Setting up a network between MacOS X Mavericks and Windows 8

Hi,
I searched the internet for some working instructions to set up a network between above mentioned computers. Until now non of the instructions I followed did work, so I like to have an instruction specialy written for above OS's, can someone provide me with a reliable instruction ?? Both computers are up to date, and believing some of the guys ( and girls) online it must be very easy to set up a network, until now I never succeeded in a PC to PC connection, so let's hope for the best in a PC to Mac connection.
JohnMGD.

LowLuster,
I did what you wrote above, I see the Mac now on my Windows machine, BUT, when I click in Windows on iMac it asks for a Network password and username, which username is meant ? and which password ? I filled in the password which I use when I start the computer, for both computers the same, but I get an error message. or do I have to make a new uniq username and password somewhere?
When and how do I see the Windows computer on my iMac ?

  • Hi all, i can't sync over wifi between my iPhone 4 and Windows 7 64 bit, wifi sync works with the same phone and my Windows 8 machine, tried solutions from other threads with no luck, just thought i'd see if anyone else had any ideas, thanks.

Hi all, i can't sync over wifi between my iPhone 4 and Windows 7 64 bit, wifi sync works with the same phone and my Windows 8 machine so the problem seems confined to Windows 7. I've tried solutions from other threads -
Making sure everything is allowed through firewall
    Rebooting phone/laptop/router
    Disabling ipv6
Disabling all networks except the one curently on
    Re-installing iTunes
    Restoring iPhone
No luck with any of those unfortunately so i just thought i'd see if anyone else is still without wifi sync after trying those as well and if you ever found a fix, thanks.

I just wanted to leave a note that it's working now. I'm not sure if it was the latest iTunes update that got it working or that i decided to start a new library instead of using the one i had backed up on Windows 8 (it didn't occur to me to check using the old library when i re-installed iTunes). But if anyone is having this problem, it might be worth trying again with a new installation of iTunes to see if the latest update works for you, and if not, try using a fresh library instead of a backup (by fresh library i mean discard your old library completely and start a new library, not just restore as new iPhone, a whole new library).

  • I have an iMac mid-2010 running Snow Leopard. Is it possible to install Mavericks and Windows 8 on separate partitions while keeping Snow Leopard?

I have an iMac mid-2010 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Is it possible to install Mavericks and Windows 8 on separate partitions while keeping Snow Leopard? If so, can you describe the steps?

That should not be a problem as long as there is enough room on each partition for each OS.
    You would:
Use Disk Utility to partition your HD
Download the Mavericks installer and install it on one of the open partitions (when you run the installer from your 10.6.8 partition, it will ask you where you want to put Mavericks, and you will specify one of the open partitions).
Use Boot Camp to install Windows on another of the open partitions. Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp

  • Leopard / Bootcamp / Vista / Copy Files Between Mac OS X and Windows

On the apple page it says I can copy files from mac to windows?
"Copy Files Between Mac OS X and Windows
Copy, open, modify, or delete files in Mac OS X that you saved to your Windows partition. Leopard understands the Windows FAT32 disk format."
I tried installing Vista in bootcamp, but it says I cannot install in FAT32? So i format it to NTFS.
So here's my question, Can i still copy files between mac and pc, if I format into NTFS or am using vista?
    Thanks

I am quite a simple soul really and very easily pleased.
All I seek is a partition of some sort that I can save all my created work to - whether in XP Pro or OS X 10.5. But it has to be a large partition - probably a single partition on a large drive.
It would be sweeter still for Spotlight to do what it does (and it does on a FAT partition) and sweeter still for Time Machine to be very user friendly and do what it presently does not do and include created files into the TM.
Now that really would be very pleasant. Very pleasant indeed.

  • Is there any difference between sun solaris 8 and windows for Garb.Collecti

    Hi All,
is there any difference between refreshing the java virtual memory between sun solaris 8 and windows.i am fetching 25 records for every search action.in windows usage of java virual memory is 5 mb after every search it refreshes the memory.while using the same code in sun solaris 8 it throws heap out of memory error and for every search it wont refresh the memory.

  • Will my 4GB MBP work with Mavericks and Windows 7 smoothly?

I own a 13", Mid-2010 MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Will this system, given enough hard drive space, be able to run both Windows 7 and the newest OS X Mavericks via Boot Camp without any significant "lag", or effect on performance? I realise it will hurt the performance, but will it effect my ability to use the Mac?
Also, any advice on using Windows 7 with MOUNTAIN LION instead would be great!
If my specs do not meet the necessary requirements, any advice on upgrades i should need is also much appreciated
    Thanks!

That Mac will work without any problem in Mavericks and Windows 7, as it meets the requirements of both of them. OS X Mavericks improves Mac OS X performance in most Macs, but make a backup of your files before upgrading Mac OS X. The same if you use Mountain Lion, but it's a bit older OS X version.
If you haven't installed Windows 7 yet, follow these steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

  • Network browsing with Samba, Linux and Windows

I'm having trouble with OSX 10.4.8 and a SMB network. My
server is running Linux Debian, and exporting shares via Samba.
I have a couple of XP boxes on the network, and they can see all the shares in the workgroup, and can mount them.
However, from the OSX machines, when I click on 'connect to server' and then click 'browse' I get an empty box.
If I enter the server share manually, (smb://server/share)I can mount it as normal.
Also, if I go to the terminal, smbtree shows the entire tree correctly (the same as viewed from XP). Also smbclient -L server shows a list of
all shares, and nmblookup returns correct data.
I can ping all the machines, and they are all on the same subnet.
I have recently done the following:
    on the Linux Samba server:
    set OS level to 255
    set domain master yes
    set local master yes
    set wins support yes
    preferred master yes
From the Windows machine I can see the whole network, including the Mac. I can also mount the user's home dir which is shared on the Mac.
From the Mac, I see nothing when I click 'browse' from 'connect to server', but still I can connect if I manually type the path. Notably, I cannot the Mac listed in it's own browse window.
From the Mac terminal I can see the whole network using smbtree, including the Mac and it's share.
The Mac smb.conf file sets the os level to 8, and wins server to the IP address of the Linux Samba server.
smbclient -L localhost -U also works, showing the local machine's NETBIOS name, and the shared home directory.
If I run nmblookup -M WORKGROUP, the master is reported as 192.168.168.2, correctly.
However, nmblookup -T 192.168.168.2 does not work. I don't know if it should.
Any help / suggestion would be appreciated.

There's going to be something about that OS Level setting, I think.
Check your Mac's setting again (yours is 8, I see.)
Make Debian's OS Level not quite so high?
Disable mac's OS Level completely? (comment using semicolon)

  • Networking Snow Leopard to XP and Windows 7

    Hi all,
    I have a MacPro (OS X 10.6.3), a Pentium (Windows XP) and a Toshiba Laptop (Windows 7).
I use a D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dualband Gigabit router with the Snow Leopard and Windows XP PCs, a Lexmark laser printer and an Epson inkjet connected (wired) into the back. The Windows 7 laptop is connected wirelessly). All PCs see the internet and can network print, however, they can't see each other or file share. As usual I have to ask Apple and then Microsoft for help as D-Link do not support this network query saying that it is the PCs' operating system setting that I should look at. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

First all make sure in both Window systems that you allow local file sharing. For your first problem read this MacRumors thread and the posts will show you how to connect to the Windows 7 machine. Plus this Gizmodo blog article for Vista might help you.
In the D-Link router go to the router settings and give each networked device a "DHCP Reservation" address so you always know the IP of each of your networked devices.
Lastly make sure you using the same time sever in all three computers.
    Good Luck.

  • Can i set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and Windows 7 HP desktop?

I am wanting to set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and HP windows 7 home edition desktop.  Is this possible and how do I begin setting this up?
    Thanks for the help!

There is an app in the Mac App Store to use Microsoft Remote Desktop with a Mac: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
But according to their support site it requires Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate in the Windows 7 side. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn473006.aspx
If it was me, I would first look into Teamviewer to see if it will do what you need. It does work between Mac and Windows and it is free for non-commercial use. http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

  • Maverick and Windows 7 or 8

I need to buy either Windows 7 or 8 for college.  Which one will work better with Mavericks?

Mavericks is still in beta, so nobody will be able to answer that question here.
A better question is which one is better for your hardware. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634 This article has a table showing which MacBooks will run Windows 7 and Windows 8.
My experience has been that unless you have a touchscreen (which you don't), there is pretty much no point in using Windows 8. Stick with 7.

  • How t o set up a network between G4 and a PC running  XP

I read with interest the responce to a recent topic on a similar theme. I already have a home network involving 1 x G4 PowerMac running OS X 10.4.9, 1 x G4 PowerBook running OS X 10.4.8, 1 x G5 PowerMac running OS X 10.4.9 and a PC running XP. My problem is accessing the Macs from the XP and I though I might have solved it by visiting the mac-connect.com site refered to in the topic. However the set up procedure outlined at mac-connect involves input by editing the user account data through systems preferences but I'm not able to see those screens on any of my Macs? Consequently, I'm wondering if they are based on an older version of OS X and if so, whhat is the procedure now?

    Hi John,
You wouldn’t believe how long it’s taken me to find a satisfactory solution to this particular facet of my networking issues. Then just recently I discover this forum and bingo! – in a quiet sort of way, you’ve given me what looks to be the answer. Well all I can say is award yourself the CDM, or whatever is your favourite sweet or tipple. I’m not so sure about the sharepoints yet, I seem to be swapping the files I need to ok, but I haven’t tested it to the full yet.
    Thanks again

  • How do I set up a network between my Mac & PC's so they can share files

I'm looking to have a home network.. not the internet kind of network, I think it's called intranet (still learning about it) where I can have a Z: drive with a shared documents folder all my machines are able to access. I would also like to be able to access the files of any computer from any machine on the network. At some point I'm going to hook up an external drive, so that would like that to be the Z drive. I would want this external (Z) drive to be on the network so it's available from any machine as well.
This is the 1st Mac I've had.. while I have a decent working knowledge of PC's, I don't know anything really about the Mac world, so please feel free to explain everything to me as though I am a child.
    Thanks!
PS..Don't know if this is relevant, but I have a cradlepoint wireless router.

The answer to what Networking solutions are available depends on what Hardware interfaces are built-in and Mac OS your computer can run, which depends on which Mac it is.
If you can help readers determine which Mac you have, they are dying to help you, but you are not being responsive enough.
