SG100D-08 EU - 2 LED indicators per port - 1 for the traffic - The 2nd one?

Hello,
I'm using for one part of our small business network a SG100D-08 EU switch.
For an unknown reason, this switch is not working at one location. When connected to a laptop, the laptop is not getting an IP address.
If I replace that Cisco switch with a D-Link one, it is working perfectly!
I have tried several things but without success.
The last thing where I cannot find an answer on the messy Cisco website is the signification of the LEDs on the back of the switch.
There are 2 LEDs per port. One is meant to show the traffic but the other one?
Can anyone give me an answer on the last point and maybe tell me why the switch is not working at some places?
Regards,
Bob

According to the manual http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/csbus/100_Series/SG100D08_QSG.pdf
there is only one light per port. Does the manual I linked to match your product?
Is your laptop older and your old switch 10/100?  This is an unmanaged 10/100/1000 switch and you may have an auto negotiation problem on the laptop. You could try hard  coding speed and duplex on the laptop.

You'll want to tune your client ports a bit
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204760.aspx as seen here, and then the client ports would use those ranges which is easier to set QoS markings.  I'm not sure the mobile clients respect that setting.
Elan's got the best writeup for Windows clients here:
    http://www.shudnow.net/2013/02/16/enabling-qos-for-lync-server-2013-and-various-clients-part-1/
However, the marking of the packets is the tricky part.  Windows can do it via Group Policy, but for the other clients you'll need to have the network specifically prioritize ports regardless of DSCP markings.  You have to do it based on ports
as the traffic could be peer to peer.

  • How do I set up the port interface for the WAN side of my RVS4000 to 100T Full Duplex?

How do I set up the port interface for the WAN side of my RVS4000? The ISP says I need to set it to 100T Full Duplex, but where would I do that? In the Router's administration GUI I can't find any options to make such settings for the WAN side.

The setup of the folders in Finder is entirely up to you. Whatever suits your needs is what you should do. Lightroom will be fine no matter how you set it up.
So I'm not really sure what your question is.

  • Problem in starting rmid in a port different than the default one

    hi all,
i am experiencing exceptions in running rmid in a port different than a default one.
    if i run
    rmiregistry 2000
    rmid -J-Djava.security.policy=policy
    java -Djava.security.policy=policy -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=<mypath> -classpath <myclasspath> com.myclass.ActivatableRMI <host:port>
    everything works fine
but if i try to specify a port in which rmid should be started, then i have exceptions...
can anyone tell me how to solve my problem? i am running NT 4.0
    thanx and regards
         marco

If you start rmid at port other than the default one
(1098) with -port option, it is necessary to set the
    system property "java.rmi.activation.port" to this
    port.
Rmid internally starts a local registry service
    (LocateRegistry.createRegistry(port)) and binds the
RMI activation system server object with this registry
    service like Naming.rebind("//:" + port +
    "/java.rmi.activation.ActivationSystem",
activationSystem);. Activation system provides a means
for registering groups and "activatable" objects to be
activated within those groups. When a activatable
server object is exported, it is registered with this
activation system, so it should get the stub to the
activation system which is started as part of rmid.
ActivationGroup class provides a static function
getSystem() to get the reference to the activation
system stub. Now it makes use of the system property
    "java.rmi.activation.port" value to contact the
registry service where activation system registered
itself under the name "//:" + value of
    java.rmi.activation.port +
    "/java.rmi.activation.ActivationSystem". If this
property is not set, it uses the default port 1098.
-- Srinath MandalapuThis is an awesome and lovely forum answer (and I saw srinath_babu reply to another similarly in my search), but I would like to ask for just a bit of clarification.
My question is simply making sure I understand the reply above in my own terms...
Suppose that right now my program involving activatables is already working with default port 1098, but that I wanted or needed to change to another port for rmid. Then is this statement true?
    - IF the commandline which which I start rmid specifies port xyxyx,
    - AND IF I added -Djava.rmi.activation.port=xyxyx to the commandline with which I run the setup for my Activatable (i.e. the program that calls Activatable.register method),
    - THEN my code will still work as is (i.e. I wouldn't have to change my existing code to specify the port anywhere in it)?
(If I am not understanding this correctly, please let me know!)
    Thanks very much,
    /Mel

  • The access to our new chess hall may be blocked by your local firewall. You would need to reconfigure your firewall to open port 15010 for TCP traffic.

How do I do the following so I can get into my chess program??
The access to our new chess hall may be blocked by your
local firewall. You would need to reconfigure your firewall to open port 15010
    for TCP traffic.

This is not really Firefox related.
What you need to do here is to read the firewall manual which usually explains how to create a rule for what you want to do.

  • 10g express, how to change port number for the database home page

10g express uses port 8080 for its http listener. However this number has been used by Tomcat on my computer. How can I chang the port number for the 10g home page?
    Regards
    jl

Andy, thank you very much, I have been able to changed the port number following your advice.
I hope you do not mind I ask a further questions along this line:
I installed 10 express db on 2 computers. One with Tomcat and the other without. Following your advice, I successfully changed the port number on the one without Tomcat.
On the one with Tomcat, I believe it was because I installed the 10g express while the Tomcat was running, I can neither go to the 10g's home page (page cannot be displyed), nor logon to the database from sqlplus (ora-12560: TNS:protocal error) even after I shut down the Tomcat. By checking with 'netstat -an', it is known that the http listerner is not listerning.
Can I change some configuration file to solve this problem? Or do I have to reinstall 10 ex? I prefer the 1st aproach of changing config file, even it is not as easy as reinstallation.
    Thanks

  • Port forwarding for the rest of us?

    Hi all,
I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now trying to find a way to get two Macs to do iChat video.
    1st setup is a G5 MP2.0, 10.4.7, iChat 3.1.5, iSight, Belkin 8230-4 router.
2nd setup is iMac intel 20", 10.4.7, iChat 3.1.X, builtin camera, Airport Extreme router.
Both are on 1.5+ broadband, Belkin has a static IP coming into the router, with the G5 connected using DHCP with manual address. Airport has cable modem DHCP in, with DHCP/NAT turned on. Apple firewall is OFF on both.
Initial tries yielded the dreaded -8 error. I reset Quicktime streaming, iChat bandwidth prefs as suggested and tried forwarding ports on both setups, per the portforward.com recs for iChat.
The Intel iMac is now able to see/hear the ads on the auto chat test from appleu3test01 just fine, but we're still getting -8 when trying to connect to the G5/Belkin.
Besides the six initial ports for iChat (portforward.com) have now tried a shotgun approach by adding ports suggested from various sites/forums. This setup has achieved at least an error free connection with the auto testers, however the intermittent blocky video and choppy sound is not much better. Screen grab of blocky video with the 20 forwards currently set on the Belkin.

P.S. I was going to post my first ever anti-apple rant... if only just to feel better but, what's that? oh okay...
<rant> Dear Steve, Even tho I have been using Macs since the 512, I am one of those artsy fartsy Mac users who doesn't really want to know what is under the hood. Admittedly, I am newbie at all this router port stuff, but the fact that lots of people seem to be having this same problem is ridiculous IMHO. Even the Yahoo and Skype Beta video ran the first time we tried it, not great quality, but it was a no brainer setup and it just works... exactly what we've come to expect from Apple. If these johnny come latelys can do it this simply, why can't my fruitbox company of choice get their own ***** sorted out? </rant> Sorry Steve.

    Hi PMck,
This device can do Port Triggering even if it can not do UPnP.
At present the Port Forward site list their own PC app to help.
    The method though is here
Ignor the pics and info on the brown and orange pics.
Set the first trigger as port 5678 on UDP.
Set these ports in the next text field
5060,5678,16384-16403 (no spaces and only commas and dashes inbetween) Set the protocol for these as UDP as well
Set a new line for trigger 5190 on TCP
Set the next text field as just 5190 and TCP again
Repeat the line above but for UDP at both points
    If using Jabber at all:
Set a trigger of 5222 on TCP and ports 5220,5222 on TCP
(if using GoogleTalk make that 5223 on TCP and list 5220,5222,5223 on TCP)
Bonjour needs four single lines (trigger and just one port in the list field)
5297 on UDP 5297 on UDP
5298 on UDP 5298 on UDP
    Repeat for TCP for 5298
5353 on UDP 5353 on UDP
As this is a NAT method of opening the ports the Airport will need "Distributing Addressing" turned Off in the Aipor Admin Utlity > Network tab This will make the Airport just an access point and the Belkin will address the whole Lan then.
Thios will allow multiple copmuters to access the same ports for iChat at the same time. The Belkin can be left doing DHCP. (Or be set to Static to the LAN)
Turning Off DHCP in the Airport (Distributing Addresses) will avoid any Double NAT and Double DHCP that seems to be going on at the moment.

  • Help with port forwarding for the WRT54G

    I need assistance please!
I am having issues trying to setup port forwarding for a ftp. I already have set this up for a SQL Server port and it works remotely. When I setup another rule for ftp using port range 20-21 it does not work.
I have confirmed that I have saved my settings, have the correct IP address, etc. I have firmware version 4.21.1 and not sure how to troubleshoot this. Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    John

Yes you do need to have the port already forwarded for port 20~21 with both TCP/IP and UDP enabled unless you know for sure your ftp only uses just one of them.  That is why I asked what port your SGL was set to.  Follow the link that other guy posted and open port 20 and 21 (I only use 21 with no problems) and make sure it is directed to the IP of the ftp host.  Also that PC needs to have the FTP enabled in windows.  To do that go to your control panel > add/remove software > and on the left side go to add/remove windows components.  Then check the box for the ftp and add it.  It should ask for your windows CD do have it handy when you add the ftp component to your PC.

Yes, unless the iPod is a third generation full-size model, which can't charge from any USB source.

    Hi,
PIX501 is a very very old Cisco firewall that has not been sold for a long time to my understanding. It also doesnt support even close to new software levels.
If you wanted to replace the PIX501 the corresponding model nowadays would be ASA5505 which is the smallest Cisco ASA firewall with 8 switch port module. There is already a new ASA5500-X Series (while ASA5505 is of the original ASA 5500 Series) but they have not yet introduced a replacing model for this model nor have they stopped selling this unit. I have a couple of them at home. Though naturally they are more expensive than your usual consumer firewalls.
But if you wanted to replace your PIX firewall then I would probably suggest ASA5505. Naturally you could get some other models too but the cost naturally rises even more. I am not sure at what price these are sold as used.
I used some PIX501 firewalls at the start of my career but have not used them in ages since ASA5505 is pretty much the firewall model we use when we need a firewall/vpn device for a smaller network/branch site.
Here is a PDF of the original ASA5500 Series.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6032/ps6094/ps6120/prod_brochure0900aecd80285492.pdf
Here is a PDF of the new ASA5500-X Series

I am afraid that its very hard for me atleast to troubleshoot this especially since I have not seen any outputs yet. Also the very old CLI and lack of GUI (?) make it harder to see what the problem is.
Could you provide the requested outputs?
From the PIX after connection test
    show crypto ipsec sa
Screen captures of the VPN Client routing and statistics sections.
