Set preview to always include networked devices?

Is there any way to do this? It's pretty annoying to always have to set this in the pull down menu then access the menu again to select the networked scanner. There should be a preference setting.

Unless there is some particular reason for using Preview, you could use Image Capture instead. The networked HP printer will appear under the Shared entry in the left column and you only need to select it to initiate a scan.
Looking at some of the posts in the "More Like This" section to the right, it seems that there is no solution for Preview.

  • Preview Include Network Devices 'sticky' for scanning

Couldn't find a Preview forum but is there a way to not have to go File > Import from Scanner > Include Network Devices and then also have to do File Import from Scanner > OfficeJet Pro 8500 every time I start Preview and need to do a scan from my HP 8500 "All in One"?
I'd like to do this in one step if possible
Apparently there is some bug issue with OSX and being able to control scans from the scanner front panel (i.e. the device) which affects all scanners? The HP guy actually told me they don't support it and when I bugged him he got us on a conference call with Mac which ended up being uber ridiculous.
Anyway, I can't do a scan from the device, have to do it from the computer, and I'd love to be able to keep the scanner hooked up to Preview so at the least I don't do two steps every time I set down to do a series of scans. As it is it is - place the image on the scanner, sit down at the computer (or do a long lean), hit preview, select area, hit scan, get up from the computer, place image...
    Thanks for any help

my understanding is that this will never be fixed in Snow Leopard but some documentation I read made it sound up in the air as to whether this will be or is fixed in Lion.
I have a bigger problem now in that nothing on the machine will work except the OK key when paper is empty.
    "All in one" indeed...

  • I have an airport express and want to know how to set up two different wireless networks. One with 5GHZ and one with 2.4GHZ so different devices can connect to either.

I have an airport express and want to know how to set up two different wireless networks. One with 5GHZ and one with 2.4GHZ so different devices can connect to either. I have an iphone 4 that will not connect to 5ghz.
    thank you!

Your AirPort Express is already providing two separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, but each band is using the same wireless network name.
This is the default setup for the AirPort Express, which is recommended for most users. The theory here is that devices will automatically connect to the best quality signal based on their capabilities and distance in relation to the AirPort Express.
It is possible to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then "point" devices at that network to connect. Some users swear by this option.....(I am not one of them).... but you might want to give it a try to see how it works for you.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on the AirPort Express
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options near the bottom of the next window
Enter a check mark next to 5 GHz Name.....which will automatically add "5 GHz" to the network name....so you can identify it
Click Save, then click Update and wait a full minute for the Express to restart
Now you will need to "point" your 5 GHz capable devices at the 5 GHz network name.  2.4 GHz devices will connect to your "other" network name.

  • Multiple Network Device Groups when importing to ISE using template

I have a question about importing a group of network devices into ISE using the template provided. The template only has a single column for Network Device Groups - is there a way to import devices and include more than one NDG? For instance, the NDG's we use are "Device Type" and "Location". I'd like to include both when doing my import and I've tried multiple ways to seperate the two strings within the column (comma's colons, semi-colons, spaces, pipes, tabs, etc), but i always get an error message that "NDG group does not exist". I also tried adding a new column into the template, but that just plain failed to import.
If there is any way to do this, I would appreciate any advice on how - I have to add about 40 devices per week to our ISE deployment and I'd rather not have to go in and add any parameters manually if it can be helped. Thanks very much!
    Ross
BTW, we are running ISE ver 1.1.2 in case it is relevant.

Yes, you can do it. You have to use the pipe "|" to separate the groups. But please notice you must create the network device groups in advance.
For example, I have the following groups in my csv file to import a lot of network devices
    Device Type#All Device Types#SWITCHES#375O-X|Location#All Locations#PERU#LIMA
But as a pre-requisite I have to create the network device groups.
If you have lots of network device groups, you can mass import them instead of creating them one by one.
    Please rate if it helps

  • ISE Could not locate Network Device or AAA Client

When authenticating using 802.1x and MAB, I recieve an authentication failure with the error 11007(Could not locate Network Device or AAA Client). The root cause that ISE spits back at me is "Could not find the network device or the AAA Client while accessing NAS by IP during authentication." I did pretty much everything by the book except instead of using a loopback interface I used a vlan with a defined ip address.  Could this be causing the problem?

  • Network Device Repository/Database to keep Inventory & other info

I need your help to find a solution/tool which can serve as network repository for our organization.  This tool can be database of all network device including servers to keep Visio diagrams, change logs, specify location, escalations, primary and secondary contacts etc.
I have heard of Orion but I think it can’t hold Visio diagrams with devices.  If you know any other tools that can do all that for me, it will be appreciated.

I've always used sharepoint for managing diagrams as it has built in version control. It handles document management very well.
If you were so inclined you could build your own database for device information in sharepoint also and link the devices to diagrams
Of course there is no one tool to manage all of your requirements. That's why I'll plug my own tool for configuration backups of your network devices.

    Hello,
Is the appropriate IOS IP address defined on the Network Devices and AAA Clients for the ACS? If yes, which IP address is reported on the ACS Failure that includes the error "TACACS+ packet from unknown Network Device or AAA Client"? Is the ACS reporting the IP address as unknown when it is already defined appropriately?

  • Cannot set Airport Extreme to Extend Network

    Hi all,
So I have a Time Capsule 2013 downstairs as my main base station, two other Expresses downstairs set to extend the network, and one Airport Extreme upstairs which I can't set to extend the network. During the setup in Airport Utility, it allows me to select "Extend Network (Recommended)" and the Time Capsule as the main base station that it would be extending. But when I check it in Airport Utility after it's set up, it shows it set to "Create a Wireless Network"
I have ethernet connected to the upstairs Extreme via a wall drop going straight to my FIOS router in a distribution panel. My main Time Capsule is also ethernet connected the same way going to the FIOS router.
So my question is... is the Extreme upstairs changing back to "Create a Wireless Network" because it is ethernet connected, unlike my two Express units downstairs? And secondly, is this the preferred method to set up my network? (basically, a Time Capsule and Airport Extreme each connected to a LAN port on my FIOS router, plus two Express units on wireless.). I've read where the optimal way is to interconnect the Airport devices over ethernet, but my distances are too great to do that.
Any feedback or advise would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

is the Extreme upstairs changing back to "Create a Wireless Network" because it is ethernet connected
Yes. This is the correct setting.
It can be confusing, but when you "extend" using an Ethernet connection, the AirPort will use the "Create a wireless network" setting.
When you "extend" wirelessly, the AirPort will use the "Extend a wireless network" setting.
If you try to connect using Ethernet, and use the "Extend a wireless network" setting, the "extended" network will crash.
is this the preferred method to set up my network?
A wired Ethernet connection is always preferred over a wireless connection when you are extending the network. The main reason for this is that there is no bandwidth loss in a wire.
When you "extend" wirelessly, the extending device can only extend or repeat the bandwidth that it receives. By the time that the wireless signal reaches the extending device, it has slowed down considerably. So, a slower signal gets repeated.

  • Having trouble setting up an Ad Hoc network with both iOS, Mac OS, and Windows.

So I'm skiing with some friends but we forgot to bring a router with us.  The lodge internet is passable but we only have one ethernet connection.  My friend connected his (windows) laptop to the ethernet and set up an Ad-Hoc network.  The problem is that only Mac OS and iOS devices are able to connect to the network and use the internet.  The windows machines and Droid devices can't connect or in some cases they can connect they can't use the internet.
My question is what special wizardry allows Mac OS and iOS to work fine on the ad hoc network but not the other platforms?  Is there something I can do to get the other machines to connect to the network?  Would things work better if I hosted the Ad Hoc network? Thanks for all the help.

  • HP Network Devices Support service will not start

Product: HP Photosmart Premium All-in-one (C309g)
    OS: Vista Business 32 bit
    Errors:
When running the "Add Device" portion of set up to add the printer to my PC so it can be accessed wirelessly this pops up in the back ground: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
The result of the above process is the following message in the HP installer screen: "The HP software that enables networking is not responding. Cancel the installation and restart the PC."
As you may guess, I've had this printer for a while couple/few years at least, and I've been running it wireleslly for quite some time.
The printer is active on my wireless network, printing Wireless Network Test Report from the printer proves this. I can also access the printer's webpage by entering its IP in a web browser.
We first perceived the issue when HP Solution Center reported that the Printer was no longer connected. And it suggested doing something with the install, which sent me down the road of unintalls and installs.
I've run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which tells me the printer is installed for use via USB, but the networked instance is not installed.
I still have the orginal instal CD for this printer. Running setup off the root of the CD, i get the "Later Version already installed" or something to that extent.  I've also downloaded the most recent Basic and Full Feature Instals from HP site.
I've used Revo Uninstaller to do my uninstalls and I've run CCleaner after all the apps are gone from the program list.
I've read somewhere that this is related to the "HP Network Devices Support" service.
In computer management I can see that its not running, and it is set to start "Automatically (Delayed Start)"
When I try to start this service I get this: "Windows could not start the HP Network Devices Support service on local computer Error 2: They system could not find the file specified"
Somethings that have been done on this machine recently, i'm not sure when the Printer problem started...
    Installed Quicken 2013
    Installed iTunes
Changed my home network from Public to private on this machine so I could set up some media servers.
I've check through all the quarantined files of my antivirus and there didn't seem to be any HP files in there.
I'm  hoping my issue is in fact this service, and somehow replacing the missing file its refferencing will fix it all.
My next step is to uninstall everything again, and make sure that service drops out of the list too, then reinstall from HP download.
    This question was solved.

I would suggest using the software scrubber built into the install to clean everything out. The steps below will walk you through it.  Before doing step 10 from a CD or step 15 from a download, check the both program files folder to make sure that the HP folders get deleted.
    From original printer installation CD:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
    2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the uninstall_ L4.bat for non-HP computers.  For HP computers run the Uninstall_L3.bat
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

    4. Click the start menu.
    5. Click Run.
    6. Type %temp% in the run field
    7. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    8. Open folder Util

  • Network Device Usermode I/O Protocol and ConfigFree error

I have a Toshiba laptop and recently it has not started properly, displaying the following message: "Not found TOSHIBA Network Device Usermode I/O Protocol. Please reinstall ConfigFree. OK".
I am unable to use the laptop and it will not shut down without being forced (though once it did shut down and restarted OK, and then worked fine for three days We left it over Xmas and now it is doing it again). Can anyone let me know what this error message means and how I can deal with it (I know little about the workings of my laptop!).
We have Windows XP and are set up to a wireless broadband connection. I would be wonderfully happy if I could sort this as I have been forced to travel to work rather than work from home today because of it!!!!
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi
    The message is clear.
    > Please reinstall ConfigFree.
So why didnt you reinstall this utility???
If you didnt create the Tools & Utility CD you can download this utility from the Toshiba driver page.
Then remove the ConfigFree from the Add & remove programs, reboot the unit and install the ConfigFree again.

  • Help setting up HP6500A for home network

I bought a 6500A all in one with wireless capability to support three computers at my home. I have a desktop running Windows XP, a laptop running XP and a laptop running windows 7. My ISP is Verizon FIOS. I set up the 6500 with a wired connection to the desktop and that works fine. I sent a test print from the laptop running windows 7 and that worked fine. When I tried to see the printer from the laptop running XP, I can't see it. I have loaded the latest drivers from the HP website and there are no firewall issues preventing the laptop from seeing the printer.
Any suggestions on what to try next? Upgrading to Windows 7 on this laptop is not an option.

There is a better way to set up this printer.  You are trying to share one PC's USB connection which is difficult, buggy and will only share the printing function, not scanning or faxing.
Let's connect your printer to your FIOS router (disconnect from the desktop):
    - Unplug the FIOS line from the router
    - Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
    - On the front of the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Setup Wizard - follow the directions
    - Now find the IP address of the printer (it should be listed in the Network menu of the printer or on the Wireless Network Test in the Network menu)
    - Type the printer's IP into the address bar of an web browser.
    - On that screen you will find a Networking Tab, then on the left Wireless, then the IPv4 Tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know, use the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter the same IP as the printer except '.1' for the last number, in the gateway and first DNS.  Leave the second DNS blank.
    - Plug in the FIOS line, reboot the router.
    - Now on each PC, go to Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard and run "Add a Device".  Add the printer as a Network device.  Delete the old USB instance of the printer in Control Panel > Printers.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • NAS dissapeared from Network Devices

    Hi everyone
I have a Mac Retina Pro running OS X 10.9.4 (13E28). I recently bought a Synology NAS (DS214). I enabled the Mac file sharing Service on it and it worked fine for the first couple of weeks. But suddenly a couple of days ago it is no longer available in the network devices... There is no firewall enabled and it's on the same domestic LAN. And I can actually reach the NAS using the GUI on the browser. Everything is up, it is just not available anymore on my MAC. And just on this Mac.
Not sure if related at all, but this is consistent with a very annoying behaviour of the MAC against external drives in general... I already have 2 external disk (one WD and the other Seagate) drives that just stopped working on it. Nothing happens, and they are never displayed when the USB is connected after using them succesfully for a while. Though if I connect the same external drives in other personal computers (including similar Macs they come up just fine). This is something else I need to fix as well, but probably in a separate thread..
Still wondering if some kind of device info is screwed up and how can it be reset if appropriate.
    Thanks

  • Failover Cluster Validation Report Error with IBM USB Remote NDIS Network device

We are setting up Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster on IBM X3850 X5 and get errors in the Failover cluster Validation Report due to the IBM USB Remote NDIS Network Device is using APIPA adresses and both servers are using same APIPA-adresse.
How should I configure the Server and OS for the Failover cluster to be MS approved?
IBM don't recommend that i disable the Network device, but it is a possible solution!?!

What I did was use ipconfig /all to see the settings it is using and then when and set the ip setting on the NDIS driver to be that except I increment the last value by 1 for each node so that they do not have the same IP address.   I ran the
cluster validation again and it came up clean and I have not experienced any issues yet.  It does give warnings about it being an Automatic Private IP Address and should not be used, which is ok because we are not going to use it anyways.
