Sharing iWeb on two Macs???

Howdy all,
I've just got myself a Macbook pro and lovin every minute of it.
Is it possible to send my iWeb work from my imac to my MBP, so updates to my pages can be done on either?
thanks. -JD

Howdy,
The site in maintained in a file called "domain" located in your user library/application support/iweb.
This file can be moved to a location or computer of choice. If it's not in the default location it can be double clicked to access it.
Iweb looks in the last location used for the domain file. If it does not fine it it ask for the location.
An easy way to move from computer to computer is to place the file on a usb flash drive and access it from there on whatever computer.
The domain file should also always be backed up. If it get lost or corrupted you're pretty much starting over.
good luck

  • Sharing iTunes across two macs?

    Hi Folks,
I have two macs in the house. One a mini linked to a tv and an iMac. The iMac holds my primary iTunes Library. What I would like to do is share the same library with the mini mac, without having to use the sharing option. Before 10.5 I had the library on an external drive that both applications could see and use, since upgrading to 10.5, it will still see them but front row will not??? Also if I do use the share option none of the album art can be seen? Anybody have any ideas? Thanks, Andrew.

If you want all users to access the same music, ratings, playlist, etc, do this.
    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire iTunes folder from /Username/Music to /Users/Shared.
    3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Option key.
3 iTunes will ask to *Create new library* or *Choose existing library*. Select *Choose existing library*.
4 Select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> *Add to library* and select the iTunes folder located in /Username/Music.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
7 Delete the iTunes folder in Username/Music
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Option). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to *Playlist is not the playlist* you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time. If you have Fast user switching enabled, the other users must quit iTunes in order for anyone else to use it.

  • Advice on sharing files between two Macs please?

    Hello all,
I have two G4s, one running 10.3.9 and one running 10.4. They are both connected to an ethernet router for internet. I would like to share files between these two computers as well as share a printer connected to the G4 running Panther.
After reading the Apple docs, I'm a bit confused, so I've posted here for clarification if possible.
From what I understand I can simply "turn on file sharing" on both and then grab and move files to the "Public" folder only of each G4?
I can also simply "turn on printer sharing" and share my printer with the Tiger G4?
In either case, will the G4s mount on each other's desktops?
Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Have you actually tried it yet? You're not clear on that bit!
It should just work. Be aware that shaing over ethernet is all about IP adresses. Normally you wouldn't think about this, but your router will probably assign these to the two macs automatically. In theory.
A good thing to know is, if you are on Mac A, with Sharing set up as ON on the other Mac (B), you can log in AS THE USER on Mac B, thereby gaining total access to that machine - not just the shared folder. However, if you log on as a "guest" you will only get into the shared folder.
The thing to remember is, go to preferences in the Finder (nont System Prefs) and click the Sidebar tab at the top. Make sure that Connected Servers and Netwrk are ticked to appear in the sidebar.
Any window you open in the FInder will now have a Network icon on the left. Touch this, and the other Mac shold appear (after a delay) like a disk. Click it, and then you can click through to log into it.
You can set up network disks to automount at startup too.
    Good luck.

  • Sharing files between two macs over the internet

I'm trying to work out how to connect two macs across the internet and am wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a "very basic , step by step, how to" file or manual.
I've browsed some of the discussion in this forum and some are more helpful than others but none seem to start with the very basics of what should or should not be turned on in the firewall settings and the the security issues mentioned in one ot two threads.
I'm not looking for " hold my hand tutorial" just a pointer to where I can do some more reading so I can inform myself and possibly ask some emore intelligent questions
I'm trying to connect a B&W G3, OSX 10.4.6, connect to the internet through a dsl modem over an ethernet network, to a remote Imac G5 , OSX 10.4.6 also connected through a different dsl modem over an ethernet network.
    Thanks

  • Sharing Photos between two Mac's

    Hello,
I do have two MBP at home both with SL. How can I share the iphoto library in one Mac, in order to save disk space in the second Mac. If I share the pictures folder and connect from the second Mac, I can see the Iphoto Library file but, cannot open it. Maybe is there also any easy solution like Home Sharing in Itunes? Thank you. Evren

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both machnes for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto on both machines. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
On each machine in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both machines will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • File Sharing problem between two macs on the same network.

Have a iMac and a Mac Mini and a MacAir on the network. We have file sharing turned on on all 3. The Mac Mini keeps popping up a error message that states "There is a problem connecting to a Server "iMac". However the Mac Mini is connected to the iMac and is sharing files between the two.

This has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

  • Using iWeb on two Macs?

    Hi,
I just recently ditched Windows for my iPod, iPhones, iMac and a MacBook - so please forgive any obvious things that I am missing...
I have a MacBook and an iMac. During the week, I work on the MacBook but now I'd like to do some work with iWeb on the iMac since I'm home. How can I get the site onto my iMac from the MacBook?
I'm going to do it was I would with Windows: look for the files, copy over to a shared folder... just want to make sure that I'm not missing a better way.
    thanks!
    Chris

The key file that iWeb works with is its Domain file usually located here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/...
This Apple article explains more: "iWeb: Publish to your .Mac account from more than one computer"...

  • Sync iWeb Across Two Macs

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Recently I have had the urge to start a website/blog and would like to do so using iWeb. I plan to do some work from each computer. I have a MobileMe subscription. Is there a way to sync my iWeb site across the two machines using MobileMe?
I am on iLife '09 and SnowLeopard.

Scott ~ Rather than trying to use MobileMe's Sync feature, you'll perhaps have better control simply manually copying iWeb's Domain file to your other Mac via your iDisk on MobileMe:

Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries or all comments or unable to publish, etc. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:

  • Another home sharing issue between two macs.

I have a mac mini as main library for iTunes and all music, the shared folder is showing on desktop just fine. I have a macbook pro where I keep limited music, and there is no sharing folder to be found. I have tripple checked all sharing settings, everything is golden there. I have deauthorized and reauthorized both computers. I have double checked the wifi from my laptop to dektop a few times and that seems to be ok as well. So why can I not seem to figure out what is happening?
I have read tons of posts about this, and still have no answer. There are posts that say the routers were the issue, but I cant seem to understand how to check for something like that.
Very frusterated girl looking to be pointed in the right direction. Please and thank you.

  • IPhoto shared library on two Macs

I'm running iPhoto 9.1 on an iMac and also on my MacBook Air. My 8,000 photos are stored on the iMac but I'd like to see them and edit them from the MacBook Air too.
I know you can share them and then I can then import them on my MacBook Air but isn't that just copying them across to the MacBook? I'd like to be able to edit my library (delete some, create new Folders etc.) from the comfort of the MacBook without going to the iMac.
    Is this possible?
    Thank you.
    Richard.

The easiest way to back up a Library is to simply copy it - so link the two machines together and copy the Library from Machine A to Machine B. Result: two identical copies of the Library on both machines. Obviously there are lots of apps out there that will make this process automatic and incremental, but the basic priniciple is the same.
However, this is not the same as syncing - depending on how you define syncing:
What do you mean by "Sync".
The general term means when two Libraries (A and B) are compared and files in Library A are copied to Library B, while files in Library B are also copied to Library A so that both Libraries are identical.
This is bi-directional copying and you cannot do this with automatically with iPhoto. No Syncing software is capable of parsing the iPhoto Library in this manner. One or both of your Libraries will be damaged if you try this.
s described above, you can have uni-directional copying - files in Library A are copied to Library B - this is essentially backing up. Obviously you can also copy from Library B to Library A.
The nearest you can get to syncing is to use iPhoto Library Manager to move files/Albums/Events plus associated metadata between Libraries. This process cannot be automated.
I want to merge them so that the work done in each is preserved.
Merging means combining the two Libraries into one - that's a whole other thing from backing up or syncing. You can merge Libraries with iPhoto Library Manager

  • IWeb on two macs ?

Is it possible to sync my iWeb content between my iMac and macbookpro?
Would I have to put the iWeb content on a separate hard drive and connect by firewire each time I want to do some editing?  Not sure at all about how this can be done. Followed an older community discussion link but it didn't seem to work for me.
    Thanks for your help.
    Douglas.

Yes, these files are hidden in Lion, so do a search of this forum and search for something like Lion and hidden folders and Old Toad has some code to enter to make these folders permanently visible in Lion.
Below is a copy of what you need:-
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Sharing Bookmarks Between Two Macs?

I may know how to do this, but probably not. I work in my MacBookPro at work and an iMac at home and in my Net research I'm always tweaking my bookmarks. I also use Dropbox to keep key files synced. So what is the file that determines the bookmark setup and appearance in Safari, (bookmarks.plst?) and can I put it in my Dropbox somehow to sync the Safaris in the two computers??

See an answer to you at your post in the Getting Online and Networking forums. One post in the appropriate area is usually sufficient.

  • Sharing photos on two macs

Is there is a way that if you upload pix or video to iPhoto or iMovie that it goes on both computers?

    Not automatically, no.
If you want to configure something you may be able to do it with Automator, AppleScript and Folder Actions and/or an app like Hazel

  • Using iPhoto Library in Ext HD for two macs

I realize that if I put my desktop library on an ext hd and open from my laptop (same user name) it won't have albums or events or something and that I mess things up if I try to add photos from the laptop. But can I just point my laptop to the ext hd to view or copy photos and then later successfully fully use my ext HD library in my desktop? I'm pretty sure my laptop would open the ext hd library, I'm concerned about the laptop writing something to the library that would get me in trouble on my desktop. I just want to be able to view pictures on my laptop. I've haven't tried it since I didn't want to write to the Ext HD library (if the laptop would do that).

    Really easy:
Enable Sharing in the iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), on the iMac. Leave iPhoto running and move to the laptop. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The iMac Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machines for this to work.
it won't have albums or events or something and that I mess things up if I try to add photos from the laptop.
Actually, it will have exactly the same Albums, Events etc. After all, it’s the same Library.
that I mess things up if I try to add photos from the laptop.
No you won’t. What will mess things up is if you try and open the Library on both machines at the same time.

If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:

Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. Now I'm going to try to transfer the music into the iTunes library on the PowerBook, then sync with that, delete the library on the iMac, and sync the (hopefully full of all my music) iPhone with the iMac again.
