SharePoint metadata in word documents

I have added Document Property-> DocNo to word template of a SharePoint library. After I create a word document with this template and maintain the metadata "DocNo", the value of metadata will be filled in word file automatically.
It works very well. If I download this word file to local computer, I see always the vaule of DocNo in word. But of some reason I must upload this document to other library, then the DocNo is missing from word file. In word file I see just parameter [DocNo],
but not the value. Has anybody ideal how can I workaround this problem? Thanks!

I have done repair office. It does not help this issue. And I found it is relevant with schema validation. The standard is "validate document against attached schemas" is selected. If I don't select this item OR select also "Allow saving as
XML even if not valid" and save the word file. After upload it to SharePoint I see the value of parameter in body. But unfortunately this setting is just for one file. Next time if I download a word from SharePoint the setting is gone. And I check the
setting at other users, who don't have this issue, they have the same setting like me. Very strange. :-(

  • Folder metadata in Word document

In document library I have one folder and that folder has it own metadata. Inside of that folder is one word document.
Is it possible to get metadata of that folder and write them in word document automatically when word is opened with no programming?

Quick Parts are a Word only function that allow you to take specfic column types and surface them within the document.  What you're looking to do is to take column info applied specifically to a differnet content type and add that.
The step in the middle is getting that informatin in a format that a Quick Part could use.
Are you comfortable with SharePoint Designer workflows, as there may be a solution with one of these.

  • Links in Word Documents to SharePoint documents

Our SharePoint site contains Word documents with links to other documents stored in SharePoint.
When the users open a Word document stored in SharePoint, and then create a link, the users select the files in the "Current Folder" which is the SharePoint Network Drive.  In this case the path is
    \\rcssportal.co.riverside.ca.us\DavWWWRoot\sites\teammate\
When users then open the Word document, and select a link, they receive a "Cannot open the specified file" pop up.
If users do one of the following though, after being authenticated all the links will start working:
    1. In the document library, select "Open with Explorer"
    2. Map a Network Drive to
    \\rcssportal.co.riverside.ca.us\DavWWWRoot\sites\teammate\

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to link in Word Documents to SharePoint documents.
I try to reproduce the issue, however, I can open the Linked Word Document in the SharePoint Network Drive.
Please make sure you create Network Drive correctly. For more information, you can refer to:
Using SharePoint Document Library as a Network Drive
If the issues still exist, I recommend to select "Open with Explorer" to open the document.

  • Sharepoint Online Lookup as Document Property for Word Quick Parts

I'm trying to use Word Quick Parts and the document properties determined by my Sharepoint metadata to automatically fill in portions of the document I'm creating.  Then, I have templates for my company's documents that I'd like to use Quick Parts to
    populate.
For example, I'd like to choose a project number from another list, and then have Sharepoint look up the associated project's name, address, etc. (I have Sharepoint doing this by means of lookups). Then, the Word template uses Quick Parts to automatically
fill in information in the document, like the project number. The issue is that I am unable to get Word to allow the use of the lookup information - project name, address, etc. which are associated with the selected job number.
I currently have the document library set up to select the project number from a lookup of another list. Then it displays the associated project name, address, etc. based on this lookup. I am aware that these columns are merely displayed and nt actually
populated with metadata, but I have not been successful in using workflows to actually populate this metadata.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was able to do something similar with a workflow, but it didn't work out great. For instance, I would select a Project Number from a list, then I would save the document. That would kick off a workflow that would fill in the project description. I would
have prefered the Project Description to be filled without having to save the document.
A separate issue I am seeing is (not with me, but other users) when they select a Project Number from a list, the index number of the Project shows in the document, not the Project Number. When the document gets saved, the Project Number gets saved in the
metadata. Not sure if this is a permissions issue, but I have tried granting other users full control, and they still experience this issue.

  • Insert SharePoint document version in Word documents - Viewing in Word Web App

    Hello all,
I'm using Labels with the label format {Version} to display the SharePoint document version in MS Office documents stored on my company´s SharePoint site. This works fine if I open the document from the Word client application but if I open it from Word Web
App it displays the previous version number (a minor one). After half an hour or so, when I open the document in Word Web App, the version number is the correct one. I tought it was related with the IE cache so I cleaned it but the results were the same.
Is there any way around this?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
By design. Versioning is a property of a SharePoint item. When displaying an item from SharePoint, Office Web Apps only checks if there has been any change to the file content. It does not check for changes in metadata (if the Properties of the file have
been modified). It then displays the cached image of the last modified version of the file instead of running a new file conversion. This is why the last minor version is displayed in the Content Control instead of the major version. This behaviour is completely
intended and designed to work this way. This is, in fact, a performance optimization. If we would not have this performance optimization in place, then this would mean that Office Web Apps would need to download the file again every time there is a metadata
change (which would, of course, mean overloading the SharePoint server).
I found a similar thread as below, please refer to it for workaround:

  • Unable to open a word document in SharePoint 2013

    Dear all,
We are using SharePoint Foundation 2013 with Office Word 2010. Uploading an updating a document in SharePoint generally works fine.
We have a word document uploaded to SP on which we work a lot. I uploaded it yesterday and continued to work on the document. This morning when I wanted to open the document I get the message from Word: "Could not open 'http://xxxxxxxxx/sites/documents/General/document.docx'
(where xxxx is the name of the server).
This is the second time that we have this issue.
Except this message there is nothing on SharePoint log site.

  • How do I show the Status file property of a Word document in the SharePoint library?

When I created some Word documents (using Word 2010) I filled in the Status property before saving them on my PC's local hard drive. Not having tried that before, I verified I'd done it by selecting the file in Windows 7 File Explorer and looking at
the file properties pane along the bottom of window. Lo and behold, there's a line in there called Content Status with a value identical to what I typed in within Word.
So far so good. But how do I get the SharePoint library to show the value of that field for each document? I tried Modify This View (go to the library, click ... , Click Modify This View) then looking at the list of columns I can enable / disable using the
Display tick boxes. But neither Status or Content Status are listed among the 21 Column Names and there doesn't seem to be a control to add custom ones.
Have I missed out some stage? What am I doing wrong?
Please keep in mind that I'm a SharePoint novice.

    Hi ,
Do you want to change the default paper size in Word 2010? If so, this is how I do it.
    1. In Word 2010, go to Page layout tab.
    2. Click Size in the Page Setup group then click More Paper Sizes.
    3. In the Paper tab, input the paper size that you want, then click Set as default.
If there is anything that I can do for you regarding this issue, feel free to post back.

  • How to convert word documents to html page in sharepoint online 2013

    Hi,
I am new SharePoint and still learning it.
I have been tasked to do the following on office 365 E3 SharePoint 2013 Online edition.
    1) I have to create a Web page in asp.net
    2) This page needs to show document from a given SharePoint folder and bind them in a grid or dropdown on the asp .net web page
    3) On selecting the document from the drop down or gird (on asp .net webpage), I need to show the SharePoint word document as HTML on the webpage (something like word to html) Note: These SharePoint word document may contain Images, bullets, tables etc.
What I have been able to do till now
    1) I have been able to connect to SharePoint from ASP .net application.
    2) I have been able to retrieve document from a specific SharePoint folder.
    3) Read the document from SharePoint folder and bind them to a drop down on the asp .net page.
    What is missing?
I am not aware about any API that SharePoint Online provides to convert Word document to HTML. Any code sample or reference on how to will be much appreciated.
I am not also not sure what is the best way of achieving the functionality this?
    Thanks
    Krishna

If this was SharePoint server then it would be easy however in O365 You need to create a app which will use the word automation service and below is  powershell which you can use for the conversion:-
    # This script will convert Docx to PDF using word automation and similarly it can be used to convert to HTML
    $wordFile="http://contoso/kick.docx"
    $pdfFile="http://contoso/kick.pdf"
    $wasp = Get-SPServiceApplicationProxy | where { $_.TypeName -eq "Word Automation Services Proxy" }
    $site = Get-SPSite "http://contoso"
    $ConvertJob = New-Object Microsoft.Office.Word.Server.Conversions.SyncConverter($wasp)
    $ConvertJob.UserToken = $site.UserToken
    $ConvertJob.Settings.UpdateFields = $false
    $ConvertJob.Settings.OutputFormat = "PDF"
    $ConvertJob.Convert($wordFile, $pdfFile)

  • Need to modify header & footer of all Word documents in a SharePoint library

  • Populate word document with default metadata information

Problem is revers as it is available in internet.  I have created list and
columns. Which are populated  with default value. I have created word
template. I can enter  data related to “Document properties”, ect. When I save that document to document library, I can see that filed data, that I type it in newly created word document.
But because I have several project document library and sites, I would like to create library,
and fill all data with required values.  Then when I open new document from pre defied
template, I would like to have all fields  that are empty in document, to be filed
from  default columns value. Problem is, that when I save document, All fields are empty.
There is no problem, upending document, and default properties are presented.
How can I merge  default values from library, to word document ?

I have word template, that I added-it as a site content type. It has all standard
fields  that are mapped to document library filed. If I open
new document in  document library, and input
required filed,  after  saving document, I can
see those fields in SharePoint document library (Item properties).
Problem that I have is, following :
When I open that  document “new document” from template, I would like to have all fields filed with default values of that particular library.
Reason : Because  I will generate  hundred project (
Each new library is based on new project, build fields are the same, values changes to mimic project)
),  I do not wont to create additional template, that would have required fields fill up wit project value, and add it to content type.. .
I do not won`t to fill those properties manually.
Option 1 :  After saving document based on template, it will fill out
    required fields.
Option 2: Create template, for each project, and save that template as project template, that users open, and save it to project Site/library.
Option 1, is preferred.  Can that be done, when item is created, and copy project
    information, from different location ?
So I have  document library fields :
Name of the project,  Projec Manager,  Project ref number, Contract, ...
These filed are mapped to document filed :
Name of the project,  Projec Manager,  Project ref number, Contract, ...
    I have document library : Project A
    Project A  ,  John dear,
    REF2014_01_01, C1243332_2014, ...
    I have document library : Project B
    Project B ,  Same Jones ,  REF2014_03_05, AS563332_2014, ...
I would like,  that when I save  document
using New document (template),  that have those filed fill up. I do not wont to
create  new template for every project.

    Community,
I would like to convert documents to wiki web pages in SharePoint 2013 (I am beginning with word documents, but will eventually be doing ppt and others).
My dilema is that the word documents have hundreds of pictures.  Therefore, the answer is not copy and paste from word to the wiki.  It is also not add the pictures to the library and add them to the wiki manually.  That is just not an option
with the volumn of pictures and tables that I have.  Please help!  I saw an article on how to do this in 2007 which was very simple: I find the document in the libarary, click the drop down next to it and click convert to web page.  I am

  • SharePoint prompting for password when saving word document

Saving a word document back to SharePoint always prompts for credentials.
I am the administrator for a SharePoint farm. We have enabled kerberos, and added the portal to the intranet zone in Internet Explorer by group policy. Most of the time this limits the amount of password prompts our customers see (including viewing the portal
in a browser, and opening documents); however, we are still getting the prompt for credentials when trying to save a word document back to SharePoint.
Here are some details: - SharePoint 2010 - Word 2010 - Kerberos enabled - Portal added to intranet zone in IE - Checkbox for passing automatic credentials enabled
Can anyone help? Is there something I've missed? Is this prompt just unavoidable?

    Hi,
Internet Explorer uses the Web Client service when you use Internet Explorer to access a
WebDAV resource. The Web Client Service uses Windows HTTP Services (WinHTTP) to perform the network I/O to the remote host.  WinHTTP sends user credentials only in response to requests that occur on a local intranet site.
However, WinHTTP does not check the security zone
settings in Internet Explorer to determine whether a Web site is in a zone that lets credentials be sent automatically.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press
    ENTER.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click
    Multi-String Value.
Type AuthForwardServerList, and then press ENTER.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
In the Value data box, type the URL of the server that hosts the Web share, and then click
    OK.
Note   You can also type a list of URLs in the
Value data box. For more information, see the "Sample URL list" section in this article.
    Exit Registry Editor.
After this registry entry is created, the WebClient service will read the entry value. If the client computer tries to access a URL that matches any of the expressions in the list,   the user credential will be sent successfully to authenticate
the user, even if no proxy is configured.
Note You have to  restart the WebClient service after you modify the registry.

  • Convert Word documents to PDF with SharePoint Online 2013 - C#

We have a client with a requirement to automatically create a PDF copy of a Word document when the Word doc hits a major version.
I am aware there are third party apps for this, but we'd prefer to develop this ourselves.
Word Automation Services is not available in SharePoint Online, so we do not have that option.
We'd prefer not to use Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word as we'd then need a client running with MS Word.
It would seem like the CSOM Microsoft.SharePoint.Client would be able to do this somehow.  I'd imagine that's how the third party apps are accomplishing this.  However I'm not seeing specifically how to save to PDF via CSOM.
Can anyone provide insight on how to accomplish this programatically?
