Sharing Win 7 Printer on Mac - Works Once, Not Twice - Why?

Hi! I'm have a strange problem setting up printing from a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 to a shared printer connected via USB to a Win 7 PC. Here are the details of the issue. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have an HP PSC 2100 printer connected via USB to a Win 7 PC. I followed the instructions found via the link below to create 2 copies of the printer. I have one "printer" set to print in grayscale (BW_Printer) and the other set to print in color (Color_Printer). The BW_Printer is the default printer.

I then set up sharing for both copies of the printer so that my daughter can print to them from her MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8.
Next I followed the steps at the link below to set them up as LPD printers. Note: There are a couple of different suggestions at that site based on what OS the MacBook is running, so I'll include the steps I followed below the link.

On the Windows 7 PC:
1. In Windows 7 Control Panel
2. Select "Programs and Features" pane
3. Click "Turn Windows Features on or off"
4. Click on the "LPD Print Service", under "Print and Document Services"
5. Ensure printer(s) are shared
On the Mac:
1. Open "System Preferences" - "Print & Fax"
2. Click "+" to add a printer
3. Right hand button tool bar to customize and add "Advanced" button
4. Select "Advanced"
5. In the "Type:" field select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer"
6. In the "URL:" field enter lpd://IPserver/PrinterShareName; (e.g., lpd://10.0.1.4/mp800)
Using lpd://ServerName/PrinterShareName does not work, the IP address must replace ServerName
The IP address is the address of your PC, the one assigned by your router
7. Click the "Add" button
Note: The one Mac step that is not listed above is the ability to chose the driver for the specific printer you are sharing. I chose the HP PSC 2100 driver for both copies of the printer.
OK, so I added both printers to the Mac using:
lpd://192.168.1.9/BW_Printer
lpd://192.168.1.9/Color_Printer
So after all that, here's the problem:
When I print to Color_Printer from the Mac, everything works fine. The documents print and they print in color.
However, when I try to print to BW_Printer, the print monitor on the Mac says that it is copying the print data but then it pauses the printer and nothing prints. If I click "Resume Printing" in the Mac's print monitor window, it once again says "Copying Print Data" and then, once again, it pauses the printer.
I tried deleting the BW_Printer on the Mac and adding it again but it didn't help.
Can anyone explain why the above process would work for the printer named "Color_Printer" but not for "BW_Printer"? The only difference between 2 printers, besides the name, is that on the Win 7 side one copy is set to grayscale and the other is not.

I finally have time to read this forum to see if I can find a solution to what appears to be the same problem BrooklynBlueEyes has. In my case, I brought home an extra PC we had from work for my wife to use (to keep her off my mac). It had been upgraded to Windows 7. I just had bought an Airport Extreme, which works wireless and also through the wires we have running to all of the rooms. I have tried to get the PC to work (wired) through the Airport Extreme, but nothing I tried seems to work. I called the IPS (Comcast), which said it was an Apple problem. short of uninstalling Windows 7, is there anything I can do? I am not very techno-literate, so if you could keep any explanation on the simple side, it sure would help.

You can retrieve the certificate and check who issued the certificate.

Printing pdf from mac, works once then printer offline?

I print wirelessly to a Brother HL-2270DW from a macbook pro running OSX 10.9.2 When printing from pages, numbers, email etc it works properly but when I print a PDF using adobe reader 11.0.07 it works once and then I can't print again, printer status is changed to offline. I contacted Brother first and this was their reply...

Since you have stated that the model is able to print fine from other applications, but is unable to print from PDF, the issue is isolated to ADOBE.
The issue is not related to the model or the drivers because the issue would occur all the time with all programs.

If after reviewing the information you have further inquiries about the PDF issue, please reply and we will be happy assist you.

Thank you for posting on the Adobe forums, kindly try printing as an image. Try the steps mentioned below.
1) Open the file>Print>Advanced
2) Check the box>print as an image.

OCR on Acrobat 9 Pro not working - will not explain why.

I ran the OCR function on multiple 500-page PDF documents for an upcoming project. For the most part, the OCR worked. However, OCR DID NOT work on specific pages within the documents (would usually happen once or twice every few thousand pages). I went back through the PDF documents to try and run the OCR on the individual pages that did not work the first time, and the screen showed the following error: "Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) on this page because:". There was nothing else in the error box - no explanation as to why OCR would not work on those individual pages.
Has anyone else had luck with this problem? I would really appreciate any help I can get.

Very likely the pages of interest have a least one character of renderable text. This might not be readily seen by you or me but it'd be there.
Acrobat's OCR will not process a page that has any renderable text.

Shared HP 6L printer no longer works after upgrade to Mavericks

Prior to upgrade was able to share old HP Laserjet 6L with another Mac....believe driver was Gutenprint 5.3xx.... Have not been able to find new driver to make printer work...Any sugestions on how to resolve issue...short of buying a new printer...althought it is probably time. Thanks

I tried several times to delete and add printer.Gutentenprint not an option to select defaults to Generic Postscrit Printer.
When I deleted and re-added my HP (which is connected by ethernet), where the default "Use: Generic Postscript" showed up, "Select Software" is an option in the pull-down menu. That gives all the Gutenprint choices.

Sharing a Multifunction Printer with Mac & PC

I have a Canon MP780 Multifunction printer that I want to share the printing and scanning between my Mac Mini and my Windows PC. I was going to buy a print server to use on my network but they do not support multifunction printers. I was hoping to share without having to have both computers on which would be required if I share the printer on my network.
Anyone have a suggestion for a solution?

The Canon MP780, like most "budget" all-in-one printers, is a "personal use only" device designed to connect directly to a Mac or PC USB port. This device is not designed to be shared on a network - and if you do connect it to a network (via either a print server device, or connected to a Mac or PC and then shared) the best you will be able to do is print to it.
If you want to share all functions of a multifunction printer between a PC and a Mac on a network, buy a device designed for this job like the HP PSC Photosmart 2610.

Apple TV; sharing to my iPad and iPhone works but not to wife's iPad or iPhone?

My apologies, I have been searching FAQ's and couldn't find any resolution - it is late for me!
Purchased new Apple TV (2nd gen) last week and after solving slow internet issues set up all content to be "home shared" to my devices (iPad 2, iPhone 4) - GOOD! Unfortunately nothing is being shared to my wife's iPad 2 or iPhone 3GS from the Apple TV but is being shared from the iMac to her devices- BAD!
We make all purchases on my iTunes account but also use my account for "home sharing" on my wife's devices, all settings APPEAR to be the same. I did notice that in iTunes, under "Store", "my account", "manage my account" that only my iMac, iPad and iPhone show up as devices "In the Cloud". If I click "manage devices" I don't have an option to add more devices (wife's iPad and iPhone). How can I add them so they receive content from Apple TV as well?
The only work-around I have figured out is to download the purchases that were originally made on the Apple TV in my iMac iTunes and then they are pushed to my wife's devices - not very elegant. Is there a way to use iCloud to push purchases from Apple TV to all of our devices or am I doomed to do this every time something is bought on Apple TV?

Have you checked the Console logs to see if the system or iTunes might be reporting an issue with your equipment?
You can find Console in Applications>Utilities>Console.

Spry Tab link only works once... why?

I have a spry tabbed area with 4 tabs on my page. Each tab contains data that is dragged from an MSAccess table. A couple of the tabs have repeat regions. This all works fine. One of my tabs has a repeat region where I can click on a button image to change a record status from True to False (or visa versa). The click runs the associated vbscript which executes the SQL update statement no problem. However I noticed that when I changed the data on this tab and reloaded the page using a Response.redirect after the sql update was executed, it would default to the 1st tab and not the one I was viewing that contains the repeat region. A quick search led me to the SpryURLUtils.js file which solved that problem by allowing me to specify which tab to load. I appended the relevant code to give me this:

As I mentioned, the tab contains a repeat region. If I click on a button to change the status of that record the page reloads fine and displays the correct tab. But this only happens once... each subsequent time I try to change another record my tab contents disappear. The tabs are still visible and if I click on the tab where I've changed the data the tab content is dispalayed, but obvioulsy this isn't right... it should reload and display the correct tab with each call of the code.If I navigate away from this page and then come back to it I can successfully chnage one record and the results are displayed. Change another record and the changes are made, but the tab contents are not displayed again. The interesting thing is that if I reload/refresh the page the problem occurs staright away on the first record change.
So my question is 2-fold... Why is this happening and how do I solve the problem?

VPN on Mac works but not my iOS 7 devices

I am running OS X Mountain Lion Server 2.2.2 with the VPN switch on. I have no problem with my MBP connecting to the VPN server, however since upgrading to iOS 7 on my devices they will not connect. I keep receiving the following error. All the correct ports are forwarded and I am using an Airport Extreme as my router. This boggles my mind because VPN worked just fine on iOS 6, please help.
"The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator."

Had similar problem (could VPN to Mountain Lion Server 2.2.2 with my Mavericks Macbook Pro. When trying to VPN to the server from my IOS 7.0.4 iPhone, I could get a connection, but wasn't able to access my Contacts on the server - verification kept failing with and without SSL).
I had created the VPN profile using the Server app and then saved it and emailed it to my IOS 7.0.4 iphone. I also had access to an IOS 5.x iPad, and installed the same profile there. Contacts sync worked fine on the IOS 5 device.
I finally deleted the VPN profile on the iphone, and manually created one on the iPhone 7.0.4 by typing in the account info from the Server User pane and from the Server VPN pane.
It was a bit long typing in the shared secret, but when I was finished, I was able to connect, and now I could - on the iPhone - create a new Contacts account including server information, and the verification was successful. I can now access the Contacts on the iPhone and on my server.
Am guessing something in IOS 7.0.4 misreads the VPN profile, which causes problems down the line. Apple?

Hi, I tried it now, but it does not work, too. The purpose is to generate graphs later, get the data would be nice, creating synonyms on 500 databases without a change request is not really a good solution.

Detail pane works once, not onchange

I've got an application where - when the page loads, I
populate a drop down of categories. I have a second drop down that
loads entries based on the select category. Next I have an ID block
that handles a detail display of the entry.
Everything works perfectly. I can chance categories and the
entries change. When the page first loads, the detail page loads
right, but when I change the entry, it just goes blank. WHen I
change the category again, it works again, until I change the
entry.
So it must be the code I have for change on entries. Anyway,
I don't see a place to post code, so I'll just post it beneath. Not
sure how well it will render.

I believe it isn't working because you are calling
setCurrentRow() instead of setCurrentRowNumber().
setCurrentRow() requires a ds_RowID, and
setCurrentRowNumber() requires a row index.
Try making that change and let me know if it fixes things for
you.

Firefox 4. crashes on Print request - "prop res DLL not loaded" - Why?

Happens with every Print request to Lexmark 5100. Brother printer works OK.
It doesn't matter which web site. It will always crash as above. If I request the property sheet for the printer, that is when the DLL not loaded box comes up.
With prior 3. versions the printer works, and will work if I restart Ver 3. and then print (without re-booting the machine)
