Share only part of address book

thank you for readig this.
Is there a way to share only part of an addressbook? I don't want to share every entry with my kids -- figure, there are things in it i don't want to share and there are A LOT of entries they really could care less about.
Thanks for your help.

Does it matter if the kids are on a different
computer with their own addressbook and userid? or
is sharing addressbook an all or none thing?
Hi helicopter,
If I understand your question, the only way your kids would get your AB list on a different computer is if you have a .mac account and were syncing with that computer. Of course if you have a .mac account you can place files (and maybe a AB group, I haven't tried that) in your Drop Box folder for them to access.
Hard Drive>Users>"Home">Public>Drop Box
And yes, I think it is an "all or nothing" share from Preferences.
Good Luck,
John

    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • Sync *part of* address book with google contacts

Within the Address Book I've seen it's possible to share contacts with a googlemail account.
However, is it possible to share part of an address book (say, a group or a smart group)? I'd like to share some contacts with colleagues at work but I don't need to share all my personal contacts etc.
    All thoughts gratefully received.
    Edward

    Thanks Julian.
I had not thought to click on the cell phone image/icon in the iSync window so as to be given the choice of Group folders to select to sync with my cell phone.
Before posting here I used the online iSync Help and did not see it mentioned anywhere.
It would be nice if Apple made this apparent by including a menu item in iSync that would take a user to that options window.

  • How do I share a contact from Address Book via email?

I am trying to send email address details in a Mailing list from my Address Book to a colleague. I have tried going to Attachment option but doesn't include option to attach from Address Book. Also tried copying so that I can paste into the body of the email without success. How can I share these contact details please?
    Thanks

What does your correspondent need or want?
One well established standard for exchanging contact information is the vCard which encapsulates many of the commonly used fields in a Contact entry.
If a vCard suits you and your correspondent, this add-on:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
has a nifty feature for sending vCards as attachments. Then your correspondent can probably just add it to his address book. If you copy out single details, like name, address, email address phone no, then the other person has to insert each one into his address book by hand.
If you open the Mailing List in your Address Book, you can probably drag each item out into the body of a new email message. But that's more work than necessary for you and for the recipient, who will need to add each one manually to his address book.
With this add-on, you should be able to open the Mailing List by selecting it in the Address Book, then use ctrl+a to select all, then right-click and select "Send as vCard"; it will open a new message with all the selected Contacts attached.
Lists in general don't have a standard presentation, so a List in one email client is only rarely useful in another. If you both use Thunderbird, you could use this add-on to export the List to a .tha or .thm file which another Thunderbird user could import.

  • Part of address book data loss using Migration Assistant

Used Migration Assistant to move everything from iMac 24" running OS 10.6 to new iMac 27" running OS 10.7.  Multiple data files didn't get transferred.  One was part of entrys in address book.  Is there anyway to manually transfer the data over?  Where are the data files located? Thanks    Terry

Just looked at the new iMac.  There is NO Library folder under the only User name.  There is a Library folder in the HD which contains Application Support, but it does not contain Address Book.  Did search for  ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook as mentioned about and it could not be found on the new iMAC (10.7).  It's there on the old iMAC (10.6).   I noticed there was not a Library folder under user as we were comparing old and new computers, but just asssumed that was a change in 10.7.  The computer seems to work OK, but we're continually finding files that did not get moved over using Migrtion Assistant.  Are we a disaster waiting to happen?   Thanks for any response.   Terry

  • Sync part of address book but not all... how?

Just started using iSync though I've been using my cell and Mac for many years (i.e. newbie at syncing though proficient with Macs).
How can I sync part of my Mac's Address Book without including all 600+ contacts?
It's a pain to have to scroll through so many to get to the few I regularly use (I'm not on an iPhone so scrolling requires continued pressing of 'down' button on my Motorola cell).
Thanks for any help with this.

  • FaceTime recognizes only people in address book stored "on my mac"

Is there a way to make other people (e.g. stored under server in address book) visible for FaceTime?

The only way I know requires two devices:
    (1) Launch mac os x server address book, etc. on the server.
    (2) Point the FaceTime camera of your other device at the info showing on the server's display.

  • Only want2use iCal+Address book with iSynch and Memos+Tasks with Palm T/X

I was using Tungsten T2 and isync happily. I was using isync to use the address book and iCal and when I synched it also synched the palm info in the Calendar and address book in my Palm desktop. The memos and tasks in Palm desktop also worked properly.
I upgraded my palm to T/X and have had many problems with deletion of categories on the handheld, duplication of task and diary entries, address entries with weird symbols added that need to be deleted, desktop memos and tasks not updating. iCal seemed to work OK but the palm desktop calendar did not display any future entries. Is this normal.
I removed isync and after resorting everything on the device - enabled all conduits for palm and resynced. So now everything seems to work properly.
My main questions are: what did I do wrong for this to happen which led to me spending hours sorting everything out on the palm device manually?
And: Is there a way to keep everything synching on the palm device AND iCal and address book for palm?
And: If not: Is there a way to use iCal and address book for mac AND keep you tasks and memos synching on the palm desktop? As I prefer the palm software for tasks as I have several categories for my tasks and do not allocate tasks on given days.
Thanks for reading and I hope to hear some quality advice from you soon. Matt

Starting with your last question about first synchronizing with the Palm Desktop calendar and then later with the Mark/Space Events conduit, the answer is no. Your first synchronization with any of the three Mark/Space conduits—whether one, a pair or the more conventional all three—requires that you overwrite the handheld with that data type using that Mark/Space conduit.
You should read this article about the limitations between the display and transfer of calendar events between Palm devices and iCal:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93172
Understanding those limitations, you should selectively 'fix' the events in iCal so that they are represented properly in iCal. You will have to live with the limitations of such event display on your Palm. If you 'fix' them on your Palm, you will only create additional issues when they are synchronized with iCal using either iSync or the Missing Sync.
Old repeating events can be 'rescheduled' in iCal by selecting the event and changing the end date, or they can be deleted, though that will result in their deletion from your Palm device. That's one reason that it is important to take that last 'snapshot' with the Palm Desktop, so that you can refer to historic data if you need to.
It's also important to think about why you would want to carry possibly hundreds of aged events around in the Palm of your hand. Realistically, why would you want handheld access to data older than say, one year? After installing the Missing Sync, you can double-click on the Mark/Space Events conduit and optionally limit the transfer of events from iCal to your handheld. You simply select the drop-down menu labeled Ignore desktop events older than: and choose from an interval of 1, 2, 4 or 8 weeks, 6 months or 1 year, instead of the default Sync All option.
That technique is another method to deal with historic data, because the 'misrepresented' events older than will not be transfered from iCal to your handheld even during that initial synchronization where your handheld data is overwritten, if you select one of those delimiters.
Mark/Space recognizes groups and categories in iCal and the Address Book when using a Palm OS 5 or later device which supports them. iSync ignores them, because groups and categories are not mapped in the iSync Palm Conduit.

  • How do I share cards in my address book with other users on my iMac?

I setup our iMac so me and my wife login with our own account. The problem, however, is that contacts I add to my address book are not visible when she signs on with her account. How do I go about sharing this info? Come to think of it, how will I let her view the photos that are associated with my account too?
    Thanks.

    Nevermind.

  • I would like to only have one address book, the iCloud one, on my iPhone. How can I do this?

As the question says. On my iphone I have two Contacts 'On my iPhone' and 'iCloud' but I would just like to have the iPhone one as this is just duplicate of the one on my iphone!
Or am I missing the point of having the two?

Made a typo in my question -- it should have read
I would just like to have the iCloud one as this is just duplicate of the one on my iphone!

  • I want to erase the data from my iphone so I can trade it in for a new one.  However, my husband and I share a calendar and address book.  I don't want to lose all his contact info--is there a safe way to do this?

I need to upgrade my phone.  But my husband and I somehow ended up sharing our contacts and calendar.  So I'm afraid if I wipe my phone, his phone will get wiped, as well.  How do I make sure that he doesn't lose all his info when I clear my phone out?

It will not delete his items if you erase you're phone.

  • How do I share a contact's details directly from Address Book?

It seems that the only way to share contact information from Address Book is to export a vcard to say, the desktop, and then email the vcard as an attachment using Mail.
Is there a more direct way of sharing a contact's information rather than this 2 step process?

    Thanks Thomas.
This works, but still requires a new mail message to be open. I would have thought there would be something more intuitive such as highlighting the contact, and using the contextual menu to 'Share'. As it stands the only options with the contextual menu are Export, Edit and Spotlight. Surely adding in Share (or Email) wouldn't be too much of a challenge (Apple, are you listening?)
