Setting up  Guest accounts on my 3 macBook pros

Wanted to set up my MacBook pros with guest accounts with only limited access and privileges. I would like to set it up with no access to the home folder, applications folder (only the application that I allow access to), and the Preference folder. Now on the guest accounts it deletes all saved documents and "wipes out" all "foreign" files from the desktop and anywhere else, witch is good, but it seem to be also deleted all the aliases ( Microsoft Office Suite) that I created on the desktop every time I log off/shutdown the computer. Guess my question is is there a way to have my setting stick and only the files that were saved on the laptop are deleted?

  • Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?

Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same MacBook Pro?
Specifically, I used the Migration Assistant to move music and photos from my old PC to my new MacBook.
Somehow, I missed the fact that it was creating a new user account when it was doing this.  So none of music and photos are in the user account I originally set-up.  Instead, all these files are now in a different account.
I'd like to consolidate all my files on the one user account and delete the other one.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
    Thank you.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.

How do I set up an additional user on my MacBook Pro?

Go to System Preferences>Users and Groups.  Then click on the lock (if it's locked), to unlock the pane.  You will have to put in your password.  Then click on the + to add an account.  Add a password, and give it privileges.  You can make an admin account (not recommended if you're letting a stranger or a kid use your computer, but that's your choice).  Hope this helps.

  • I have just set up an additional user on my Macbook Pro but...

    Hi,
I have just set up an additional user on my Macbook Pro but...
We have just moved country from the UK to the USA. So we had to sell our iMac, which was primarily my wife's.
I have the new 15" Macbook pro, and decided to set up an additional user so my wife.
Everything is working fine apart from safari.
The bookmarks from my browser appear on her safari browser to. This pretty much defeats the object of 2 users, because all she does is shop online.
I really don't want to have shopping site cluttering up my bookmarks bar, or other bookmark folders on my log in.
Does anybody know if this can be changed?
    Help please.
    Cheers,
    Pete

Do both account make use of the same Apple ID? In that case Safari will use the same settings, which are stored on iCloud. To prevent this, open System Preferences in your wife's account, select iCloud and deselect Safari from the list.

I have forgotten my Mail account password on my MacBook Pro.  How can I learn what it is?  (It doesn't give the option of resetting my password!)

The password it prompts for is the third password line in a box under 1) my name and 2) my me.com email address.  I assume it is the password I set up back in 2009 when I bought my MacBook Pro.  However, I have since fogotten it, and it doesn't give you an opportunity to "remember" it.
    Thank you!
Glenn posted the method, try it.

You are more likely to get relavant and useful suggestions posting to the Mac forums instead of the iTunes for Windows forum where you've posted.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Macs don't come with a password. You have to set up the password during the initial setup. If you have forgotten your password, follow these steps to reset your password > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101

Upgrade your RAM to at least 4GB's.  Your machine can support 6GB's, but upgrade to 4GB's first. Regardless of what Apple says, you need at least 4GB's to run Lion properly.

  • How to share files between two accounts on the same Macbook Pro???

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro and have created two accounts, one for me and one for my wife.
I have all the itunes music on my account and my wife wants to load some of the songs nto her Itunes on her account but I don't want to start copying files into the "shared folder" in the "users folder" which will obviously take up more room on my hard drive.
I have noticed that I can see my folders when she is logged in but the ones that she needs to access (like the music folder) have a red dot on them and when you double click on them it brings up the message "the folder "music" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient privileges".
Can anyone help me with these problems?
    Please help me!!!

Hi, remember to set the ownership & permissions for files/folders if you want to be able to amend files or change them from both accounts. If a file is created in one account. it may only be viewed in the other account. but if you change the ownership & permissions from "read only" to "read and write" then files can be amended from both accounts. To get the info, simply click once on the folder or file then command-i to get the file/folders info. you can change things there. Permissions can only be change from the account the file/folder was created in.

  • I have set up iCloud on my iPhone and Macbook Pro. When I go to the iCloud site, I sign in, but when I click on any of the apps (Contacts, Calendar, etc), I get a pop up message telling to enable said app by setting up iCloud. Help?

    Hi,
I have set up iCloud on my iPhone and Mac. When I go to iCloud on the web, sign in, and click on one of the apps (Calendar, contacts, etc.), I get a message telling me to enable the app on my iOS device - which I've already done. Any idea why it's not working for me? Thanks!

This is presumably because you are running an earlier system than Lion. (Please always post your system when you have a question.)
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If you are running Leopard on an Intel Mac you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store - it's available in the online Apple Store. However if you have a PPC Mac you cannot run Snow Leopard and cannot proceed further.
