Setting up SSL for Weblogic Server10.3.1

I have read the doc http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/e13707/ssl.htm#i1194343 for Setting up SSL:
1) Obtain Certs and keys: Public Certificates and Private Keys
2) Store the private keys, digital certificates, and trusted CA certificates. Private keys and trusted CA certificates are stored in a keystore.
3) Configure the identity and trust keystores in the Admin console.
4) Set SSL configuration option for private key alias and password in Admin console.
step 1)
for the developement I'd use the demo certs offered by WLS install. I have found 4 certs in WLS_HOME\server\lib
and they are CertGenCAKey, CertGenCA, demo and trusted.
which are the Public Certificates? and the Private Keys? which ones should we use? Can we use them without any modifications ?
Or we should use CertGen to create the certs and keys?
TIA

2) Store the private keys, digital certificates, and trusted CA certificates. Private keys and trusted CA certificates are stored in a keystore.
3) Configure the identity and trust keystores in the Admin console.
4) Set SSL configuration option for private key alias and password in Admin console.
I have used CertGen created the following key and cert files
natcert.der, natcert.pem, natkey.der and natkey.pem
For creating the keystore from the private key, I use utils.ImportPrivateKey
steps (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/e13749/utils.htm#ADMRF151)
Convert the certificate from DER format to PEM format.
$ java utils.der2pem CertGenCA.der
Concatenate the certificate and the Certificate Authority (CA).
$ cat natcert.pem CertGenCA.pem >> newnatcerts.pem
Create a new keystore named natkeystore and load the private key located in the natkey.pem file.
$ java utils.ImportPrivateKey -certfile newnatcerts.pem -keyfile natkey.pem -keyfilepass natkey123 -keystore natkeystore.jks -storepass nat123 -alias natalias
Using Admin console to configure SSL
configuration > general > enable ssl port 7002
configuration > keytores > Custom Identity and Java Standard Trust
--- Identity -----------------
Custom Identity Keystore: $WLS_HOME/server/lib/natkeystore.jks
Custom Identity Keystore Type: jks
Custom Identity Keystore Passphrass: nat123
---Trust -----------------------
Java Standard Trust keystore: JDK_HOME/jre/lib/security/cacerts
Java Standard Trust keystore Type: jks
Java Standard Trust keystore PassPhrass: changeit
configuration > SSL
Identity and Trust Locations : Keystores
---- Identity ----------------------
Private key location: from custom identity keystores
Private key alias: natalias
Private key Passphrass: nat123
Certificate Location: from custom identity keystore
---- Trust -------------------------
Trust Certificate Authorities : from Java Standard Trust Keystores
I restarted the WLS and fail to access the SSL port.
Found following error mssages in the Admin server log:
<BEA-090716> <Failed to retrieve identity key/certificate from keystore \...\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\natkeystore.jks under alias natalias on server AdminServer>
<BEA-000297> <Inconsistent security configuration, weblogic.management.configuration.ConfigurationException: Failed to retrieve identity key/certificate from keystore \..\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\natkeystore.jks under alias natalias on server AdminServer>
<BEA-090034> <Not listening for SSL, java.io.IOException: Failed to retrieve identity key/certificate from keystore \..\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\natkeystore.jks under alias natalias on server AdminServer.>
<BEA-090171> <Loading the identity certificate and private key stored under the alias natalias from the jks keystore file \..\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\natkeystore.jks.>
By the way, it works if configured the keystores with the weblogic's demo identity and trusted.

  • Apache 2.2 21 forward Proxy 2 way SSL for weblogic server as a client

    Hi All,
    Currently, i am trying to implement a forward SSL proxy. The client will hit my apache server which in return will hit a IIS Server.
    scenarios 1
    client(weblogic)--*2 way SSL*Apache(forward proxy)*2 way SSL*-- IIS
    If i were to implement 1 way ssl, i am able to see the content of the website.
    client(weblogic) --- Apache(forward proxy) --- IIS
    If i were to launch the web browser from the client machine (with the client certificate imported in the browser), i am able to view the content in the IIS. But if i were to simulate the connection from weblogic server, it just give me end of file exception (response contain no data) on the logs.
    Below is my configuration
    Listen 8080
    <VirtualHost default:8080>
    ServerName serverA
    ErrorLog "logs/ssl_error_log"
    CustomLog "logs/ssl_access_log" common
    SSLProxyEngine On
    SSLProxyMachineCertificateFile /certificate/servercert.cer
    SSLProxyCACertificateFile /certificate/rootCA.cer
    SSLProxyVerify require
    SSLProxyVerifyDepth 10
    ProxyRequests On
    ProxyVia On
    AllowConnect 12345
    <Proxy *>
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Proxy>
    </VirtualHost>
    For 2 way SSL, will the client forward their client certificate to my apache proxy server and apache will on the client behalf forward the client certificate to the IIS server for authenication?
    Or the SSL authenication still happen between the client (weblogic) and the end server (IIS) bypassing the proxy server.
    Please help.

    It is a domain wide setting. Can you not create a new domain? I do not think that you can handle it from web.xml. I have never seen such thing in web.xml.

  • Issues faced while setting up SSL for ADS (Java + ABAP)

    Hi,
    Connection test to test SSL connection to ADS using program FP_PDF_TEST_00 fails with the following exception:
    ERROR CODE    :    100.101
    ERROR MESSAGE : SOAP Runtime Exception: CSoapExceptionTransport : HTTP receive failed with exception communication_failure
    SOAP Framework error: SOAP Runtime Exception: CSoapExceptionTransport : HTTP receive failed with exception communication_failure(100.101).
    I have exchanged certifcate between Java (ABAP stack client certificate uploaded in trusted CA, also assigned to SSL port socket and is asigned to ADSUSER) and ABAP stacks for authentication.
    Using web service navigator to test the ADS web service fails too:
    https://cx8.vshodc.lntinfotech.com:50001/AdobeDocumentServicesSec/Config?style=rpc
    It displays the page to enter userid password. I have entered correct credentails still the same page is displayed on selecting SUBMIT.
    Any help on this would be highly appreciated!

    http://www.bea.com/support/askbea/wls/S-07188.shtml
    This issue attempts to explain what a "certificate chain file" is for. I still don't understand why this is so difficult. Where do I get this from?
    At the end of the article it points me here:
    http://www.verisign.com/repository/root.html
    And vaguely tells me to convert the unspecified format on that page using a utility from OpenSSL. The format on that page is NOT .pem, what is it? Which utility do I use, and HOW do I convert the root server CA on that page to .der format?
    Thanks for tips!

    Unfortunately this is a missleading exception you are getting.
    Here is a suggested workaround (at-least to get SSL working )
    https://www.verisign.com/server/prg/browser/root.html
    I have been meet same question as you.

  • How can i set a path for my deployment files in weblogic server 10.3

    Hi
    How can i set the path for my WAR ,JAR files while deploying.i am using the wls10.3 version.
    is there any scripts for this ,please provide me.
    my Application is ADF 11g application.

    By "path", I assume you mean "classpath".
    The simplest way is simply to include the jars you need inside the web application or web module's WEB-INF/lib directory, EJB module's META-INF/lib directory, or EAR lib directory.
    If that's not practical, if you use NodeManager to start your servers, you can go to the "Server Start" tab in the server definition in the WebLogic console and edit the "Classpath" field, which defaults to no value. You can specify a classpath value there. Note that if you specify a value there, it REPLACES the default classpath for the server, it doesn't add to it. If you need to just add to it (a much more likely scenario), if the value references the value "$CLASSPATH" in it, that will reference the original classpath value that the server would have had.
    So, for instance, if you wanted to include the MQ jars in the server classpath, you could set a value like this:
    /usr/java/mq/lib/mq.jar:/usr/java/mq/lib/mqstuff.jar:$CLASSPATH

  • Setting cipher suites for ssl sockets

    Hi
    While setting cipher suites for ssl serversocket and socket, there may be lot of stream ciphers and block ciphers in the list. (also there may or may not be anonymous cipher suites).
    How does the ssl socket decide which cipher suite to use?
    Sorry for this newbie question.
    Thank you.

    Have you read the JSSE Reference Guide? It has a really good description of how the SSL handshake works. Part of the "Client Hello" step includes sending all the cipher-suites the client has enabled. The server picks the "best" of that set, that the server also supports, and sends it back as part of the "Server Hello". Both sides switch to that set.
    Now, what "best" means isn't defined. I'm not sure what criteria the server uses to determine that. Maybe someone else reading the thread can chime in.

  • Do i need a high perf SSL offloader (Like Array Networks APV) for WebLogic

    we are thinking of deploying Array Networks Load Balancers for WebLogic clusters. The primary goal is to offload SSL from the host OS machine, as we are expecting very high SSL traffic in the range of 2000 to 3000 transactions/sec. Is it a good idea to deploy 3rd party SSL offloaders like Array Networks APV load balancers. The peak throughput requirements are around 250 Mbps at best. But the transaction rate is what is killing us........
    -thanks
    sikris

    I use a Cisco AP (1252G), with antenna air-ant2410y-r. I use 3 antennas (to support 802.11n), for a big exhitibition. On the both (around the booth), there are around 35 different wireless networks. The problem is that sometimes we have some disconnections (with iPad), ok with android tablets.
    And you still want to use 802.11b????
    Androids and iPads support 802.11a.

  • Setup issues: Apache plugin for Weblogic

    Hi,
    I've spent couple of days without success trying to configure apache plugin for weblogic. I've configured in accordance with bea documentation and it works fine in windows environment but fails in Solaris 9.
    Plugin log file says it's processed the request successfully but I see error message in browser saying it can't find the jsp file. It works fine if I access the weblogic box directly without going through apache.
    I'm using Weblogic 8.1 SP2, single server.
    Please find below the messages appear in browser, plugin logs, and apache version.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    =================Plugin Logs End================

    Yes it is IBM Http Server, but it works fine from Windows accessing the same weblogic server I'm trying to connect from Solaris.
    I see 500 error in the apache access log file.
    I've also tried with by setting "MaxRequestsPerChild" to 0 in the apache config file but no good.
    Please find below httpd.conf file content.
    ==============httpd.conf===============
    ServerName eus0000168.eu.verio.net
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/opt/IBMIHS" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/opt/IBMIHS/logs/foo.log".
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available
    # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "/opt/IBMIHS"
    # The accept serialization lock file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK.
    #LockFile logs/accept.lock
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.
    KeepAliveTimeout 10
    ## Server-Pool Size Regulation (MPM specific)
    # worker MPM

    ### Section 2: 'Main' server configuration
    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
    # server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
    # <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # If you wish httpd to run as a different user or group, you must run

    # . On SCO (ODT 3) use "User nouser" and "Group nogroup".
    # . On HPUX you may not be able to use shared memory as nobody, and the
    # suggested workaround is to create a user www and use that user.
    # NOTE that some kernels refuse to setgid(Group) or semctl(IPC_SET)

  • OSB: Implementing 2 way ssl for a particular proxy

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement to implement 2 way ssl support for one of our OSB proxy and 1 way ssl support for all other proxies in our project.
    we have enabled HTTS on OSB and configured 2-way ssl on weblogic server. It is working fine.
    But the 2 way ssl configuration on weblogic server impacts all other proxy services deployed on that node. Because of weblogic configuration "Two Way Client Cert Behavior: Client Certs Requested and Enforced", the server expects all request to present the client certificate..
    But our requirement is, Only 1 proxy service should enforce 2-way ssl, all other proxies should only support 1 -way ssl(server authentication).
    Is there any way to implement our requirement?.
    we want to configure weblogic with "Two Way Client Cert Behavior: Client Certs Requested but not and Enforced OR Client Certs NOT Requested" and then in the proxy service we want to enforce client certificate..
    Is it possible to implement? If so can anyone help to explain the steps?
    Thanks in advance

    It is a domain wide setting. Can you not create a new domain? I do not think that you can handle it from web.xml. I have never seen such thing in web.xml.

  • Apache plugin for Weblogic not forwarding entire X509 certificate chain

    I really hope there's someone out there that can help with this. I've spent all week trying various things to make this work.
    SUMMARY
    It doesn't appear that the Weblogic plugin (mod_wl_20.so) for Apache (2.0.49) sends the entire X509 certificate chain sent from a client to Weblogic (9.2).
    DESCRIPTION
    We have Apache set up to accept client certificates over SSL. This authentication process is successful. When viewing the weblogic plugin log, I can see the headers that are being sent to weblogic:

    The key here seems to be WL-Proxy-Client-Cert. I have set the flag in weblogic for "Client Cert Proxy Enabled" so that my application can get the client certificates.
    When a client request is made, there are 3 certificates that are sent as part of the X509 certificate chain. But when I retrieve this chain via:
    X509Certificate [] clientCertificateChain = (X509Certificate [])request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.request.X509Certificate");
    The length of this array is only 1! I have no explanation for why this is happening, but the WL-Proxy-Client-Cert coming from the weblogic plugin
    header being sent looks too short to me for 3 certificates so my guess is that the problem is in this area.
    Here's my weblogic plugin configuration in apache:
    <Location /ddm>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    WebLogicCluster denwlsd1:7711
    WLLogFile /tmp/wl_proxy.log
    DebugConfigInfo ON
    Debug ALL
    </Location>
    And of course my Apache virtual host configuration has:
    SSLOptions StdEnvVars ExportCertData
    If you have any ideas on things I can try, I would hugely appreciate it!!!
