Setup of archive file on apple "Mail"

Can anybody please advise me on how to setup archiving and retrieval of email on my "Mail" client using Mountain Lion or where to find that information?

Hey Sebastian Carmichael,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you wish to setup an Archive of Mail in OS X Mountain Lion. The following article may assist you in doing so:
Mail (Mountain Lion): Archive messages
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11724
As outline in the article, you can also customize the toolbar to include an archive button:

Thanks,

  • How to avoid messages going automatically to the archive folder in Apple Mail?

Dear list members, I've been using Apple Mail (version 7.3 (1878.6)) on my MacBook Pro 13" (9,2) (MacOS 10.9.4) for years to integrate my GMail, university, and other e-mail accounts in the imap mode. Since some weeks, Mail is behaving odd: some messages are sent automatically to the archive folder. That's quite annoying, as I have to move them manually back to the inbox folder, and sometimes I mess some messages. I did not change any config in Apple Mail or my e-mails servers. Could you please help me solve this problem? Thanks.

The Archive folder in Apple Mail is linked to the All Mail "label" in Gmail. A label is treated like an IMAP folder, but it really isn't the same thing.
In case you weren't aware, Gmail saves every email you send or receive inside the All Mail label. In Gmail, you can tag a file with multiple labels. So, a file that comes into Gmail appears in two places at once, the Inbox and All Mail. When you trash a file, the Inbox label is removed, but it still remains in All Mail.
Previously, the All Mail label was hidden from you in Mail. Apple has been trying to make Mail work with Gmail, but that hasn't been going well.
I have never had a problem, but I have both Gmail and Apple Mail set up such that any email I trash actually gets deleted and not stored on the Gmail server. I also have it set to no display the All Mail folder at all.  This may not be a fix as others have similar setups, but have problems with Gmail.
This is how I set it up. I followed the original article, not the Part Deux article. However, you don't need to change the IMAP path prefixes or the label names in Gmail settings. I just have the part where I configured it to delete the emails when I trash them, and hid all the Labels I didn't care to see in IMAP.
Remember, this may not resolve your problems. I don't know of another "fix."

  • How could i import .olm outlook files to apple mail on osx mountain lion

Recent days i have decided to use apple mail. So i export my Outlook data .olm files . but could you please help me how i could import this .olm files into apple mail.
i am using osx mountain lion

I goggled your question and came up with this:

  • How do you drag a file into Apple Mail when it's full-screen?

I love the full-screen mode for Apple Mail.  However, when I attach files to mail messages, I prefer to drag files to my message (since they often come from various finder windows I might have open).  However, in Mission Control or via swiping, I couldn't find a way to drag and drop a file in there.
I also tried dragging the file to the Mail icon on the dock, which spring-loaded the full-screen Mail app, but when I tried to drop it into the New Message window, it flashed but nothing happens.
Kinda annoying you can separate the New Message window into a separate mail window.  Often I like having my New Message window dragged to another desktop so I can type an email in the context of reviewing and image mockup, etc.
    Conrad

I guess for me, sometimes I start typing the email and then decide to attach something.  Or want to attach files from different folders to a single email.  Your tip unforunately doesn't work in those cases.  Maybe it's just me, but attaching files often is the last thing I do right before I send the mail.

  • After i had my hard drive replaced, i've gone to get my old emails and am unable to find them on time machine. The file com.apple.mail.plist isn't there. HELP!

Pretty sure this will be some sort of user error, but i'm lost.
I had to have my hard drive replaced, so before taking it to the genius bar, i backed up using time machine. I'd had issues with trying to use Carbon Copy Cloner previously so had formatted the external drive before doing time machine. TM seemed to work fine and copied what looked to be everything. Once i'd got the new hard drive in and went to restore everything, when i looked for the file i need to get to apparently get my mails back (Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist) it's not there.
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated.
    J

Turn Time Machine OFF temporarily in its preference pane. Leave the window open.
Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the disk image file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Find the one you want to restore from. There's a link named "Latest" representing the most recent snapshot. Use that one, if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to remember the date of the snapshot you choose.
Inside the snapshot folder is a folder hierarchy like the one on the source disk. Find one of the items you can't restore and select it. Open the Info dialog for the selected item. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you may see an entry in the access list that shows "Fetching…" in the Name column. If so, click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate. Then delete the "Fetching…" item from the icon list. Click the gear icon below the list and select Apply to enclosed items from the popup menu.
Now you should be able either to copy the item in the Finder or to restore it in the time-travel view. If you use the time-travel view, be sure to select the snapshot you just modified. If successful, repeat the operation with the other items you were unable to restore. You can select multiple items in the Finder and open a single Info dialog for all of them by pressing the key combination option-command-I.
When you're done, turn TM back ON and close its preference pane.

  • Trying to import older .mbox files into Apple mail

I have been trying to import older .mbox files back into Apple mail over an hour.
No matter what I use in the import window, nothing seems to work.
If it imports it sends it to the mail downloads folder but nothing from that point on.
I can read text in TextEdit but it's all running together.
    OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard

I noticed on the left side way down past my last mail box folder ( long list) for the import .mbox files.
    Seems they were hidden !

  • How do I import my mbox file for Apple Mail?

I just did a clean install of my mac os on an iMac. Prior to the install, I exported my mail account to an external drive. I got an INBOX.mbox file/folder that's 4.32GBs. When I click the file, there is an "mbox" file and a "table_of_contents" file.
In Apple mail, I chose import mailboxes - Mail for Mac OS X - and clicked the file. It brings an INBOX folder into the ON MY MAC folder... but no mail. I have tried this a 1/2-dozen ways and cannot get my mail to reload. I assume it's there since the file is 4.32GB.
Anyone have thoughts on this? This is business mail that I need for sure. I feel confident that the files are there since the file is so big. What gives?

It's a mac drive, however, I got past that issue by copying the file to my desktop. The issue now is that it won't load all of the way. It crashes mail half way through. I get mail back to 2011 when it should go back to 2008.
    Thoughts?

  • Double clicking ics files in Apple Mail

Currenlty when I recieve an invite in my Apple mail it automatically adds to my ical. That's what I want.
But if I double click the ics file it only opens ical or brings ical to the front. It doesn't take me to the event in ical. Is there a way to change this? I could have swore it use to work that way.
I've tested this with invites from my domain and outside the domain as well as invites from gmail and yahoo. It seems the only way to go to the event is to open ical and click on the invite Notificaitons in the left side bar.

  • Apple Script For Opening External EML File With Apple Mail

    Hi folks,

I am working with Apple Script for implementing numerous function related to Mail App.

I am using the following Apple Script lines for opening the mails which are in Mail app for each modes.

View Mode : open theMsg

Reply View Mode : reply theMsg opening window yes

Reply All Mode : reply theMsg opening window yes reply to all yes

Forward Mode : forward theMsg opening window yes

I want to know how we can open external eml file in different view modes (View, Reply, Reply All and Forward) using Apple Script or Apple Event programmatically with a similar mechanism available through script in Mail App.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Nisar

I'm not sure what you're doing here, but this isn't anything I recognize as compilable applescript. what is this 'mode' thing you're talking about.
at any rate, if you have a loose emlx file sitting around somewhere you can simply open it in mail (use the 'open' command and the file specification for the emlx file) and work with it appropriately. if you're talking about an actual eml file (e.g. from Outlook Express) you'd have to GUI script Mail's 'import mailbox' command (the applescript handler for importing mail only works with Mail.app mailboxes)

  • How do I set up a mail archive from my Apple Mail app??

    Hi All,
I am new to my Mac (Mavericks OS) and need to set up e-mail archiving. I understand there are some issues with Gmail but I am not using a Gmail account. My e-mail is on a UK2.net server.
    Thanks in advance
    Gary

Unfortunately there's no way to do it directly on the ipad using Contacts. If you sync contacts with a computer, create the group there and re-sync. Or, sync with iCloud and set up the group on iCloud.com.

  • Import email archives from Outlook .pst to Apple Mail

I'm (finally) switching everything over from Windows to Mac, and want to know the easiest way to transfer years of email archives (sent and saved) from an Outlook .pst file into Apple Mail. I'm not using Entourage, but I have it, if that's the best conduit, but in the end, I want to use Apple Mail.

O2M formally known as Outllook2Mac or I believe there is an add-on for Entourage from Microsoft that provides for importing Outlook .pst files.
After importing the .pst files into Entourage, you can use Mail's Import Mailboxes feature selecting Entourage as the email client to import mailboxes/messages from.

  • Attaching photos to Apple Mail - error when attaching multiple files

    Hello,
My iPhoto just recently started giving me an error whenever I try to attach multiple files to Apple Mail. The error says:
"Mail got an error: Can't get paragraph 8 of
content of outgoing message id 321072192.
    Invalid index."
The only option allowed is to cancel. When I look at my Apple Mail it has created a message with the first selected photo attached, but none of the other photos are there. Any ideas of how to correct this? Is this an email client issue?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
This is a problem between iPhoto 4 and 10.5.
The workaround is to use the Photo Browser on the new Message Window in Mail, just drag the pic over from there:
