Shift Cmd 4 + Space not working

Hi,
I used to be able to take a screenshot of the active window by pressing Shift Cmd 4 and then space and click, but I dont know why it's not running anymore.
Whenever I click Shift Cmd 4 and then space, the grey area covers the whole screen and when I click, it'll take screenshot of nothing. When I open the .PNG it'll be white-blank image.
I'm using Tiger and never modified setting preference on this, so I have no idea how it happened.
Can anyone here please help me to fix it?

Madok: you can also move your mouse around to take screenshot of your dock, task bar, etc and it doesn't have to be the most front window. After you hit space bar, you can roll your mouse around other windows and just click it.
Check out System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse - > Keyboard shortcuts to see other shortcuts, though they're not 100% complete (I also read little tricks from website / magazine)

You must enable iTunes Match on the new computer. The best way to accomplish what you want to do is to create a new, empty library by launching iTunes while holding down the Option key (Shift on Windows) and choosing "new library." See the above post for more information - here's a synopsis:
CTRL+SHIFT modifiers are not working while running LabVIEW in a Parallels 7 virtual machine. This problem affects both LV2011 and LV2012. I'm not certain that this is a LabVIEW bug - could be an issue with my virtual machine environment or it's configuration - except that CTRL+SHIFT modifiers work in other applications on the affected VMs. It's just LabVIEW that appears to ignore shortcuts with the CTRL+SHIFT modifiers.
Any ideas?

On certain sites (like chats), the shift symbols are not working correctly.

Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. As for your issue, I'm not sure if this is the case, but there is a little know keyboard shortcut to change the keyboard language on Windows. And it's very annoying, since it's easily triggered. I don't know exactly which one it is, but I think it's CTRL+SHIFT, the ones on the right. I suggest you ask Microsoft for support on this one. Firefox doesn't control keyboard languages.

My shift-r, right shift-f, and right shift-v is not working.

I've seen questions in the forum about shift-r not working, I've looked into my system preferences and it appears there are no short cuts associated with shift-r. My right shift-f and right shift-v are not working either. I'm using a new iMac (10.7.2) with the bluetooth keyboard that came with it. If I use caps lock I can get capital R, F and V. It's very strange. I'm assuming it's a setting that's messed up versus a bum keyboard? Thanks for any help you can give!

Good deal, glad it's taken care of. I had a wireless keyboard on which the caps lock key stayed lit all the time, even though it did turn the lock on and off. And sometimes it wouldn't light at all. I took it (just the keyboard) to a local AASP and they checked it out and called to say my new keyboard was ready to be picked up.

Shift factor is not working with Depreciation Base method- 0004

When I am changing shift factor and variable depreciation portion in asset master data. Its not calculating depreciation as per shift factor.
What can be the reason behind it.
Even I have already maintained config in depreciation key also for multiple shift.

Hi,
Shift factor works only with the variable portion of ordinary depreciation. The variable factor is defined as depreciation area level.
"When you use depreciation with a multiple shift factor, the system
multiplies the variable depreciation portion by the multiple shift factor"
In depreciation area tab of asset master data double click on the depreciation area. You can check the variable portion can be see under "Additional Specifications" tab. If the value is 0 then the shift factor will not work.

Command-shift-4 is not working!

Command-shift-4 is not working for me!
I know that the deafult shortcut for taking screenshots is command-shift-3, but i want to take portion of the screen and that is command-shift-4.
I have tried everything wich is;
1: Log out and restart then login, not working.
2: Repair the permissions, not working.
3: Unchecked the box for shortcut and checkd it again in System preferences > Keybord > Shortcuts, not working.
4: Created a new Admin-account, not working.
5: Resetet PRAM, not working.
6: Reinstalled the whole system, not working.
I will say that this problem only appears in OS X Lion but not in Snow Leopard.
If there is anyone who can help me fix this problem i would be really thankfull.

USB keyboard shift keys suddenly not working

For some reason, when I woke up my MacBook Pro this morning, both shift keys on my aluminium USB keyboard were not working. I'm using the keyboard with a Magic Mouse and LED cinema display connected to my MacBook. When I hold either shift key in combination with any other key, either nothing is typed, or there will be random characters typed, occasionally.
I ran AppleJack on auto to see if there were any problems. There were a few preferences it corrected, but nothing major was wrong. I connected the keyboard to a friend's MacBook Pro, and the shift keys did not work on his machine either. Caps Lock does work. I've tried canned air. I don't remember spilling anything on it.
Any idea about what I can try to get it working, or is it broken? Thanks,

Dock dissapear, Exposse, Spaces not work

Dock is dissapear, Exposse and Spaces not work, i had repaired permissions from disk utillity but all is de the same, restart and all is not working, command + tab either work, and if a try to minimizar a window nothings happend

I am experiencing this same problem. I have been fine for a few weeks after my Leopard update, but then all of a sudden today I could not find my dock. I wasn't able to get it back at all, so I tried to shut down. It would not shut down so I had to do a hard shut down by holding in the power button. When it rebooted, the dock was still non-existent. I did some googling and learned it might be a corrupt preference. I then deleted the preferences, and immediately a dock (the original default installed) came up. It seemed ok for about 30 seconds, then it quit, and keeps flashing, reappearing, poking out. I deleted the preferences again, same result.
I ran disk utility. It found some permissions problems and "repaired" them. Now the activity monitor shows that my dock is starting and quitting, as stated above, and I can't see it at all. It's gone.
I am pretty upset about this, I rely on the dock heavily for my drag and drop applications in CS3.
Any solutions to this yet?

Flexible Space not working

Flexible Space not working, with firefox v1.5 pictured here..

You see i have a big space FF icons and google search, by adding one flexible space. I cannot seem to get this to do the same with firefox v3. Will have to add x10's or more of flexible spaces to be the same. Have tried to resize the flexible space with v3 noting to grab to resize.
Anyone know of a sollution how to do this, to be like that in the picture (url link above) ?

ps: this problem was ever solved here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=837637). However, it happens again now and the previous solution doesnt cut it anymore as the preference file (that I must delete) is no longer there.

Shortcuts for taking pictures of the screen
Use these shortcuts to take pictures of the screen in Mac OS X.
Action Shortcut
Take a picture of the whole screen
⌘-Shift-3
Take a picture of part of the screen
⌘-Shift-4, then drag to select the area you want in the picture.
To cancel, press Escape.
Take a picture of a window, a menu, the menu bar, or the Dock.
Press ⌘-Shift-4, then press the Space bar. Move the pointer over the area you want so that it's highlighted, then click.
To drag to select the area instead, press the Space bar again. To cancel, press Escape.
Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, rather than create a file, hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.
You can also take pictures of the screen using the Grab application (in the Utilities folder).
Some applications, such as DVD Player, may not let you take pictures of the screen.

'SHIFT variable RIGHT deleting trailing space' not working

I have a character field in a transaction that occasionally gets populated with a value that has a space at the end or at the beginning or both. This is causing the dataload to fail. I added code below to remove these spaces from the end and beginning-
SHIFT <variable> RIGHT deleting TRAILING space.
SHIFT <variable> LEFT deleting LEADING space.
The SHIFT LEFT works perfectly and deletes the space at the begining of the value but SHIFT RIGHT does not delete the space at the end for some reason. I tried defining the variable as a char (16), string but nothing seems to make it work.
Note: I cannot use CONDENSE because the value can have spaces in between that we cannot delete.
Any ideas why shift right wouldn't work?

First of all Shift works only with string datatype. So transfer the contents of that character field into a string datatype and do the shift operation.
Declare a string variable of that type. Data v_str type string.
Pass the contents of the character field into the string.
And do the shift operation on the string and pass the value of the string back to the character field.
Shift v_str by 1 places right.
Please try this.

When cmd+shift+d does not work on a mac, here's what to do.

I have been trying to authorize my new Macbook Pro 2011 for weeks. (I set up and authorized my iPhone with no problem.) Whenever I try to authorize my computer using the Digital Editions instructions given at the bottom of this post, I get the message:
Activation Server error - code E_AUTH_NOT_READY
Digital Editions encounter an error on the activation server.
I've read all the forums and tried everything. To deal with this problem, the answers in the forums say to deauthorize my computer and the reauthorize it but, no matter what I do, I cannot get it to deauthorize. i have tried opening ADE and hitting Command+Shift+D--using command because I have a mac--(tried this in library view and in reader view) but nothing happens. This is different from so many others who have solved this problem using Command+Shift+D. When I hit Command+Shift+D, nothing happens at all. I get no screen so I cannot hit Erase Authorization. I don't know how to get rid of the authorization that must exist somewhere but I don't know where. Only after I get rid of it, will I be able to reautorize my computer so I can read ebooks from the library, etc.
I also tried uninstalling ADE 2.0 and then reinstalling it. I did not get the set-up wizard to help me authorize my computer. So I went to the Help menu and chose "Authorize Computer" and got a window titled "Authorize Your Computer." The eBook Vendor was already shown as Adobe ID. All I had to do was enter my Adobe ID and Password. I did this (which worked successfully on my iPhone) and got the same error screen message noted above:

I returned to the Help menu and chose "Authorize Computer" and got a window titled "Authorize Your Computer." The eBook Vendor was already shown as Adobe ID. All I had to do was enter my Adobe ID and Password. I did this and THIS TIME I WAS SUCCESSFUL. I got the following message screen:

THEN TRY TO AUTHORIZE YOUR COMPUTER AGAIN BY OPENING ADE 2.0, CLICKING ON THE HELP MENU, CHOOSING AUTHORIZE COMPUTER, ENTERING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND PASSWORD, CLICKING ON AUTHORIZE (OR WHATEVER THAT RIGHT BUTTON IS), AND YOU WILL MOST LIKELY GET THE MESSAGE THAT YOUR COMPUTER HAS BEEN AUTHORIZED.

When you activate Adobe Digital Editions 2.0, you receive the error, "E_AUTH_NOT_READY."
Solution
This error occurs when the authorization information is damaged. Follow the below steps to rebuild the Activation file.
Mac OS
1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
2. Press Command+Shift+D to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
3. Select Erase Authorization.
4. Click OK and Quit Adobe Digital Editions.
5. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion.
7. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

I have just encountered the same problem and all the same frustrations as karliekate, except that I haven't got a new eReader. I just use my PC, so I don't know what might have caused this. The Adobe Help (!!) pages say to contact the eBook provide (the library) whose site says contact Adobe, although it should be well known by now that software producers like Adobe, Apple, Microsoft and many others are completely indifferent to their customers' problems.

CMD+ shortcut not working on Czech keyboard

I have this problem. CMD+ and some other shortcuts are not working or are working weird on Czech keyboard. For example it works in Preview (sometimes) but not in Safari.
On Czech keyboard there is + sign on the key with number 1. (normal press = "+" shift and press = "1"). When I activated Keyboard Viewer in could see that when I press CMD the "+" key turns to "1". So then its impossible to press CMD+. The weird thing is that in Preview it sometimes works like CMD+ and sometimes like CMD and 1 (I really don't know why, in both cases i have a pdf file opened).
Then I tried setting CMD and 1 as a shortcut for Zoom In instead of CMD+. Here is another weird thing. When I pressed CMD+ the shortcut was set to CMD+ with no problem, but when I want to use it it always acts as CMD and 1.
Can somebody explain me why this all works weird like that or maybe can somebody look into it and fix it somehow?

This could be lots of things. I'd say it was some type of system corruption.
First, thing is to define a new user & see if the problem exits there.
If not, -- good news -- it is probably some finder preference. You need to delete the finder preferences.
Otherwise, the corruption is somewhere else.

You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
Check the amount of free space on your harddrive. You should have a several gigs free.
You should run disk utility
a) verify the disk
b) update your permissions.
Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine. Hold down the shift key. Poweron. Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive is being checked.

Ctrl and shift alt shortcuts not working in Illustrator CS4

Can´t seem to get these keys to work properly.
For instance while drawing with the rectangle tool then pressing shift to get a square does not give me a square, all I get is a tooltip balloon saying "shift" same goes with ctrl and alt and spacebar. This only happens while using my wacom graphire 3 not with the mouse. Trying to use the up and down arrows to shange the number of points in a star also not working. But if I FIRST click the shift key then start creating a square its working, but not if I first start creating the rectangle. Photoshop cs4 does not give me this problem. Using Vista 32 bit swedish language, latest Wacom driver 5.0.8-6, latest keyboard driver and a swedish microsoft natural pro keyboard, latest logitech mouse driver. Any help is appreciated.

Fonts... there are probably the most guilty of that cases. Ask yourself: when you add (drop, be forced) new fonts in your system, by management spoftware (directly into font folder)? Notice when web browser "ask" you about access to your fonts on your HD in last time (so often last days). When you "dig" somthing in a system, at any way, you disturb his "sacramental peace" (Ohmmmm...) and it flow in other case like sensitive Illustrator or others - I think all other "movements" eg. reinstaling, deleting, etc just "cover" problem by something others (for a short time) or don't resove it at all.
So, first try... rebuild you system maintenace privilages (do this every month or often! Try Atomicbird Macaroni or Titanium Onyx or so, than...
try rebiuld/refresh/clean your font cach ( I use for this, and manage, FontExplorer X Pro) and should be fine.
