Should I delete folders after upgrading?

I'm new to Mac and I just upgraded to 10.4.3. Do I need to delete any folders or anything to keep it running smooth? Did 10.4.3 simply just replace 10.4.2 ? Or are all the folders copied? I'm showing the same amount of disk space, and I still see the same disks listed under disk utilities. I'd just like a brief sypnosis on what actually happens when one upgrades. Sorry for being so neurotic.

(in addition to Allan's excellent reply)
After using Software Update, the only thing you can do to complete a very cautious, safe Update, is Repair Permissions with Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder).
In any other case, except for Apple software coming from your install DVD or Apple Download site, repairing permissions has no positive nor negative effect, as explained in the linked KB article.

You and me both! I thought my error (Unknown error (-50) popped up when I thought I'd try out MobileMe, (which, as an aside screwed a LOT of things up). Now I have no idea. I started getting duplicate bookmarks in Safari, and email from all over, and then my photos will no longer sync from iPhoto. Could you pleas solve the below issue.
In a file to file scenario, the input file will be picked from a directory location and after processing output file will be placed in the output directory location specified in the receiver communication channel.
In the sender communication channel for the scenario mentioned above, if the processing mode is given as delete, the input file will be delete as soon as the file was successfully read by the adapter, but this will not ensure that the file processing is complete and the output file is being created.
If we have a scenario in such as way that the input file should be deleted from the input folder only if the complete process is successful and the output is generated. how can we achieve this functionality?.
And one more thing if we got the successful output the output file should be placed in one folder. and the if the output file is having errors it should be placed in other folder.

In Receiver communication channel I have used the below command in Run Operating System
.And I have kept the processing mode of sender communication channel as test.
cmd.exe: /C "del /Leela/test.xml"
You are running the comman line program configured in the receiver File Adapter,but in command line you mentioned the Sender File Folder , So i guess it's not getting processed.
Try this:
Try to run the command line in the Sender File Adapter Side
"Place this in " --> Run OS Command After Message Processing.
Hope this would work and get in parrallel with u r requirement.

How to recover missing content of mail folders after upgrade to Maverick?

When I upgraded my Mac computer to Maverick I lost the content of my mail folders. The folders are there but there are no emails filed in them.

Try to re-index:
Repair & Reindex All Messages in Mail app
You may encounter an alert from Mail app telling you that the mailbox must be repaired, but you can also do this manually. This is particularly helpful if the search functions of the Mail app have become unreliable.
Quit out of Mail app and go to the Finder
Hit Command+Shift+G and go to the following path:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Delete every file that begins with “Envelope Index” (optional but recommended: back up these files to the desktop just in case something goes awry)
Close the MailData window, then relaunch Mail app to force reindexing
Like rebuilding the mailbox, the reindexing process can also take a while, depending on how large the mailbox is and how much mail is stored on the computer. Be prepared for a lengthy re-indexation if you have tons (thousands+) of messages in Mail app. When finished, try the search or perform the task that you had issues with before and things should be working as usual again.-These two solutions will fix most common mailbox related issues encountered in OS X Mail, so try them out the next time Mail app is performing strangely. On the mobile side of things, iOS does not have similar forced rebuilding and reindexing options, and thus to resolve similar issues you often have to remove the account from iOS Mail settings and then re-add it to resolve like problems, but that’s a topic for another article.

I am currently running my iphone 5S (locked) on ios7. I recently deleted some pictures and videos by mistake and want to recover them. I did not backup my iphone on itunes or icloud. I tried some recovery softwares but they all seem to be useless. They only show me my photo album - what a bummer....
I understand deleted videos & photos show up in a separate folder for 30 days in ios8. If I upgrade from ios7 now, will I see recently deleted photos/vidoes ? Or will this feature only apply to pics deleted after installation of ios8 ? Can someone please advise ? I dont want to risk updating and have new ios8 version overwrite on deleted data and I completely lose any hope of recovering it.
Apple experts please advise ?

Not if you didn't backup your personal data in the Firefox program folder or were using Firefox Sync.
You should always backup your personal data before reformatting the computer.

How do you delete emails , there is no longer a trash bin you push after updating OS 4.3

Is it a Gmail account ? If it is then if you currently see an archive, instead of delete, button, then you should be able to get the delete option by disabling archiving via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Gmail Account > Archive Messages (from http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=86614 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4207)

Missing Mail Folders after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Prior to my upgrade to Mountain Lion (from Snow Leopard I had setup mail folders. After the upgrade they were gone. I cannot see them. I cannot see a way to build a folder now. Can someone assist? Thanks.

"Folders" are now called "Mailboxes". To add a mailbox, select Mailbox --> New Mailbox. You will be prompted to enter a location and a name. Then you will see your mailbox appear in the sidebar and you can drag messages to it. You can also make smart mailboxes that automatically add messages to themselves according to a set of predefined rules. Select Mailbox --> New Smart Mailbox and enter a name and a set of rules.

Cannot delete tracks after upgrading to iTunes 9

I upgraded to iTunes 9 today. Added a 14 tracks from a new album. Then when I went in to the tag details to bulk edit the album name, it only edited 13 of 14 tracks. I selected only the last track to try and edit it singularly, but the tag info has been grayed out and I cannot touch it. I cannot delete this track, I cannot edit it, and if I delete the whole album, just this track stays.
I checked permissions and I have the rights to read write this track. The permissions for this one track are no different from any other. Help!

I've encountered problems similar to this. Here's how I've dealt with it.
First, carefully examine permissions issues and refresh the iTunes library info if necessary. If you don't have write permissions for the folder containing the files or for the files themselves, iTunes will refuse to rewrite the tags even though it appears to take. You can set this by going to the Finder and using Get Info. If you've already added the files to your iTunes library while they were write locked for you, you will need to clear them from your iTunes library. For this, I typically copy the source audio to another location, delete the original location, remove dead tracks from iTunes (using Doug's Super Remove Dead Tracks ( http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=removedeadsuper )), then copy the files back to their original location (with all permissions issues solved) and trying adding to iTunes again.
Even trying this, I've found some strangely coded mp3 audio tracks that don't allow you to alter tags in iTunes. I've gotten around this by importing each mp3 track into Fission (third party app) and saving back out as a new file. Fission doesn't reencode the audio, so you don't get additional lossy degradation. Doing this will clear up the quirky file headers/wrapper/metadata to make it iTunes tag friendly. While this last solution is tedious, it does fix finicky files.

Open your Music folder and look for iTunes>iTunes Music>Music. That folder should contain all music in iTunes. If it is there, then you may delete what is on the desktop.

I just transfered files from the hard drive to a shared folder so that both users on the computer could have access to the files. I was wondering if I should delete them from the hard drive and leave them only in the shared folder since it is about 100GB of stuff?

if you just dragged & dropped them in the finder, the files will have been moved, not copied, to the shared folder. there shouldn't be any originals in the original location.

Can I delete LR2 after upgrading to LR4?

I just upgraded from LR2.7 to LR4.2. LR2.7 is still on my computer.... The upgrade transferred my old presets OK. So, can I delete LR2.7 without any problems?

Yes, you can uninstall older versions of LR. The LR upgrades (and updates) are complete programs - they don't need the older versions to run.
P.S. Even if you want to fall back to the old process version of LR 2.x, LR 4.x still does support them (menu settings -> process ->... or at "camera calibration" pane).
