Share FCPX with Blu-ray  USB3 LaCie writer boot error

Hi
I've been around the bush and back looking at how to burn a blu-ray movie to a disc from FCPX and a slim Blu-ray LaCie drive.  I was able to burn a 5 minute movie from FCPX without any trouble but as soon as I try and burn something larger (like an 11gig movie) 1080 HD I get up in the morning to find an error referring to boot directory or something with a boot in it. Sorry can't be more secific than that.  It's costing me everytime it goes wrong.
I logged a job with LaCie and they said any disc is compaitble so i'm wondering whether there is an issue with Final Cut Pro X ?  Thank you for any assistance.
Mike

OK, I have FCPX. I burned DVDs etc all fine. I then burn a Blu-ray.  Initially I tried to save to hard drive and burn from there but that didn't work.  Seeing FCPX can burn directly to optical device (LaCie) I tried that (share menu in FCP) I got a boot error message that I didn't take a note of.  Today I tried again after I checked a few things out.  I put in my BD-R disc into the device.  FCPX says it is "finishing create blu-ray disc: burning Blu-ray"
at 85% it then said Insert Disc, i did this and it is hanging.
I have been able to burn a 5 mintue Blu-ray sucessfully but as soon as I get to a 55 minute movie I have been unsuccessful.  Layers are automatic.  speed is automatic, it's a brand new mac running OS X 10.8.2    The guy I bought the discs from reccomends Roxio but why should I buy new software when FCPX says it burns.

  • Satellite L775-119 - Upgrade with blu-ray drive?

Had my L775-119 for a few weeks, and it's going great, really pleased but am just wondering if it's possible, sometime in the future to upgrade the DVD RW Drive to a Blu ray re-writer?

    Hello
Im not Satellite L775 owner but I think it should be possible because some L770/L775 models are delivered with blu-ray drive so generally speaking it seems that the notebook support such drives.
But you can get an exact answer from an authorized service provider. The guys can order a compatible drive for you and install it if you are not familiar with notebook part exchange.
Do you know how to contact an authorized service provider?

  • Sync Problem with Blu Ray

I have a sync problem when using Premiere Pro CS5 to burn Blu Ray DVDs and wondered if anyone has had similar problems and has found a simple solution.
Equipment:  Panasonic HMC-150 (AVCHD), shot at 59.94 fps, 720.  MacPro with operating system up to date, quad core, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro 4000. PP CS5 also has all current updates downloaded.
When the AVCHD files are imported, they tend to be out of sync by 8 to 22 frames.  I manually resync and edit.  Then burn a Blu Ray DVD using Encore and end up out of sync again.  I must be doing something wrong but can't figure it out.  At this point, the only solution I can think of is to try to figure out how far out of sync I am once the DVD is burned and offset the audio that amount before transcoding.
Has anyone encountered this problem before?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I have done some more tests and have determined that the problem only exists with Blu-ray.  When I burn a non blu-ray dvd, video and audio remain in sync. I attempted to export to Final Cut Pro 7 using the export xml feature, but it doesn't work.  I brought the original footage into FCP and burned a portion of it to blu-ray using the Share feature and there was no sync problem.  So I guess my only alternative at this point is to re-edit the entire video in FCP.
In Premiere Pro I've checked to make sure that both the camera and the intake were set for no drop frame and they were.  I've tried double checking the audio sync using the audio line out from the Mac rather than the firewire out to the Mackie Mixer, just in case there was a latency problem, which didn't seem logical and there wasn't any difference.  It can't be a problem with the blu-ray burner since it works in FCP7.  I'm running out of ideas of things I can tweak in Premiere, other than guessing just how far out of sync the program pushes the audio and then unlinking audio and pushing it the same number of frames the other direction before burning the blu-ray, but that will be hit and miss and it will start getting expensive throwing away blu-ray disks.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Jon

  • Menu Problem with Blu Ray

Can anyone help? I've created a project that contains 2 edited movies. I have added a main menu, and given both movies a main menu marker, and an end marker. Normally on DVD's this would send you back to the main menu when each of the films were completed, but I cannot get this to work with Blu Ray. Am I missing something here? What happens in this case is that the Disc starts with the menu, but if you pick the first item, the film will play OK, but instead of reverting back to the main menu, it carries on and shows the next .. and on completion, just terminates - does not go to the menu. The same if you select the second item. it just plays through and terminates. It seems that the End markers are being ignored. Has anyone got any ideas ??

  • IMac with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive. When?

Is there any info about when iMacs with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive will be available?

Apple sits officially in the Blu-Ray camp so HD-DVD is less likely.
A slot-loading drive exists but only Apple know when and if they choose to use it in the iMac.
At this time even the Mac Pro doesn't have it as an option (unless you install yourself for $700, although that does inc Toast Ti).

  • Help with Blu Ray burning requested

I've been using PRE for many years now very succesfully with no significant problems until I entered the world of HD and Blu Ray. My system specs are at the bottom of this post.  I've been recording HD for some years now on my Sony HDV camcorder and rewriting the final production back onto HDV tapes.  I recently decided to move up and get myself a blu ray writer now that burners and media have become affordable (well relatively) . . . and the beginning of all my problems.
Normally I create 10 minute final productions from about an hour of footage; however, after a 3-week trip to China, I've created a 50 minute production from which I want to create a Blu Ray disk.  The production contains quite a lot of transitions, titles and still images (taken with 10 Megapixel camera).
I can render the project OK although it does take quite a few hours.  However, my system crashes (Blue Screen) at about 85% of the way through the Blu Ray encoding process.  I've split the project into 2 seperate projects - one of 20 minutes and one of 30 minutes.  The 20 minute one burns to Bly Ray ok but the 30 minute project still crashes (Blue Screen again) towards the end.  One obvious solution would be to split the project down in to 3 seperate projects and burn to 3 Blu Ray disks but this kind of ruins the point of having a Blu Ray writer as I could have created 3 AVCHD DVD disks instead.
The problem seems to be lack of memory.  The encoding process seems to work in the 1 - 2 GB space until very near the end when the memory requirement seems to soar up to 4 GB limit.  My suspicion is that Premiere is trying to use all the system memory and tramples over the system needs hence causing the whole system to Blue Screen.
I've scoured through the various forums and have found that lots of other users have had similar problems but not found any solutions.  Has anyone managed to create a decent sized Blu Ray disk from Premiere Elements - and, does anyone know the minimum configuration for doing this.
    System:
    Premiere Elements 8
Sony Viao VPCCW1S1E - Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 running Windows 7, 4 GB memory with everything running on the system c: drive.with 150 GB free.

    Thanks Steve

    Steve,
First a question: what is the size of your still images in pixel x pixel dimensions?
Now, a BSOD is almost always a hardware issue. The most common causes are:
1.) Heat build up, especially with regard to the CPU
2.) RAM - usually a block going bad
3.) Powersupply either under powered for the load, going bad or perhaps a rail not being up to the necessary voltage.
3.) MoBo - often a soldered connection (could be almost anywhere in the bus) heating up and separating.
First thing that I would do would be to turn OFF Reboot on Error, in hopes that there will be something useful on the BSOD. Next, I would download and install SpeedFan, which will monitor every sensor on your computer. Along the way, I would check the operations of all fans, and clean out any dust. Run the system under the same load, but with SpeedFan's GUI up. Watch the temps everywhere.
This ARTICLE's links will point you to several great utilities, including SpeedFan.
There are also RAM testing utilities, and I would run those.
Check the output of your power supply and check that against what is needed for each rail. Do not forget to add the load of your new BD burner.
In case the BSOD screen does not offer any help (often it's just bunches of code, that no one can gather any info from), this ARTICLE will give you tips on finding out clues as to what is happening on your computer, when the BSOD happens.
Though it will likely not help, as a BSOD is most often hardware related, but this ARTICLE will help you get your system ready (once the BSOD issue is solved) for Video editing.
Last, having only one HDD is a big handicap when editing Video, and doubly so with HD. One needs an absolute minimum of 2x 7200 RPM (min.) HDD's, and my recommended minimum is 3x. For HD playback, Adobe recommends at least a RAID 0 for the media drive, for PrPro. PrE is not that much different, regarding real-world system requirements for HD.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Ripple Training Video says I can "Share" (export) to Blu-Ray (PS3)

I'm successfully exporting HD video from Final Cut Pro 7.0 to MP4 H.264 for streaming on PS3. As you know, this workflow locks up Final Cut Pro until it's done. Then I serve the video using PS3 Media Server.
I'd prefer to use Compressor to handle this in the background - and with more processor utilization - but I have had no luck getting my PS3 to see the file when it's complete.
The issue seems to be that Compressor creates mutually exclusive *.264 video as well as an .ac3 audio files which the PS3 does not recognize - nor does Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip, or anything else I've tried.
Of particular interest is the tutorial listed in the link:
    http://www.rippletraining.com/provideoapps.html
Click the last Final Cut Pro video "Output to Blu-Ray"
He mentions his client would like to watch on their PS3 and conveniently skips over how to do that.
    Am I missing a step?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi. Thank you for taking time to reply.
Watch the tutorial to see what I mean. Have you tried to create a file for Blu-Ray /PS3 using the "Share..." option in FCP and get it to work?
What the guy says in the tutorial is "My producers would like to watch this HD show before it's broadcast....since my producers want to watch their episode on their Playstation 3's, let's choose Blu-Ray." Then he goes on a slight tangent and talks about making a Blu-Ray Disc. Each option appears to basically create the h264 and AC3 files. He doesn't mention muxing the two files. That's where I got mixed up. I've figured it out.
I don't have to use Medialink. I own it but "PS3 Media Server" functionality blows it out of the water. You might like to try it out.

  • Fcp 7 project through compressor 3.5 or share re: creating blu ray disc

Am I missing something but it seems you can't send a fcp project to compressor 3.5 via the "send to" option as there isn't any appropriate settings for blu ray, only HD DVD.
But you can through the share option. Is that the case or am I just getting too old for all this new high tech stuff??
    "Roger Retired"

    Hi iamfrustrated
I'll have to tell you I don't have much experience with compressor, I've been using Episode to transcode my DVD files and Encore to author my DVD's and I am just getting started with burning Blu-ray. But I would think you could simply burn a Blu-ray disc image to your hard drive from within compressor and then even use toast if you want to turn make additional copies. Is that perceivable?

  • No Chapter markers in share - DVD or blu ray?????

    Hi there,
Latest version of Lion and FCX.
I burned my 1st blu ray for a client last night (wuhoo!). It looks great.  Outstanding actually.  Used a Matrox CompressHD card to compress the H.264.
But I noticed no chapter markers present.
Thinking it was the matrox card, I did some investigation.
Turns out that chapter markers are 'apparently', NOT transferred during the share feature??!??!  It doesn't matter what I use for compression - markers simply don't transfer from FCX to Compressor 4!?!?!
Maybe I did something wrong - I'm just learning FCX after using FCP for years.
I had to re-create the chapters in Compressor 4.
Is that the way to have chapter markers carry across?
If so, that is simply one of the most asinine decisions about this product.  Forget all the hassles about not importing previous projects etc.. as that is a different issue, but discontinuing one of the most basic features from the previous product is just ridiculous.
Can anyone confirm the chapter marker workflow?  Again, it could be me doing something wrong, but I have a funny (and SAD!) feeling I'm not...
    Cheers,
    Keebler

No, you're not doing something wrong, chapter markers are a glaring omission from FCP X but apparently, Apple sees no future in DVD or even Blu Ray, so we're stuck with using Compressor or some other application to add chapter markers.
Fortunately, this is very simple if you list the timecode (each on separate lines in a text file) where you want the chapter markers to be - Compressor will import them and the markers appear automatically.
I agree with you though - it's pretty lame.

  • Is it possible to make a high res. DVD slide show that can be viewed with blue ray player/HDTV that retains high res. quality?

I have used PE 12 to make slide shows on DVD but the quality is just not there when I view on HDTV.  Is there a way to accomplish this using Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements 12?

    salrgrl
Assuming that you are going to use the Elements Organizer Slideshow 12/12.1 as the sole builder of the slideshow and Premiere Elements 12/12.1 just for the burn to AVCHD on DVD disc....
    1. Before you start, open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to its Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In Change Settings, set the project preset to NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DSLR [email protected]. OK out of there.
In the New Project dialog that appears, rename the project and put a check mark "Force Selected Project Settings on This Project". OK out of there.
Minimize the program and do your Elements Organizer slideshow work.
    1. Build your slideshow in the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor with photos with a 16:9 frame aspect ratio. If you can get away with pixel dimensions of over 1920 x 1080 and avoiding pre-cropping/resizing, then just make sure the frame aspect ratio = 16:9. If your photos are 3:2 or 4:3, then cropping to 16:9 before they get into the Elements Organizer. The question is whether the transfer from Elements Organizer to Premiere Elements is going to be influenced by photos oversized for the 1920 x 1080 16:9 project. If a problem, then we may have to back track and crop resize to 16:9 1920 x 1080. The photos are going to end up at 1920 x 1080 away in encoding.
Please go with the Crop to Fit Slide as shown in the screenshot - will not compromise the goal here.
    2. When you are ready to send the Elements Organizer Slideshow to Premiere Elements for the burn to AVCHD on DVD....
    a. Save the slideshow as a Slide Show Project to the Elements Organizer.
    b. In the Elements Organizer, select the slideshow's Slide Show Project thumbnail, and then Share Menu/Burn Video DVD/Blu-Ray.
    c. When you do that, your slideshow will be in a Movie Menu/Publish+Share areas of the program which has the pre-set manually wanted project preset.
The workflow choice was made since your intention was to use Premiere Elements just for the burn to AVCHD on DVD disc.
    3. Publish+Share
    Disc
    AVCHD
    with Presets =
The presets is going to be the one that will give you the best results.
    First, look at Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080pNTSC Dolby....the one with the 23.976 progressive frame rate.
    Second, look at Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080iNTSC Dolby...the one with the 29.97 interlaced frame rate.
The first choice in this particular case was made to be consistent with the Premiere Elements project preset
that you set manually at the beginning to
    NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DSLR [email protected].
And, that was done since there are many reports that this project preset results in sharper images in the burn to products when
all photos are involved in the slideshow.
Please review and consider, and then we can decide if the above looks like it going to meet your expectations for viewing.
    Thanks for considering the above.

  • 2011 MacBook Pro shuts down while working with blu ray disks

I am trying to backup my blu ray disks to digital formats in the event that a disk is damaged. I am using an early 2011 MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5 with a Samsung SE-506 external blu ray writer. I have been using handbrake to rip DVD's, but downloaded Make MKV to handle blu rays. I successfully ripped one blu ray disk last night. Once before that, and four times after, the computer shut down after failing to read the disk. When it restarts, a gray screen reports that the computer experienced and error and had to shut down. I believe this has something to do with the fact that OSX does not natively support blu ray disks. The disk drive is plugged into one of two USB slots in the computer. The other slot has a USB hub with two external hard drives and some other devices connected to it.
So far, the computer has failed to recognize the disk, and nothing comes up in Make MKV. The last time I tried, the computer recognized the disk, Make MKV read it and showed the titles. When I tried to rip the disk, the process failed. After another attempt, the computer shut down. This has never happened while using the original disk drive, or while using DVD's in the external drive.
I spoke with Samsung support, and they have no record of this being a problem. So, where do I go from here? I have quite a few disks to rip, so I am hoping this issue can be resolved. I have searched around, but cannot find any information on this problem happening to someone else.

    Hi lilliputian apple,

  • Replace dvd reader with blu ray in my brand new hp envy 17 leap motion se

Hello everyone . For a month now I have this nice hp laptop which I installed an SSD .
The only thing I do not like is the flexible keyboard but calling hp , they told me that it's okay for them and they can not do anything. I find it outrageous for a computer that cost me 1200 euro .
Anyway I wanted to change the internal dvd player with a blue ray player. I link my laptop :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04010241&cc=it&dlc=it&lc=it&jumpid=reg_r1002_it...
Can you tell me how should I do to replace it? Which player should I buy? I don't need to burn the blu ray but only read them well
I write from Italy and I would serve you indicate to me that the precise pattern making examples that refer to stores like amazon or ebay, at least I understand better . Obviously, the Italian version then Amazon.it or ebay.it
Then less important , I wanted to replace the two sticks of 4 gb ram with 2 of 8 to get to 16 gb. I checked and the model is a micron technology DDR3L . On the Internet I could not find the exact same model in version 8 gb then ask you which model is compatible with my laptop and if you could kindly always link me the article on amazon.it or ebay.it
    thank you very much

Here's the jest I am going on the basis that your OD is a Sata interface and you will have to look for a Bluray Writer OD that is for Sata laptop drive not a Desktop drive. I give some examples but this is from the US sides and you can use it for references...this comes from eBay...
Here's a link of my search
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=Sata+Bluray+burner&_sop=15
Make sure you save your faceplate and swap it out with the one that came with the drive unless it doesn't have one but change the face plate to yours so it fits. You just have to make sure all the parts attached the original drive is put the same onto the replacement drive then you should be back in business. The Bluray burners from what I can tell are more expensive and the Panasonic Uj240 is a burner should you need one but there could be others but Panasonic Uj240 seems to one I find that I can tell are burners from the specs.

  • Picture Distorted with Blu-Ray Player

I have an older Sony Trinitron KV-32FV26 TV and if I connect a Blu Ray Disc Player (Insignia or a Samsung) through Component cables the picture is all distorted and cannot be viewed but if I connect a Sony DVP-NL800H standard DVD player through the same connections it plays fine. Do the Blu-Ray players send a high-def signal no matter what kind of content is trying to be played?
Appreciate any help anybody can give.

Your older TV is not capable of displaying either 1080P or any progressive program at tthat. On a standard definition (SD) non-progressive CRT like yours, blu-ray is a complete waste. Even if it could accept the signal, it wouldn't look any better.
