Shortcut Created in Finder

Hello. Please excuse my ignorance as I am a new mac user. I recently accidentally dragged and dropped the small blue application folder from the top of the finder window adjacent to the cover flow icon. Suddenly a shortcut to the application folder was created; it is a large application icon. How do I remove this from this area? I have a screen shot but cant seem to upload it on this forum. Any help is appreciated.

  • Keyboard Shortcut to open Finder?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to open Finder? On my old windows machine I could press the windows key and E to open an explorer window and I used that all the time. I would love it if there was something like that for Finder. Sure I could click the icon on my dock, but I like using keyboard shortcuts as I find them faster. I know I can alt-tab, but if I have many things open then that is not fast at all. Please tell me I am not out of luck!

If you like the keyboard you will really like writing a script or using the automator, either of which are extremely easy to learn and use.

  • No Shortcuts created when doing a silent install using VbS

    Hello Everyone !
I have a vb script to do a silent install of BEA Weblogic 8.1SP2. When I push the script and files related to it on a testmachine and execute the script through Zenworks, it installs fine but does not create shortcuts in the Start Menu.
But when I manully run the script on that test machine, it installs fine and creates shortcuts in the Start menu as well. Is there anything from the Zenworks side, that stops the creation of Shortcuts ?
The script is pretty straight forward, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the script. Any suggestion, guys ?
    Thanks

Are the ShortCuts Created in the User's or Machines's StartMenu?
I suspect you are running in the "System Space" and not the user space.
You may want to use the "Distribution" Tab to destribute files and
    shortcuts.

  • Universal keyboard shortcut to launch Finder?

I know that when I have Finder selected I can press Apple key +N to launch a new Finder window, or Apple key +up arrow to lauch the Home folder.
But is there a universal keyboard shortcut to launch any of these when I have another app selected?
For example if I have Safari selected is there a keyboard shortcut to launch Finder instead of clicking on the desktop to deselect Safari/select Finder & then hitting Apple key +up arrow or N?
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3, 2.5 GB RAM, 20 Cinema Display   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    It works, thanks a lot
The keyboard shorctut is a little awkward so I've changed it to Control +A then Return.
    Thanks again.

  • Customizing shortcut created by Export Release Build

    Hi,
I've created an air application that requires a command-line argument - the path to a properties file.  I'd like to set the shortcut created by the Air application installer to point to a default location for this file.  I'm creating the installer by doing Export -> Release Build from the Flex Development Eclipse IDE.  Is there some setting (perhaps in the -app.xml file) that would let me specify a default value?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
that is not customizable in that way. You're using IDE provided UI for ADT that could be also executed via command line and has limited (closed) list of arguments/options:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WS789ea67d3e73a8b22388411123785d839c-8000.html
What about adding that file into application package? If it needs to be passed as path each time application is run you could ship it with application then. Or provide application routine that would compute that path to that file at runtime once application is started.
    thanks,
    regards,

  • How can I restore the "All my files" shortcut in the finder window after deleting it

    Hello all!
How can I restore the "All my files" shortcut in the finder window after deleting it?

    Finder > Preferences > Sidebar
Put a checkmark in the box beside "All My Files".

  • How to change the picture for guest account that was created by "find my mac"? Is it possible to change the photo?

I want to change the picture to my guest account that was created by "find my mac." I tried using the workspace type program but it did not recognize my guest account.  I am not sure what to do and need some help. Thanks!

I don't think there is a straight-forward way to do this. However, if the guest account is bothering you, you can disable it from within the System Preferences.

  • How do I create shortcuts in the finder sidebar for network folders?

I used to be able to cmd-T or drag/drop a network folder to the sidebar in Finder and have a permanent alias/shortcut. After the Lion upgrade I can not figure out how to do that. I was able to drag a shortcut to the desktop but when I clicked on it, I got an error that it was not available when in fact it was still connected.

one of the most convenient things for me as a photoshopper about Snow Leopard was to be able to have sort cuts in the finder side bar under "Places" so i could just drag the image i wanted to open to the left onto the App icon and it would open it from there.  NOW I have drag it to the dock to open or open the

Have you tried dragging the App icon into the sidebar of the finder?

  • C5-00 adding new shortcuts, creating shortcuts to ...

In this phone, when i use "home screen", none of the seçene options permits me to add new shortcut. In Settings - Personalization - Stand by mode - Shorcuts
i can only change the shortcut link. But i can't add more shortcuts (
In my previous Nokia classic phone, when i click left button, "shortcuts" were opening.
I can freely add shortcuts to the features like, calculator, create new message, browser etc
When i try to assign some link to "left button" i can't find something like "shortcuts".
I want to make shortcuts of my favorite applications (create new message, ovi maps, calculator, opera mini, new calendar event) and put them in somewhere, where i can find open them easily.
Is there any way? Without removing the applications where they remain..

well, "search" can make me find the applications, but by typing their names.
But when we use "go to" the places of icons are constant, and i can memorize them and access them more easily.
but it seems like there is no option of  "go to".

  • Removing Shortcut Icons from Finder Window

In the left side of the Finder Window, there are little shortcut icons like "Music" and "Applications" and the like. I dragged a folder into this window for easy access. I no longer have the folder on my Mac, but the shortcut icon is still there.
How do I make it go away? Every time I right- or left-click on it, I simply get a message saying the folder is no longer available.

Select the item and drag it out of the sidebar. It will "poof" away.

  • MacWord BASIC help, please!  Creating folders (finding the "home folder")

I am new to Mac, but not to Word.  Where is the "home folder" and how do I create a folder to hold Word documents I've named and saved?

    Hi there and welcome!
Conceptually the 'Home' folder is where your stuff (music, pictures, movies, documents, preferences, etc) is kept in the computer. Since OS X on the Mac allows multiple user accounts each user has their own 'Home' folder. When reading documentation shorhand for the Home folder may be expressed by the ~ (tilde) symbol.
To get to the Home Folder From the Finder or when saving a file, look the left of the Finder window (or the Save As window) for a picture of a house. This is the home folder. Clicking on it will take you to the home folder.
In the screenshot here my Home folder is named chas (my username on the computer)
Inside the home folder are logical locations for your stuff. You will see Documents, Music, Pictures, Downloads, and Desktop). These are all great places to save your stuff in. I wold recommend saving your Word files into the Documents folder.
You can also create your own folders on the computer. When saving a file you will always see a New Folder button in the lower left hand of the save dialog box:
Clicking this button will allow your to create a new custom folder to help you stay organized.
    Enjoy!

  • 32-bit plugin shortcut created on windows 64 does not work in PS CS6 (32bit)

Here is a really odd one.
I have 32-bit and 64-bit PS installed on Windows 8. If I have a 32-bit plugin in FOLDER32, and I manually create a shortcut in the 32-bit PS Plugins folder that points to FOLDER32, 32-bit PS will not load the plugin in FOLDER32.
If I do the same thing for a 64-bit plugin in 64-bit PS, it works fine.
However, if I create the shortcut to FOLDER32 from a 32-bit program (such as a custom 32-bit installer tool), then 32-bit PS *can* follow the shortcut and does see the plugin in FOLDER32.
    Weird, huh?
Message was edited by: Shmoopie99 (made title more specific)

The WoW64 subsystem redirects shortcuts that point to the 64-bit Program Files to the 32-bit Program Files (x86) causing the plugin to not be found.
The simplest fix would be to copy the 32-bit plugin into the Plug-Ins folder of the 32-bit version of Photoshop.
Unfortunately Wow64DisableWow64FsRedirection does not work for %PROGRAMFILES%, so a 32-bit application would have to attempt to fix the path manually.

  • Trying to create or find a mail script

I find myself often missing important emails. Is there a cript available or can someone show me how to create a script that would open emails when received from particular emails...I am a NOOB when it comes to scripting...
    Thanks a lot!

Mail.app > Mail > Preferences... > Rules > add a rule for relocating or flagging or forwarding or bouncing the Mail.app icon in the Dock or otherwise processing in response to a particular mail message.
Rather than opening the message (as having random stuff popping open windows gets... well... frustrating), I'd probably color the message and/or move it to a specific mailbox and/or play a sound, and might bounce the Mail.app icon in the Dock.  Simple, fast, with no scripting required; it just works...
What's available within the rules by default is flexible, though that can be extended further by invoking a script from a rule, and some folks use this for fairly complex scripts including for processing the message contents.

  • IDisk shortcuts disappear from Finder's Places

I've been having this problem regularly with Snow Leopard. I like to make shortcuts from my iDisk into the Places section of Finder so I can access the folders quickly. Works flawlessly in 10.5. In 10.6 they work but they always start disappearing whenever I shut down or reboot. If I leave the computer running, everything remains as it should. When I reboot or shut down, a few of my links will disappear. I make no changes to the folders and the exact same entries continue to remain in 10.5 but in 10.6 they disappear.
I mentioned this to Apple support once and I was basically accused of imagining the problem or doing something else to cause it but I know the problem is not user error.
Anyone else have anything similar happen? Suggestions?

if the problem is with some preferences in your home directory it will survive a reinstall of SL as the reinstall never touches the home directory.
I don't have mobileme but I don't think it actually syncs your sidebar settings.
but if you want to eliminate that possibility try resetting your mobileme sync data
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
and maybe even resetting the sync folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
of course, you can also try asking in the mobileme forum.

  • AnyConnect installation issues - Network Adapter is not created - cannot find any error?

I am a contractor with a Federal Agency that just swithed to using Cisco AnyConnect for VPN access.  I am about the only person with this installation issue, that I know of.  When installing the AnyConnect client on a Windows 7 machine running a 3.X msi install - the expected Cisco NewWork Adapter is not created in Network connections as I would expect.  I have turned off Firewall services, I've turned off SQL services, Citrix, etc.  But nothing I have tried allows this to install correctly.
When I attempt to use the AnyConnect VPN client and login the the remote service - I receive the
The VPN client driver has encountered an problem. Please restart your computer or device, then try again.
I have attempted the driver database fix suggested online - BUT it didn't correct the problem because I think my problem is in the initial setup, although I cannot find and error in the Windows/inf/setupapi.app.log and setupapi.dev.log that would suggest there is an driver problem.
The DART logs are a bit cryptic, but nothing stands out that would give me any idea as to what might be blocking the creating of the Network adapter the VPN Client would use to connect to the remote network.
Can anyone here point me in the right direction  - I am not receiving help from configuration management - their solution is to format my entire computer and rebuild it which will cost me weeks of time and I have a deadline looming in Feburary.
    Thank you!
