Several hour delay in receiving emails sent from mail?

for 3 years i've had a pop email account with yahoo and it has worked flawlessly with my apple mail program until a few days ago when people started telling me that the emails i sent took several hours to reach them. so, using mail, i sent myself a test and confirmed the delay. emails i send immediately appear in my "sent" folder yet they don't reach their intended recipients until hours later. this problem is intermittent. there was a brief window the other day when emails i was sending from mail were arriving quickly. but, the problem soon returned and persists now. the problem does not affect the receiving of emails with mail. in other words, i am receiving all emails with mail. the problem only affects emails i send using apple mail.
when i access my email account directly through yahoo to send emails, those emails arrive immediately.
i hope i have described the problem clearly enough and i thank the community in advance for any insight and/or suggestions.

If you select a message in Mail's message viewer, then select the menu item View > Message > Long Headers, the message headers will be displayed. Depending on how the message was routed, there may be several "Received" fields - these get added at each mail server that handles the message. Each "Received" field contains information such as IP addresses, host names, dates, and times - these can be used to tell how the message was routed and how long it took. Note that a sender can fake, or "spoof", their information (usually these are spammers), but once the message reaches real-world servers the information will be correct.

  • One Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from .mac

OK, this is an odd problem, and any help would be appreciated.
My girlfriend's Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from my .mac address. If I send email from my Gmail or Yahoo! accounts she receives the message. No one else has informed me that they haven't received email from the .mac address. Additionally, the .mac account is in her address book.
Anyway, has anyone seen a similar pattern with Yahoo! or any other email provider?
    Thanks.
    - Jennings

Thanks for the reply . . . and yes, the recipient's email provider likely holds the answer.
However, I was hoping someone here might have had a similar experience and could answer as the email provider is Yahoo, and they are slow in responding to help requests . . . for a period I hosted a personal, paid website through Yahoo Domains and help tickets lingered for several days on multiple occasions (this being the reason the site is no longer hosted by Yahoo). I also doubt Yahoo will expend too much energy resolving a problem for a free email account.
Anyway, I posted in the Yahoo mail forums, and hopefully something will come-up . . . .

  • Can't receive emails sent from Windows Mobile

After much troubleshooting, I've found that I can't receive emails sent from Windows Mobile users. I never noticed the issue until recently, but I can't pinpoint when the problem began: Leopard 10.5.2, Mail 3.2... not sure.
When a Windows Mobile user sends me an email, it just doesn't show up in my inbox. It does show up in a web client, my iPhone, and in Thunderbird, so I know the mail is being delivered to my mailbox on the server. However, there is no corresponding message located in ~/Library/Mail, so it looks like the message isn't being downloaded from the server. I have emails before and after the stubborn email message, so it hasn't interfered with anything else that I can tell.
Anyone else been able to pinpoint this issue and figure out a fix or workaround? Anyone have any ideas?

I am experiencing precisely the same issues. Messages from Windows Mobiles v.6 (more than just a single handset) are not being displayed in Mac Mail 3.2
I have tried rebuilding mailboxes and changing the IMAP port connecting with Exchange server. The mail is there as I can see it in Outlook, OWA, and OMA
Similar situation to you in that I have no idea when this started to happen, but it can only be in the last 3-4 weeks max.
Please, if anybody has a fix or workaround, or knows what changes have been made to Mac Mail in the last few weeks.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Random delay in receiving emails in Apple Mail

    Hi Everyone:
I've searched online about this problem but I didn't find anything helpful for my situation. I'm hoping someone here can help me. The problem I'm having is that there is a delay in receiving emails in Apple Mail—and it's happening in random. Here's a list of things that pertain to the problem:
    1. Delays in receiving emails vary from 1 hour to 1 day. The delayed emails are actually sitting on the incoming email server and can be seen via webmail using a browser. So, to me, apparently this is a problem with Apple Mail not downloading the new email where it's clearly received on the server.
    2. The same delayed email, when resent by the sender a few times, randomly downloaded by Apple Mail in no particular order. One of the resent emails arrived with no delay while others are delayed again. This is one same email from one same sender.
    3. This problem happens on Macs running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.x), Lion (10.7.x), and Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x). Different Macs, different email user accounts, same domain name. But, some other Macs with other user accounts on the same domain name have never had this problem ever.
    4. Besides this problem of delayed emails, I've also noticed another problem that seems to tag along: read emails or trashed emails will show up in the Inbox as unread/new emails the next day.
The steps I've taken so far:
    1. Talked and had the email server provider checked the server and the delayed emails with long headers, and they found nothing wrong with the email server functions. I concurred as I can see the emails not delayed if I use the webmail/browser.
    2. Rebuilt the email account in Apple Mail, reset keychain to the email account, clear cache, fixed permissions on the Mac with the problem.
    And the problem persists...

I am having a similiar problem with emails sent to my 10.6 xserve.
I have noticed most, if not all, of the problems are connected to email coming from google servers i.e. [email protected]  As I also administer a google business account I contacted Google and when they looked into it indicated this sometime has something to do with google's 'Undo Send" function.  However in my case google is indicating it is an issue on my server with no further explination.

  • Gmail cannot receive email sent from SBO-Mailer

    Dear All,
I can receive emails from SBO-Mailer to my company email. My colleague can also receive email sent to her company email. However, I can not receive email if it is sent to my gmail or hotmail or yahoo. Did I miss something?

    Hi,
You may try to use this sap note solution if probably you are interested to use gmail smtp :
SBO Mailer doesn't work in Login Authentication mode
    Symptom
You test connection in SBO mailer with Login Authentication mode unsuccessfully and the error message below is shown:
    Login authentication failed. or
Login authentication not supported by SMTP server.
Also, you fail to send emls in SAP Business One with Login Authentication mode.
    Other terms
    SMTP
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Consulting
    Solution
This is usually because of wrong settings in SBO mailer. Gmail for example, you should set as the following:
    SMTP Server: smtp.gmil.com
    SMTP Port: 587
    Username: ***@gmil.com
    Password: ****
    Encoding: English (United States)
    SMTP Client: Microsoft .NET
    Authentication: Basic Authentication
    Use TLS Encryption: Yes
If you choose Microsoft .NET as SMTP Client, the "test connection" button in SBO mailer is invalid but it can still send emails in SAP Business One.

  • Cannot sort emails sent from Mail App and Exchange

When trying to sort emails on Outlook in Windows, lets say by "Flag", emails coming from a mac using mail app and exchange get placed at the top of the list.
Have tried sending emails from the same account via webmail and iphone and they get sorted correctly.
    Anyone has had this problem?

    So, Here's what happens:
    1) Send email from Laptop (Snow Leopard) with Exchange Integration
    2) Send email from iPhone (3.1) with Exchange Integration
In Outlook 2003 sort by flag (neither of these messages are flagged). Any email sent from the Snow Leopard is sorted first in the Unflagged category in Outlook. Any of the email sent from the iPhone is sorted normally.
There's no differences in the headers to cause these to sort differently. The only headers that differ are the Date, Subject/Thread-Topic, Thread-Index, Message-ID, x-ems-stamp. But, in the Message-ID it has the same domain.
Both Snow Leopard and iPhone are configured to use the same Exchange OWA/OWS.

  • Email sent from Mail (Mavericks) not getting received!?

When I send an email it leaves the Outbox and winds up in Sent, but it is not received at the other end. It  disappears into the void: no error message, no bounce notification, nothing. It's hard to say how long this has been going on since I have no way of knowing which emails were received and which weren't.
My email is hosted with Bluehost. (I have a ticket open with them but they take up to 72 hours to respond.) According to Connection Doctor their SMTP server is working. Mail sent via their webmail interface works fine. Nor is it any particular receiving domain; test mails to my Gmail and Yahoo accounts were also not received.
I have all kinds of other complaints about Mail (in particular with search) that I've chosen to live with but this problem is obviously intolerable. Is there anything I can try while I wait for Bluehost to verify that the server's working?
[Mail 7.2 (1874) with PGP plugin installed; turning off PGP gives the same result.]

  • Help! Email sent from Mail just disappears!

Hi, all. For the past couple of days, I've been having a bizarre problem with my Mail software. When I send an email, the recipient does not receive it, and it's not saved in my Sent folder. (I have my Accounts prefs set to save all Sent mail.)
This problem started suddenly. I have not downloaded any new software recently.
    I'm using OS 10.6.3 and Mail 4.2.
If I log on to my ISP's Web mail site, I can send and receive any test messages just fine. But if I try to send myself a test email from within Mail, I never get it, and it's not saved in my Sent folder.
I'd love to be able to send email from within Mail again. Can someone tell me what's going on, and how to fix it? Alternatively, is there an online support service from Apple that I could contact?
I'm a longtime Mac user and I love it, until things like this happen!
    Thanks very much,
    Heather

I also need to mention that the "rebuilding icon" on the Sent folder, in the Folders list, is constantly spinning, as if it's constantly rebuilding the folder. It's as if it's trying to find something, to finish the rebuilding, but can't get to it. ??? I've watched the icon for a bit, and it NEVER stops.
    Again, thanks for any help.

  • Emails sent from mail showing up as double in Eudora

Hi, When sending mail to people at work (I'm on Mac Mail, they're on Eudora version 7) the message sometimes comes up as double, as in the text just repeats itself within the message.
I'm trying to work out the when exactly it does it but to know avail.
It's happened with the following types of mail:
Email to a list, with attachement.
Email to single person, with attachement.
But then again, it doesn't always happen when emailing a single person, with an attachement.
I know there was a thread on jpegs coming up double but that was for emails received in mail.
    Most curious. Any thoughts?
    Many thanks.

When you send a rich-text e-mail, the actual message contains two different versions of the text: one in rich text, one in plain text. E-mail clients are supposed to choose the appropriate one to use. Evidently, Eudora is not doing that correctly.

  • Outlook crashes when replying to email sent from Mail

Two of my staff are reporting that when they send email to people using Outlook, the recipient's outlook crashes when they try to reply.
Has anyone experienced this? i've checked smtp servers, corrupt fonts etc.
it seems to happen inconsistantly (i use outlook myself and have no problems).

Frank thanks for bringing this post back up. I thought for sure it would go unnoticed. It seems to me that there is currently nothing the Geniuses can do about it - and because they claim it's an Android issue I doubt this will be addressed in the next iOS. Unless Android sends an update to their users fixing the problem - if it is an Android problem after all - then it looks like we are left to finding a solution on our own. Like I said previously, the only workaround I found is by "forwarding" the email and then manually entering the sender's address.

  • I have several email account setup on iphone.  for one of them can receive from/to emails from phone, but emails sent from computer not received on phone.  phone shows receiving but does not come thru

I have iphone 4s with several email accounts set up.  For one of these accounts, and only one, test emails sent from phone come thru fine.  But computer generated mail doesn't come to phone.  For test messages phone shows "receiving" but nothing comes to inbox.  External sent mail does not  come to phone inbox, but does to outlook on computer.  Have checked settings and these seem correct.  What's up?  Four other accounts work fine.

If you can send e-mail when on WiFi from home, but not when on 3G, that indicates your email provider is blocking e-mail being sent from outside their network. This is done to control Spam. ISPs who do this will usually have a separate SMTP server that should be used when using a mobile device. Check with them again.

  • TS3276 An email sent from my iMac has a button linked to a clip hosted on Vimeo. When received, the link functions on iMac and iPad, but opens a window of app icons on iPhone and iPod touch. Any ideas what's wrong?

An email sent from my iMac has a button linked to a clip hosted on Vimeo. When received, the link functions on iMac and iPad, but opens a window of app icons on iPhone and iPod touch. Any ideas what's wrong?

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

  • Receiving emails sent to myself from Mail

For educational en printing reasons I often have to send files to myself via email. Emails sent from my own address using Mail don't ever appear in my Mail inbox.
They do however appear in my Mail inbox when I use the regular Internet browser to send myself emails via my Gmail account.
    Can this be fixed?
Also, can someone tell me why Mail is putting emails sent from the Gmail application (on my Nokia E61) in my Mail inbox? I thought that maybe this Gmail app sends sent emails to the Gmail server and then to my Gmail account, and Mail just registers these sent/'saved' emails as new mail. That would make some kind of sense.
    Kind regards,
    Billy.

These are all Gmail issues. Mail has absolutely no bearing on them. Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which will cause everything (and I mean everything) still there to be downloaded again. Alternatively, if you only want to download the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode” as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone.
    4. Messages created and sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were incoming messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings were changed as described in 2 above.
    6. As a particular case of 5, messages sent to yourself will appear in your Inbox on the web, but cannot be downloaded by either the same or any other POP mail client without proceeding as described in 2.

  • Major delays in receiving emails

I have been experiencing serious delays in receiving emails at my .mac account. I have seen a number of other people post about this problem, but none of those threads contains an answer, unfortunately! (And all of those topics are now archived so I can't add to them.) What I discovered from those threads is that this problem has nothing to do with the .mac server status. When I check my mail via webmail, I can see all the mail in there without delay, but it's when I try to use the mac mail program that I experience delays. One person will email four times in the same hour, and I will receive two of those emails immediately, and the the other two won't show up for another 12 hours. I use this mail account for my business, but I won't be able to continue doing so if I can't figure this out...
Those other people were experiencing this problem in Jan/Feb/March/April... I just started experiencing this problem a few weeks back. Some days it's fine, but most days at least 5-10 of my emails are delayed by 6-12 hours.
    Thanks for any help!
