Setting up my "new" macbook

I bought a new MacBook from the Apple Store for my daughter. The Mac rep patiently set up the computer for us. This week my husband bought what he thought was a"New" Macbook from another store. When I got home I found out that it was actually an open box purchase. Now for the question... When I started up the computer it has someone's name and information. How do I get back to the original set up menue so that I can set up the system the way I want to and also rename the computer.

This should help.

Since it's new you could also just reinstall the software. That way you could do a custom install and get rid of extra files you don't need. The extra language files and printer drivers take over 2 GB of space on your drive.
I would recommend this as you don't know what the other person did. You might want to consider returning it if it was bought as new and it is not.

How do I set up my new Macbook Pro to associate with my Apple ID so I can download purchased music?
Under 'Manage Devices' it only lists my iPhone and iMac. I've bought stuff on my new Macbook Pro using my Apple ID, but I can't find music I previously purchased using the iMac.

Oh, wait, I've found it. Silly me!

I am going to the Genius Bar tomorrow so will ask the question!

  • How do I set up my new Macbook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?

How do I set up my new MacBook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?  I cannot get it to work right; it seems to get stuck and repeats the same thing over and over.  It is driving me nuts!  Is there a way to begin the setup process without using the Voiceover system?  I am a new convert from a PC and I thought a Mac was supposed to be "intuitive!"
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

There is no good reason to register your Mac anyway.
You can opt out of the setup process and registration by pressing Command (Apple key) and the "Q" key.
The registration process requires you to divulge a lot of unnecessary information.

  • HT4889 I've already set up my new MacBook Pro, I want to migrate all my stuff from my old MacBook OS X 10.6.4. Will it wipe out the settings in the new computer?

I've already set up my new MacBook Pro, I want to migrate all my stuff from my old MacBook OS X 10.6.4. Will the migration wipe out the settings in the new computer?

Of course not. Migration Assistant will create a new user with the transferred files and settings, so your MacBook Pro won't get messed > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
You may want to merge both users > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472

  • Set up a new macbook pro without using voice over

How do I set up a new MacBook Pro without using Voice Over. I can't get past the initial Welcome screen. The VO commands do not work as indicated in the forced tutorial.

Just click the Next and or Continue button. Voice over only starts shortly after you get to one of those screens and you wait to long to input something or click on an option and then Next or Continue. I think at the bottom of the screen there is an option to turn off the Voice over.

  • Error message on set up on new Macbook pro

I just bought a new Macbook Pro and I am trying to install my Cs3 on it. Yes, a few versions behind
I had to transfer the set-up files from the DVD to a usb key, because the new macbook doesn't have a DVD drive.
I did this, initialized the set up, and it just gave me an error that said 'setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer support'
So is there another way to do this? It never asked for my serial number, or I guess it is a 'coupon code' which I obtained when I bought it during school. Can I use the migration assistant instead?
    Thanks!!

Copy the contents of the USB drive on your hard disk and run the installer from the hard disk. You will need the serial number for installation though. Refer to this document to find your serial number.
    Thanks

  • Migration assistant froze half way through me setting up my new MacBook and i can't reboot it?

I'm trying to set up my MacBook Pro but my internet connection is pretty dodgy so i was half way through transferring my files with the migration assistant when on my PC it came up with an error message. I restarted it on the PC, only there is no option to restart it on the Mac so I'm not sure what to do now. Help?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The only method to close Migration Assistant now is to hold the Power button until the computer turns off, and then, turn it on again. Maybe some of the files you wanted to transfer aren't on the MacBook, so you will have to start Migration Assistant again

  • New Macbook Pro set up is stuck on iCloud Drive upgrade screen

I am setting up a new macbook pro and have chosen the option to upgrade to iCloud Drive. After choosing to continue with that option, the spinning ball has been active for quite sometime. Is this normal? I am afraid to force restart as it is a brand new computer.

I had the same issue.  I logged in & registered the device SN (several other devices (SN's) are already associated with the account).  I don't know if this is simply coincidental or not, but as soon as I did that the new mac book pro continued into setup & eventually finished booting up & is now apparently pulling in user/account settings.  I still have to confirm the iCloud Drive setup, but so far at least it moved on past the 'spinning wheel.'

  • I just set up new macbook air yesterday and all my birthdays on calendar went to that day

I just set up my new macbook air yesterday-today I find that all the birthdays I had on the calendar on my ipad had transferred to being on October 16 (yesterday).  The birthdays on each individual contact has changed to that date also-have no idea now when my friend's/relatives birthdays are.

  • How do I transfer my data to my new macbook pro using an external hard drive?

I've already set up my new MacBook Pro is my issue. It asked me if I'd like to "Migrate" my stuff or use an external hard drive etc but at the time I didn't transfer my data from my old MacBook yet. I was going to manually do it later as I had to wait for my External hard drive to back my old Mac up. Now it's that time and I have no idea how to do it. I believe I've researched best of my ability.
I feel like I'm asking a pretty dumb question. If I were to just drag all my programs out like my Adobe Suite on to my new macbook pro would that work? I feel like that's just too easy and incorrect. Please and thank you.

The Adobe suite can be downloaded free, you dont have to copy it at all, under standard CS6 Adobe rules, if you own the suite, you get 2 computers "activated at any one time"  Make sure, if youre not using the older computer, you deactivate the software under the HELP menu in Adobe.
format the new drive in disk utility ......APPLICATIONS.....UTILITIES.....DISK UTILITIES.......select the external drive and format (if its new and empty!!!) under the ERASE button with Mac OSX extended journaled
copy all your important stuff from older computer , pics, files, documents, personal anything.
most of you apps, i ASSUME you bought in the (other than Adobe software, or Office suite, etc etc,..... obviously) in the MAC APP store, so you can reload them on the new computer without copying them , makes things very easy......just open APP STORE, and download what you already bought.
really the only important things , is copy all important work files, documents, pictures, personal ABC...XYZ......  obviously.
the migration is about emails, contacts, etc etc etc, also data, just because you passed it by at the time doesnt mean you still cant do it,    go to the SEARCH at menu at top and type in MIGRATION ASSISTANT  to do it again , since you passed it by at first .
the only thing you NEED / SHOULD copy is all your personal stuff........Applications need to be reinstall from either ONLINE download,.......or from the MAC APP STORE,........  you cant just copy the apps over (in most cases) and toss them onto the new computer
Nahh, there are no dumb questions, just dumb mistakes because you DIDNT ask any questions, and we all make those here and there.
