Sharing Photo's between Aperture and iPhoto and syncing to iPads, etc
Here is my problem.
I have 5 Macs (1 iMac, 4 laptops.) There are 4 people in my family and we have the family pack of iLife. The iMac is where everything sits with a time capsule and Drobo hanging off of it - about 6 TB's of data. Each Mac sync's with a variety of iPods, iTouchs and iPads. All linked to a user. So for example, all my oldest son's devices sync with only his laptop.
Well, I finally fixed my media (songs, movies, TV shows, etc) problem by leveraging home share in iTunes and authorizing all my Macs. But not so lucky yet for Photo's.
Here is the my photo dilemma.
I like Aperture for the editing and ability to handle large libraries better. So I have Aperture installed on the iMac where everything sits. iPhoto is also installed on the iMac and iPhoto is on all 4 other laptops. Prior to moving to Aperture, sharing photo's between computers was relatively easy using sharing in iPhoto - although it appears sharing in iPhoto is different than home share in iTunes. I converted my iPhoto library on the iMac to Aperture - now sharing is a pain in the neck.
Ideally, a Home Share like feature would be built into Aperture and iPhoto with another feature that would allow you to "check for new photos" on the laptops and pull them into Aperture - but wishful thinking right now.
So my while my 2 new iPads are awesome - they are basically useless for Photo's as they are synced to 2 laptops that use iPhoto, but all my Photos are in Aperture on the iMac.

Does anybody know if there is a way to use the same photo directory and library using Iphoto as well as Aperture? I don't want to duplicate all my photo's on my harddisk.I just ran into the same problem. I was going to switch to Aperture completely until iPhoto went from 5 to 6. It has a lot of the new features that Aperture has but there are still some awesome features in Aperture that I can't live without. One thing Aperture is missing is that it doesn't check for duplicates when importing pics. So what I decided to do is use iPhoto as my importer (whether from a camera or folder), and then use Aperture's import menu to import the rolls or pictures I want. If you haven't tried it out yet, do so. It is really awesome since it lets you select the rolls as they are saved in iPhoto and gives you a preview of each picture.

HT204655 How to have a unified Photos Library after migrated from iPhoto and Aperture?
The "HT204655: Get started with Photos for OS X" do not help. If you have previously used iPhoto and Aperture, when you "migrate" the iPhoto, then follow the steps to "migrate" the Aperture library, you end up with 5 files in your Pictures folder: Photos Library (from iPhoto), Photos Library 2(from Aperture), iPhoto Library (Not sure if can be deleted or not - of course no), Aperture Library (for some reason blank), Aperture Library 2 (Created by Photos?).
So, looks like a mess and no easy way to make a clean migration.
I've a hope that exists a solution to have a single Photos Library with the merged iPhoto and Aperture contents, like a real migration.
If I export everything (From iPhoto and Aperture) then import in the Photos in a single Library should work, but will lose all the organization, faces, etc...You could merge libraries with iPhoto Library Manager, but I never tried this for merging Aperture 3 libraries with iPhoto 8.
Are you planning to keep all your photos in iCloud? Then consider to merge them in iCloud, but it will take a long time.
Are you using iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and have enough iCloud storage for the merged library?
Wait, till your current Photos Library has been completely uploaded to iCloud.
Then quit Photos, and launch it again, while holding down the alt/options key. Select the old iPhoto lIbrary.
When the upgrade of the old library has been finished, make this library the System Photos library (in the Photos Preferences > General).
Enable again iCloud Photo Library (Beta) in the Photos > iCloud preferences.
Now Photos will upload the new library to iCloud as well and create a merged library in iCloud. After this merged library synced with your Mac, you will have a merged Photos library. -
Aperture keywords and iPhoto and the iPod video error -50
A heads up for anyone who is moving photo's from Aperture to iPhoto. If you have use nested keywords in Aperture then you export to use in iPhoto ( since there is know iLife integration at this time)( also very poor on apples part ) you will get a error in iTunes -50 unknown error.
To fix this all you have to do is remove the offending keyword from iPhoto's master keywords list and you good to go. Wish it did not take me 2 full day to figure this out.I actually did something similar. Except I dumped whole projects or split projects in two and then dumped one, until I was left with 1 project with only 1 image. Took a few hours but finally found one image who's caption seemed to be corrupt (had garbage character at the front). Once I deleted the caption (had to do it in GraphicConverter) it all worked. The photo was part of a set of photos that I had imported from iPhoto, so I definitely think it has something to do with Aperture's iPhoto import. So not quite the same issue as you, but I think probably related.

How do I restore photos from Time Machine? All of my photos have been imported within iPhoto and therefore are exported to Time Machine via an iPhoto file. I can't figure out how to break individual photo files out of the iPhoto file. Any ideas?
You might post this query on the iPhoto forum and perhaps someone there can provide an answer.
I tried this on my MBP and it seems that you have to restore the entire iPhoto Library. What I did was put the current library in a separate folder on the desktop and then I restored the library from a prior date. If you were to do that, you then could extract the desired photos and then delete the restored library. Then place the current library back to the original location and import the desired photos.
Not tidy but it seems it will work.

Just upgraded to the latest iTunes and iPhoto and now cannot change photos on my iPad, can anyone help please?
Try one or more of the following:
> Restart Your Computer
> Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
> Reset iPod (nothing will get deleted)
> Look in My Computer (Windows 98, XP) OR Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if your iPod is in there.
In some cases (and this happened to me before) plug your iPod in and out your computer a few times. It should get it going. If not, then I strongly recommend starting your computer. -
Shared Photo Streams not appearing in iPhoto.
I have a few Photo Streams that were recently shared with me. I can access them fine on my iPhone. When I am on my MacBook Air however, these Photo Stream folders are no where to be found.
I followed this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3989 and more specifically double checked these instructions:
I don't see any photos or shared photo streams in the Photo Stream view of iPhoto or Aperture.
Check the following:
From your Mac, choose System Preferences > iCloud, and make sure the Photo Stream checkbox is enabled.
Open iPhoto or Aperture, choose Preferences > Photo Stream.
If you are using iPhoto 9.4 or later, or Aperture 3.4 or later, make sure that both the My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams checkboxes are selected. If you'd like all new photos that you've uploaded to your iPhoto or Aperture library to be uploaded to My Photo Stream, make sure that the Automatic Upload checkbox is selected as well.
If you are using iPhoto 9.2.2 through 9.3.2, or Aperture 3.2.3 through 3.3.2, make sure that Enable Photo Stream and Automatic Import are selected.
Make sure your Mac has an an active Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
Everything was set up as suggested above.
My Macbook is on iPhoto 9.2.3, with OS 10.7.5
My iPhone is on 6.1.3
Additionally, when i view photos from a shared photo stream folder on my phone and then select to save one of the photos to my Camera roll, the photo is still not syncing to my Photo stream on the Mac.
Any ideas?

Having a similar issue as the one described by kmacd... I'm trying to set up Shared Photo Streams between my MacBook Pro (Late 2009 13") and my iPhone 4, to essentially use them as streaming albums. Both devices are set up with iCloud with the same account, and both have all settings enabled for Shared Photo Streams, as I can create and modify streams in both. The problem is that when I create a new stream on one, it never shows up on the other! I never receive an invite, which I assume I wouldn't since it's all the same account. Just not sure why the Shared Streams don't sync over multiple devices when the normal My Photo Stream works perfectly fine. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

On my macbook pro I have a message on my homepage telling me that certain items want to use my keychain. I've pressed cancel the message will not go. The mac is now running very slow and iphoto and safari are not working. Can anyone help?

why do videos from a shared photo stream not appear in iPhoto? Within iMovie, it appears as though videos can be imported from the iPhoto library. However, within iPhoto there are no videos that appear within the Library. Is it possible to import photos into iPhoto from a shared photo stream? if not, how can videos be imported into iPhoto?

i guess you could put the aiport utility app on your iphone, click on the aiport express there, it will show you how many devices are connected to it and the mac addresses of those devices.

Make sure you are entering the contacts and calendar events on your iCloud account. On your iPad, check Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar. Here make sure you have selected an iCloud calendar as your default, and not something else like On My iPad, Google Calendar, and exchange account calendar, etc.
Then go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the contacts section) and make sure you have selected iCloud as your default. (If you don't see this settings, this isn't the problem).
If your settings for your calendar is correct on your iPad and it still won't sync new calendar events to your phone, go to icloud.com from your computer and enter any missing calendar events on your iPad that are not on your calendar on icloud.com. Once your iCloud calendar is up to date, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Calendars to Off, choose Delete from My iPad when prompted, then after a minute or so turn Calendars back to On to sync your iCloud calendars back to your phone. Then enter a new event on your iPad and confirm that it syncs to icloud.com now.
If your settings for your contacts are correct on your iPad and it still won't sync new contacts to your phone, do the same thing for Contacts (add any missing contacts to icloud.com, turn iCloud syncing off, choose Delete from My iPhone, after a minute turn contact syncing back on, try adding a new contacts to confirm that it syncs). -
I had purchased an audio book from itunes on my iPad and when I synced my iPad with my computer, my audiobook disappeared. I have already purchased this audiobook, so now I just need to know how to get it back because it is not on iPad anymore. I don't think the audiobook was backed up to icloud but I have the receipt to prove I purchased it. Is there anyway I can get it back?

If you purchased it on your ipad, then you would have to transfer it to your computer. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.

A recent update download upset my entire itunes program. Unable to use to sync iphone, ipad, etc nor run any other updates. Get runtime error message, Error 7 (windows error 1114) etc...and contact app support team. Says itunes not installed correctly, pls reinstall. tried to no avail.
First try updating to iTunes 11.1.5.5, using an installer downloaded from the Apple website:

Wrt160n is not accepting the ip address in the TO IP ADDRESS box in single port forwarding
help am i doing some thing wrong here i have followed the instructions from pfconfig for opening a port for Bitcomet but when i try to enter my ip address it allows me to enter the first 2 digits of the address and then says out of range. Bit comet
