Set up multiple iTunes accounts on one computer?

I bought each of my two daughters their own iPods for Christmas, and when I set them up, I used my iTunes account login for both of them.  It has become an issue sharing my account on their devices, because all of my information comes up on their iPods (like my messages).  How can I set up new accounts for each of them, since I only have one computer?  I want each of them to have their own iTunes accounts so they can stop using mine.  Please help!!!

You could set up two completely separate libraries and share music via Home Sharing.

Also consider getting them their own AppleID, setting each person up with their own user account on the computer,  and look into Family Sharing possibilities.  Family Sharing - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT201060 - "Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six people in your family to share each other’s iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases without sharing accounts. Pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device. And share photos, a family calendar, and more to help keep everyone connected."
If you use multiple AppleIDs on a computer make sure you maintain a backup of all media.  There is a 90 day wait time between using different Apple  Ids with the iTUnes Store for the purposes of re-downloading past purchases.

I had two accounts on one computer until recently. You need to use two user accounts on the computer. Note, I say I did it until recently, therefore I'm not able to confirm this still works, but assume it does.

  • HT1689 How do I download multiple itunes accounts on one computer under one user?

Recenlty moved to one account on our windows 7 computer to cut down on potential malware issues that allowed malware to migrate over to other user accounts.  However, we have different iTunes accounts and want to be able to download our individual music from each of our devices that include an iphone 4, iphone 4S, and ipod.  How do I create this capability under one windows 7 user account?

    It certainly is possible.

A single computer can be authorized for multiple iTunes accounts but only one account can be signed into the store at a time.
Frankly, you are better off with unique Windows User accounts for each user.

"Won't it present problems if the daughter needs to reauthorize the computer for her own use before 90 days,"
No. The 90 day limit ONLY applies to redownloading purchases from iTunes..
So if she were to redownload purchases from the father's account then she'd have to wait 90 days to redownload form her own account. and the computer can be authorized for multiple iTunes account (pretty sure it's 5) . You don't need to later reauthorize for first account if you authorize for a different account.
More discussion on 90 day wait period - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6094005 - disable automatic downloads so message doesn't appear when using multiple accounts.

  • Multiple iTunes Accounts on One Computer

I just got an iPod Nano. My husband has an iPod Mini. He's been using iTunes fine for months with his Apple ID. I successfully set us up to each replicate just our playlists so we can both have our iPods in iTunes. However, I can't log in to iTunes. When I click on the Account button in the upper left and switch the email address and password to my AppleID info, it gives me an error message: "Additional security information is needed. To use this Apple ID you must first login to the My Info Web page then provide additional security information." Then there's a button to click "Update Security Info". If I click the button, nothing happens. If I manually go to the My Info Web page and enter the required fields, I still do get the error when I go back to iTunes. I've checked the My Info Web page a million times. I have confirmation emails from Apple stating I've successfully registered. I've reinstalled iTunes. I'm still getting the error.
I don't want to create separate user accounts in Windows because everything else is shared and I don't want to have to log in. I just want to switch back and forth within iTunes.
What do I need to do so that I can switch between my husband's email address and mine within iTunes? I still haven't been able to buy any music because I can't log in and Apple support has not helped despite repeated phone calls and emails.

Sign into your husband's account at the store, and then use the "Sign Out" option in the Account window. Then try putting in your address.
If that doesn't work, try reading through this Apple page on Music Store issues, especially the Managing Your Account area near the bottom of the page.
    Good luck!

is it possible to set up multiple iTunes accounts on a single computer?

If you do it with a single user account, you will receive update notifications for purchase made on both IDs regardless of which one you're using at the time.  That's slightly frustrating as you get the notification BUT you can't actually update!  In any event, separate user accounts on the computer is the cleaner way to go.

  • Can you have two iTunes accounts on one computer?

Just bought a MacBook Air which I'm sharing with my husband. Is it possible to have two active iTunes accounts on one computer? We both have very different tastes in music and we have our own iPhones that we'd like to update differently. Would be great to have the option to separate our accounts.

Yes you can... and it's not that hard

  • How do I get my music from my account on old computer to new computer? And how do I have two seperate itunes accounts on one computer?

I had my music on my itunes on my old computer (pc), and need to move it to my husband's computer. My husband and I both have iphones and want to keep using our seperate itunes accounts on one computer, as we both have our own media set up on our accounts. I had burned my music from the old computer onto discs and imported onto the new one...works in the library but I can't put them into playlists, which means I can't put the music on my iphone. As for using two seperate accounts on one computer, it was suggested to me to make another profile on windows (vista), and use the second account on that profile. I did that and have had such a frustrating time trying to get this to work. I don't know if I've done something wrong, but it's just headache after headache. Somehow my apps even ended up on my husband's account? Also, how can we share music between our profiles? It seems ridiculous that we should have to buy an album twice just because we have to different accounts. I would be willing to create a third joint account with my husband, but only if we can still have our own music, apps, etc, and can somehow transfer the music we have to this new account...if possible.  Suggestions please???? I'm so close to pulling out my hair over this!!!

You'll need to copy the music currently on your iPod to your new PC and into iTunes first before you can sync it to the new iPod.
