Setting up mailboxes for alias addresses

I can't see how in the Rules it's possible to direct a particular alias email address into a particular mailbox - it only appears to allow for instance all POP addresses, not just one of them. I want to be able to direct mail from my primary account address into one mailbox and from the alias address into another (and be able to send mail from both).

Not sure what your problem really is. It seems pretty straightforward to me:
If [any/all] of the following conditions are met:
[Any Recipient] [Contains] address
Perform the following actions:
[Move Message] to mailbox [Mailbox]

  • Can't set up mailbox for fourth email account on Mail?

    I have a Macbook Pro - Mid 2009 - 2.53GHZ, 4GB and 250GB HD.
    Running OS version 10.6.8.
My specific question is this I am using Mail 4.6 and have already set up a primary email account and through time I have added an additional 3 email addresses. they are all from the same ISP. No problems so far until recently when I created a new email address through my ISP and tried to create a new mailbox on mail. For whatever reason I cannot access the new account and I have done the following steps:
Made sure email address was correct and password too.
Checked working mail preferences against the new email account
Deleted one of the old working email mailboxes
Phoned the ISP support and they checked everything
Can access emails on the ISP webmail account
Checked that SSL option was unchecked which it was
After numerous phone calls to the ISP they have advised that I should phone Apple Technical support.
As this computer is quite old I would need to pay £35GBP for this support.
I cannot fathom why the previous mailboxes would work and now why subsequent new email accounts cannot be created on Mail.
On previous mailboxes there would be a separate trash box for each account and in this case when I create a new account this is not created.
Also the mailbox is greyed out and there is a warning symbol next to it.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
P.S I am thinking of upgrading to a Macbook Pro Retina and wonder if there is a simple way of transferring my saved email folders to my new mac?

    Both of these are wrong.
I finally set up .me.com on my Mac
The same settings on my ipad are not working.
AppleCare had to walk me through a bizarre set of steps
Those same steps apparently are different on an ipad
But .mac, .me account that exist can migrate with all you old aliases.
I will try to remember to log back in here and answer this when apple calls me in a few hours

  • Setting internet mailbox as "from" address

I have a secure anonymous e-mail address as part of a standard e-mail account. The anonymous address is accessible only with a web browser through the password-protected e-mail account. So there is no password associated with the anonymous account and I can't figure out how to use it as a customized return address.
I often want to send e-mail that has an anonymous return address (easy to do with Eudora). Is there any way to accomplish this with Apple Mail?
    Thanks!

    Golden Shoes,
You've got it right. The only current access to my anonymous e-mail account is via the web through the major account. So, as you understand, I can't therefore set up Mail with the anonymous e-mail address. I could make it the "reply to" address, but the sending address would still be visible (and I'd no longer be anonymous).
Eudora, which now seems pretty flaky on the new Macs, did at least allow using the anonymous e-mail address as a "sent from" option so that people could reply to it. I could use my own name but wouldn't have to see the replies if I didn't want to.

  • Aliases and not mailboxes for virtual domain

I know that virtual domains are broken in 10.5.1 and I'm not sure I want to upgrade to 10.5.2 yet until I know everyone else who has done it is working fine.
My question is our OSX Mail Server primary domain is xpmedia.com. We have an old mail server we are wanting to transition off of slowly. Right now the primary domain on that old server is extremeprophetic.com. We are wanting to take every single e-mail address on the old server and make them all xpmedia.com addresses which I'm in the process of creating right now. At some point we want to direct the MX record for Extreme Prophetic to our new mail server and do away with those addresses.
I don't want to create mailboxes for those addresses as they are going away. So my question is this. Let's say my old account is [email protected] and my new account on the new server is [email protected] If when I create that new xpmedia.com address, can I just make an alias in WGM for [email protected] and it will all come to my xpmedia.com account? Or do I have to do it the way of all my other virtual domains with the editing of the virtual file in postfix and forward those accounts on to xpmedia.com addresses?

I think I found out how to do this by reading another entry. I just need to make the other domain not a virtual domain but a local host alias. I think I'm good to go.

  • Individual mailboxes for .mac mail

I love this software. The only thing i'm trying to figure out is how to create individual mailboxes for each alias I've created. I would love to have each alias mail delivered to its appropriate box. If you can give some feedback on this topic I'd really apreciate it.
    Thanks

Assuming you are referring to a .Mac account alias email address, messages addressed to your .Mac email alias will arrive in your .Mac account inbox which cannot be changed. All mailboxes under Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer are created and managed automatically by Mail.
You can create an "On My Mac" location mailbox for each alias email address and then create a Rule in Mail to automatically transfer messages addressed to an alias email address to the designated mailbox for the address but none of these mailboxes will be located under Inbox in the mailboxes drawer.

  • Different mailboxes for Solution Manager notifications

    Hello,
Is it possible within Solution Manager to have different mailboxes for different monitored systems.
We like to send the alert notifications for the DEV en QAS to 1 mailbox and the alerts for the PRD to another mailbox.
It looks like that I only can set a mailbox for all monitored systems.
    Has anybody an idee?
    grz. Stefan van Dijken

    Hi Van,
What is exactly you are referring as mail box?  you referring mail groups distribution list?
You can have different monitor groups for even individual alert level in technical monitoring too,
Editing Notification Settings - SAP Solution Manager - SAP Library
in your case, if you create different template for dev and prd, you can assign different mail recipient lists.
    Please check and update.
    Thanks

  • Set Reply-To for Shared Mailbox Using Existing Address?

We have a shared mailbox named [email protected] Is there a way to set the reply-to email address for that shared mailbox to [email protected] if [email protected] is an existing mailbox?

No, unfortunately you can not have same Reply-To or Primary SMTP address to two different mailboxes.
Alternatively you can create a transport rule forward a mail to [email protected] if it is addressed to [email protected] or you could set forwarder on mailbox level too...

  • Alias addresses for POP account

I just received my new IMac with 10.4.10.
I had 10.3.9 up until this week. On that version I had under Mail accounts 2 addresses, each with its own password and name. I had, and still have, only one Service Provider and only one Incoming server and only one Outgoing server.
While in 10.3.9 I entered these 2 addresses as different accounts I now, supposedly, must enter the second address as an alias, which I did.
Apple's Mail Help says I should then be able to choose under which address I want to send a message : true, it works.
Apple's Mail Help says : "When Mail retrieves messages, it displays them in a single mailbox" : That does not work. I do not receive any messages from the second, alias address.
Originally I thought it was because each address had its own password. I changed the alias password to be the same as the main address password. It still does not work.
What else should I be doing ?

I tried but, like I have read other users saying already, since the second address would also be a POP account, the system tells me I already have a POP account and prevents me from setting up another one. Or, I do not know how to bypass this message from Apple Mail.
The addresses are like [email protected] and [email protected] (same one. The user names were different but then I changed them to be the same because I could not, as per Mail set up have 2 different usernames (I guess because I cannot, always as per Mail, have 2 POP accounts...
    I am lost and confused!
    Thank you for providing input

  • I have set up an iCloud email account in my name on my iPad and wish to set one up for my husband in his name. I can't seem to find how to do this. Am I only allowed one email address? If not can someone talk me through this. Thanks

I wish to set up an alias address on my iPad. My iCloud address has already been established and I can find no way to get into my account to add any alias.

You can create up to 3 alias addresses but you have to do this on icloud.com from your computer browser.  This article explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.  Also, incoming email to an alias address will go to your current iCloud inbox so it really isn't a separate account; just a different email address for the same account.
Each iCloud account only has a single iCloud email account.  If you really want to set up another, you would need to add a secondary iCloud account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, then entering a different Apple ID to create the account.  You can then turn on Mail to create the new account.  Mail in secondary accounts, however, is fetch email, not push (which is only supported in the primary account).

  • I want to set up an email alias but I keep being told I need to access "preferences" in mail. I don't seem to have that open when I go into mail it takes me straight to my inbox.  Thanks for any help.

Hi. I am new to using an iPad. I have set up an icloud email address for use by all the family.. I want to set up my own as my pop email does not seem to work well on this apple platform. I have tried to self help but I'm being asked to access the icloud mail preferences. I can't seem to do that. When I go into my mail app it takes me straight to my in box. I can't find a way of accessing preferences. Can someone help please?

An Alias would be an email address that is delivered to a different account's inbox.
For instance if you have  [email protected] and have [email protected] Then [email protected] would be an alias if mails from that address arrive at the icloud address.
If you want to add a completely different account, with a spearate inbox, like an account in hotmail and one in say yahoo mail. Then as has been pointed out, you need to go into the  Settings Icon, Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and then on add account. The iPad has several services preconfigured, you can tap on one of those from the list to setup an email for that service. Such as Hotmail, Gmail etc...
Or you can tap on other to add a personal pop3 or imap type email like from your office, or your school.

  • Setting up account for an alias in mail

I have created an alias on me.com for an email for my dart club. Can i create a mail account which retrieves only the emails sent to the alias? When I try setting up an account for the alias address, all of my emails to my regular account are downloaded as well. What to do?

  • Problems with password for alias email address

I am using two e-mail addresses, one the original @verizon.net and an alias I set up @alias.com
I was regularly -- but it seemed sporadically -- getting this following message, sometimes when I tried accessing, but sometimes just when the Apple Mail was open but I wasn't doing anything:
Enter the password for user “ -- alias address --” on IMAP server “mail.--alias--.com”
For a while I hit 'cancel' and everything worked fine.
But then I went into "account" and tried to fix the problem ... and I think I changed the password for the alias. In any case, I am unsure what the password is...and I can't see it on Preferences/Accounts.
Now the root "Inbox" and the "alias" addresses have the tilde by them, indicating offline. Nothing I do gets rid of the tilde. I get that same request for password.
Nonetheless I am still getting all e-mails through the secondary "Verizon" account. That does not have the tilde and is receiving all my e-mails.
I want to clean this up...and avoid the annoying continuing often request for password.
AS I WAS TYPING THIS, the message from Apple Mail popped up again. I had to hit 'cancel' or 'OK' (back and forth, each one) several times before it stopped popping up. This has happened before.

Have spent hours in Preferences/Account ... deleted account, replaced account ... tried SSL on and SSL off. Read "Help/If you can't receive messages". Used Connection Doctor.
I CAN send messages with my alias but am not receiving to it. This is a major problem for me.
There seems to be no way to find out what my correct password should be. I've got two in storage, one much more likely than the other. But neither works.
I'm also uncertain of incoming mail server correct name.

  • I created an Apple ID for my daughter with her own gmail address, but I want her Apple ID and primary email address to be an iCloud email address. How can I do this? I can't set up an icould email address for her without first creating an Apple ID?

I have created an Apple ID for my daughter with her own gmail address as the primary email address, but I want her Apple ID and primary email address to be an iCloud email address. How can I do this? I can't set up an icould email address for her without first creating an Apple ID right?
I'm not good with computers so please explain in simple way...:)
I also wonder what the best way is to set up accounts for children in a family. I dont want them to be able to purchase apps etc through the parents accounts, also some things we like to share as a family and others we don't want to share. Is there any good. clear, simple explanation from Apple Support about these issues? Or best to go to Apple store and go to genius bar or one to one advise?
    thanks

You can set up an iCloud account which makes the iCloud email address you choose the Apple ID and thus the login for it:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22283348#22283348
though I have to say I think it's more sensible if the ID is another address, both for security reasons (so people don't know what the login is) and as a contact address from Apple if the account were to stop working and they needed to contact you. So personally I would to to System Preferences, enter the GMail address which is an ID, and then choose a nerw @icloud.com address.
If she has her own iCloud account she will need either her own computer or her own user account on your Mac to be able to make use of it. You should note that under Apple's terms of use Apple IDs are only available to children of 13 and over.
As to purchasing apps, this is nothing to do with iCloud: it's iTunes, and the login can be different. So you can all sign into the same iTunes account but have different iCloud accounts. Or she can have her own iTunes account if she is of suitable age (credit card needed for purchasing apps).
If you have other children you should be aware that any one Mac or device can create only three iCloud accounts - this is tied to the serial number, not the user account, and once reached cannot be bypassed. You can of course sign into an iCloud account created on another device.

    Hello,
I hope I am posting this question in the right place.
After doing my latest update, my computer asked me to set up iCloud for my emails so that I could use Outlook to sync with my phone.  (My business email is in Outlook, it would be great if I could get my calendar, etc, to sync with that.  What has happened is that iCloud defaulted to my personal AOL account which I do not need for calendar, etc...on my phone.  I researched and it said I could delete my iCloud acct and add a new one, however there was a flag that I would lose all pics in Photo Stream that are saved there.
Any advice on what I can do to change my iCloud account to sync with my work email rather than my personal one without losing the pics?  (I guess if that's the only option, they are saved on my PC and external hard drive)
Please be patient with me as I am not computer savvy.  You might need to ask me some more questions to make this clear for you to understand.
    Thanks for your help.

Try going into System Prefereces then Mail, Cintacts & Calendars then click on the Microsoft Exchange link on the right. Type in your email address and password and allow it to set it up automatically.
Make sure your Mac is updated to the newest version of Mail.
If that still fails then I suggest you switch email clients. I don't care for the built in mail program. IMHO it is very buggy.
