Share Formats and Variables Across A Book?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but search didn't turn up anything.  Is there a way to share paragraph and character formats, variables, etc across a book?  It's really cumbersome to have to reimport them across all the documents whenever I change something, and that often leads to confusion.
Thanks!

I wish Adobe would just add a "master document" format or something where you could make all changes and not have to manually re-import.
Ok, now imagine the case where you want Variable "FileVersion" to have the same name but different values in each component file .
Using variables does indeed not auto-update across a book, but sometimes you don't want it to. Cross-references do auto-update across a book.
Anyhow, with the standard scripting now available in FM10, I suspect your "one-button" wish may already be granted.
It may easily be possible to add a "propagate variables" operation to a script for the overall work flow.
hmmm. I could use a script that propagate variables, sets condition codes, applies master pages, updates the book, sets color view, selects PDF options and renders to PDF ...

  • How to share a bind variable across multiple view objects?

Hi, Can someone tell me if it's possible to share a bind variable among multiple view objects within an application module? My web page displays data from different VOs on different regions. But all data should be controlled by the same bind variable, which appears in all queries. How can I achieve this?
    Please help.

Best to state your JDev version, and technology stack (eg. ADF BC) when posting.
I can think of 2 approaches.
    1) Create a parent VO based on SELECT :bindVar FROM dual, then create links between your other VOs and the parent
    2) Create a AM client interface method that programatically sets the bind variable in each VO.
Can you specify your use case? This one tends to come up when discussing effective from/to dated queries.

  • How to share icalendars, and contacts across users with iphones

We recently purchased two iphone 5cs for my husband and I to use. We want to share the contacts and ical on our Macbook Air. Currently the Macbook Air is set up as my computer with my id. How do I share the ical and contacts with my husbands phone?

    kimberleyallen wrote:
Is there any way to share a group of contacts with another user in the same way as you can share calendars?
With iCal you can choose to share certain calendars so that any changes are updated on everyone's devices that the calendar has been shared with.  I want to replicate that system with a group of contacts.  I know this could be achieved by having contacts assigned to one iCloud account, that account being the one that is used on everyone's devices but that means that all the contacts would be shared.  I have groups of contacts, personal, business etc.   The business group of contacts contains all the relevant contact information for the client but also I use the notes section to record details of conversations etc.  I would like to be able to share that group of contacts with a work colleague so that they could access up to date information on that client and also if either of us added new contacts the group would be updated on all our devices.  However I don't want to share personal contacts which is what would happen if we shared the same iCloud account.
    Any ideas anyone?
My suggestion would be to open that "second" icloud account. Use it for you and your colleague(s). Then transfer every contact that you want to share onto that account.
Going to Settings---> Mail, Contacts, Calendars---> Add Account to add the new account, and set the Contacts to ON.
When you want to add/edit/delete a contact from that account. Just open Contacts---> Select Groups and select that account from the list. You can then add/edit/delete the contacts.
Going this route will keep your personal contact list separate from the professional list.
You can use iCloud, google, Yahoo, Outlook.com and others. Personally I'll stick with an IMAP service. As you can also use the Notes in the Notes app. *Separate from the Contacts Note section you mentioned.

  • Sharing User Defined Variables across projects

    Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible to share User Defined Variables across projects. What I have in mind is that I would like to have my User Defined Variables configured in a central location and then insert them into my projects as linked variables so that they update automatically when I change their values. For example, I define a variable named Product_Version that has its value set to 9. Then I insert this variable into all my projects as a linked variable. After 2 months the product version changes to 10, so I change the value of the variable to 10 in the location where it is stored and it is automatically updated in all the projects. Can this be done somehow? I'm new to RoboHelp and I can't find any answer. I've been searching for the solution for some time in the product help, on the Internet to no avail. I even contacted Adobe Support and they redirected me to this forum I used Help and Manual before and their way of dealing with user variables was pretty simple.

    Hi there
Unfortunately RoboHelp doesn't offer up a way to allow this, At least, not directly.
However, I do believe I found a way to make it happen, The variables are stored in a file named rhvariable.apj. So what you could do is to add this file as a Baggage File to each of your projects that will share the variables.
Now you would create a Shared Location as well as a new Category in your Resource Manager. This will create a common location to store the apj file.
Add the Baggage File to the location. Repeat the process for all projects that are sharing the variables.
Now, when the variable gets changed in any of the participating projects, the shared location should be updated and you can accomplish the goal.
However, note that even though you will have what you are wanting, it will still require opening each of the participating projects, synchronizing the APJ file and generating the output in order to update it all. No way I'm aware of to escape that.
    Cheers,,, Rick

  • I have no share tab to share videos and get them in the right format for posting on youtube, is this because i have got the trial version, someone please help.

I cant export my movie, as there is no share tab and when i go file>share it isn't in the right format what should i do?

The trial version of FCP X is the same as the paid version - it just stops working after 30 days, so that's not your problem.
What version of FCP X is it, and what is the spec of the footage you're editing?
(Open it in QuickTime and press Cmd+I to show the spec in the Inspector, then post back with the full details or a screen grab).

  • How to share one variable across multiple JVMs?

    Hi,
How to share one string value across two applications, which are there in two different JVMs.
Requirement is, If I update one value(static) in first server through jsp, it should update second server static value too apart from first server.
I am using WebLogic 8.1, is there any MBean to access other application's static value?
    Please suggest!
    Thanks,

    Welcome User in OTN,
to make two projects can access its classes you should goto the project property ---> Dependencies then add the other project.
    in your case:
try to goto you Model project property ----> Dependencies ---> Edit Dependencies .
you will find your ViewController project. Expand it thin check to Build Output.
you can make this for ViewContoller project also as:
goto you ViewContoller project property ----> Dependencies ---> Edit Dependencies .
you will find your Model project. Expand it thin check to Build Output.

  • Audible Books and Compatibility Across Z

If I subscribe to Audible for books. Can I download and pay for Audible books once. But place the
same book on my sweetie's Zen V Plus and my Zen?

I am sure you can: I own three ZENs and a ZEN V plus and put my Audible books onto whichever player I wish to use. However, you will have to "register" the various players with Audible and the Audible manager. If you find that too complicated, then do as I do and save the books to your computer and then copy it to whichever player you want. Enjoy your books!

  • How to format a variable (file name)

    Hi,
I'm setting up a book consisting of 34 individual files. Each filename with this structure: "1.4 - Chapter name", "2.4 - Chapter name" etc.
On the top of the masterpage I have insert the variable file_name in a text-box. This is straight forward and works as should.
Now my problem: how can I format the variable, so the numerical chapter No. is separated from the text part? My aim is to place the numerical on each page aligned away from spine and to place the text part centered.
Of course it is possible to override the MP in each document, but would require 78 manual interventions (34 documents left/right),
Has anyone a solution, or found a way to accomplish what I try to achieve?
    FYI I'm a rookie with InDesign :-)
    Erling

As far as InDesign is concerned a variable is a single character, so it cannot be split. You can sometimes accomplish what you need to do with a Running Header (Character Style) variable by assigning various character styles to different parts of a text string (the styles can be nothing more than style names with no attributes), but I don't see a way to get the file name automatically and be able to split it.

  • Pre-planning autonumbering and variables

Today's question, sorry for the length.  ;-)
Recap: Former user of FM 5 or 6 years ago, now using/learning FM 11 and trying to remember a very rusty/weak skillset.
I have read what I can find on Chapter numbering and variables (FM 9 help files and a few very general blog articles), but I never used either(autonumbering or variables) more than very simplistically in the past. I am trying to design as much structure up front as this is a pilot project that will morph a lot over time. I would appreciate input on whether I am approaching this correctly or if there is a BKM somewhere on how best to design this with concrete examples that would help me with the correct syntax for variable names.
I am formating a new school curriculum from a series (hundreds) of individual Word docs (with nightmare formatting rife with inconsistencies). Each Word doc includes (in a single file) the Lesson Plan, between 3 and 10 Objectives and then each Objective may have zero to n classroom activities and/or zero to n physical skills (P.E activities which the gym teacher may handle instead and so want to rip out a page with only those physical skills.) Already I am getting emails that say move Lesson 3 plan to be Lesson 5 and reorder Activities 1-4 thus.
I would like to make this as easy as possible for future formatting (though the SMEs will continue writing content in Word) by using variables and autonumbering so that I can just drag files around and know that they are re-numbered correctly, but I have only minimal experience with this kind of design in FM. In order to be sure that the numbering stays consistent and I don't have to enter it every time myself, I think I need to create each of those categories pulling them out into separate documents and then contain each of those in its own "book."  So each level is actually a book because that is the only way to keep the autonumbering flowing?
    Course (book)
         Cover (document)
         Legalese (document)
         Course Intro (document)
         TOC
            Lesson Plan 1 (book)
                   Body Text (document)
                        Objective 1  (book)
                              Body Text (document)
                                  Activity 1 (document)
                                  Activity n (document)
                                   Physical Skill 1 (document)
                                   Physical Skill n (document)
                        Objective n (book)
                             Body Text (document)
                                  Activity 1 (document)
                                  Activity n (document)
                                  Physical Skill 1 (document)
                                  Physical Skill n (document)
            Lesson Plan n (book)
                  Body Text (document)
                        Objective 1  (book)
                             Body Text (document)
                                  Activity 1 (document)
                                  Activity n (document)
                                  Physical Skill 1 (document)
                                  Physical Skill n (document)
                        Objective n (book)
                             Body Text (document)
                                  Activity 1 (document)
                                  Activity n (document)
                                  Physical Skill 1 (document)
                                  Physical Skill n (document)
             Index
            Glossary
Then I can create a Master Page for each type of book and document (embedding the graphics that repeat) and apply the autonumbering in each book and the correct name of each thing in the footer. Most (but not all) of these categories have a unique name/title, or I will give them one as I go. Can I use system variables for all of this or should I be creating local user variables in each level?  I guess what I am asking is: is there a way to describe all of this in one place or is this something I need to do in each document? That goes to the proper syntax of the variables (would that be <chaptername> in each doc?) and then I assume I can create hyperlinks or cross-references (not sure which yet) in, say, the body text of the Lesson Plan. The goal for output of this project is printed manuals, on-line digital content, Kindle books, iPad books and then a Captivate training course. FYI, I need to create a high-res version for the digital formats and a low res one for teacher who will be photocopying things like the worksheets that would be 4 color digitally but black and white for their printing purposes, so I am planning on using conditional build tags for that purpose.
If you read all this and have time to give me some feedback and assistance, thank you very much.
    -Laurie

I have been looking for FM books for a month now, but the little I did find seemed so ancient or poorly reviewed. I wish they had the FM11 book available that is listed in their Book dropdown, but I went ahead and bought the FM 8 pdf based on your recommendation. I will go off and read with my morning coffee for a bit and check back later to see if anyone else has some input for me.
    Thanks Jeff!

  • Difference between Temp table and Variable table and which one is better performance wise?

    Hello,
Anyone could you explain What is difference between Temp Table (#, ##) and Variable table (DECLARE @V TABLE (EMP_ID INT)) ?
Which one is recommended to use for better performance?
also Is it possible to create CLUSTER and NONCLUSTER Index on Variable table?
In my case: 1-2 days transactional data are more than 3-4 Millions. I tried using both # and table variable and found table variable is faster.
Is that Table variable using Memory or Disk space?
Thanks Shiven:) If Answer is Helpful, Please Vote

Check following link to see differences b/w TempTable & TableVariable: http://sqlwithmanoj.com/2010/05/15/temporary-tables-vs-table-variables/
TempTables & TableVariables both use memory & tempDB in similar manner, check this blog post: http://sqlwithmanoj.com/2010/07/20/table-variables-are-not-stored-in-memory-but-in-tempdb/
Performance wise if you are dealing with millions of records then TempTable is ideal, as you can create explicit indexes on top of them. But if there are less records then TableVariables are good suited.
On Tables Variable explicit index are not allowed, if you define a PK column, then a Clustered Index will be created automatically.
But it also depends upon specific scenarios you are dealing with , can you share it?

  • I have ADE on 4 devices and currently over 2000 books which I want on all of them. How do I sync everything so I don't spend my life manually doing this?

I need help. I have ADE on 4 devices and currently over 2000 books. How do I sync all the devices so I don't spend all my time doing this manually. I have had ADE before, on my Palm, but it crashed and ADE didn't have a mobile app at the time, so I gave up on it.  I discovered that Amazon had removed books from my Kindle library because they were, they say, no longer available, but I bought them, they were mine and I consider their removal as theft. I decided to get a Kobo and discovered that it's primary format is ePUB, si I re-activated my Digital Editions. But, in order for me to keep using it and having my ebooks handy when I want to read them, no matter where I am or what device I have available, I need to be able to put things on one device and have them sync to all the others.  How do I do this? Does anyone know? All help and suggestions gratefully recieved.
    Many thanks.

Make a backup of your laptops hard drive to an external hard drive or a thumb drive.

  • Format of Variables Change When Debugging

When debugging in LabWindows, the format of the variables (decimal, hex, ASCII, etc.) is always set to the default under certain circumstances.  For example if you step into a function, change format of a variable, step out then back in, the format has been reset to the default.  There are other instances when you run, stop, rebuild and debug where this is done also.
I've asked NI to explain why the variable format can't be retained, at least within one debug session (until exiting LabWindows).  The explanation is they use a stack-based system to store this information so it is lost during debug.
I find this to be an extreme annoyance and an enormous waste of time.  For example, I deal with a lot of arrays of binary data.  Seeing these array values in ASCII is of no value.  So I'm nearly constantly setting the format back to hex during debugging.
I'm curious whether anyone else thinks this is a problem.  NI knows about this, but it's unlikely they'll do anything unless there is a lot of feedback from us users on the value of fixing this.  Post a note and let me (and NI) know what you think, whether you think this is important or not.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Chris,
Yes, using Format >> Preferences is exactly what I was talking about when I said "change the format of a variable".  Thanks for giving the exact details of doing this.
I'm still using v8.1.  I'm leery of renewing my service contract because I don't feel NI is listening to me (as a customer, not just a LabWindows user) regarding the issues that affect my work and ways to greatly improve my productivity.  I have been suggesting this for a few years now, to no avail, both with tech support on the phone and through your product suggestion center.
I can't explain all the intricacies of the issue.  Maybe what you have to do is set breakpoints and run rather than step in and out.  Here's what an engineer in NI's R&D center said:
It's not actually rebuilding the project that causes the information to be lost. It's actually even worse than that. As variables come in and out of scope, the formatting and the expand/collapse state of each variable is lost. So, if you've hit a breakpoint in a function and re-formatted a local variable, and then continue debugging outside the function, eventually stepping back into the function, the formatting for the original variable is reset when the item is created anew in the variable display, based on the data type of the variable.
The problem we have is that the formatting information is stored in stack-based memory which is associated with the actual items that you see in the variable display. As these items disappear and are re-created in the variable display, the formatting information is reset.
The complexity of representing variable scope information, including arbitrary block scopes, makes it pretty hard to maintain variable information in global, non-stack-based memory. It's obviously not impossible, but unfortunately it would require a fundamental redesign of our debugging paradigm.
Finally, we have heard this request from multiple customers, and I assure you that you are not the only customer who has asked for this feature.  The problem with this feature, as with many other feature requests is one of trade-off. It is obviously impossible to accept all the feedback that we receive, and so we are constantly having to weigh development costs of a particular feature, the risks involved in implementing it, and how widespread its benefits are.  So far, this feature has not made the cut. However, this does not mean that we're ignoring it, or any other customer feedback. Many customer-requested features have made it into previous releases, and we're confident that this will too, in the not too distant future. As a matter of fact, we can honestly say that most new features in a given CVI release originate with customer requests. I also just want to re-emphasize that each time you reiterate how important a given feature is, it drives up its priority and makes it more likely that we will implement it sooner, rather than later. With that in mind, we definitely welcome your suggestion to post a note about this request in the forum. We expect other people to second the request, and the more people that do that, the better.
So my question wasn't posted for NI to respond.  It was to find out if anybody else using LabWindows finds this issue to be detrimental to productivity.
    Thanks,
    Dave
