Sharing .indd files online

Is it possible to share an .indd file that would allow someone to make and save edits online?  I basically want to be able to collaborate without having to screen share or package and email the file back and forth -- i just want the file to "live" in a space where my editor and I can both access and work on it, so we know we are always in the most current version.
I hope what I'm asking makes sense, and what I am looking for exists!
~Melinda

Well, I was not aloud to upoad the screenshot, but here is a link to an indd file that shows what I'm getting:
https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/082025_LLMPD_BOSTON.indd?w=d46567b9
It just ocured to me that I might have to share the file with you, pleaselet me know, and I will.
I've tried uploading other indd files and am having the same issue.

  • Sharing Folio - Source .indd files are not available for this article

    when sharing a folio, and opening it up in indesign 5.5 all articles say:
    "Source .indd files are not available for this article"
    What is the point of sharing if you can't change articles and update them?

    Because you’re not sharing the InDesign files, you’re sharing the folio.
    Pretty similar to sharing a PDF but not the source files.
    That said, I’m working on a project with someone else and everything sits in a Dropbox folder. Only I can update the folios but my partner has access to the InDesign files.

  • Please help me out -How to share a single indd. file at the same time?

    Is there any any option for two users to work on a single indd. file at the same time. (Just like working on a shared file in Microsoft Excel).
    Note both make changes at the time on different pages.
    To save time...

    Another option, if the file is a large mupltiple page design, is to divide the document into chapters or sections. Save each section as a separate InDesign file and then combine them using a book (.indb). File > New > Book...
    Different users could edit the individual sections or chapters, and then when all is ready to go, the book can be used to package the documents, export to PDF, etc.
    Not very efficient for small documents, but it can make life easier for long documents.

  • Sharing my files

    Hello, I have managed to start sharing my files on my iMac over the network so anyone on my network can ftp into them using a web brower. Is there a way I can make it so you can ftp into them with my ip so I can be at school and still access and download my files.

    Do you have to do it that way? Consider using "Dropbox" 2GB of online storage for free (up to 100GB available to paying customers).

  • Accessing indd files in a three-tier setup

    I made a prototype InDesign Server application where the client tier, middle tier (containing the .indd files) and InDesign Server tier were all the same (my Mac).
    I'm currently setting up an environment where each tier is a separate machine on the local network. There is only 1 InDesign Server tier, but there are multiple client and middle tiers.
    The middle tiers (where the .indd files reside) can connect to the InDesign Server tier (via Corba).
    My question is whether there is a common way the InDesign Server tier can access the .indd files on the middle tiers?
    The most obvious solution seems to be via shared folders, but I was wondering if there is another, more flexible solution.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Double Clicking on .indd file opens wrong version of InDesign - Windows 7

    Every time I try to just double click on the file to open it opens with InDesign CS5.5. I have CC installed and just went through a whole process online with Adobe Support about removing previous versions using the Cloud tool. I removed all but CC 2014. CS 5.5 does not show up in the Cloud tool. I've also tried to go into my system preferences and set it to open with CC2014 by default. First, it doesn't even show up as an option. Secondly, it doesn't let me select it when I browse for it and select it that way.

    Uninstalling older versions after installing a new one is pretty much guaranteed to remove common files you need and mess up program behavior.
    In general, unless you hack the registry, Windows will always use the last version of a program that you've installed to open files associated with that program, so reinstalling CC2014 is probably the quickest way to get it associated with .indd files (and to reinstall the icon handler, so you see the correct icons, if you don't now).

  • Idlk files replacing indd files permanently. How can I retrieved them?

    I have recently installed CS CC 2014.12. I have worked only on two Indd docs, and both have been replaced with an idlk file for days after. I can no longer access the indd file - and have lost them completely! Can you advise where they might be and why this has happened?
    I also cannot save the file to the server (Error code :0) and have to Save As which I am then told the file is 'in use by another user' (I have since closed it and no-one else has access). I try to copy and apste the info into another file, so I don't lose it altogether, and InDesign won't let me copy and save the contents onto another indd doc 'in use by another user'! Can you help pls.
    Thank you

    I am working in Maverick 10.9.5.
    Yes, I can save to the hard drive, but can no longer open files form the shared drive.
    I was always able to work directly from the server if needed - but now I cannot even open the files from there, without them being corrupted.
    Just prior to the above, I had a (v. small) InDesign file open and it froze when left unattended - following/concurrently the idlk file was created and the file corrupted. Since this occurrence all files have become idlk files on the server. Even Photoshop takes at least 5 mins to let me reopen a file I have closed (as above) - as apparently I  'do not have permission...' or 'the file is already in use...'

  • Sharing response files

    How can I share a response file with other Acrobat X users so they can also view responses as they are submitted? I have tried putting the original form, the distributed version of the form, and the response file, on another Acrobat X Pro user's computer, but they are getting a message that says "network resource not found."

  • Can I locate an .InDD file via the Folio Builder?

    Hi everyone! With InDesign CS6, I've created a presentation and shared it with 6 people via the DPS and Adobe Content Viewer. Now I have an edit to make and the results are not showing up when I preview on desktop or the iPad connected to the computer. I'm thinking I may have the wrong InDesign file open since I created different versions while troubleshooting some other problems (although I'm 99% sure I have the right one open). Is there a way I can use the Folio Builder to point me to the right InDesign file? Much like how the Links palette tells me where an image lives in my hard drive.
    Thanks!

    I found what I'm looking for. In the Folio Builder, go down to the Article view, click the drop down menu arrow, choose Relink. That will give the path of the InDD file. Or in my case, since I renamed the InDD file, this confused the Folio Builder into thinking the file no longer exists. So the Relink option also allows me to point the Article to the appropriate file.
    What's interesting is even though InDesign doesn't know where the file is at, it still retains the entire Folio.

  • How to get all TextFrame from ImportedPage INDD Files?

    Hi everyone!
    Do you know the javascript scripts to get all textFrames in importedPage (.indd file)? Is it posible to do that or have some trick to do it?

    Use
    JDR_UTILS.LISTDOCUMENTS
    Use this API to list of all OA Framework the documents in a path/module. This script is very handy, as it provides a list of all the desired documents/extensions/personalizations in one go.
    DECLARE
    BEGIN
    jdr_utils.listdocuments('/oracle/apps/po/setup', TRUE);
    END;

  • Can't open INDD file from icon

    I have an installation of InDesign CS3 (upgraded from CS2) that won't let the user open a file from it's icon. You get the error message of "<filename> is not a valid win32 application"   The file will open if you open InDesign and use the file open menu.  The icon isn't the InDesign icon either-looks like a doc file icon without Word installed.  I've gone into File Types (from the Tools-Folder Options-File Type window) and tried to manually made the indd file open with CS3 but that still didn't work (oddly when I try to use the CS3 icon it too has a generic .exe icon).<br /><br />If I log in as myself (admin rights on the Windows XP) and once I did the above it worked for me.  I gave the user full rights and tried the above again but it didn't work-still wouldn't open by clicking on the icon-just keep getting that error message.  Any help would be great as I can't seem to come across anything googled that is helping.

    This is a follow-up.  My question has been answered in that  did get to open the file as follows:
    By trial and error (based on responses)  basically I was able to open the file as a copy from inside InDesign. There are three options in the lower left had corner of the window, I picked copy after trying the other two. Up until this time I could not find any idlk file.
    Once I opened the file I backed it up and made another copy that I opened.  I went back to the original file and tried to open it from finder. It would not open. Still no sign of the idlk file.  But when I went back to open the work copy it opened but now the idlk file popped up in the finder  and it continues to do so every time I open any file associated.    This idlk file comes up with an icon that says "Locked"
    My only question now: Is there a way to unlock this file from whatever it is linking to? Does it make any difference at this point?
    I have learned this is a temp file of sorts that prevents changes to the original file. I would like to unlock the file so that it not connected to anything.
    I have moved or deleted all files that it might be linking to.  I have shut down other computers and hard drives using the same network. The idlk file come up every time. It goes away when I close the file.  I have also deleted it while the file is open. I deleted all attempts at creating Book files. I'v been through preferences and checked Assignments. It seems like once you make a copy of a file, the original is always looking for the copy? Or the copy for the original?
    So I'm working and making separate files for each chapter so that I can set up a book and have back-up and maybe create a whole new Book file that isn't linked to anything else but maybe that's not necessary.
    I've been working with InDesign for a long time and never encountered this phenomenon before.
    Thanks again for your responses.

  • Questions on organizing/sharing music files on 3 PC networked drive

    I just added 1Tb network drive to 3 pc home network... I am planning on moving my iTunes music folder from the older, smaller network drive. I exceeded the 160GB size of the old drive when converting all of the WMA losselss files to Apple lossless while maintaining the old WMA files(I still think the Windows Media Player system is superior). With the new addition to our network, I am planning on the 3 pcs sharing music files... (my wife has been using iTunes for a while, I have just recently went over to the dark side)
    What is the best way to organize the files??
    -How to shuffle all without the folder of Christmas & Holiday music playing.
    -Segregate each users individual files.
    Any advice or suggestions are appreciated, I know it would save a lot of time and pain instead of the trial and error method.

    Thanks, Jason & Mike. This is how I resolved the problem. Turned out the disk with the data was in NTFS format. Neither my eMac nor my wife's Carbon iMac (prehistoric, in other words) was able to read it, on repeated attempts. In process I discovered (to my surprise) that the external hard drive attached to my eMac (a 320 Gig My Book) was formatted in FAT 32 format, and that the PC laptop (Thinkpad) read from it, and wrote to it, without any problem. (Is FAT 32 less than optimal for use with a pre-Intel Mac?). So I just copied the needed files from the NTFS disk to the FAT 32 disk, via the Thinkpad. When I reconnected the FAT 32 drive to the eMac, it turned out that it was easy [with some fiddling] to put the titles of the new music into the iTunes Library, without having to copy the music itself into iTunes. Making playlists does still seem to have to go manually. Sometimes the "New Playlist from Selection" option automatically gives a name (the original name) to the album from which the music came, sometimes it doesn't. Rationale not clear to me. Other problem: often the sequence is jumbled (this is after I added the whole collection of folders containing music to my iTunes Library in one fell swoop). Usually it was possible to correct this by copying track names for albums one album at a time from the external HD (in Columns view, selecting all the tracks in each folder simultaneously) directly into the playlist; the playlist name then always had to be copied or typed in separately. I don't know if I'm missing an easier route. Also, I see that I have version 4.7.1 of iTunes - I'll download a newer version! Don't know whether newer version will affect what I want to do in a positive sense.

  • Error when opening indd-file: Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the...

    Hi! I'm having trouble opening a indd-file. It was sent to me as a zip-fil along with the used fonts and links. When I try to open the file, I'm getting this error: "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application". I've tried to look up this error both here in these forums and through google, but can't find a similar case. Hope someone can help me with this. Please let me know if you need more information/details, and I'll provide. Thanks!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    I'm suspecting it to come from a mac user, if that could influence the case...
    It does come from a Mac, as is proven by the fonts, which are of no use on my Windows machine, but that doesn't prevent my CS4 to open it without any problem. It seems to me it's a perfectly regular CS2 file.
    Just for cheers I set the file to Read-only, but my InDesign opens it regardless (again as a copy, because it's a "converted" file).
    Could it be something in your environment? No network read/write privileges, insufficient free hard disk space, stuff like that?

  • Script to open INDD files, run script, and close

    Hello, I'm looking for a script that will open a folder of Indesign files, open each one, run a selected script, then close each file.
    RIght now I'm using the Batch convert script, to convert INDD to INDD and run the script in between (then I delete the extra INDD file). But I'm trying to eliminate the conversion element, just need the script part of it.
    Anyone have any help? Thanks.

    Here's my whole code if it helps. I'm wondering if the script is moving too fast. I think that the first files are still PDFing while the others are opening and closing. Could that be it? I'm not sure why else the for loop for the PDFing is only working on the first file.
    var myFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select Input Folder");
    var myIndsnFiles = myFolder.getFiles("*.indd");
    var exportPath=Folder("/").selectDlg("Select PDF output folder:");
    var pdfPreset = "Press Quality";
    for(k=0; k<myIndsnFiles.length; k++)
        app.open(myIndsnFiles[k]);
        var jobNumber = "12345";
            for (aPage=0; aPage < app.activeDocument.pages.length; aPage++)
                app.pdfExportPreferences.pageRange = app.activeDocument.pages[aPage].name;
                app.activeDocument.exportFile (ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, File(exportPath+"/"+jobNumber+"_"+pad(app.activeDocument.pages[aPage].name)+".pdf"), false, pdfPreset);
                function pad (n) {
                return ("00000"+n).slice(-3);
    app.activeDocument.close();
