Sharing 5.1.1 files with G5 user

I'm using 5.1.1 but my business partner has a G5. Is there any way to share projects?

you sound like you're in exactly the same position as Ben, who was asking the exact same question a dozen of hours or so ago

  • Error processing cube - requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open

    Hi,
We have recently moved our production servers and since the move have been experiencing an intermittent (but frequent) error when processing our OLAP cube.
    The error messages presented are:
"Error: The following error occurred during a file operation: The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open"
"Error: Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while processing index for the <Partition Name> partition of the <Measure Group Name> measure group of the <Cube Name> cube from the <Database Name> database"
I assume the second message is a consequence of the first error.  The partitions and measure groups seem to vary each time the process is run.
It appears from similar threads that this is usually caused by backups or anti-virus applications locking the files that Analysis Services is using the process the cube.  I have ensured that there are no backups running at the time of processing and
I have disabled anti-virus programs without success.
I have also created a new version of the cube (using the deployment wizard) which deployed without error but then encountered the same error when processing for a second time.  There was nothing (client application wise) using this cube when it failed
    to process.
As I mentioned earlier, this problem is intermittent.  Sometimes the cube will successfully process but usually it fails to process.
We have not encountered this error in our previous production environment or in any of our development environments.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any suggestions on possible solutions?
    Thanks
    Rich

    Hi jonesri,
I think you can try to use SSAS Dynamic Management View to monitor SSAS instance, such as existing connections and sessions. For example, please run the following MDX query:
    SELECT[SESSION_COMMAND_COUNT],
    [SESSION_CONNECTION_ID],
    [SESSION_CPU_TIME_MS],
    [SESSION_CURRENT_DATABASE],
    [SESSION_ELAPSED_TIME_MS],
    [SESSION_ID],
    [SESSION_IDLE_TIME_MS],
    [SESSION_LAST_COMMAND],
    [SESSION_LAST_COMMAND_CPU_TIME_MS],
    [SESSION_LAST_COMMAND_ELAPSED_TIME_MS],
    [SESSION_LAST_COMMAND_END_TIME],
    [SESSION_LAST_COMMAND_START_TIME],
    [SESSION_PROPERTIES],[SESSION_READ_KB],
    [SESSION_READS],[SESSION_SPID],
    [SESSION_START_TIME],[SESSION_STATUS],
    [SESSION_USED_MEMORY],
    [SESSION_USER_NAME],
    [SESSION_WRITE_KB],
    [SESSION_WRITES]
    FROM $SYSTEM.DISCOVER_SESSIONS

Unable to Share a Data File Between Multiple Users on the Same System
Cause The Quicken Essentials data is a data package that contains multiple files.  Each item in the package has permission set based on the current users profile.  When the Package is moved to a shared folder, the permission in the data package are not changed, therefore cannot be accessed by another user.
You can change the permissions for each individual file within the data package to be accessed by other users.  However, the first user who opens the file after the permissions have been changed, will take ownership of the data package, and it will no longer be accessible by the other party again.

  • Why can't I share a Quicken file with another user on my mac?

I have a new mac. Used to have a pc  with ms money. it was set so that both my wife and I could open Money and work on the same file (our checkbook).
I get a "can't open file....no permission" message from Quicken if I try to open from my wife's login.
I have the file in the Shared folder and I manually went into File Sharing and set her up to read& write on that folder and file but I still get "no permission"
There has to be a way for 2 people to work on the same file, yes?

  • Itunes library sharing on single Mac Pro with 2 users.

Recently I have setup a Mac Pro with 2 users. Primarily the thought was to have this as the media server for a couple of AppleTV (2nd generation) and other users. The primary user on the Mac Pro (me), has the iTunes Library located in the Public Directory. Home sharing is enabled, on all systems. There is no problem when the Primary user is logged in and iTunes is running. When the second user, logs into the Mac Pro, nobody has access to the iTunes Library of the primary user.
I was thinking of setting up the secondary user with the same itunes directory, but when new content is added by the primary user, the secondary user would not see it automatically, would they?
Basically I am trying to set up a common iTunes library for all users and all devices. Is it possible

while logged in to the other user account, launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder in the shared folder.
if you're using fast user switching, user A must quit iTunes before user B can access the library.
Home sharing is enabled, on all systems.
home sharing is designed to work between two (or more) computers on the the same LAN.

  • Sharing System 7.5 files with OSX 10.6 via network cable

Hi, I've seen a few walkthroughs, but they're for slightly different versions of OS. (i.e. System 7.6 to OS9) I know there are important networking differences between different versions, so does anyone know what will work between 7.5 and 10.6?
    Thanks!

    7.5.3 and later File Sharing
Any Mac running 7.5.3 or later (with at least OpenTransport 1.1.2 and AppleShare Chooser extension 3.7.4) can share the files of any Mac running OS 9 or later using built-in File Sharing using IP. What is not supported beyond 10.3 is File Sharing via AppleTalk. In addition, Sharing initiated from your 10.4 or 10.5 Mac to a Mac before OS 9 is not supported directly. So you will have to make the connection from the Older Mac end. Alternatively, you could install "Shareway IP" (a low-cost utility) on the older Mac and connect from the newer Mac.
You need an appropriate Ethernet connection, and each Mac must have a similar (but not identical) IP Address. On the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac: You must turn on File Sharing in your 10.4 or later Mac:
System Preferences > Sharing > Services pane > \[X] Personal File Sharing
    and click ( Start )
Look up the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac's IPv4 Address in System Profiler OR Network Preferences, and write it down for later. It may resemble 192.168.0.6
On the Older Mac: open the Chooser and select AppleShare. Your 10.4 or 10.5 Mac will NOT appear in the right-hand pane, because it does not speak AppleTalk File Sharing protocol. But do not despair!
It can speak IP protocol, if you ask it nicely. So click on the "Server IP Address" button on the bottom of the right pane, and enter the IPv4 Address of the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac.
The login screen that appears is sent to you from the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac. Enter a Username and password that is valid on the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac. Choose the drive(s) you want to mount, if there is a choice, and they will appear on the desktop of the Older Mac as shared Network Drives (Drive Icon with a cable coming out the bottom).
Drag whatever you like to the newly-mounted drive. It will appear on the 10.4 or later Mac. Try to resist the temptation to drag your whole drive all at once. Move smaller batches in a thoughtful way, and you should have no problems.

  • Sharing files with multiple users on single iMac

THIS IS a REPOST from another location - more appropriate "thread"
After switching to Mac from a PC about a month ago (& not being technologically over-adept), I have finally succeeded in creating separate "User" accounts on my iMac (1 admin, 1 standard, 1 managed) to allow the 3 users in my household to create their own workspace. However, now I would like to allow them to access all files from some applications - iTunes, iPhoto, Address Book, etc. - and some of the files within Numbers, Pages, & Keynote (that were theirs to start with...but they were working on in "my" admin space before establishing separate Users.) As an additional challenge, I'd still like to have access to their files...for monitoring purposes...as we go forward. I've "searched" the Apple support files and found reference to some of this but (1) I can't seem to figure out how to move the files into the Public Folder (I did one, then logged in as another User & it wasn't there...) and (2) If they access files from the Public Folder, will they need to specifically save them back there when done? -- my other users will NEVER remember to put something back where they got it...

You can give each user read and write permissions to just that folder, or to everything in it. But that will not stick to any new files that are added to the folder hierarchy after that point. When new files are created they are read and write for the creator, and read only for all others. If you want to change that it must be done manually for each new file that you add.
There is a way to get around this, and make every file/folder added to a folder hierarchy automatically get full read and write permission for the users you specify. It requires setting up ACLs. Do it this way:
    1. Make a new subfolder in /Users/Shared. Call it something like /Users/Shared/sharefolder. Move all the files you want to share into this folder.
    2. Go to System Preferences and unlock the Accounts pref pane. Click the + button. Make a new group (select "group" from the drop down menu). Call it something like "sharegroup". Add the users you want to that group.
    3. Log in to an admin account. Launch Terminal. Paste in all three of these lines at the same time and then press Return:
    sudo chmod -R +a "sharegroup allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
    /Users/Shared/sharefolder
Enter your admin password when prompted and press return again. You are done. The users in the sharegroup can all now read and write everything in the sharefolder. They will also be able to read and write any file that is newly created or copied into the sharefolder from that point on.
NOTE: After setting this up, and you want to add more files to the sharefolder, be aware that files that already exist outside the sharefolder WON'T inherit the new permissions if they are simply moved in (i.e. drag with Finder). They must be copied in. Hold down the option key when dragging files into the sharefolder. That will ensure that a new copy will be made, and the permissions will inherit properly. You can then delete the old copy of the file from its previous location.
    I hope this helps.

  • Sharing .dir/.cst files with mutiple users

We're having problems moving to a thin client.
I have a customer running a stub projector that loads the
main dir file. The dir file has multiple, dynamically-linked casts
(dozens that swap in and out depending on context). It has worked
great for years running off local hard drives - with updates loaded
    via a lan.
Our customer wants to pull the harddrives from the local
machines and run everything from the network. The projector can
have many users, but the dir file & all the shared casts appear
to be single user only. Is there a way to have multiple instances
of a projector load multiple instances of linked .dir and .cst
    files?

    Set them to be read-only.

  • Sharing directories and files with multiple users

I have 4 users (family members) on my machine. Up until recently, I only had one account, mine. Now my wife and kids each have an account. The kids do not have admin access. I have several firewire drives, and lately I've been moving most of my documents and other files (photoshop, etc) to a directory on my firewire drive. Then, I've added symbolic links to them from their home directories. Of course, I've had to open up permissions (rwxrwxrwx) on the files and directories. Of course, when one of them creates a file, it will use their umask to create the new files, and then the others won't have access to the new file until I reset the permissions again.
Is there a way to say, in this folder and below, always use this permission mask? Or, is there a way for me to set their umaks. For my account I can do that, since I have a .bashrc file, but for the other accounts I don't see a .bashrc or .bash_properties or anything where I can but the umask.
Is this even the best way to go? Any suggestions would be appreciated. How do others do this type of thing?
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

Alfredo, I think Kurt's example, '1 2 3 4 *", was just to show the place holders. I think you can set up a root crontab by entering sudo crontab -e (if you know how to use vi), or you can do sudo tcsh (or sudo bash) and then do the echo statement as in Kurt's reply.
And yes you can have multiple commands on the same line like you suggested.
Here's an example I used in the past:
    00 8,12,16,20 * * * (date && /usr/local/bin/myscript) >> /usr/local/logs/myscript.log 2>&1
This directs the output and the error output to a log file so I can check on the results periodically. The "&&" between the two commands keeps the second command from running if the first one fails.

  • Shared Disk - can't connect with Fast User Switching

    Hi,
I've created a Disk on my Time Capsule, and shared it via "File Sharing", it's secured "with a disk password", and is working well ... sort of. I can connect to it with no issues, and so can my wife via her MacBook Pro. However, if I'm signed into my account, and she accesses her account using Fast User Switching, she can't connect to the shared volume. She has to Disconnect, and then reauthenticate, and after doing so, I can't connect to the shared volume. I must Disconnect, and reconnect. Why is this? Is there an authentication file that's set up some where on the root of the shared computer, that's preventing us from being able to signin to the shared volume? Or is something broken?
    Thanks!

  • Picard doesn't create files with a user's non-primary groupid

    Scenario:
I have a folder in /home/john/music  that contains files that are readable by users in users group.
I have set permissions this way (setgid):
    drwxr-sr-x 284 john users 12K sep 4 00:03 music
This way, new files inside that folder belong to "users" group, and not to john's default group (john).
I use Musicbrainz's Picard to organize my music collection. When adding new files to the collection, they get created with "john" group, and not "users" group, as they should. Why?
Can I change something in Picard to change this behaviour? There are workarounds for this, I know. But I wanted to know if this behaviour is normal.
