Sharing between libraries on the same computer.
My wife and I each have our own iTunes library on the same (Mac) computer. How can I copy an album from one library to another?
Toni
For tis to work, you have to also check 'Share this Library' and log in to both accounts and have iPhoto running in both accounts, and switch between accounts using Fast User Switching.

How can photo albums be shared between users on the same computer?
I have downloaded photos into IPhoto, but my wife can't view them on the computer from her homepage. (We have separate passwords upon startup.) Thanks.
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up. -
I have 10.6.8 software loaded on my Mac Pro. My family uses it as our primary computer, it is basically my wife and I . I set up a third account for my 2 1/2 year old daughter since there is a crap load of software programs for her games and what nots. I want to be able to share all the files between all three accounts on the computer. I do see under System Preferences how to do file sharing, however when I do I can not find where to view the files I have shared. I have tried sharing the entire hard drive and desktop along with specific folders. Thanks

I understand how to do that, I was looking to share all fodlers or a bunch of folders. I found out how to do it.

I'm trying to use home sharing to share content between libraries so some of the combined content in a given library, can be synced to an ipad. Instad of having mulitple computers, i have multiple libraries on the same computer using two desktops. How do I share within the same computer?
iTunes must be running for home sharing to work. There is no way to have home sharing running simultaniously for two users on the same computer.
Simply add the media files using File > Add File/Folder option in iTunes. -
How do I copy purchases between 2 itunes libraries on the same computer with different log ins and separate apple user ids?
Load the library which doesn't contain the songs and drag them into the open iTunes application window. If you need to move them between different computer user accounts, put them into /Users/Shared/.

I have multiple libraries on the SAME computer. How can I share these libraries? I do not see the SHARED tab when i open iTunes. Where is this tab?
home sharing works between two or more computers on the same LAN.
if you're talking about libraries on multiple user accounts on the same computer, peruse how to share music between different accounts on a single computer.
if you mean you're working with multiple libraries on the same user account, check out PowerTunes or iTunes Library Manager. -
ITunes sharing between two users on same computer
i've tried searching for this, but i guess i don't know how to search it properly. What i need to do is have the itunes library of a different user account show up as a shared library on my main account (and visa versa) without having the laptop connected to a network.
Right now i have a lot of recordings for work in an itunes library of a different user account that i will need from time to time when teaching. i'd like to be able to have that show up as a shared library, and have my main library shared in the other user account so that i don't have to switch back and forth all the time. Using Tiger this worked like a charm, but with Leopard they only seem to share when my powerbook is connected to a network. i don't have a network connect at work nor am i likely to get one. Is there a setting i am missing? All the files are on the computer, right, not external drives? And all the accounts you want to share between can Share their Libraries AND Look for Shared Libraries? And iTunes is running in each user account?
I have to say I've never used this WITHOUT an internet connection as I have 'always on' broadband, but I cannot imagine why it would need a network when it's between users on the same computer. -

Can you put two iTunes libraries on the same computer? what is the best way?
Is it possible to put two iTunes libraries on the same computer? What is the best way to do it so the two libraries are not connected?

yes.

give them distinct names. launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder of the desired library.
FWIW, there are 3rd party apps that help with managing multiple libraries, notably:
PowerTunes
iTunes Library Manager -

Creating 2 separate libraries on the same computer
So my sister just got her first iPod (nano chromatic), I have had mine for two years (nano second generation). I would like to know if it is possible to create two separate libraries on the same computer. If someone could also please tell me how to do that, that would be awesome. Thank you all so much!
-AuriTo create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
Another option is to create a separate Windows User account for each person on your PC. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Create and customize user accounts in Windows XP -
Sharing iphoto library on the same computer between different users
Can anyone tell me how (without having to write my own code) I can share photos easily (so I can teach my parents, who know nothing about mac, how to do it) between different users on the SAME COMPUTER?
I am so frustrated! You can share with anyone else in the world, but when it is on the same computer I can't figure out how to share!Hi Mereditty,
Here are all the links I have for sharing a couple of different ways.
SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

Can I transfer songs between two libraries on the same computer?
I have two libraries on my computer, was wondering if any one knows a simple painless way to transfer music from one to the other.
The reason is my music collection has gotten unfathomably large over the years, and I no longer want it to be that way. I was thinking maybe I could just find someway to "hide" a majority of the songs most of the time, and just show the ones i'm into at the moment. Since i couldn't find a way to do that, i made another entire library (both under the same user), thinking i would keep the bulk in one and the songs i was into for the moment in another, but have them linking to the same folder containing all the music files. This is working fine, but i would love an easier way to transfer the songs over to the favourites library, especially someway to do all the songs in a play list.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
