SG 2014 w/Matrox MX02 Mini - audio glitch

With previous version, I could not get SG to display on my external monitor via Matrox - at all. It was not an option. Now with 2014 and the latest Matrox driver, I can output through the Matrox, but the audio is choppy. As if it has latency issues. I've tried changing the settings under "display" and "audio" but to no avail. Anyone else using this combination? If so, does it work for you? I have no issues with the same setup, same computer and PP, AE, or Avid MC.

Thanks for the reply penguin!
I tried adding it to the kernel, but it did not work. I think usb_hid is just for usb keyboards/mouses/etc.
I noticed that every time I remove and plugin my flash drive /var/log/messages.log says something slightly different for my flash drive if that helps:

  • New Matrox MX02 mini not working

Just got a new Matrox MX02 Mini. I'v installed the PCIe card seemingly successfully - it's showing up in the system profiler under "Other Multimedia". I downloaded and installed the software package 2.0 from the Matrox site.
But when I go into Final Cut I get no option for Matrox under Video Playback. And no video or audio is playing through my Matrox (as far as I can tell).
I'm on a Mac Pro running 10.6.4 and Final Cut 6.0.6. Trying to go out from my Matrox HDMI to a Panasonic HD TV monitor and with audio going to external speakers.
    Thanks for any help.

Just got my new MXO2 Mini MAX, and it won't even power up. The pci-e card does NOT show up in the System Profiler under PCI cards. I tried the card in two other slots, still not showing up as being seen by the MacPro (2009 Quad Intel). The card also did not show up when installed in our other MacPro (2007 Intel). All cable connections, including power are according to Hoyle. Should I be seeing a light come on inside the MXO2 mini box? As it is now, no light, no life.
I pre-installed the driver, and in System Prefs the Matrox MXO2 mini icon reports: "..video hardware not found." The Product Name, S/N, and Firmware Version are all blank lines. Software version is 2.0.0.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Speedgrade with Matrox MX02 Mini

Has anyone had success getting SG to display on an external monitor via Matrox MX02 Mini? PP, AE, even PS can output to the monitor via Matrox MX02, but not SG. If I delete the PluginCache64 folder in regedit, it will show up as a display option the next time I launch, but then if I close and relaunch SG, it's no longer an option. Matrox says it should work. Adobe support says it doesn't but maybe in the next version. Anyone got a fix? I am on Windows 7 64-bit. :atest Matrox driver (installed after CC).

Second display works on my MacPro with the Matrox MXO2 mini MAX driver supporting Mavericks and Adobe CC (ver 4.1).  Only got external monitor with this recent driver release using current CC versions

  • FCP 7 and Matrox MX02 mini has bad audio playback

This problem has been frustrating me for months.
I have FCP setup to output video and audio via my marox MX02 mini. The mini is hooked up to HDMI and component, and RCA audio.
When playing back on the timeline in FCP the audio stutters, echos and drops out.
I've been bugging them at the Matrox forum, and each new update that comes out claims to fix the problem, and it gets a little better, but honestly it is still nowhere near satisfactory.
It's worst when stepping 1 frame at a time or scrubbing thru footage.
Does anyone else experience this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

What drivers are you running? What footage type are you working with? Format, frame rate...
    Thanks,
    Shane

  • Matrox MX02 Mini and FCP 7...

We have been using the MX02 Mini essentially for HD monitoring and have run across a few issues that have hindered productivity. It appears that one or two of these issues have been fixed in the latest 2.2.1 software release. The following remain. Has anyone experienced the same?
    1) Audio scrubbing... audio cannot be heard on a per frame basis, usually audio is heard every three
    frames or so.
Apparently this has not been fixed.
    2) Audio playback. In the viewer... Hit play... Playback begins but the audio drops out and then
resumes... hit stop and playback repeats the last bit of what was playing before you hit stop.
    3) Audio distorts, similar to an analog overdrive sound, when hitting play every 10 times or so.
Most of the projects that we are working with are Apple Pro Res 422 @ 23.98, Audio 48khz/16 bits.
Most of our computers are as described... 2 x 2.26GHz Quad Core Mac Pro running 10.6.6 and FCP 7.0.3.
Hard drives are local external 2TB G-RAIDs with plenty of room. We have check all of our media to make sure that it matches our sequence settings.
I realize that there are Matrox advocates out there, but we seem to have a hard time getting the MX02 Minis to work reliably.
All ideas are welcome. Note that we are working with Matrox support as well.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    1) Audio scrubbing... audio cannot be heard on a per frame basis, usually audio is heard every three frames or so. Apparently this has not been fixed.
Well, that actually is the main thing that was addressed in that update. I didn't have the issue for a while, then I upgraded to snow leopard, and there it was. But that was something with the 2.0 and first 2.1 drivers. But the latest driver that was just released, 2.1.1...fixes that. For a lot of people, me included:
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/132/860478
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/132/860397
As for the other issues, that are all audio related... they should have been addressed too.
Make sure to update PROPERLY. Uninstall the older drivers, then restart. Install the new drivers... and when the updates erase and then update the firmware, when the computer will shut down, and you need to unplug the MXO2 mini for at least 5 seconds, then plug it back in. Then start up the system.

  • I have a Power Mac G5 - How can I run Matrox MX02 mini max

I have a Power Mac G5 Running Mac OSX 10.5.8 I recently got the MX02 Mini Max by Matrox to run my Final Cut Studio application version 6.6 and Im having problems with the pci board that comes with the matrox unit ( it does not fit in the mother board) how would i be able to use this with out connecting the pci board into my mother board on my Mac.?

    Can't use it with a G5.
System requirements are Mac Pro and Intel-based MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 or higher.
IF (big if) the card is PPC Mac compatible, only Late 2005 G5 machines have PCIe. All other G5s are PCI.
The Matrox card is PCIe, not PCI.

  • CS4 and Matrox MX02 Mini with MAX

    CS4 sucks.
Is there some kind of written rule that eac new version has be worse than the previous ?
Why does Adobe keep cutting out the tools and processes we, I, want the most !
    Examples;
WHY doe Adobe STILL refuse to put back in stop motion capture ?
Why has Adobe screwed up the whole export thing and made it not only 100 times more complicated, but, also able to do 100 times LESS than it always used to in previous versions ?
BUT, my immediate question is why are my 720x480i exports to MPEG2-DVD  m2v  repeatedly failing  - unknown error ?
    - Source File: C:\DOCUME~1\steve\LOCALS~1\Temp\fleming8mmfilms-sd-3_2.prproj
    - Output File: C:\Sequence 01.m2v
    - Preset Used: Custom
    - Video: NTSC, 720x480, 29.97 drop frame [fps], Lower, Quality 5.0
    - Audio: No Summary Available
    - Bitrate: VBR, 1 Pass, Min 2.01, Target 4.13, Max 7.00 [Mbps]
    - Encoding Time: 00:00:08
    18/09/2009 9:35:55 PM : Encoding Failed
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.

I didn't sin, but you did by assuming things that are not true.
1/ The project file is on the same drive as the export, BUT, the source files are on a different capture drive than the export to C.
2/ I've been using the Matrox RTX100 with previous versions of Premiere for 7 years, and the two have worked very well together all that time, and still are working very well, and, will continue to I've no doubt. - Just because you couldn't get it to work, does not mean they don't.
3/ The export I refer to did not have any connection to the Matrox box. All Premiere and Encore.
4/ I didn't mention that I had done a lot of successful export tests of various definition formats, to other formats, and including a 1 hour Full HD export, no problems.
    So, - there - nyah !

  • MATROX MX02 mini on NTSC monitor

hi, i just bought this product and it is a bear to set up. tech support closed. i am hoping someone out there with this unit might be able to help.
i am trying to connect it to my Sony PVM broadcast monitor, which is SD. i am going RGB out on mini via monster cables to RGB component in on the NTSC monitor (which has BNC connectors, but i have RCA adapters. I am using the NTSC setup in Final Cut. Nothing on screen. Can anyone help me?

There is a large list of flavors to play out when you chose Matrox in FCP in the playback tab - in that giant list, you have to match whatever your playing to.  So, in your case, set it to NTSC.  It doesn't actually say "down convert".

  • Sound plays through Matrox MX02 instead of Komplete Audio 6 USB Device =(

In Adobe Premire Pro CC I can't use my NI Komplete Audio 6 usb device for playback. Instead sound always comes out of my Matrox MX02 when I'm scrubbing or playing.
Under Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Default Device I have selected Komplete Audio 6. When I hit ASIO settings it brings up the expected Komplete Audio 6 Control Panel.
Under Preferences -> Playback -> Audio Device I see options for Adobe DV, Adobe Desktop Audio, and Matrox Player but no Komplete Audio 6.
My system is a custom built Windows7 PC. Any advice on getting sound out of my Komplete Audio 6 instead of the Matrox MX02 would be much appreciated!

the komplete audio 6 seems more problematic than expected.
Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Default Device -> Premiere Pro WDM Sound causes stuttery playback. I've tried enabling/disableing "Device 32-bit Playback" under ASIO settings and I've also ensured that the buffer size (256 samples) is the same as in my Komplete Audio 6 Control Panel.
Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Default Device -> Komplete Audio 6 audio playback is fine but if I alt-tab away from PPCS6 the application will freeze as I describe in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5412540#5412540 ...
I'm running the latest driver/control pannel from Native Instruments (3.1.0) and the latest firmware has been flashed to the Komplete Audio 6 (45).

  • Audio Glitching On Mew Mac Mini

I've got a brand new mini. Spec below. I had to upgrade...
Using L9.1.8  with Apogee Ensemble with latest Maverick drivers.....
The audio stutters evry 10 or so minutes. No crashes but frustrating....
I did a clean install from my original Logic 9 Disks
I'm using a Lacie Thunderbolt 2 Big Ext Drive
MY WHOLE RIG WAS STABLE ON MY MBP RUNNING LION.
    Anyone??

    Update CCTM
Just spoke to Apogee. Audio Glitching is a known issue with Macs with Fusion Drive.
10.9.2 Fixes this AND the grphics lag.

  • Audio glitches every 11 min. 42 sec. in iDVD 6

i burned a slideshow in iDVD and added music but every 11 minutes 42 sec. it goes to a new "title" and the audio glitches right there. What am I doing to create this "title"......I'm very new at this and am sure its something I must have to turn off....?????

Check to see if the problem is happening at the 99th slide. iDVD slideshows can hang up there. If so, reduce to 98.
I make my slideshows in iPhoto instead of iDVD, then File/Export to my desktop and drag the resulting Quicktime movie into the edge of the iDVD project's main window. You won't have the glitch at No. 99, if that's the problem.

  • Audio Glitches on Timeline, but not when played in QT?

I had a client send me his project on a harddrive.
They exported a .mov file from FCP and it has no audio glitches when played with Quicktime.
But if i drag that file to a timeline and watch it through my DSR-25 to a NTSC monitor, it has audio glitches in certain spots.
Always at that spot though and if i watch the file in Quicktime, it plays fine.
All audio was exported originally out of FCP using Quicktime Movie with 48khz, 16 bit stereo so nothing needed to be rendered.
Seems like it has something to do with it going over via firewire through my DSR-25.
Has anyone else had this problem.
I can't make a Master DVCam tape for this master because of these audio glitches.
    Thanks for any help,
    Brian

I read a post about a user having this same sort of issue.
He said when he turns off his video layer, in my case just V1, the audio played fine.
    Same with mine.
So it seems to be an issue with the video track playing with the audio track.
If i export it and bring it back in, will it just create that same audio glitch?
Guess i will have to try.
Anyone have this issue or similiar?
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Matrox MXO2 Mini and CS6 Windows?

I got a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card to monitor the Premiere CS6 timeline, which turned out to have very mediocre performance since half the times I press play the audio lags one second behind the video. So I'm going to return it and get something else, and the next logical choice by price would be the Matrox MXO2 Mini, and there's a promotion running until the end of July to get the Max model $200 off, so I have two questions for those of you who have this kit.
Does it perform as it should with CS6.0.1? Meaning, no A/V sync issues, no lockups, proper video timings sent to the TV set or broadcast monitor, etc.
And, what about the h.264 encoding quality? I keep trying to find anything on it but all I get are results that talk about its features, like it has super fast encoding, but I can't find any reviews on the actual quality of the encoding, and speed means nothing to me if quality can't be as good as encoding with x264 in at least the normal setting.
    Thanks,
    Sebastian

srukweza wrote: Can you please update us on the perfomance of the Matrox Mini Max when you have got it.
Certainly. I got it yesterday, and at least for now, I couldn't be happier. Perhaps I'm jinxing it by posting this, but hopefully it will help others without a giant budget to decide for a decent output card instead of a piece of junk like the Intensity Pro, especially since the Max version is $600 at B&H right now for a month or two.
For starters, the MXO2 Mini doesn't have any lag. Ever. The tiny lag I see now between the Premiere monitor window and my TV set is the same I saw with Edius and the HD Spark, and it's caused by the extra processing added by the TV set to the signal, which can be disabled by selecting the "game" mode, but that means lower picture quality. The TV set has a lag of about 3.5 frames, but with the BM Intensity "Pro" (I would like to know what's exactly Pro about that card), it was about one second in certain instances, where I would have to stop and resume to get the correct sync.
The BMI was even worse when scrubbing. While Premiere is pretty bad at scrubbing compared to Edius, the perfomance with the BMI was hillarious. I would go up and down the timeline and the monitor window in the GUI would get stuck sometimes, but the TV set with the signal from the BMI was like a guy in really bad shape trying to catch up to the cursor, and lagging several seconds behind. It was like "Hey dude, let me catch my breath, don't move that mouse so fast, I'm just a itty bitty card with a slow processor!" The MXO2 output signal moves along with my hand, again, with only the lag caused by the TV set.
Picture quality is great, just as good as it is from Edius using the HD Spark, or connecting the camera to the TV set directly using HDMI. The MXO2 outputs a proper interlaced signal (from interlaced footage, of course) that the TV set identifies correctly and can deinterlace for the screen. It can output progressive as well, PAL or NTSC, any size in SD or HD.
Maybe I'm calling the Gods of Jinx to punish me for this, but for me Premiere is very stable with the MXO2. I haven't had any crashes. Only a couple of times it seemed to get stuck for a few seconds and display a frozen frame, but again, this only happened twice in a day and it was as simple as switching to another sequence and back. I don't know if this was caused by a bug in Premiere or the MXO2, but I can live with it if it's just twice a day.
As for those supposed benchmarks that it's supposed to slow down hard drive I/O 300%, it's all BS. The only lack of speed I notice is typical of Premiere, since it's much slower than Edius at handling footage. With Edius, editing AVCHD footage feels almost like editing I-frame only MPEG 2 footage. It can play forward up to 3x or backwards up to 2x without dropping a single frame, with 3 way color correction and curves, scale and rotation. Premiere just can't do that. Even without any effects applied, and with my GTX570 (480 CUDA cores) and a 6 core 3.2 GHz AMD CPU with 16 GB of RAM, trying to play in reverse freezes it for more than a second before it starts playing, and it doesn't do it smoothly. This was that way back in CS5 too, without any additional monitoring card. But the disk speed is exactly the same whether the MXO2 is connected or not, or at least it feels the same, having worked on a project with a four hour timeline. And we're talking AVCHD footage, the one from professional cameras that is 21 Mbps VBR, which is much harder to decode than the one from consumer AVCHD camcorders.
And finally, the Max addition is excellent. I was weary of this type of encoding, having tried the h.264 encoding from both ATI and Nvidia cards, which delivered on the promise of speed, but the resulting footage was absolute garbage, full of pixelation and unwatchable by anyone who demands better than YouTube quality. With the MXO2 I can encode in real time, with Max. render quality selected, and the result is high quality. I did three different encodes of the same 4 minutes of foootage, one in the default 30 Mbps, then 20 and 10 Mbps. I burned that to a BD-RE in Encore and played it on a Sony BDP-S370 connected to my Samsung 46" TV set, and I didn't notice any obvious pixelation, unless I paused and went frame by frame on the 10 Mbps and a bit on the 20 Mbps sample. But overall the quality is great. I still have to do some comparisons with the x264 encoder at the slowest settings, but being able to export in the real time directly from the timeline to high quality h.264 is just amazing.
Of course this is just my experience, and I understand that some people may have had a bad experience with a particular Matrox product and now wants to do nothing with the brand, but in my short experience with the MXO2 Mini, it seems like a hell of a card. I hope it stays that way, because I really want to go back to editing in Premiere. Back in 2010 I tried Premiere CS5 with a GTX465 and the BMI, and it was a terrible experience. The real time was nice, butthe GTX465's fan would speed up like hell every time I hit play, which was very annoying. And to make it worse, the driver for BMI would crash Premiere about three times per hour of editing. So after that horrible experience, I jumped to a promotion to get Edius with the HD Spark for $200 off, and I enjoyed excellent real time and stability, but Edius lacks many creative effects that Premiere has, more so now with CS6. So I'm happy that finally Premiere offers a stable and dynamic editing experience for me.

  • Matrox MXO2 mini

    Hi
I have for some time used the Matrox MXO2 mini on one of my two Premiere Pro CC PC's, and wanted to share my experience in case others was wondering how it is.
    http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo2_mini/
My config on the PC is:
    ASUS X79 Pro board
    32 GB RAM
    GTX 570
I use it together with the Dell 24" 2410 monitor:
    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/43469-dell-ultrasharp-u2410- 24-ips-monitor-review.html
This monitor is end of life now, but there is a 2412, which probably is ok too. The reason for choosing this one, was that it was recommended on "the cow", because you are able to set it up to make a correct aspect ratio of the picture.
The hardware install is easy, you need one PCIe 1x slot for the card, and you just connect the card to the box, with a special interface cable.
I installed the latest drivers, ver. 7.5 from the Matrox site after first boot.
I setup the monitor and tested the aspects of the output with a circle in a photoshop file on the Premiere timeline and a ruler.
Inside the preferences of CC, you can choose to output the audio through the Matrox box (HDMI) or through Premiere (the output of the sound card from the PC). I use the PC output and go to my mixer, and the sync is perfect.
You can use the box together with AE and PS too, but I have not come so far yet, my main reason was to get output from Premiere.
There is a calibration utility, quite advanced, as far as I as newbie can see.
The output is very responsive when you switch from timeline to source monitor f.ex. and it works with the titler too, but it takes a few seconds to switch view to the tiler or back, to timeline before the monitor connected to the Matrox updates, but I think it's ok. You can start playback, and while you play back the timeline, the monitor will update after af few seconds of playback.
    Ulf

    Hi James,
Never mind the "firmware", anytime you change versions of Premiere then MXO2 is going to need a new DRIVER installed. The most recent to support CC is 7.5.1.1966 and available here - http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/downloads/
What version of Premiere did you come from? Starting with CS6, there are no longer "Matrox Sequences". Simply use ANY of the existing Adobe sequence presets and they automatically play out through MXO2 (assuming correct drivers are installed of course). Matrox output settings in CC will be under Edit > Preferences > Playback
    Hope this gets you going.

  • CS5.5...Matrox MXO2 Mini...and NVidia GTX285

OK...So I installed Adobe CS5.5 and opened Premiere and all was good.  I could import footage, edit...everything.  But then I wanted it to work with my Matrox MXO2 mini for external monitoring...and Matrox just released a new update that said it would enable the MXO2 line to do just that.  GREAT, so I installed that.  And then I took out my ATI graphics card and installed my NVidia 285 that I bought for use with RESOLVE...because the card has CUDA support with Mercury Engine and all that. And after I did that I installed the latest drivers (because there was a messageOK...done.
But now things don't work.  Not fully.
First I tried getting my MXO2 to work by choosing Matrox project settings.  But when I do that, I cannot see clips I load into the Preview monitor...they are black, and well, act like nothing is there. No timecode, press play, nothing happens.  If I drag from the project window into the timeline, the clips appear.  But won't play in the Program monitor.  Can't be seen, press play, nada happens.  I Match Back to a clip in the Preview monitor...I see it's timecode, but no image, and I cannot play.
Then I made a new project, and chose the settings for the footage I was using...DVCPRO HD 720p24...from P2.  Again, I can import, but cannot see anything in the Preview monitor.  I can drag the clips onto the timeline, and NOW I can see and hear things in the Program monitor...but still nothing in the preview monitor.
So this is really messed up and not functioning right at all.  Any clues as to why?
    Thanks,
    Shane

I'm having a similar problem, but after quite a few hours on the phone with Matrox tech support, still no joy.
    Computer specs:
Mac Pro 8 core with Radeon 4870
Matrox MXO2 Mini going to HP Dreamcolor via HDMI
    OS X 10.6.8
CS Production Premium 5.5 (I completely flushed my system (Adobe cleaned)  free of all CS flavors before 5.5 fresh install)
    Flushed/reinstalled Matrox drivers 2.2.3.
    Settings:
Matrox System prefs: Set Video output to 1080 (instead of Matrox follows Application)
    Adobe PP Prefs:
Set audio hardware to Built In Line Out (not Matrox Player),
Set Video Player to Matrox Player (not Adobe Player)
    Good things (temporary):
I can see Matrox Presets in PP 5.5 and create a Matrox sequence
I can create a 1080/24p Matrox sequence and drag some color bars and tone in.
Picture displays on monitor and sound works fine.
Drag in some 7D footage  and can see it play off the HDMI.  I tried importing some 7D footage as H264 and cut a short sequence. It seems to work until...
    Really Bad things:
If I import a WAV file (or AIF or MP3) and try to set in/out points and cut it in, everything breaks:
The Preview window now does not accept new footage and shows as non-responsive black screen
The Spacebar and Play buttons cease to function, both in the timeline and the Preview/Record windows
At this point, even other types of sequences (DSLR for example) no longer function and PP is quasi-dead (menu commands still work)
Quitting/Restarting PP has no effect and all PP functionality is GONE
Rebooting the computer and starting PP resets everything and brings back functionality until.... I bring a sound file into the Preview window. PP dead again!
At this point, PP is not usable as an edit system (at least with Matrox).  Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Either with Matrox or another system (AJA, BMD etc.)
I'm stumped.  I wanted to see if PP could hold its own against FCP, but this is really bad....
