SF2 in garageband 3.0 how to?

Can anybody give me a step by step method of using SF2 files in 3.0? I downloaded them put them in the proper folder (according to some sites) but can't get them to show up in my software instrument browser.

To make sure they're installed right, since I can't know what other sites said:

  • Hello, can I still play Garageband 9 projects/loops in Garageband 10, and how? Thank you

    Hello,
Can I still play GarageBand 9 projects/loops in GarageBand 10, and how?
Do I need to re-install iLife11 to be able to play GarageBand 9 projects/loops in 11?
    Thanks in advance

GarageBand 10 needs the loops and instruments from Garageband ´09 or ´11 installed to be able to play the older projects with all sounds. Otherwise instruments and loops may be missing. If you uninstalled GarageBand completely, reinstall iLife '11 to be able to use the older instruments and loops in GarageBand 10. before you install GarageBand 10.0.
GarageBand 10. comes only with a basic set of instruments and needs to be expanded by an in-app purchase. If you have GarageBAnd '11 installed, you should be able to get the in-app purchase for free.   Expanding GarageBand for Mac (v10.0) content with an in-app purchase

  • How do you install a sound font (.sf2) onto Garageband 10?

I've been looking all over the place to figure this out, but I've found nothing. How do you install a .sf2 file onto garageband 10? I used to be able to install it using the DLS music device, but as far as I know, that's not in Garageband 10.

I am seeing the DSL music device in the Audio Units section of the Smart Controls. But maybe it is a left-over from GarageBand 11.
Open the Smart Controlds and click the Audio Units > Instrument brick.
Then select "Au Instruments > Apple".
But I did not check, if soundfonts still will work this way. Tell us, when you try.
    Regards
    Léonie
I nearly forgot - if you have not already done so, you need to enable the Audio Units in the GarageBand Preferences, in the Audio/Midi brick, Effects:

  • Accidentally deleted Garageband from iPad - how to get it back?

My daughter accidentally deleted the Garageband app from her new iPad Air - how do I get it back?
It came pre-installed on the iPad, hence when you go to the App store, it does not show as downloadable for free, or in the cloud, you have to pay for it.
Also this iPad has never been backed up to a desktop Mac, so a "restore" from a Mac is not an option either.
    Any help appreciated.  Thanks.

Yes, try to contact the AppStore Support, if GarageBand does not show on your Updates/Purchases for downloading again (Download past purchases - Apple Support)
The problem is, that the price for GarageBand changed after the GarageBand 2.0 upgrade from free to 5$.  Previously the app was free, but the additional sounds needed to be purchased, and now the app is no longer free, but the additional sounds are. If you did not previously buy the additional sounds, you may not be listed as having purchased the app.

  • Garageband file glitched, how can I get it back?

So, I have been working on my demo for quite some time, and a few days ago, one of my songs glitched out. Not sure what hapened though. I saved it and exported it to itunes as a m4a file, closed it and saved a preview (thank goodness), but the .band file seems to have given random tempos to every track except drums and guitar.
So, here's the deal, the begginings of all the tracks are lined up correctly, but the audio inside the region is completely out of sync. areas that had been trimmed are trimmed at the wrong spots, the tempos are off from each other, and no matter what I do manually to try and align them, they just WON'T align. it's very frustrating. I could re-record, but that would take days and money I don't have. Please help.
Also, the file in the Garageband splash screen is doubled, taking both the first spots, but if I click on either one, it highlights both of them. I have no clue how this happened, but hopefully I can get it fixed. Just wish I had the money to get a time machine a few weeks before this happened.

i think all tempo information for recorded audio is owned and stored with the track, not the region (or audio file itself)
if this is correct you might be able to rescue the performances:

  • IMovie 11' keeps audio I deleted in GarageBand Movie Track, How do I get rid of it?!

    Hey all,
Here is what I did excatly . . . Operating a Mac Book Pro 2013, OS 10.9.1 Maverick
I recorded a guitar recital with an HD camera that picked up sound. I simultaneasly recorded the recital with nice mics straight into GarageBand. I imported the video into Garageband and DELETED the audio that imported with the movie (Movie Track in Garageband) and replaced it with the audio I recorded straight into Garage Band. I synced up the audio with the movie and voila, I exported it as a Quicktime Movie to then import into iMovie 11'. The Quicktime Movie I export from GarageBand sounds exactly right, the oringinal audio is gone and is perfectly replaced by the recorded audio.
Before iMovie 11' I would import it in and cut up the event to make into smaller projects of each student performing and share it with their parents. In iMovie 11' the ORIGINAL sound imports along with the GarageBand tracks. Why is it doing this?! Please help if you can

You cannot edit clips in Events in iMovie 10, only clips in project timelines.  If you want to split long clips you have to do it before importing, for example uing Quicktime 10 or 7.
I don't know exactly what Garage Band does when you substitute audio track but evidently the original audio is still present.  I would deal with this within iMovie.  Import the video (after splitting into pieces if necessary) and import the sound track you recorded that you want to use.  Put the video into a project timeline.   Then put the audio track you want below the clip so you have two audio tracks.  Use the old audio to help with synchronisation (comparing the waveforms).  When this is done detach the old audio from the clip and trash it.   Voila!
    Geoff.

  • Garageband/photoshop users: how does the MBP handle them well?

since these are important apps for me before i buy
can any of you pros tell me how its handling
complex songs/photo files, RAW imaging and the like.
im sure im not the only one interested in this area.
is it faster and more powerful than its predecessors?
    thanks
    gl

Garageband will be fine, since it's already Intel Native. Photoshop however is not and will run under Rosetta. If you are a heavy photoshop user you will notice the speed difference.

  • Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for GarageBand. I downloaded a trial version of reMIDI, which enables MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated, but can't get it to work in Garageband.  How do I set it up?

Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for Garageband ('08)? The program allows MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated. I have a trial version, but can't get it to work in Garageband. Wonder how to set it up.
    Thanks, Doctor Mark

Port Forwarding.....or Port Mapping....as Apple calls it is a difficult and complex configuration method for most users. Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course.

  • How to use an Aggregate device for Garageband (iLife '11)

    Here is what I have,
    Komplete Audio 6 interface (USB)
    M-Audio Mobile Pre interface (USB)
    2010 Macbook (white) running OS X 10.6.8
    Garageband from iLife '11
I found out (supposedly) how to use both of the interfaces together by creating an Aggregate device.
I have gone through all the setup steps to create an aggregate device and put both interfaces on the Aggregate list to be used.
HERE IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT!
When I open Garageband and designate the Aggregate device as my sources of hearing and recording (Input and Output), the M-Audio doesn't even register sound. When I hook up the M-audio interface by itself, it works. Same with the Komplete interface. They work perfectly individually. But together, Garageband only recognizes channels 1 & 2 coming from the the Komplete interface.
    1) How do I make it so both show up as recording to Garageband?
    2) How can I hear them in my headphones (monitors)?
    Thank you!

Maybe an alternative would be to put this logic into the select.
    select u.object_name,
           u.object_type,
           count(case when u.object_type = 'TABLE' then 1 end) over () count_tables,
           count(case when u.object_type = 'VIEW' then 1 end) over () count_views
from user_objects u;This would count the number of tables and views in the data dictionary. And it is returned as a column value.

  • How to use track effects with new version of GarageBand

In the version of GarageBand before this one, you could access different effects that you could manage and apply to the different tracks.  Each track had an area containing its set of effects that were either activated or deactivated.  With this removed, i am not sure how to add those same kind of effects.  I am aware of the new nobs that are provided in order to mix and edit trebles, bass, mid, etc., but i want to be able to add different effects such as voice transformer, flanger, chorus, speech enhancer, bit crusher, bass amp, track echo, track reverb, amplifier, etc.  I desperately need help finding out how to do this, as this was a major part of my mixing and producing with GarageBand, and without these given effects, i do not feel as comfortable using GarageBand.

  • I did a clean re-install of OSX Mountain Lion...lost iPhoto, garageband.... how do I get it back?

I just perform a clean reinstall of my OSX, everything went well, however, I just realized that i Lost the iPhoto and garageband app. How do I get it back? Please advise.

You should know that OS X hasn't got iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand preinstalled, so you have to install them manually after reinstalling OS X.
If your Mac didn't come with DVDs or you purchased those apps in the App Store, open App Store > Purchases, and download iPhoto and GarageBand.
If your Mac came with DVDs or you didn't purchase those apps in the App Store, insert the Applications DVD or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 that came with your Mac, and install iLife applications. Then, open  > Software Update to install the latest version

  • How can I change the pitch of a track?

In Garageband 10.03, how can I change the pitch of a track?
It seems that I somehow mistakenly changed the pitch of a guitar track I had recorded, so that al the notes in the track sound like they're about an octave too high.
I don't know how I did that, and how to make the pitch slider appear so that I can try to lower the pitch.
I saw three Youtube videos that show how to change a track's pitch by using the pitch slider, but none of them explain how to make the pitch slider appear.
The pitch slider is supposed to appear in the lower, left corner of my window, but it doesn't appear in my window.  Instead the lower, left corner of my window says things like, Region, Notes, Time Quantize, Strength and Transpose.

There's much to learn in Garageband!
If you want a comprehensive introduction to the new GarageBand, have a look at Edgar Rothermich's book:
Edgar's "GarageBand 10.0 How it Works"  explains it very well with many screenshots. You can buy it as iBook from the Book store, as PDF,  or as printed book from Amazon, Only, this version of the manual has been written for GarageBand 10.0.1, Some features have changed slightly since then.

Custom Install GB directly from the system DVD #1 that originally came w/your computer.  Follow the onscreen custom install instructions.  GB is either inside the Bundled Software or Applications folder.

  • How much disk space necessary for a Mac OS 10.4.7 partition?

I'm planning to replace the stock 80GB HD in my G4 iMac with a 320GB seagate HD. I'll partition it into 3 parts: 1) OS and Apps
    2) Music and Photo libraries
    3) FCE workspace
How much space should I reserve in the first partition for Mac OS X 10.4.7, iLife 06 and a bunch of additional apps such as iWork, Microsoft Office, Photoshop elements 4, FCE HD 3.5 and Soundtrack and Garageband loops?

How much are you using now? or don't you have those programs currently?
I would go 'backwards' and try to guess what you think you need for #2 and #3.
You also want to leave "ample" space for iDVD to work with temp space for burning etc (32GB).
It is rarely perfect no matter what the partition scheme. And as a drive fills, it tends to bog down as you get to 65% full.
I'll say you are going to need at least 80GB plus 32GB and you still want to have 40GB (half of 80GB) free as well. Or, about half your new drive.
Maybe even another 320GB FW drive for your music and photo libraries would make sense.
One of the reasons I stopped short of buying iMacIntel and went with the Mac Pro. At least 4-5 hard drives, 2-16GB RAM. And FW800 and option to use eSATA at some point.
