaunching. I'll have to try that on the Mac Pro.

  • New Window POP UP

    How can I get to Pop up a new form when clicking on a link on another form.
    I have two workflows to show the two different forms. On clicking a link on first form, it calls the other workflow which displays the other form. I want this form in a different window of diff size. May be this can be done with java Script. Not sure how to give that in the form( i have tried the onclick property, but that didnt work). Please let me know how can i proceed with the requirement.

    I got the answer. We can get a new window by adding a property i.e.
    <Property name='target' value='_blank'/>
    But now the question is how can I change the new window size???
